The Fansty Self video is live! Watch here: ua-cam.com/video/3ADn0UNCcmU/v-deo.html Thanks for the request you guys and the views on this video is getting WILD. I appreciate the love and positivity!!! MY DEFINITION OF MINIMALISM: For my current lifestyle, it’s to only own things I love and need + have everything I own fit in my car (minus my couch and mattress) so I can move easily. FAQ: I buy toliet paper four at a time, the pillows also are for my bed, I love art and tattoos so even if they're not minimal I want a few things I love on display.
here’s what people are misinformed about in these comments: being a minimalist isn’t about having a completely empty home, it’s about only having things that truly add value to your life.
Your interpretation is wrong. Minimalism is about having the bare essentials, the minimum necessary. Like 1 t-shirt, because who needs two t-shirts, just enjoy the one t-shirt until it's dead, then buy a new one. This girl thinking that not buying tons of jewelry makes her a minimalist, which is just bullshit.
Alec Lewis your on the right track! I always thought it was about being simplistic, clean, light & organized. Some people mix it up with going green! Not using plastics etc.. I keep hearing a lot of “hipster” talk when related to this topic. I honestly labeled myself a “minimalist” before I even used the term, if that makes since. I just never wanted to be responsible of a bunch of junk, bulky useless shit & of course being clean & organized.
You should definitely do a video on that. A couple of years ago I bought a nice camera for street photography, but found it wasn't really me. When traveling I would rather meet new people and enjoy the moment, than stress with a camera to capture it.
Janell Kristina Seriously! A few months ago I downsized my closet from a 557 piece wardrobe to 165 and shoes from 58 to 7. Then I watched this video, go back to do a recap on my clothes and realize some of it is still for that fantasy imposter I clearly keep shopping for. Don't get me wrong, fantasy me has great taste, we're just not always the same size...
one thing I started doing to help stop impulse buys: I used to get $13 an hour (I'm only sixteen) so when I'd splurge at the shops and grab all these unnecessary items, i would ask myself "would i really spend (however many hours) out of my day working if it just meant that I'd get to have this" or if i accumulated $40 worth of impulse buys (for only 3 or 4 items) in my cart - I'd ask myself "would I really do a 3 hour shift but not earn money for it, earn these items instead?". I hope i'm making sense bc i'm not the greatest at explaining things but yeah. that's the gist of it
That is a wise way of handling finances that will serve you well as you get older. If you view your purchases that way, as if you’re working and putting in time for those specific items, it will help you make smart decisions and only bring things home that you’re genuinely happy to have.
sally simonds I used to think I am a minimalist until I saw this video then I realised how much clutter I still have...maybe it's because I share a room with a hoarder
As far as purchases I live by this. I won't buy a new pair of shoes if I don't need them. I won't buy any clothes unless I love them. But it doesn't have to satisfy need, use and love. Like I of course have to use it, but I can love it and not need it and will still buy it. I'm bot minimalist I just think a lot more people should spend in this way or at least similar. Especially when she said about wanting a casual jacket or specific items. Recently I realised I don't have enough pairs of jeans to satisfy a weeks worth of clean wear so I invested in a new pair and since it's getting cold I wanted a new sweater. These are things I put in a mental list and only picked up when I found items I loved.
True! Also don't go "window shopping" unless you plan to buy something. I try to buy a couple of pants in neutral colors, a black and a tan blazer, 1 leather purse and about 2 pairs of neutral pumps and one pair of white sneskers. As a professional these pieces will go along way. I want to be less of a consumer and more of a giver.
I love the fact that your still buy art and things to kind of decorate your apartment a little bit - Hate the stereotypes that all minimalists have empty apartments.
Why is NO ONE talking about how beautiful she is like wow. Some of these replies are a mess, theres nothing wrong with appreciating someones beauty which by the look of these replies is subjective.
@Godel Escher Bach Nope short hair was made for this woman. I get the preference thing but it doesnt take away that shes gorgeous, short hair or not her face is beautiful.
UA-cam people ... this young woman is just basically sensible & chooses to spend her money on the things she finds important to her ... why do people have to judge so harshly? Young lady, you make good sense & the few things you do own are lovely ... don’t let the UA-cam downers get you down, you be you ... best wishes ... p.s. I like your taste in the things that are visible in this video 😉🌸
I think most Americans try and justify their spending and some of their purchases, myself included. it is so easy to tell myself, yeah, I can use another pair of pants, another shirt that is on sale, a new make-up that sounds great, but in reality do I really need this?! I plead guilty to this most of the time that I shop! I think it is partly due to our consumeristic society. And well, oh if it's a cheap price, why not?! But then I have to look in my closet near the bathroom, and become all too aware of unnecessary purchases. so, I will try and implement alot of your ideas and suggestions here. I know and realize its different for each person, but I will try and do my part. I think it helps so much, when your spouse or household is on board.
I agree! You're off to a great start. I wouldn't give a second to negative comments. I appreciate you sharing. I was raised to be very materialistic and now at age 50 I'm trying to reverse this way of thinking. You're an inspiration young lady. Keep up the good work!!
I get honest, genuine vibes from this. A lot of UA-cam “minimalists” tend to preach really unrealistic ways of living. These tips are all amazing and seriously do come naturally from growing up without money and COLLEGE. 🤗😘
Haha it’s not sad! I think it’s awesome. Small “luxuries” I don’t indulge in are just how I live, it’s not struggling! ie. I don’t buy bottled water or any type of packaged “drink” for my fridge! I keep a Brita pitcher in the fridge and when I feel like a flavored drink I’ll add a crystal light packet! (Or Hawaiian Punch or whatever) 80-90% of the drinks I consume are just water! No pre-packaged drinks, wasting money on flavored juices, etc. Small but I save lots of money on not buying drinks consistently! (Plus, once your body is used to water everything else tastes like syrup) 🤗🤗😋
Wish I didn’t read the comments. You do you boo. I appreciate how you see minimalism. Again, everyone’s minimalist lifestyle won’t be the same. They are still people.
I've been buying men's deodorant (u get more for the price). 💰 I also prefer to add men's basic clothing to my feminine wardrobe (the quality is often better).
perhaps you don't use deodorant but that doesn't mean someone else who lives a minimalistic lifestyle can't use deodorant. i don't think they're mutually exclusive :)
You guys ever notice how when a woman does something that everyone else is doing, people hate it? I never see this kind of doubt and negativity on Matt D'Avella's channel. She's literally just sitting in front of the camera and speaking. She doesn't waste your time about the tattoo, just says "I have a tattoo but I'm not going to talk about it in this video; Let me know if I should make a video talking about it" and people go ape at her even mentioning it. Why?
I have no idea how it shows for you, 2 months later, you're the first comment to introduce negativity. I mean, there's plenty of appreciation and sharing of experiences when I watch this video and scroll through the comments. There has to be a few "Why is everyone .." ".. people hate it" comments. Which is sad. I'm sorry that your post wasn't intended to be negative, but is my first contact with it on this video.
