I REALLY appreciate the flame polishing on the wheels - in the middle of restoring one of these myself so I’m doing my final bits of research. Found myself wondering, in other videos, why people never use that technique on the wheels. Bravo.
It brings such a huge smile to this 55 year old kid's face seeing the Tonka, & Nylint toys of my childhood come to life again. Thank You, keep up the good work
I'm 20 years old and as a kid my dad had these tonka trucks from his childhood that he gave me to play with and I had this exact loader, I would play with it in the gravel, loading pebbles and stuff and moving it around. The one I had looked almost exactly like this but if I remember right the plastic window was cracked. Great job restoring this one, it's nice to watch the craftsmanship
loved how this turned out and great what you did with the wheels , i never say bad things about these restorations but there is a first time for everything lol ,, i was very surprised you didn't address the cab glass with a sanding and buffing
Yes,really man,if you're going to do a restoration, do it right & you should've either cleaned up the glass or get a new clear one bcause you bought a new exhaust,so you could've spent some more money on a new glass for it
Back in 1973 I had the entire fleet of Tonka Trucks... My uncle worked for a company that sold big trucks and heavy duty commercial equipment. They had lots of toy construction equipment on one wall in the showroom. I always wanted to stop to see my uncle! Ha! Wanted to see if a new Tonka was in! I remember making miles of roads with those trucks. I bet I had every Tonka made at that wonderful time in history! I had tons of fun trying to wear them out! I wonder what they would all be worth today?
My dad had one from like the early 70s and I remember the even I got to play with it in the early 2000s. Sadly it was recently stolen but this things where truly built to last
so cool I had this model as a child along with the dump truck & crane mounted lorry with grab bucket I remember my friend had other tonka monsters many happy memories playing with these proper toys built to last
Stuff like this hurts my heart. It hurts my heart because Tonka toys and sand piles were a huge part of my childhood. I look back on those years (I’m 40 now) and I miss that kid. I wish I could talk to him and tell him that, no matter how poor he was; no matter how much cool stuff the other kids had; those times would come to mean more to him than anything. It’s true. You really can’t go home again.
I actually made a wood buck to vacuum form my own replacement glass for these. I loved the way you refinished the wheels. I didn’t think of doing it that way.
Bravo!!!! Bravo!!!! I think you did a great job. My favorite part was when you took a torch to the wheels to make them brand new. Never new that could work like that.
I used to have this toy along with the dump truck. My mom had saved it to give to my children, but unfortunately, before my son came along, my sister's children had destroyed both. Nice to see one restored.
Now put on eBay and sold to a toy collector for $2,000.00...🤘🏼😉 Killer job bro. You just brought all of us back that grew up with TONKA Trucks, to our childhood days of sandboxes and mud. 🤘🏼❤🚚❤
The manufacturer designed the tires so the lettering would be flat on the widest part of the tire, which made it easy enough to just run the tires under a roller to apply the paint. Since he didn't have that precisely adjusted roller, his paint on cardboard accomplished the same thing. Personally, I was most impressed by his heating the tires to get some of the shine back. That's a trick I'll definitely have to remember.
Dude no! The sandblasting is such a big part of the teardown, not to mention it satisfies the ocd. You shouldn't rush through it, scratch the itch. And thanks for the video, I love watching restoration vids
So very satisfying and enjoyable. Expert video clear and concise, thank you so much for the beautiful repairing of a pleasant boyhood memory. Must get started on mine and my sons he will love them ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I literally just bought one from a neighbor for 10 USD, i actually thought it was from the late 80's, wow i had NO idea it is from 1975. And it is in pretty GREAT SHAPE for its age.
I have this one. Was my favorite along with the scraper . I saved them all these years to restore. They are in a cedar toy box my great grandfather built for my dad in the 40's. I nailed it shut about 40 years ago filled with old trucks and equipment. I should pull them out and start playing with them again.
That rounded 'frame' was used on other Tonkas. Nice job. Super idea of using heat to restore tires. I used clear shoe wax. I was able to find a NOS Dump truck and took it to a Paint Supplier who scanned the underside of the box and mixed the exact colour in a rattle can. Pricey but right.
Sand blasting is so damn satisfying, watching someone else do it gives me the itches, I end up looking for rusty bean tins just so I can fire up the compressor and get my fix😂
Gute Arbeit wie immer. Ich bin aus Mainz, aber jetzt lebe ich in Amerika. Mach die gute Arbeit weiter. Ich hatte ein paar Tonka-Lastwagen als ich klein war.
It looks so perfect after the restoration! Well done! Just so you know - this is NOT a 1975 loader. This is a 1989-1991 model. 1975 models have non-recessed wheel rims, this has recessed ones. Also they have plastic air cleaners and an exposed engine. This has no air cleaners and a hidden engine.
a new window was ordered. unfortunately it didn't arrive in time. I live in Germany. Spare parts for Tonka models are unfortunately only available in America. Shipping to Germany takes several weeks.
I put this story on another restoration, but I thought I would add it here. I still remember my friends dad telling me a story about buying his boys tonka trucks when they were little. They were poor, but he managed to save enough money to get all 4 sons a tonka truck for Christmas. He said he remembers shortly after Christmas sitting in the living room and hearing this banging noise outside. He went to investigate and saw that his boys had tied ropes to their trucks and were taking turns swinging it into a tree. Screaming at them what in the hell are you kids doing! The oldest chimed up and said that the commercials advertised that they are virtually industructable, so they were putting them to the test.
I REALLY appreciate the flame polishing on the wheels - in the middle of restoring one of these myself so I’m doing my final bits of research. Found myself wondering, in other videos, why people never use that technique on the wheels. Bravo.

