Back in the early '80's when I worked at a Honda dealership, the Goldwings were the easist bikes to toss up on the center stand. Why all bikes can't be that easy is beyond me.

Open the vent on top of the dash and it will stop the suction effect. Don't fold the right hand mirror in because it will contact the brake leaver on a turn.

    • @mnewstadt1
      @mnewstadt1 4 роки тому +3

Confirming the right hand mirror... was moving the bike about folded the mirror to squeeze between a post and a vehicle... then went 50 feet or so and turned left.... thud... “how the hell did I get on the ground?” Look at folded mirror with brake lever stuck against it... “well, that would do it”

To your point 8, what I do with my GW is I use a spare Sena SMH10 that I paired to my bike. I throw it in the middle compartment along with my phone so even if you dont have a helmet on or dont want to install to your helmet, Carplay and Android Auto will work. GW only needs to see that a comm device is connected and then it will work everytime. The audio will come out of the speakers then as well.

That rear disc is called a “vented” disc and although it’s pretty much standard fitment on front of cars now I have never seen one on a bike before!! They displace heat better than a solid disc reducing the chances of brake fade.
    Basically it’s quality!!

    • @Nothing-yi6vw

@@And_rew92 most cars use aerodynamics to ensure good clean airflow to the brakes in some cases this can be seen in the form of vents or guides. This makes for a more constant temperature that the brakes are designed to work within. If you look at a formula One cars you can see the brake disc is in fact housed in a chamber to keep it out of passing air!

You are right about the passenger grab rails. I have a 2018 model year (in black rather than your blue) and have already fitted the later rails. I am even smaller than you and they do make it even easier to put it up on the stand but I find the biggest benefit comes when rolling it off the stand which takes quite a shove. The helmet holder is unlocked using the lever in the left pannier and then you slide the hanger part in to the gap over the top of the grab rail and lock it again. It works the same way on the later grab rails but IMO is a bit of a pain to use. As you say the brakes on the bike are absolutely superb. I think there were a few bikes with vented discs back in the eigthies. One that springs to mind is the FJ1100 Yamaha. By the time I bought my FJ1200 they had ditched the vented discs on the front in favour of the FZR1000 brake but retained it on the back. I think these days they don't want the unsprung weight penalty on most bikes but on a Goldwing that isn't really an issue. I have a tracker fitted too, probably the same as yours as it was fitted for free by Honda. I also find that you have to keep an eye on the battery if parked up for a long time and charge it periodically.

I have a GW DCT tour too. Regarding Apple CarPlay check the software version on your bike. You probably don’t have the July 2020 update. You can download and install it yourself it’s very easy. It will solve the connection problems, improve the sound output on the speakers and stop the annoying always enable message etc. Then you want to turn off the Bluetooth on your phone. You do not need Bluetooth as all the phone calls, music etc are played through CarPlay to your headset. The phone doesn’t have to be paired with the bike when using apple CarPlay. After the software update and Bluetooth off it will work flawlessly but always use an original Apple USB cable. BTW I’ve just got the new handrails 2020, must have upgrade IMO.

Hi Andy, Have commented now on a few of your Goldwing vlogs. Yes I agree about the Apple car play. It sorts of connects when it wants to so I’ve put a phone Mount on the left hand bar now ( there’s a piece you remove to put a mount on next to the switch gear ). This means now I connect my phone now and go off my google maps on there instead plus my phone/ headset works better. It’s great having all this gadgetry on a bike but find it a little distracting to be honest.
The helmet lock lever is on the inside of the left hand pannier at the top ( chrome lever). Pull this and a portion of the grab handle some s out and insert the holding bracket from the top down in the slot provided. I ended up drilling out a bigger hole in it so I could get a substantial strap through it. I’ve had mine new since April 20 and only done 1400 , miles thus far so still learning about things lol.
Sure as time goes on other things will come to you. Also about the “ secret key” slot in case you lose your key and you want to start the bike!! Well worth a look on you tube about it

Something I found recently when I took the seat of my Bagger version to fit battery tender terminals, is that it looks like the seat unit is fitted with seat-heating wiring, even though the UK Bagger version doesn't come with a heated seat from the factory (why not??). I must find out if its possible to retrofit the seat heating switches to the instrument panel and therefore gain a heated seat.

Love the nerdy stuff. I’ve owned a Kawasaki ZX7R for many many years and only just found out that if it is in gear, ignition on, that you can press the starter which will step the fuel pump but not turn the engine over - it fills the carb float chamber - which is really useful if bike hasn’t been ridden for ages / you’ve run the tank empty and have just refilled. Also, did you know that the Zx7r (and other Kawasakis) has a clever gearbox - it has a ‘positive neutral finder’, which means when stationary, the bike can only move into neutral from 1st gear. I love finding out these little details 🤓

There is a little toggle like switch on the upper area inside the left hand compartment. Push it forward and a little square on the side of the left handle pops out and releases the pin that holds the hanger on. It's just a limited pin and not meant for heavy loads and could damage it so that it doesn't work. Also I bought the side brackets that go inside the hand rails in back and provides two hooking holes and each side.

Secret #9 wishing your bought a 1250GS(A) after owning a gold wing for awhile. 😁
Seriously though. The center stand thing can be a pain. Not sure if you’re model has the option, but if you can put the suspension in “loaded” or “max” mode, it’ll give the bike a bit of a lift and be all that much easier to put on the center stand. I use the same trick on my GSA when she’s loaded down with gear. My older Wings, would allow me to use the reverse “gear” to help a bit also.

I just wrap the rope around the back seat handles, tie a granny knot, then wrap the item passing the thin rope around it several times from one side to the other until it runs out. Simple and effective.

I have installed latest software and it’s much better with sat nav POI as well as adding Android Auto to it. Agree with you on setting up all bits to working properly but once you done it is working great and next time is much easier to do it. I have add a few bits to which in my opinion those are essentials: rider lumbar support, trunk light. Other bits are really up to you but foot shifter gives a lot of fun on twists 😎. Trunk top rack with additional stop lights giving extra bag space for longer trips and extra safety to announce you’re breaking. #2 the bagger model doesn't have a trunk for your helmet so it has the locking device for your helmet. honda could have made something better. #3 the suction effect is eliminated by popping up the vent at the top of the instrument cluster thats what its for. #6 technique is everything getting it on the center stand... try your stance next to the bike but use your right foot instead of crossing over with your left and lifting with the passenger grab rail. #8 i have the 2019 and my bike has a USB connection in the glove box where your bike appears to have the airbag. i have my bike and cell phone programmed to auto linkup via bluetooth when i turn on the ignition.

Good observations! CarPlay will always need phone connectivity: hardwire or bluetooth (select 'once' btw). But the Cardo shouldn't be needed at all, unless you also need directional voice prompts. With many bikes (BMW Connectivity for instance), Siri won't work unless you let the phone connect to the bike first before turning the Cardo on. That's a pain, because with bluetooth connectivity you then have to turn the Cardo off whenever you stop and back on again (after phone reconnection) before you depart again. Run the Wayz app (owned by Google) rather than Google Maps, to see where the police are stopped and to get through traffic jams quicker via real-time community feedback.