I think the thing that most Minimal people dont post about is the fact that while it looks like you are getting rid of everything its really just making more time and space for the things you throughly love and enjoy
I absolutely love this lifestyle. I get kind of annoyed at how much unnecessary shit is being produced just to be thrown out. Everything I own could fit in a car.
Saaaaame I worked at Goodwill and it amazed me how much unnecessary crap people would donate sometimes brand new items. That job made me not wanna buy things that don't add value in my life. Minus furniture everything I own can fit in my outback!
@@christopherp2435 went to Goodwill recently..absolutely the best place to shop. We are sure a wasteful society. I'm am trying to minimize after years of spending on things that now gather dust🙂
My life was like that until my child became a teen (except I drive a truck, so there's even room for a full size bed) We'll see what happens when she goes to college...
Can't relate to the bulk thing ... Buying toilet paper and paper towel and cleaning stuff in bulk is always the way to go. 🙄🙄 I'm too busy to be shopping for that stuff everytime I run out...
Well she has no kids that’s for sure, because with kids purchasing toilet paper in bulk is a MUST... I’d addition to saving more when buying in bulk and spending responsibly you save on gas ⛽️
@@moa6081 there's no text book definition of minimalism. Some people own only what they can put in a backpack, and some own much more than that but don't buy a bunch of crap. Trying to say you can't be a minimalist if you have some plants is pretty odd to me, maybe you're the one that doesn't understand.
100% agree with not buying mass-produced "art" and trinkets. There are so many creative people out there who make things. Yeah, it's usually pricier than the Target stuff that was made in China, but you don't NEED tons of decor and you're supporting an actual person!
It’s so bizarre to me that people are pointing out her tattoos as if it isn’t “minimalist”... in my mind, minimalism serves the purpose of keeping life simple and reducing carbon footprint. She mentioned she buys local art; I’d say tattoos kind of fall into that category. I’m so inspired by her lifestyle!
I used to be a minimalist, then we had a child and now my life is full of brightly coloured plastic shite. On a serious note, I think a lot of people could learn from this. One thing I do is to keep cell phones until they are broken beyond repair. Cell phones contain conflict materials and the need to have an iPhone 12 not an iPhone 11 (or whatever) is fuelling that.
Fantasy self. Life changing! I didn’t realize why the superfluous nature of my shopping habits never felt like it “Fit Me”. I’d buy something just to “try something new” and always end up seeing it as junk and clutter. Now I know. Your message has helped me put myself into perspective. Thanks, Janell.
Great video. What really stood out was buying for your fantasy self. I do this often. I actually have clothes shoes makeup and wigs for my fantasy self. She is a girl who travels a lot and has special (themed) clothes for each place like she has sequin outfits for Vegas and all white clothes for a cruise etc. When in reality I hate traveling. I'm a homebody who only vacations at a quiet beach and prefers to wear black. Thank you. This is a strange behavior that needs to stop.
Guys chill out! She is enjoying her life as she wants it to be and if she wants to call her minimalist let her. She is not forcing you to do all this or leave everything. She is just sharing her experience.
I really love this. Especially the part about your “fantasy” self. It’s so true that we tend to think we need a bunch of items for entertaining, partying, etc. when in real life some of us are just casually having a low key night. I’ll be moving soon so this video is EXACTLY what I needed. 👌🏻
I'm trying to save money and simultaneously stop acquiring clutter and things that I don't need. The 'fantasy self' part really got me. I'm guilty of that.
Why is everyone commenting on the tattoos? That's body art. And you can take it everywhere and it takes up no space. I'd say that's minimalist. Plus it doesn't even count.
@@miracles4176 she's been minimalist for 5 years, is 5 years her whole life? No, probably she got them before she went minimalist (for your reference this is my first video of her so i don't know if she mentioned it before).
I don’t see why people care. Most minimalists are not *completely* minimalist because they also have interests and hobbies. She’s minimalist 99% of the time, why can’t she enjoy herself and have a tattoo? Besides - they don’t take up space, they don’t require upkeep or anything like that.
Jessica M. you’re either a troll or an idiot. do you really think that having a short haircut, or art on your body, makes you a bad person? why is it not okay to live like that? who the fuck makes the rules? i don’t like tattoos either, because i find them sort of ugly. but who cares if someone else has a tattoo? they’re not forcing you to get one. sounds like you’re just an awful judgmental hag and i truly feel sorry for your daughters, that they have to be raised by you.
“In order to save money or something like that” 😂. Bottom line, if you buy multiples of something that is on sale, as long as it’s a staple like toilet paper (assuming you still buy that), you ARE saving money. No need for air quotes 😂. I fully support the minimalist thing you have going here, but just understand you are spending more money by buying just one at a time.
Yes. She said she would use more if she had more. I don't think that's true for things like toliet paper. Lol. I'm more frugal than minimalist, I guess.
I bought a set of 4 towels and cut them up in pieces of 3inch by 3 inch. I put them into a bucket of water. This is my toilet paper. The used towel tp I put in another bucket and I wash those each time my clean bucket is almost empty. It's been 6 years since I bought my last paper toiletpaper.
Love the video but I disagree on the bulk items. Sure it’s not “minimalists” but for dish soap/toilet paper/body soap/paper towels/over the counter medicine I absolutely know buying in bulk saves money. Like I bought a years worth of allergy medicine I take everyday from Costco for $30 instead of a months supply which is $15. Saved a lot of money that way.
She didn't say she was a thrifty spender. Minimalism is a reduction in acquiring things, and that is what she is trying to do, acquire less things. So bulk things are multiples to save money, but you end up with more things. If your main target is to save money, yes you should buy in bulk.
I'm getting so sick and tired of having "stuff" especially when it is stuff that has to be dusted. Some "decor" is so unnecessary and doesn't just clutter your home but your mind. A lot of excess buying comes from being bored or unhappy. When you get the urge to buy, distract yourself by doing something creative or constructive. Ask yourself "Do I need it or do I want it". The internet has made it so easy to buy stuff as opposed to when you had no choice but to go to an actual store. I would have so much more money in the bank if I had to schlepp to a store for everything like before 2000. It's convenient for grocery deliveries and I find having groceries delivered cuts out a lot of impulse buying. That's a positive for me. No food staring me in the face like in a store but just pictures of food on a screen is way better. The only thing will not cut down on is buying household products on sale because they don't expire and I do a lot of laundry. I won't even get into my walk in closet situation...UGH.
Thats what ive always done lol. Literally every object except food that i own is because i fell in love with it. Many things i have actually were purchased the next day while returning to said shop because i couldnt get my mind off it. It doesnt happen very often either.
