Once you take up carving, you're never going to want to stop.
Today, I'm going to carve a simple project, just for the fun of it.
It's going to be a Birch-themed wooden spoon.
I've heard a lot of people say that they would like to start carving, but just don't think they have the talent for it.
Well, Bob Ross once said, " Talent is a pursued interest; anything you're willing to practice, you can do"
Some of the first things I started carving was wooden spoons, cups and little twig roosters. I had a lot of fun making them and giving them away as gifts.
Pearl wasn't sure what to think of her reflection.
The only way to experience the joy of carving is to get yourself a good set of carving knives and start whittling.
Thanks for watching! I'll see you all on the next one!

My 3 children and I love to lay down and turn on your videos. They're always excited to see Pearl. Even my youngest at 3 years of age can easily see the bond you two have is priceless.
Thank you for sharing your talents with us in such a beautiful way.
My wife is from a small town outside of Lexington, KY - they have to drag me home to FL every year - kicking and screaming.
I'll take a cool mountain stream flowing through an old growth forest over a sweltering crowded beach any day.

Hello sir, my name is Arne, I live in South Africa 🇿🇦 and I love carving. I don’t have access to electric carving tools in my area (I do have a grinder though) and most online stores don’t ship to SA. But I do have a set of carving knifes and I was hoping you could do more ‘carving like a beaver’
    Thanks

A good tip for the novice carver is to choose a simple object and remake numerous times so those mistakes teaches them how to use a Woods Grain/Nature to their advantage instead of fighting it. Indeed many might try to carve a branch with Leaves/Acorns first but most experienced carvers know that complexity and skill grow together not separately. However just a single Acorn carved over and over will show how your skills are progressing as by the time it surprising you that what's sitting in your hands was made by them moving on to add that Chipmunk having one in its paws won't be that far away. Sculptors have often said that their freeing what they see inside a Stone Block more than anything else and Wood Carving is similar as it's the art of removing the material that's revealed when it's finished.

Mike... Thanks again. You have given me so many ideas and inspiration. I feel it has helped me improve my pieces in so many ways.
I quote Bob Ross as well. Anyone can do it. It just takes the willingness to practice.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
