Adventure Paddle & Dive to "Twin Sisters" - Double Lava Tube / Sea Cave System - Kona, Hawaii

A picture-perfect day and flat calm seas left us craving an adventure dive, so we loaded our stand up paddleboards (SUP) with our scuba gear an opted for the 1+ mile paddle along a remote stretch of South Kona to a dive site called Twin Sisters. This dive site features a double (or twin) lava tube system that is side by side. As you approach the main arch, you can either go left or right into 2 separate sea caves. The caves extend pretty far in and the back of each cave there is an air pocket so you can pop up and check out the lava rock formations before turning around. A note of caution, this site can get rough and the surge through the caves can be punishingly strong, if you get to dive this site, only do so with perfect conditions! The site had so much to offer - lots of nudibranchs (including the "Holy Grail" of Hawaiian nudi's the Jolly Green Giant and a "new to me" desirable nudibranch), eels, turtles, schooling fish, lobsters, shrimps, and of course the topography of diving through lava tubes!
