Wow! I appreciate the shoutout, Steve! I'm really glad the lure is working for you. Catching a fish on a home made lure is fun. Watching a buddy catch on a lure you made is EVEN BETTER. Here's hoping the video shows folks that they, too, can experience this unique joy.

For the record, I believe the ones I made for Steve had a #6 Colorado blade (silver) and a 3/16 oz Z-Man Redfish jig head. Great combo! Lots of flash and thump!

I hit the tributaries around the middle of the Choptank, hit it hard Saturday from sunrise to mid day, caught white perch, catfish, zero snakehead, mostly throwing a chatterbait & a real beetlespin which usually works. Fun time trying anyway!
Glad you still got on some fish, but I know what we all want to catch 😜
How was the structure and vegetation?
@@KambotroutFishing muddy banks at low tide, with grass that only is against the water during high tide, lots of minnows everywhere (banded killifish) - downed tree's along the banks looked good, maybe there are snakeheads as I assume they would be there, unless the salinity is too high from no rain- but I have yet to catch my first, which will make it more satisfying when I finally catch my first.

I was wondering if you have developed your own technique for safely unhooking a snapping turtle? If not I have a system (and all my fingers) that serves me well
Thanks Mike! No, I do not have a set system for unhooking snapping turtles. That’s still very much a figure it out as you go operation for me lol

I know space is at a premium and you select your gear as to what works best for you. For unhooking turtles and snakeheads I use the vise grip style plastic lip grippers on the lower jaw. With the other hand a pistol grip style metal fish hook remover does the trick. Hopefully snapping turtle encounters will be a rare event

That is the type I use. In most cases the lure is shredded by their claws.
But it has been a safe hook removal technique for me and the turtle

@KambotroutFishing that's awesome that's where I live. Would love to talk to you about fishing down this way and I have another spot about 30min away that I always see snakehead but they won't bite
Do you recommend extra fast action rods for setting hook on snakehead been missing hooksets way too often
For frog fishing, yes, I use extra fast action exclusively.
That said, there are other considerations we should account for. What types of lures are you using when you’re missing these fish?
@@KambotroutFishing zoom horny toad with heavy duty wide gap hook, it’s like this: I get one finally to bite after a long day… fish has lure, I confirm it, I go for a pretty hard hook set I feel it connect against the fish and boom I just see the toad all mangled and hook doesn’t penetrate, but then I have 0 problem hooking largemouth. I use a medium heavy fast action with the toad and always keep my drag locked.
