For me, the manta rays were 1B to taking a Jeep to the top of Mauna Kea for sunset and then stargazing. The pictures I have are just insane....

Swimming with the manta rays sounds amazing. I visited the Big Island decades ago and loved it. Thanks for sharing Hawaii with us. Cheers from Canada.

Definitely agree with the night time snorkeling with the manta rays. That was amazing! I’ve only been to that black sand beach twice, but each time had six turtles sunning themselves. January when I was there, I did a hike around south beach, and the southern tip of the island. Agree with the list!

Just got back from the big island last week after a 2 week stay.. we did every one of these things and more (except the whales of course)... I'd say Zipline at Botanical World Adventures is a can't miss. That was my wife's favorite.
Also, this video made me miss hawaii again, thanks for making me cry.

I completely agree with your top four suggestions. My wife and I brought her sister and husband with us to Hawaii in June for their 30th anniversary. We did the top four suggestions based on our past visits, along with many other things, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Mahalo for your continued recommendations for the islands.

I hope the Big Island is making for a good vacation. A ton of good historical parks there too. Have a great trip (if still there).

I’m on Kauai at the moment, flying to big island in a couple of hours (Feb 21, 2024). I am booked for nighttime snorkeling with manta rays romorrow night, and half-day boat trip/snorkeling at Capt Cook (K-bay) the following morning. Can’t wait!!

Why did you have to release this video while I'm in my office working on a Saturday??!! I'd rather be at Volcanoes NP or Kona. I miss the Big Island soooo much.

My can’t miss experience is zip lining over the waterfalls. Also relaxing at the nice resorts on the Kohala Coast.

Waipi’o Valley beach absolute must whenever they fix the road(temporary closed) and Malalawena beach. Also puna trail guaranteed to see turtles, not busy but grail is muddy with roots and lava flow so good water shoe with hard sole is a must or waterproof hiking footwear

It’s the truck ride that is an unforgettable experience! The green sand beach is so unique. Only four green sand beaches in the world.

You guys nailed it as usual. All of this stuff is not only amazing, but it's so amazing that you immediately want to go back and do it all again.
We got a little hampered on our Captain Cook kayak adventure by a very large tour boat taking up a LOT of "real estate" right off the shore while we were there, but the water and animals were still beautiful.
A word of additional advice for anyone planning to visit Volcanoes National Park, especially if you're going to be staying at the lodge or an airbnb in the area: stock up on food and supplies before you leave Hilo. The park itself and the surrounding population are very very sparse, which is overall a good thing! The disadvantage is that you could be SOL if you run out of toilet paper or need bug spray or just want a snack, but the very small stores may not have what you need (they also close early on weekends.) Again: it's great that the region is so quiet and isolated; just don't plan on being able to run out for something and be back in ten minutes.

Thanks for watching and for the tips. We’ve had that happen to us in Volcano with kids. Few places were open for dinner and if they were open, they were full.

Last time we flew from Maui over to the big island we had a helicopter tour planned to see the volcano then land at one of the coffee plantations but unfortunately it got rained out but we did drive to the volcano National park and it was awesome.

Love your tips, you two are the best. I have snorkeled at 6 Hawaiian islands now and I think that 2-Steps is the best I have seen with regard to the number and colors of fish. I didn't love the night manta ray diving. The rays are magnificent but I don't love being herded in tours. However, when I stayed at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel we went out from the shore at night and swam with the manta. That seemed more natural and was a once in a lifetime type of experience. Love and aloha.

New visitors to Hawaii might feel a little underwhelmed, especially the Kona side with the Queen K and nothing but Lava on both sides. But if you get to know the island it's actually the best island of Hawaii in my opinion. Been there several times a hopefully more to follow.

For beer drinkers, Ola Brewing and Big Island Brewhaus are the two best companies in the state in my opinion. Its a must for those who drink a brew or like microbrews. Skip anything Kona related.

@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide the problem tho is that I dont remember anything Maui or the big island...I THINK that Oahu might have been the last island on the trip back in 82 and that's why I remembered it more...but in 15 when I went back to Oahu, I took my friend who had never left the mainland before so obviously Oahu...the "tourist island" was the place to go...but IF we go again, we're going to bring his niece who ALSO has never left the mainland either, so I'm not sure what to do lol
