    A pitch -perfect micro essay, it's always a treat to hear about how this title screen hits differently for people. For me, as soon as I hear the sound of Epona's hooves I'm instantly taken back in time as all the memories of the game and my childhood come flooding back.
    I also never clocked song uses the same melody from the original Zelda until now - thanks for shedding some light on this!

    This is one of those games I wish I was old enough to have experienced it for the first time when it came out. A large reason for that is the idea of slotting in the cartridge for the first time and being blessed with this title screen. It feels nostalgic even though I didn't play it until the last couple years.

      I didn't play it at launch, but my introduction to video games was when my uncle gave me his N64 in 08.

      @keviaaar 22 дні тому

      I was born in '95 so I didn't play it at launch of course, but my first Zelda was ALTTP because the SNES was all we had. So imagine my shock when I discovered there was a sequel in 3D... my mind was blown. There's truly nothing like this game. Some gamers, especially younger ones or the PC master race type of guys try to downplay how important this game was. But it's truly a once in a lifetime thing.

      I was born in 84 so I was a teenager when it came out and it absolutely was a spectacle to behold at the time. But to be honest, I think walking out on the Great Plateau for the first time in Breath of the wild came pretty close to the same feeling. Not exactly the same but similar, the BoTW scene was more on the inspirational and hype side , while OoT was more somber in tone. That's probably what comes the closest in modern games.

    • @pyax7038
      @pyax7038 22 дні тому +2

      @@PauLtus_B It's for sure more dramatic, specially because of the last bit where the wolf howls at Hyrule lost to the Twilight Realm. But that's precisely why I think it sends the message, TP is an epic adventure about recovering what was lost. The situation in the beginning of the game is very dramatic, Hyrule is invaded entirely and Link loses his human body and his friends.

    • @PauLtus_B
      @PauLtus_B 21 день тому +2

      @@pyax7038 Totally, but that's also why I think the vibe is very different from OoT's opening.

    It's an insanely good title screen and menu theme. Weirdly enough, out of all of the things that OoT has that have stood the test of time, this is the one I just can't forget. It just feels so intimate. Aside from the quality of the graphics, I wouldn't change a thing in it today, not even the music.

    Ocarina's title song is one of the most nostalgic things ever. even back when i played it regularly, i was always loathe to skip it and press start as instructed until it had faded away into that first little cutscene. just so damn good.

  • @Seth_M-T
    @Seth_M-T 22 дні тому +10

    The bit where all you hear are Epona's hooves before the music starts is so important for setting the mood. I hate how they changed this in the title screen for the 3DS remake. In fact there are a lot of things that the remake butchered with that opening shot: the colours are too strong, the moon is too far to the side, the camera is too close to Link, and the mountains in the background make it harder to see him. The vibe just isn't the same. I also don't like how the logo awkwardly fades in before the flames appear behind it.
    The original title screen will live in my heart forever.

  • @LittleBeanGreen
    @LittleBeanGreen 22 дні тому +2

    The great thing about this title screen and other Zelda title screens that came after is that they also allow you a glimpse into the story that you can watch or skip if you want to - it's not a long cutscene you have to get stuck in when you're itching to play the game. In that sense, it allows you to get into the meat of the game faster as well.

    Honestly I don’t think that the magic of oot really could have been encapsulated in a title screen any better. It has the allure of a nostalgic adventure that will never truly be forgotten. Its ost envelopes you in a sense of melancholy emotion that is truly unmatched. The only other time that I felt a similar sensation was when I first entered the City of Tears in Hollow knight. I know that saying that oot is the best Zelda game is as basic as it get, but to me it always will be. It also set the guidelines (mechanically) of what an action adventure game should be…

    while I think that the oot title screen is beyond exceptional, my personal favourite is hl2's. There is probably bias due to having played hl2 before oot but the live screenshots of in-game locations that update depending on your progress through the game, and the accompanying ambience captures perfectly, much like oot, the tone of the game. The choice to have omitted music to focus on just the location is something I appreciate on not just the title screen of the game but also throughout the game (as for a couple exceptions the game is largely devoid of music), it really seems to amplify the eeriness of the in-game world.

    OoT was a masterpiece for it's time. Now while the Wind Waker is truely a really good game, it can't compete with the atmosphere of this. Now imagine this exact atmosphere in a GameCube Zelda - like they teased us with as a tech demo long before release.
    BotW and TotK have so much more to offer, but I would stick to the same argument, that they can't compete with this atmosphere.

I love Zelda games, but I had a miserable time playong OoT. To me, the calm, relaxing, thoughtful title screen feels that way DESPITE the fact that it precedes a game where I felt none of those emotions at all.