Jim - Is your real name 'Jim Shoes'??? I'm not making fun of your name, just think it's cute if your parents really chose the first name knowing your last name is Shoes. No offense intended here. I know a woman with the last name Cane. Her mother named her Candy.
I love how relatable you are. Some youtubers and bloggers make minimalism seem daunting and drastic. I appreciate your realness and honestly that you occasionally do spend money on silly things like magnets. Love!!
Minimalism should be able to make us happier instead of depressing! Because with the money we saved by going minimalist we should be able to pursue what we like. If fashion/magnets makes us happy, then it should still be minimalism if we press other expenses
Another thing to consider when labelling yourself a minimalist is that if you're like me, you'll spend about 15,000 friggen hours in your head trying to work out the most "minimal" way to do something and by doing so, you're defeating the purpose of minimalism by wasting all that mental energy haha
This is my second time viewing your content, just finished the hoarder childhood video as well. People are being vile in the comments here so I just want to tell you, in case you still read these, that I completely understand the fact that these things aren't just "standard money spending tips." Growing up in poverty with people who constantly feel the need to buy new (crappy!) things and get their nails done every two weeks despite not being able to afford rent.. it's EXTREMELY difficult to break out of that cycle! The commenters here are speaking at you from a place of such privilege. Having the opportunity to learn that the way of life we have grown up in is NOT the answer is not easy to come by. We have to search for it like a blind person searching for something based on color - we do not even know what the thing we need to know looks like. And then Learning it on our own is only the first step, too. Then you have to have the confidence to implement it in your life and be completely misunderstood by family who you love but they 'just don't get you.' SIGH. Anyway. Do your thing, girl. New subscriber here.
This is so relatable. I am learning to be a minimalist too, I got into debt and realized that I didn't need more than half of the things I spent money on
I do come from that place of privilege and I am very grateful for my upbringing. I love this comment for being so kind and also eye-opening for people like me. It would have never occured to write a mean comment like the ones you see here, but I have to admit some of those thoughts crossed my mind. Thanks for helping me become a better human. :)
JimsEquipmentShed but she is spending less it seems on things that would just create more waste for the planet. Having tattoos doesn't really affect the planet, I believe.
Yes i'm definitely interested in a convo on minimalism while being broke. It's one of those things that (i think) is super difficult to do when you're really broke. Mainly bc you don't have the means to save up for an expensive purchase that will last you for years rather than a cheap purchase that will break sooner than later. But I think another aspect of it is also unlearning the habit of looking to buy as cheap as possible thinking it's saving money vs. buying things as investment items.
You should try looking into zero waste lifestyle tips. The first I can think of right off my mind is using cloth napkins (super cheap to buy or stupidly cheap to diy some). Eliminating plastic from your life is very refreshing, easy and CHEAP.
Quality isn't always more expensive! I use to shop at old navy end of year sales + coupons and actually look at the clothes that wanted to buy. If I felt like it was to fall apart quickly I skipped over it. I've found a lot of "higher quality" brands are super delicate and require special handling and that's not minimal for me. A fleece jacket from from Walmart (which isn't even that cheap anymore) serves the same functional purpose for warmth as a north face once and can last just as long. I don't want to comment to get super long but I will definitely make a video on this!
I have a variable (and small) income, so I definitely agree! I think it's different because I can't wait until I need something to go buy it because the money may not be there, and I can't just toss multiples out of my life.
YESSSS. My money is fleeting 😂 F21 cheap jewelry is a must, I know it sucks but $2 tho... Also, when you don’t have stable/reliable income, you learn how to strrrretttch even the lowest quality/cheapest items. College will make you a minimalist by force 😂🤷🏽♀️🤑
wldlvndr, I can definitely identify with your point. Depending on the item, you might be able to collaborate with friends/family to save money and reduce waste and duplication on your purchases. Eg there are plenty of household items that we don't need to own individually - if you agree with a neighbour that you will buy a slow cooker together, you can get a decent one and each take turns to use it for some bulk cooking each week, while you both save up either to buy a second cooker so you each have one, or something else to share. That way you both save money on electricity and ingredients, you can make healthy food, and you avoid the waste of each buying a crappy machine that will break and need to be replaced. It can also work on an entire neighbourhood level, eg with gardening/DIY equipment, or you can buddy up with a group, like circulating baby toys/book around all the parents in your prenatal class. Those examples might not apply to you, but if you can find similar ways to reduce your consumption, it might allow you to use that money on better-quality long-term purchases that you need.
I wear all black, I don't worry about fashion and I can thrift cooler pieces while maintaining a smaller wardrobe. I own weddings rings, 1 pair of diamond studs, and 1 watch. I always look put together and am complimented. I use a bar of soap for face and body, boom done! I use rosehip oil for moisturizing. My home decor is candles, plants and some crystals, in moderation. I removed figurines/chochtkies. I took down all my pics and made albums for my son. I don't collect souvenirs either, I take a lot of pics to enjoy.
This hardly seems like minimalism..... This just sounds like spending wisely and efficiently.... Your spending habits are similar to mine and by no means do I consider myself a minimalist
Sahlia Wong-Composer literally same!! I have the same spending habits but I've never called myself a minimalist, seems too pretentious for "I spend my money right"
I think she considers herself minimalist in that she doesn’t go out of her way to acquire new things (not necessarily buying) that don’t serve a purpose. At least that’s how I view minimalism.
I think people confuse minimalism with simple living. They are similar but different. I see a lot of "minimalist" that are actually just practicing simple living.
Thank you for your genuine truthfulness. For me it is about living more simply with high end items that will last longer. In the long run it still saves you more money than having to replace things.
I definitely appreciate this. Capitalism has kind of trained us that we need/want all this cool stuff. But at the same time, if it’s something that makes you happy and you know you will use it to it’s fullest extent, then go ahead and buy it.
There is a difference in the lifestyle vs the "looks" I happen to like both but you don't have to have all white spaces or that sort of look by any means!
Emma Cassady yeah I’ve seen other minimalist including myself that have a more colorful with lots of pattern type of style (bohoiish) which I think she said was sort of her “fancy” self.
You can adapt certain parts of the lifestyle. It’s not important to do everything. Its just got a lot of sense to it. People who have a lot of clothes can still look trendy and homogenous. Style is more about choosing and putting together things. And looking good has more to do with taking good care of yourself.
The only true parallel is the limited number of quality items, so I guess that results in a similar aesthetic. However, if you really examine them people living a minimalist lifestyle choose specific items that they personally find add value. Perhaps minimalism lends a hand to better overall style.
I keep a well stocked kitchen. Keeps me from eating out. I don't have alot of kitchen gadgets because if you have the basics you can get the job done. I do buy extra when it's on sale (20# kitty lotter today). If I stock up on the basics when their on sale. If I run out of toilet paper, I will pay full price if I have to also keeps me out of the store.
