    I like how they marry together the retro elephant-like wrinkly skin & the updated scaly skin, accurate or not it's quite impressive.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому +1

      That is definitely the most unusual aspect of the skin integument for me in this Rebor! When I first saw images online I was disappointed that it looked like just plenty of wrinkles, but it was only in hand that I realised all the detail in the original schematic actualized. Truly a triumph of sculpting for Rebor here. They keep delivering better and better models and seen to be leaving its early less accurate roots behind.

    What do think?
    It’s about time!
    A legit sized sauropod that doesn’t clean out the money jar.
    I preordered the female from BBTS so, just waiting on them to receive their shipment.
    This was the intent behind commentary I made, soooo long ago, about the idea of reducing costs on sauropod figures by simply manufacturing them as ‘some assembly required’ offerings.
    Ta-Da!
    Also looking forward to the Haolonggood Apatosaurus that looks to be in 1/35 scale. The images I’ve seen are looking good.
    Thanks for taking the time to throw up a video.
    Safe travels.

      Haha well it seems like we're getting spoilt FINALLY! First two Rebor Diplos and then a HLG Apato in 1:35! And "legit-sized" is right! We have been getting such miserably sized sauropods that I had despaired of never getting something respectable for the ol' 1:35 collection.
      I think you'll be delighted by the HLG Apatosaurus! 😁

    I actually was not aware Rebor came out with two Diplodocus figured until a few mins ago so I’m very intrigued 🙌 Diplodocus actually has a big spot in my heart, mainly because last summer in 2022 I took part as a student volunteer for a dinosaur excavation that took place in a Morrison Formation dig site and I actually had found a femur of a juvenile Diplodocus Carnegii, and that was my first ever big dinosaur discovery of many so this very early Sauropod has the biggest spot in my heart 🙏💕🦕💕 thanks for the review of this figure! I’m gonna get one now haha you’ve convinced me for sure 🙌

      Thanks mate! The skin detail on this is one of its most attractive points, and of course that bendy neck gives you so many more poses it's like having a few different models! I never would have expected a decent sized sauropod in modern times! 😁

    Thanks for taking the time to review this highly anticipated figure so early!
    Amazing model by REBOR with and affordable price for such a huge and bendable model.
    My only gripe is that the colors came out a bit of bland compared to the promotion images, and the only visual difference i could spot between the two version were the mouths, so I'm a bit dissapointed that Rebor didn't used the opportunity to offer more diverse looking versions.
    Now I'm looking forward for the catch the rainbow review for me to finally decide.
    For you next review I would like to request a size comparison of the diplodocus with w-dragon's Giraffatitan and Papo's young Apatosaurus if you own it.
    Thanks in advance!
    Safe travelling!

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому

      You're most welcome, I hope that it helps you decide.
      In fairness, I use very bright lights in order to show you more detail, so you might lose some of the subtlety in the actual colours. In hand, models often look better than in pictures or videos, and the most important is to view it in _your_ lighting situation, not what some reviewer or promo studio uses 😊
      Indeed, they could have differentiated them more, but it was to save cost on production as well as to the consumer. I think it was quite a good balance, because with the bendable neck and tail you really do feel like you have two different dinosaurs!
      I did compare to the W-Dragon Giraffatitan, but I don't have Papo's model. Also for future requests, it's best you email me, as I sometimes take a while to get through the comments, and when I'm travelling as I was, it might not get read till after I do a review 🙂

      You're most welcome! It was absolutely delightful to see a Diplodocus in a decent size again. 1:35 is a dream now for sauropods, and few companies will take that risk when everyone else is going smaller. But as you can see, it's only at larger sizes that a sauropod model is at its most awesome! 😁

    Thank you for another video, and taking the time even though you're travelling!
    This guy looks great, the sheer size of it is really as you said, majestic. One thing that has prevented me from getting a Rebor model though is that skin texture, consistent throughout its models... the round, bumpy scalation that makes it seem more artificial than it needs to be (compared to PNSO or more recently, Haolonggood...).
    I can't wait for your review on the Haolonggood Apatosaurus. I'm not a big fan of sauropods but after seeing Stargazer/Catch the Rainbow and the Apatosaurus, my heart is being drawn more towards them heh - especially the gray Apatosaurus!

