  • All right, time to finish off my Rebor Diplodocus review with the female, Catch the Rainbow. Again you can see how well Rebor has done to not just give us a more updated sculpt of wonderful detail and subtle paint application. More than that, when we get to the comparisons, you will see how Reobr has made sauropods great again.
    Here’s hoping for more sauropods of respectable size!

    Rebor does it yet again. So glad when Sauropods get some love from these companies. Everyone loves Sauropods, especially the classics like Brontosaurus, Brachiosaurus, & Diplodocus.

      It really is a happy day for sauropod lovers indeed, who have given up hope of ever seeing a decently sized 1:35 sauropod. And Rebor has done it. I'm really happy and it's defnitely a must have. I believe you will be very happy with them, especially if you experiment with the neck poseability more than I did here. In retrospect I was too conservative.

    Amazing review as always! My diplo just arrived today and I am blown away by the sheer scale and majesty of it! I'm considering getting some of pnso's other morrison species for display with it, so I was wondering both which ones you'd recommend the most, and if you've considered doing a size comparison with pnso's contemporary species? Currently the torvo is my main pick, as it is one of my favorite species, and also, to be entirely honest, something about pnso's allo looks off with the mouth closed.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому

      Wow I haven't thought of that. Usually I'm so busy that when I review a model, I just do comparisons with similar animals except for special cases that just beg to have a popular antagonist, e.g. Triceratops vs T Rex. Also my collection has grown so big that I have to rotate them, so not everything is within easy reach.

    Great review and background information, thanks a lot! If I could have wished for a minor addition, it'd have been some scientific background on the spikes along Diplodocus' spine. I do somewhat remember having read sources regarding this detail, would be great to learn about the actual reasoning behind it.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому +1

      Yikes! I should have talked about that! 😫 In fact this is something I was very interested in a few years ago when I came back after a long break from dinosaurs and saw this new idea.
      Briefly, the main evidence comes from the Czerkas 1992 paper, where evidence of dermal spines were found in the Howe Quarry. Some were isolated, some loosely associated with semi-articulated tail vertebrae, but there were also skin impressions around the distal, whiplash part of the tail suggesting the spines were located on the mideline. It's important to note they don't know how far up it went, but it's reasonable to suggest that they continued up the proximal tail. They then suggest it could even go further along the body and neck, just like in hadrosaurs, but that's all speculation really. Since then this has been a common trope and when WWD ran with the idea, I suppose that's how it became the norm.

    I had been on the fence about the Eofauna diplodocus. The legs were too spindly and the head was definitely wrong. Rebor’s has its own issues but it’s still the better realized representation. So, I passed on the Eofauna.
    Still waiting on BBTS to deliver the Rebor female.
    If the material used to produce it were different, I’d try to resculpt the head elements but, I think I’d ruin it.
    Thanks for another great deep dive review. Always the best.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому

      Thank you mate! It's a little easier because of course sauropods are my favourite group 😁
      The EoFauna does have its merits. It does have very spindly proportions and even the contour of it looks odd compared to other reconstructions I've seen. It's a favourite of many collectors and many viewers have shared they prefer it still to the Rebor.
      That said, I think you will be very happy with yours when you have it in hand. Just the poseability of it is enough to keep you amused to come up with the best poses. Truly a magnificent offering from Rebor! 👍👍

      EoFauna is well-known for its rigorous adherence to the science. Unfortunately on a personal aesthetic level I just didn't like the form of their diplodocus. However if you want scientific accuracy, it's always safe to go with EoFauna. But if you want also the size for a 1:35, this one I believe is closer.

    Very good review ,but I prefer the Eofauna´s,... and I don't think it has strange proportions. I like the fact that the figure is entirely made based on Asier Larramendi's study:

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Рік тому +1

      Larramendi's paper calculates volume, estimating pneumaticity, and so on. It is a rigorous process for estimating the density of the dinosaur to a degree I have not seen before. However it does not detail how this morphology was arrived at, nor was it intended to represent any final appearance. Still, the important thing is that _you_ like it. Don't let anyone else tell you different. 😊

      The EoFauna is indeed still very popular, but it does have some rather odd proportions compared to how people envision it, and of course there is that small size. Is Rebor a lot more expensive in Italy? I would have imagined Europeans would get a better price than elsewhere. The shipping from EverythingDinosaur shouldn't cost as much as to the US or Asia.