I love that you mentioned several times that before you shop you have a goal in mind of what to get and you hold yourself accountable to stick to it. I do this in different parts of my life (what type of meal I will order for dinner, how many drinks I will have at the party, how many business cards I will hand out at an event before I’ll head home), and it helps me to make better choices and not be easily influenced. Thank you!
Interesting how you don't buy multiples of anything. Thanks for sharing your minimalist lifestyle. I find it challenging to be a minimalist while living with non-minimalists.
Holy crap, I think I'm a minimalist and never knew it. I am all of this list plus no greeting, birthday cards (wasteful) and no wrapping paper (wasteful) and I have one cup I have for coffee, one cup for tea, and one for water...I could go on. I'm not cheap, I just feel that clutter around the body makes for clutter around the mind.
I'm minimalist because i just do not care about a lot of things. Sometimes i wanna buy a few things and then, when i have the money for those items, i always decide to keep my money for something else.
It seems like common sense, now days, has gone out the window. That’s why they want socialism. They think that means more for them without having to earn it. Socialism actually means the government owns everything and decides who gets what. Yes, common sense seems to be a thing of the past.
So, Janelle... I placed your video in my 'watch now' YT folder. I'm so glad, I watched. You are so positive and refreshing. I'm learning to stop buying unnecessary things. I've come to realize that I bought them for other people and not myself. Thank you for so much needed realization... And, P.s. My fantasy self, needed to hear that too, will no longer by stuff to satisfy a fantasy. Subscribed!
I mean, i respect your point of view, but i don't understand why it has to have a name, your life decisions sound very normal to me. I live a very similar life myself, and i know a lot of people who do the same, but i have never thought it actually had a label. It makes me question if one can live a life without trying to fit in a category.
Minimalism is the concept of only allowing into your life those things which truly add value, and jettisoning all the rest. Minimalism is intentionality. Many people live this way by necessity with their physical possessions, and indeed that's where many minimalists start. But minimalism applies to all facets of one's life. Minimalists take this attitude towards the friends and family they choose to spend their time and energy on, their choice of profession, the entertainment they consume, and the experiences they undertake. If a friendship doesn't add value, it can be dropped (politely, of course). If going to a particular concert that "all your friends are going to" won't add value, it can be skipped. And these decisions are made thoughtfully, with clear definitions for the values one holds and what things, people, and experiences will add measurable good to one's life. Again, there are many people who take this attitude naturally, and don't label it. But for those of us who grew up in an immediate social culture obsessed with having more of everything--more stuff, more friends, more money, more entertainment--and the right /kind/ of everything--the right friends, the right job, the right tastes--minimalism as a label is helpful for deliberately transitioning to an attitude of intentionality.
I would actually recommend looking into a Fitbit! You mentioned you’re looking for a watch you like, and that’s what I primarily use mine for. But it also reminds me to eat, walk around, and meditate, but it doesn’t bother me with text messages or social media or anything. I bought two bands that I switch between and it’s the perfect way for me to look “put together” but not to have to actually own any jewelry. Also with souvenirs/ art: I started buying only postcards as souvenirs. I can hang them up as art, or keep them in a book I travel around with to write down all my adventures.
Seriously? You need an electronic device to remind you to eat, walk around and meditate? People are getting way too influenced by gadgets, or should I say the companies that make you think you need these gadgets but really just want your money. We are born with a physical sensation that causes us to eat...it's a rumbling stomach. If you need to walk or meditate, just go do it. Your life is way to complicated if you need a gadget to remind you to do these things. Try getting more in touch with your natural innate self/needs. So many people are losing touch especially with eating issues; eating out of boredom, anxiety, or just because it's time to eat, not considering if they are actually physically hungry.
Sweet Stuff all that shit is constantly asking for attention! As a woman & a mom, that's the LAST thing I need ... something else continuously bugging me! LOL
I'm 16 and have started becoming more minimalistic. I went through all my clothes and belongings and binned/gave away loads of stuff that I just didn't need/want. Now all I have are my clothes (not many), a very sentimental stuffed animal, my guitar, school stuff, books and CDs. I do have way too many books though, so I'll go through those at some point.
Hannah Scott audio and library are the way to go! I am a big book fanatic but I forced myself to give em away so other's could enjoy. Now the only books I own are the Game of thrones box set that was a gift from my hubby and the holdfast Chronicles that I have one more to buy to finish the collection but I plan on gifting as a set to a friend when I am done. Getting rid of extra Shelving helped because I no longer had the space to fill with stuff which was most likely to occur in time
Everyone at this point SHOULD know what is meaning of minimalist..is not rocket science...just trow some shit away you don't need, don't overflow you apt, stop buying in expensive stores, done. I like your apt and how it look. You look like down to earth girl.👍keep it up.
Man, I have been binge watching these types of videos and it totally inspired me to really embrace what I had been wanting but too afraid to go after. And let me tell you, every time I declutter and just stop buying things all the time in case of the "What if's", it truly reduces my stress and anxiety! It has been so freeing to not have my house cluttered with stuff! I decided to make my own video on 20 things I don't buy, hoping to inspire my tribe in the same direction! Keep up the great content!
mens razors are cheaper than womens. usually anything packaged in pink for women is at least 10% higher priced. I shop the Dollar Tree stores for many products than are just as good and you can purchase name brand toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo food and razors there.
Same. A lot of these companies are sexist IMHO. If it does the same thing for either gender and it's the same size, why is women's higher priced? I've heard some women's products are smaller sized yet MORE EXPENSIVE. I love Dollar Tree bc I can get everything for one price. I've bought unscented or sensitive shaving cream that both my bro and I can use.
They're not the same thing, though, are they? They're qualitatively different. They're not actually charging women a higher price for the same product. They're charging anyone who buys the other product a higher price. The pink razors cost more whether the purchaser is a man or a woman. The flowery-scented deodorant cost more whether the purchaser is a man or a woman. But a pink razor is no the same as a blue razor; it is a different color. The flowery-scented deodorant is not the same as the woodsy-smelling deodorant; it smells different. Any woman who genuinely believes those products are the same should just buy the cheaper blue razors, the cheaper woodsy-smelling deodorant, etc.
I get all mens accessories. I learned this early. Made fun of in high school for wearing boys shirts and shorts, but they were like 5 bucks at the thrift store.
The reality is that you are the definition of beautiful - not because you're natural etc but you clearly look comfortable in your own skin. That speaks so loudly.
I am not minimalist by any means but I feel that I have many of the same “rules”. The only thing I must do is buy multiples or else I end up spending too much on gas going back/forth to store.
Marvelous! I especially love "I no longer buy things for my fantasy self." Me too. I didn't learn that until I was approximately twice (plus!) your age. Good for you!!
Yesssss! The “fantasy self” video will be soooo helpful. I’ve had so many fantasy versions of myself throughout my life. Sometimes they change daily and keeping myself in check can be daunting.
