Just replaced my switch, directions and guidance are spot on with the exception of the plug is glued in from the factory, nice even heat from a heat gun will help.
Absolutely the best video I've seen on this repair. Probably one of the best repair/service videos I've seen, period. Clear step by step instructions. Well done.
One thing... You forgot to mention that almost ALL GM TRUCKS (92 to 99) have the connectors silicone glued to the PRNDL switch at the factory. It is nearly impossible to unplug those connectors without breaking the switch. Your truck obviously has had the PRNDL switch replaced previously, because the cable connectors were not glued in place. So the real replacement process needs to tell the end user that they can try to remove the cables, but the switch will break just behind the connector socket on the PRNDL switch.
If u take a heat gun to the plugs it softens the glue and they pull right off then ieven had to heat some up to putt back on before even a good hair dryer will work
This is a good video for a do it yourself er, I have a slippage in my 2003 envoy, and by me watching this video I feel that it will solve my transmission problem.... Thank you....
Man I’m hoping you can help because no one else responded. I have a 97 k2500, the clutch only starts when in a very specific position and also will start in neutral. Starter is fine, ignition cylinder is brand new, distributor is brand new and cap/ root is great. Plugs and wires less that 50,000 miles. Is that a sign of something related to the clutch? Is there some sort of clutch safety switch on a manual transmission? I keep seeing the problem could be a clutch or neutral safety switch but only in automatics.
That part is going to fix my reverse lights to turn on ? Manual transmission gmc sierra 98 The reverse gear doest press the switch light inside the gear box, Brand new switch when I press the switch manually my reverse lights turns on .but doesnt work when is intalled ,Can you help me ? Thanks
I'm replacing my transmission the one on your video is identical to one I took out my problem is with newer transmission my length of transmission shifter is 1 in shorter please help
Hey, would a bad neutral safety switch cause my 1998 K 2500 to go into drive intermittently while the vehicle is in neutral? I noticed when I had the rear end on stands, that if the vehicle is running and in neutral it kept engaging into drive on and off
I just recently replaced the one on my truck (98 gmc1500) but im having troubles with the gauge not lining up n it not going all the way back into park on the switch what do I do
I’m having issues starting my truck. 97 chevy. Everything in the starting system is new. Even the relay & ignition switch. Still nothing when I turn the key. But if I jump the relay it starts right up. Could this be my problem?
ok so ive done the replacement now i have another problem i can shift from park to drive but cannot go from drive back into park unless i do it manually under the truck at the transmission been racking my brain like crazy
I had the same problem and got a new cable and tightened up but it doesn’t go into park I mean it does but it doesn’t read it if that makes sense so Everytime I start it I have to put it in neutral

Honest question, wouldn't it save a step to start the job with the truck already in neutral?
Super easy IF you have your truck IN THE AIR👍
Thanks for the demonstration

If t this switch is not correct will it cause the transmission to not shift gears? Ex. 1st-2nd then not shift into 3rd or 4th
Is this part difficult to change on a fwd vehicle, particularly a '92 Fleetwood?
Will the neural safety switch not letting car start keep transmission from shifting out of n neutral if you jump the starter
That part is going to fix my reverse lights to turn on ?
Manual transmission gmc sierra 98
The reverse gear doest press the switch light inside the gear box,
Brand new switch when I press the switch manually my reverse lights turns on .but doesnt work when is intalled ,Can you help me ? Thanks
Would this cause my 99 Yukon to not rev past 2000rpm ? Starts drives and idles ok just won’t go past 2000rpm when driving any thoughts ??
I'm replacing my transmission the one on your video is identical to one I took out my problem is with newer transmission my length of transmission shifter is 1 in shorter please help
Does this switch also affect the reverse lights?

No. But it's pretty normal for wheels to spin in neutral while free revving simply from the harmonics and friction drag
I just recently replaced the one on my truck (98 gmc1500) but im having troubles with the gauge not lining up n it not going all the way back into park on the switch what do I do
is this the same on a manual transmission?
Thanks help a lot

Does it start in neutral position?

Did you change your transmission/shifting cable if you did then make sure to adjust it mine had the same problem
I had the same problem and got a new cable and tightened up but it doesn’t go into park I mean it does but it doesn’t read it if that makes sense so Everytime I start it I have to put it in neutral
Grate video
About the best video on this very informative thank u
Not like this on the 92-94. Only on 95 up.. on my 93 its on the console under the steering wheel.
What is that cable that attaches to it
What is the wire connect to it? That’s what’s broke and I’m not sure what it’s called
You referring to the Shifting cable?
Verygood
Looks like you wired new plugs on it before you made your video, mines full of sticky shit from factory