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому

      I am glad to know that you might become fonder of sauropods with these offerings 😁 The Rebor and HLG coming out one after another, and with traditional sauropods to boot, is like an infusion of life into the dinosaur collecting world, which has been given only miserably sized sauropods in recent years.
      The skin texture of the Rebor is actually one of the most interseting aspects of this model for me. A cursory glance shows you plenty of wrinkles, but it's only up close that you see all those separate scales. I feel they are very well-done, but of course, aesthetics matter, and different people have different tastes 🙂.

    Yet another amazing review! I ordered Stargazer a week ago and cant wait to have in hand. Though , that metal sticking out of the neck area has me concerned.... Is it noticeable from a normal viewing range ? Or more only noticeable from up close?

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому +1

      That's a good question. In my case, from about 40cm (15in) it gets noticeable especially if the light hits it just right. I have to say though, that I hope it's just mine, because the metal is actually very very superficial, while in the female there seems to be more material around it. I believe the problem may have come during the centering process, so much less material enveloped that part of the armature than should have been the case.

  • @williamneill5441
    @williamneill5441 Рік тому +1

    Wow! Great review of a great model. I prefer the female version simply due to one less seam. Paint and detail are superb. Currently the sauropod to beat among dinosaur figures. Safe travels!

      @DinosDragons  Рік тому

      Thank you, I just got back and might share some parts of my trip in future. In truth, at normal viewing distances you are not likely to see that seam, but close up I have to say honestly it is quite obvious. If it were not for the lack of that red spash, I am gravitating towards the female if I had to display just one!

    Rewatched the vid and I think that when I placed my order with BBTS, I initially ordered one of each but something about both of them was a little off, primarily with the male figure so, I canceled my order for the male diplodocus.
    Now I understand why.
    The “weak chin” appearance.
    The male mouth is the only serious flaw, besides the overall misshaped mouth and lower mandible.
    Perhaps it’s how it had to be given that area was cast using a softer malleable material.
    A little disappointing but it’s still a figure whose arrival I’m looking forward to.
    Rebor and Haolonggood have stepped up to the sauropod plate with sizable, AFFORDABLE offerings.
    PNSO?
    Let’s hope they enter the arena.
    There prices have climbed a bit but they usually deliver quality items.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому

      Indeed, it just kinda jumped out and even if you're not familiar, you know instinctually something isn't quite right. I think the female because of the closed mouth, doesn't show the shallow upper jaw so clearly, though the chin is a different story.
      Overall though I think you will be very pleased, if you focus on the fact that this is an updated sculpt, and of course it is in glorious _1:35_ scale, something I never thought I'd ever see again. In fact PNSO went the 1:45 route for the Mamenchisaurus and its larger sea animals, so I wonder if they would spoil the scale of that larger size by going back to 1:35. The price would probably be prohibitive to most people.

    The titanoboa was made of straight rubber so naturally it cracked. This appears to be made of the soft PVC that Rebor’s therapod tails are made of so as long as you don’t abuse it it will last

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому +1

      Haha that's a hard question! My favourite _group_ is the sauropods, but my favourite _dinosaur_ is Carnotaurus. I never thought about which sauropod per se is my favourite. The choice is hard the more I learn about these animals. It used to be easier as a kid when there was so much fewer. Then it used to be Brachiosaurus.
      Now it's hard to choose. Most awesome would be the titanosaurs. Unfortunately they are on the whole a very fragmentary group. Still within this, it used to be Argentinosaurus, but for something more complete, Patagotitan. Both are generally reconstructed in the macronarian bauplan which is a nice echo to my original favourite, the Brachiosaurus.
      Then you have the very unusual dicraeosaurs, with unusual features like Amargasaurus and Bajadasaurus. Here too, the contrary nature of 'small' size' is an attraction.
      If you forced me to it now, it would be Amargasaurus and Patagotitan tied. Ask me next week, and I will probably tell you something different! 🤣