Wow I have never herd anyone else address shopping for your "fantasy self" and I'm so glad you mentioned it. I know this is always something I do and have struggled with. That part really hit home.
I buy waaayyyy too much. Sometimes I just want to get rid of it all and start over again. Maybe the answer is to have a boot sale for the things I don't want and then to STOP buying anything else I don't need. It is tricky for me clothes wise because I've lost a lot of weight and am still losing weight so I am getting through clothes quickly but I still buy more than I need. I feel inspired to cut back.
True shit about buying things for the real you, not the FANTASY you! That really resignates with me. I shop for the me I wanted to be but I found that I just never wear that stuff at the end of the day lol
I thrift a lot of my wardrobe, and when something rips or gets stained, I re-dye it, cut it up for cleaning rags or upcycle it into something different for a fresh take on it and prolong its use.
I hate thrift stores. The prices they have you can easily find at a regular store. Plus use the coupons they offer to get an even discount. New clothes for a cheap price! And if you want name brands, go to an outlet!
Like, I constantly have to put back cool trinkets and stuff when I go shopping with friends cuz I know I don't have anywhere to put them! XD (or I buy it and have to figure out how to make room for it..). Like, I love the idea of only travelling with a backpack and having everything I need~ instead of having to worry about a suitcase *and* 3 other bags. But my parents instilled in me the mentality of "take a jacket, bc what if the building's cold?" So I'm always prepared... And I'm a FANTASTIC candidate for a zombie apocalypse! X'D But I just have too much stuff..... 😫 I can't handle..
You're drop dead gorgeous. 😍 Minimalist living is not about having an empty home, but about being mindful of your consumerism and living within your means. I really hope you keep making content!
I have a master's degree and still haven't escaped poverty...time to rethink my career choice. Good ideas. Because I've experienced unemployment before I still buy a bit extra on daily products so that if need be we can stay clean. I also live where snow tell you if you can leave your house or not so buying bulk makes more sense. Thank you for some new tips.
Honestly, minimalism is great at first glance, but at a closer look it is expensive. For starters, I don't have a dryer which means that for winter I need to have more than two pieces of clothes. Someone would think I should just buy dryer, but it is kinda expensive and more important it consumes a lot of electricity. I would have at least 50% higher electricity bill. You can live minimalist life and have full closet of clothes and buy in bulk(toilet paper, shampoo, rice, sugar etc), but biggest problem with it is that it is not called minimalist any more. It is called cheap and I am kinda cheap, to a reasonable point. Best way to live realistic minimalist life imho is to buy a house with a garden(80-100m2)when you find that special someone and raise your own veggies and plant few fruit trees that are eco, in the season make your own tomato juice, marmalade, pickle something for winter.
Nothing says a minimalist can't have a dryer. It depends on what you find important and how far you want to go. I'm someone that has too much stuff. So even striving to be a minimalist is making a huge impact on my life. I buy so much less now. I haven't achieved anything like real minimalism but the idea is not to be a thoughtless consumer.
I know my sister uses it, so you definitely can. I also use olive oil sometimes. I find that using oil for shaving also makes you skin feel extra smooth and soft.
Janell I hope you read this, I just wanted to say watching your videos changed my outlook on buying and owning items. I had always admired those that live a zero waste lifestyle but I knew that was impossible for me. I had always thought minimalism was just a tumblr aesthetic of sorts and a bit pretentious- however when you explained why you chose this lifestyle, I felt myself really relating to having similar problems. I have always loved clothing as a child and that became a big part of me expressing myself... at least I thought. I realized that I mainly bought clothes to relieve stress and never wore items as much as I believed I did. I also came from a poor background where buying things in bulk for a “good deal” and accepting hand me downs was normal, even when I didn’t need or want the items. There is definitely an idea about consuming that circulates for people from poor income backgrounds that I never thought bothered me until now. Everyone in my family keeps things they don’t need and while they aren’t hoarders they definitely waste their money and storage/ living space on things that just clutter. I was doing the same thing and I wanted to stop this cycle once and for all with me. Right now I am purging- only after four days of discovering your channel. Your videos are fun and calming to watch at the same time; which I appreciate so much (that takes talent in my eyes!). I can’t wait for what you make next. :)
I don't really understand why you don't buy in bulk. Some things I could understand, like dish soap, 1 bottle could last months. But, for me, if I can buy multiple of things I use I will. Like meats (I'll freeze them), canned foods, sponges for dishes, toilet paper. Not sure if that's what you were referring to, but clarification would be appreciated! Thanks!
I agree with most of these things and I subscribe to the whole minimalism thing but to call yourself a "minimalist" is just cringe to me. I think it's probably because most "minimalists" I've come across are obnoxious and self righteous. They take their beliefs and see them as superior to none minimalists' beliefs and it's infuriating. I'd prefer to just live how you live and not label it like it's a faction or a cult. Plus by calling yourself a minimalist, it feels like you have to 100% dedicate yourself to it which is just a ball ache and defeats the purpose of minimalism.
Yeah I do agree people apply this 'fashion' of minimalism and call it minimalism. I think the fashion term is 'hipster' of something lol? But the whole appearance or fashion of it isn't what minimalism is. On the contrary, I personally don't think this statement "It has nothing to do with a real pre-industrial traditional way of life, which was about duty, humily, labor and self-sacrifice." is what minimalism is supposed to be either. I think that's a pretty literal and old fashioned approach to it but this is the thing with minimalism, it's a different meaning for everyone. Personally I just see it plain and simple, cut the bullshit from your life. Anything that is pointless, doesn't make sense, causes extra unnecessary steps in life, cut it out. Simple as that really. Nothing to do with the way you look, talk, act etc.
"I cook just to survive." LOL ditto. I am a bulk buyer for the things I use all the time + exclusively i.e. ACV, white vinegar, kiss my face soap, bamboo toothbrushes, and spinach. I use ACV + KMF for my hair & scalp--> see Minimalist Beauty (Dawn Michelle's blog) and KMF as my body wash & face wash. I use white vinegar for cleaning fruit, veg, countertops, and presoaking my sweaty gym clothes. I eat spinach every day: freeze it with berries for my breakfast smoothie, use it for my favorite lunch: vegan spinach enchiladas, and eat it in salads for dinner so whenever those big bags are marked down I snatch up a couple. Every year and a half I order a set of 4 bamboo toothbrushes off Amazon since I can't find them anywhere this far east of Dallas, it's cheaper for me to just buy bulk when I order my textbooks for the semester. To help me I found keeping lists of what clothes I have and what clothes I need (not want) helps me stay focused when hunting at thrift shops and Poshmark. Also, that pressed flower piece is beeeeaaauuuutiful. *gasp
S Missions reduces crude oil use, cuts down on waste that ends in land fill, they’re compostable, they will not degrade into microplastics that we’ll end up eating and drinking, limits exposure to endocrine disruptors
I appreciate how fast you talk, actually. No need to apologize. I just tried watching a couple other videos on this topic, and they took a long time to cover a topic. I stopped watching after a minute. I usually prefer to read. I read faster than someone would talk. Your video made a lot of sense.