I grew up with the Loader, the crane, the dump truck and the grader

MAN I REMEMBER THESE TONKA TRUCKS BACK IN THE EARLY 70S GREAT JOB 💯👍THEY DONT MAKE TOY TRUCKS LIKE THIS NO MORE HAND MADE TONKA WAS THE BEST ✌️
I loved my tonka truck and loader when I was a kid in the 80's
I love my Tonka Toys restoration videos, I had these toys as a child.Girl Power!!!
The craftsman dismantles the toy like he's diffusing a bomb. Love it.
After reading the many complimentary comments, this restoration was a winner for certain. I too agree outstanding. Should be on display only.

I was born in the very early 80s but I remember playing with one of these forever. What an awesome toy
My dad had one from like the early 70s and I remember the even I got to play with it in the early 2000s.
Sadly it was recently stolen but this things where truly built to last
Have you heard of the Tonka Ramp Hoist Truck? Its so rare theres only one restoration video of it on youtube! 🛠🛠🛠
one of the biggest betrayals of our childhood is when Tonka started making the toys out of plastic
But now a days things are made to not last.... Sad really
Damn right!
Indeed!!
Why didn't he fix the Tonka window?
well not having to worry about a kids tetnus shot being in date is a fairly good tradeoff imo lol
so cool I had this model as a child along with the dump truck & crane mounted lorry with grab bucket I remember my friend had other tonka monsters many happy memories playing with these proper toys built to last
Super presentation by the wat!
Nice renovation! I ran a rig like that back in 77' and 78'. We moved a lot of sand back in those days...and matchbox cars... and army men...
Stuff like this hurts my heart.

Dude. Right in the feels.
Always wanted one of those and the Crane as a kid!
A beautiful restoration, it's a brilliant piece of work.

You're a mad genius

Absolutely! Tonka toys from the 50s, 60s, and 70s were indeed well made and are still cherished by many collectors today. 🎉
I used to have this toy along with the dump truck. My mom had saved it to give to my children, but unfortunately, before my son came along, my sister's children had destroyed both. Nice to see one restored.
I bet ol billiybob Tonka would be proud to see his ol creations being brought back to life.
I like the White Lettering trick you use!
Oi tudo bem você não você é da onde diga diga diga diga diga diga diga diga diga
Tonka is just next level. Even with the age and how beat up it is the pitting isn’t bad at all
Now put on eBay and sold to a toy collector for $2,000.00...🤘🏼😉
Killer job bro. You just brought all of us back that grew up with TONKA Trucks, to our childhood days of sandboxes and mud. 🤘🏼❤🚚❤
Excelent Job!!! Congrats!!!
Thanks 😊
Omg the most satisfying part was when you dipped the tire letters in the paint. 👏🏼

Yeah! That did it for me too.
Ha ha ha... I thought I was the only kid that thought. "OMG, THAT'S SO FREAKING COOL!!!!"

Simply superb. I’ve never seen that before where you gently heated the ‘tyres’ and they returned to their former black colour. Excellent work.

I remember having that Tonka Loader as a kid.
Very clever, using the silver tape! Congratz!
I literally just bought one from a neighbor for 10 USD, i actually thought it was from the late 80's, wow i had NO idea it is from 1975. And it is in pretty GREAT SHAPE for its age.
Nice job use to love playing with those when I was a kid.😂👍👍✌️
If you take a torch and LIGHTLY heat up the treads, the tires will look brand new
Superb skills again ❤love it

I didn't think it would be possible to get the initial rust eaten vehicle to look like new. Amazing job. Congratulations