This is a good video. I can't wait to have my own space, because I want to practice minimalism without any distractions. I am good at not buying things or clothes and I tend to be simple, I impulse buy on food though.
“Fantasy self” really hit me! I’m not an Instagram model or some kind of influencer and I cannot afford to pay money to look as so. I love that you hit this point! Also, cool name 😙
This is the first time watching one of your videos. I loved it. Thank you for your honesty. Many of these tips seem like common sense but I think we all need a reminder at times, even me. Thank you for getting straight to the point and for giving a well rounded list of recommendations. Some people talk a lot but only give advice on a few things. I don't know you but you seem to be very grounded and have a good head on your shoulders. Also, you are naturally beautiful, no need for makeup. Keep up the good work!
I am so glad you touched on the subject of the fantasy self! There are so many pieces of clothing I kept or bought thinking I would wear (mostly boho things as of late) and I really just end up wearing them once or twice. I let myself go a little crazy and get a couple (literally two) cute tanks for yoga classes recently, but I wear the hell out of them. Maybe one day when I’m older I’ll have the patience to own tons of clothing but for now minimalism makes the most sense.
First video I have watched of yours. You are a very smart lady. I’m so much older and just starting my journey to minimalism. I do buy bulk - when are you not going to need toilet paper - yeah, I not going that far😎❤️💝💐🙋🏻
Not everyone has a family or goes to the bathroom that much or had a big butt that uses more paper 😂 or has a vehicle to drag around the bulk. I think it’s great if Luu can get away with not having the bulk. I buy TP in bulk but store it away and I don’t have to buy any for a while.
When buying bulk bathroom tissue, I'm saving many trips to the store. Less fuel, less time, and fewer opportunities for impulse buys while picking up tissue.
Interesting. I think I have been somewhat of a minimalist most of my life. At 59 I now live in a tiny house on wheels so I have room for my necessities, period. Couldn't be happier not having so much 'stuff' to watch over. I save more of my pension than I spend each month and, what could be better than that? Nice vlog Janell. Thanks.
I absolutely love this! I feel like recently we just have evolved into a culture of hoarders and we do it in life and on social media and it is so freeing to walk away from all the empty stuff and unhealthy things that we don’t even need or use.
Hi Janell, thanks for the great video! Menstrual cup was a game changer for me, no fuss, no waste, no nonsense. I would love to see the 'fantasy self' video. You always seem to bring a down-to-earth, informed, but effortless vibe, which I find rare and refreshing. Keep it up :)
@@JanellKristina yes, Texas must be really tough in summer. We are having a heat wave at the moment in Boston but I know it will cool down on Friday. Love your video
thumbs up for no cable.. cutting mine soon after I watch some stuff I taped.. they keep increasing the price for me to watch just 6 channels.. Gotta have A/C in Florida too much humidity and heat and the houses are air tight. when we lost power in past hurricanes it was torture..

Thanks for the request you guys and the views on this video is getting WILD. I appreciate the love and positivity!!!
MY DEFINITION OF MINIMALISM:
For my current lifestyle, it’s to only own things I love and need + have everything I own fit in my car (minus my couch and mattress) so I can move easily.
FAQ: I buy toliet paper four at a time, the pillows also are for my bed, I love art and tattoos so even if they're not minimal I want a few things I love on display.
Janell Kristina I love your short hair, I’m struggling with depression,,, causing me to be extremely poor.
here’s what people are misinformed about in these comments: being a minimalist isn’t about having a completely empty home, it’s about only having things that truly add value to your life.
Will Freeark I gave you your 100 like so you are welcome.
Cat, I hv cat.
Oooo
“I no longer buy things for my fantasy self”. Woah, that hit home. I sense a life changing moment coming on.
Welcome to the light haha
Claud Bot sammmee!!! I felt that!!! 😂😂😂😂
You should definitely do a video on that.
A couple of years ago I bought a nice camera for street photography, but found it wasn't really me. When traveling I would rather meet new people and enjoy the moment, than stress with a camera to capture it.
queertales ... some things are meant only for the eyes.

@Margherita Pomptuch worthless items. Not much sentiment behind them. They may just be cute STUFF.
I love the list. Helped me condense everything she said
thanks
We love u!!!
one thing I started doing to help stop impulse buys:
I used to get $13 an hour (I'm only sixteen) so when I'd splurge at the shops and grab all these unnecessary items, i would ask myself "would i really spend (however many hours) out of my day working if it just meant that I'd get to have this" or if i accumulated $40 worth of impulse buys (for only 3 or 4 items) in my cart - I'd ask myself "would I really do a 3 hour shift but not earn money for it, earn these items instead?".
I hope i'm making sense bc i'm not the greatest at explaining things but yeah. that's the gist of it
I would do that, too. It’s effective.
That is a wise way of handling finances that will serve you well as you get older. If you view your purchases that way, as if you’re working and putting in time for those specific items, it will help you make smart decisions and only bring things home that you’re genuinely happy to have.
Awesome I'm going to try this!
I do that too and it makes a huge difference!
The rule is..If you don't NEED it..LOVE it..or USE it every day...get rid of it....I have learned that there is a big difference between WANT and NEED
sally simonds I used to think I am a minimalist until I saw this video then I realised how much clutter I still have...maybe it's because I share a room with a hoarder
Lucy Yeah, she said need, love, OR use.. It doesn't have to be all three. 😊
I took a screen shot of your comment 👌🏻
I don't buy anything because I don't have money!
GTFoh lol
Koothodil Abhijith Augustine Get a job.....
Koothodil Abhijith Augustine my best advice. When you have money don’t buy anything
@@Henry0870 am a student
Koothodil Abhijith Augustine When I was still a student/went to school, I always had small jobs. In the evenings or weekends. 😉
I love the fact that your still buy art and things to kind of decorate your apartment a little bit - Hate the stereotypes that all minimalists have empty apartments.
Yes one minimalist had 2 forks, 2 spoons, 2 cups, 2 plates, 1 pen , 2 lamps, 1 light bulb (haha). etc.
nataliaanio no offense, but that's kinda tha point of minimalism...
no its not, its about giving every thing a purpose not just owning things and buying new things every week with no purpose
Essentialism, every object has more worth
Why is NO ONE talking about how beautiful she is like wow.
Some of these replies are a mess, theres nothing wrong with appreciating someones beauty which by the look of these replies is subjective.
RIGHT! She’s gorgeous!!
@Godel Escher Bach Nope short hair was made for this woman. I get the preference thing but it doesnt take away that shes gorgeous, short hair or not her face is beautiful.
Chumani Nakani 🤢
Chumani Nakani no
Because while she is beautiful, it's irrelevant to the subject matter
UA-cam people ... this young woman is just basically sensible & chooses to spend her money on the things she finds important to her ... why do people have to judge so harshly? Young lady, you make good sense & the few things you do own are lovely ... don’t let the UA-cam downers get you down, you be you ... best wishes ... p.s. I like your taste in the things that are visible in this video 😉🌸
Louise Topfer thank you 🙏🏽
I think most Americans try and justify their spending and some of their purchases, myself included. it is so easy to tell myself, yeah, I can use another pair of pants, another shirt that is on sale, a new make-up that sounds great, but in reality do I really need this?!
Louise Topfer I agree and it helps to put things into perspective watching videos like this.
Remember People With No Self Worth Are Stupid 🙄🙄🙄
Exactly! You spoke my mind
This is so sad ☹️
I second this! I think she's great. And it's super relatable.
OMG 😮- exactly
(Plus, once your body is used to water everything else tastes like syrup) 🤗🤗😋
the "fantasy self" thing is so real, please make a video on the topic!
Yes want a video too
Wish I didn’t read the comments. You do you boo. I appreciate how you see minimalism. Again, everyone’s minimalist lifestyle won’t be the same. They are still people.
Giovanna Peterson thank for the positivity (or at least not hate) 💚

I've been buying men's deodorant (u get more for the price). 💰
I also prefer to add men's basic clothing to my feminine wardrobe (the quality is often better).
honeybdream and more comfortable!!
haha I've been buying women's deodorant, like Dove coconut, for a long time. The scent in men's deodorant is way to strong for my taste.
Minimalists don't use deodorant :)
perhaps you don't use deodorant but that doesn't mean someone else who lives a minimalistic lifestyle can't use deodorant. i don't think they're mutually exclusive :)
Schmidt's deodorant is natural and actually works, took me years to find that stuff.
Why?
typhlosionisbest ^^^ thank you!!
I'm sorry that your post wasn't intended to be negative, but is my first contact with it on this video.
typhlosionisbest Literally just fuck them 🖕🏾
Cause some people find simplicity weird when it comes to females? I’m a female and find it very liberating to be a minimalist.
You notice, because you look for it
I think the thing that most Minimal people dont post about is the fact that while it looks like you are getting rid of everything its really just making more time and space for the things you throughly love and enjoy
Buy a cheap plot of land and then learn about homesteading.....your car is not a home.
@@oOSabianOo I don't even have a car. I was just saying my stuff can fit in a car.
@@christopherp2435 went to Goodwill recently..absolutely the best place to shop. We are sure a wasteful society. I'm am trying to minimize after years of spending on things that now gather dust🙂
My life was like that until my child became a teen (except I drive a truck, so there's even room for a full size bed)
We'll see what happens when she goes to college...
Can't relate to the bulk thing ... Buying toilet paper and paper towel and cleaning stuff in bulk is always the way to go. 🙄🙄 I'm too busy to be shopping for that stuff everytime I run out...
That’s what I was thinking . She lost me there lol
Well she has no kids that’s for sure, because with kids purchasing toilet paper in bulk is a MUST...
I’d addition to saving more when buying in bulk and spending responsibly you save on gas ⛽️
and its cheaper if you buy in a bulk! at least in my country, México
Marisol R it’s cheaper everywhere for everything!
NESS S. Mostly yes, but there are some things where its vise versa
Minimalists never minimilize plants
Some do #Messyminimalist . But they do bring a sense of life to a place and fresh air
There are a lot of plants that clean the air, so I think if you're gonna be a maximalist in a particular category, plants are a good idea.
Ernesto Vega yes they do, I'm not sure you people understand minimalism
Amanda H there's no such thing as a messy minimalist, you either are or you're not
@@moa6081 there's no text book definition of minimalism.
Meaghan Wray exactly. I think it’s quite bizarre too. What she does with her body is none of anybody’s business and not up for discussion.
Yes! Minimalism to me means being minimal on the things that aren't truly important to you so you can focus on what is important to you!!
That's because you have to dress like the person you want to become not the person you are.
Maybe you should start letting her out and taking her where she wants to go and letting her wear those things?
Guys chill out! She is enjoying her life as she wants it to be and if she wants to call her minimalist let her. She is not forcing you to do all this or leave everything. She is just sharing her experience.
Wroger Wroger Who asked you to comment here?
Wroger Wroger Why are you crying? Do you like to do that often?
I really love this. Especially the part about your “fantasy” self. It’s so true that we tend to think we need a bunch of items for entertaining, partying, etc. when in real life some of us are just casually having a low key night. I’ll be moving soon so this video is EXACTLY what I needed. 👌🏻
I'm trying to save money and simultaneously stop acquiring clutter and things that I don't need. The 'fantasy self' part really got me. I'm guilty of that.
I think we all are guilty of that to an extent. It really hit home when she said that in the video.
I love your hair. It’s very flattering on you!
@Christina Reynolds
🤣
I have a feeling that different people have different ideas about what is 'minimalist'
Exactly. And everyone should just do their version of minimalist. Follow your own rules.
Yes, exactly why people shouldn't judge other's minimalism.
Bikini
No one has the same ideas about anything. That’s impossible
Andemnon you are the only one that decides whether or not to be a minimalist. if you feel like calling yourself something, you can. this is america.
Why is everyone commenting on the tattoos? That's body art. And you can take it everywhere and it takes up no space. I'd say that's minimalist. Plus it doesn't even count.
She paid for it? Was it neccessary? No. Not very minimalistic of her
@@miracles4176 she's been minimalist for 5 years, is 5 years her whole life? No, probably she got them before she went minimalist (for your reference this is my first video of her so i don't know if she mentioned it before).
I don’t see why people care. Most minimalists are not *completely* minimalist because they also have interests and hobbies. She’s minimalist 99% of the time, why can’t she enjoy herself and have a tattoo? Besides - they don’t take up space, they don’t require upkeep or anything like that.
Jessica M. you’re either a troll or an idiot. do you really think that having a short haircut, or art on your body, makes you a bad person? why is it not okay to live like that? who the fuck makes the rules? i don’t like tattoos either, because i find them sort of ugly. but who cares if someone else has a tattoo? they’re not forcing you to get one. sounds like you’re just an awful judgmental hag and i truly feel sorry for your daughters, that they have to be raised by you.
even though i like having long hair and i’m growing it out, snowflakes like her make me want to cut my hair short just to offend conservatives.
Lol absolutely. 😂😂
Exactly
I bought a set of 4 towels and cut them up in pieces of 3inch by 3 inch.
I put them into a bucket of water. This is my toilet paper. The used towel tp I put in another bucket and I wash those each time my clean bucket is almost empty.
It's been 6 years since I bought my last paper toiletpaper.
Gonzo the great so you just have a bucket of towels with shit on them until they’re all used up?
Love the video but I disagree on the bulk items. Sure it’s not “minimalists” but for dish soap/toilet paper/body soap/paper towels/over the counter medicine I absolutely know buying in bulk saves money. Like I bought a years worth of allergy medicine I take everyday from Costco for $30 instead of a months supply which is $15. Saved a lot of money that way.
I don't think she has a lot of life experience. Good ideas, though.
Exactly!!!
Yes ! My computations scream at me every single time.
She didn't say she was a thrifty spender. Minimalism is a reduction in acquiring things, and that is what she is trying to do, acquire less things. So bulk things are multiples to save money, but you end up with more things. If your main target is to save money, yes you should buy in bulk.
C W
Yes good points.
Also who wants to run out of bog roll.
Thanks Jannell!
Oprah taught me, “if you don’t absolutely love the item, don’t buy it” And that has been my secret to living as minimalistic as possible :)
"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." -William Morris.
I think the most important take away from being a minimalist, at least from this video, is saving money.
Then you have to have the confidence to implement it in your life and be completely misunderstood by family who you love but they 'just don't get you.'
SIGH. Anyway. Do your thing, girl. New subscriber here.
inevitablewanderer girl. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏🏾
This is so relatable. I am learning to be a minimalist too, I got into debt and realized that I didn't need more than half of the things I spent money on
inevitablewanderer I love this response. Ditto!
Completely agree! New sub here, too! Thank you!
“I no longer buy things for my fantasy self”. that's so deep.
good
very good
Then buys yet another tat........
JimsEquipmentShed but she is spending less it seems on things that would just create more waste for the planet. Having tattoos doesn't really affect the planet, I believe.
Tar Mach not buying junk doesn’t affect the planet either. I don’t buy junk, or waste money on tats.
Quality not quantity. I just got rid of a whole ton of stuff today and now I have only what I use daily and weekly. Life is already better.
Nails are a pain in the ass! They look awesome but constantly require upkeep. I used to spend $70 a month on my nails...
Have you thought about putting that $$ in your IRA account?
That's a whole phone bill or cable.... Things really do add up I can let my nails go just not my feet lol.
Nails are so expensive. That's why I'm thinking of using nail stickers. Cheap and easy.
I spend $35 a month on nails
I wear all black, I don't worry about fashion and I can thrift cooler pieces while maintaining a smaller wardrobe. I own weddings rings, 1 pair of diamond studs, and 1 watch. I always look put together and am complimented. I use a bar of soap for face and body, boom done! I use rosehip oil for moisturizing. My home decor is candles, plants and some crystals, in moderation. I removed figurines/chochtkies. I took down all my pics and made albums for my son. I don't collect souvenirs either, I take a lot of pics to enjoy.
I love it🖤
.......black is so good........💜

This hardly seems like minimalism..... This just sounds like spending wisely and efficiently.... Your spending habits are similar to mine and by no means do I consider myself a minimalist
Sahlia Wong-Composer literally same!! I have the same spending habits but I've never called myself a minimalist, seems too pretentious for "I spend my money right"
I definitely agree. Thought some of these things would be extreme. I already do this all.
Minimalism doesn’t have to be extreme.
Nancy Murbach but I think that is the same thing. You are just choosing to purchase things that cost more. Nothing wrong with that.
I definitely appreciate this. Capitalism has kind of trained us that we need/want all this cool stuff. But at the same time, if it’s something that makes you happy and you know you will use it to it’s fullest extent, then go ahead and buy it.
Why do all minimalist houses look the same? Same shades of white black or grey with green plants...
Laila P I was thinking the same but I think it’s best for them to use more cool or neutral colors. I don’t know lol
earth toney
Because it’s “trendy”
Cool colors are calming & never get old :)
This is the look/vibe of how the Swedish and the Danish people live. Soft, natural and comfortable.
Minimalism is cool and all, but it sure produces a homogenous aesthetic. All these minimalist youtubers could be living in the same house!
I think it’s really just the people who make videos on UA-cam lol. My decor is very colorful
EnvisionWithJustin it is very challenging
Your profile photo looks like her 😁💕
What about underwear?
She has multiple pillows though. Hmm
I literally buy 2 of everything! That’s gonna be hard lol
I agree Stacy!
Agreed !
I have one cup for coffee, tea and water.
I choose not to drink those at the same time.
I don't think it's actually minimalist. It's more like common sense and being conservative with money and resources.
I... am... INSPIRED AF
I literally listen to this every night because your voice makes me sleep. You can cure insomnia.
Uhh, a „fantasy self“ video would be great! 🙂
It will come!
I'm minimalist because i just do not care about a lot of things. Sometimes i wanna buy a few things and then, when i have the money for those items, i always decide to keep my money for something else.
Ana Morel and for your post I’m gonna return half the stuff I just bought 👏👏
I do almost all of the things in this video and would never consider myself a minimilist... A lot of this stuff seems like common sense to be honest.
It should be, when she mentioned getting her nails done i laughed like being broke forced my sorry ass to be a 'minimalist"
Chris M Isaura M
It seems like common sense, now days, has gone out the window. That’s why they want socialism. They think that means more for them without having to earn it. Socialism actually means the government owns everything and decides who gets what. Yes, common sense seems to be a thing of the past.
Same here, according to that I've been a minimalist forever and I don't buy all those wall things or candles:)

V DeWitt people find comfort in fitting in a category.
Lol I was wondering if this is a Millennial name. My husband and I have been doing this for years. That's why we could afford a Harely Davison 😍
Good thought
Of course you "can" but it is helpful to label things because it gives you information about the content.
Alexandra Ogilvie she said in this video that she doesn't want to spend money on Apple watches/fitbits. 😅
Aviogne and she said that she recommended it so?
@@bveuxx I'm assuming she doesn't want one because she has been recommended it before and/or isnt interested
LOL
Live within your means and you'll be fine.
Financially that works... still, clutter is often a real problem.. between both rich and poor.
Even if you're not a minimalist, I think loads of us can learn from this list of things you choose not to buy. This is really eye-opening. Thank you!
Minimalism has always been an art movement to me. There needs to be a better term for "living with and buying less shit".
Minimalist living vs minimalism esthicic... ?
Or maybe ethical minimalism?
I totes agree!!
It used to be called "voluntary simplicity." I like that term better.
@@russellfishes -There ya go. Perfect.
Getting rid of extra Shelving helped because I no longer had the space to fill with stuff which was most likely to occur in time
Hannah Scott at 18 I’m trying to do the same thing, but I haven’t been as successful as you sound like you’ve been. Congrats lol!!!
When I have an opportunity to build my house I'm going to have a library with bookshelves built into the walls, it might also be my computer rm.
I’ve done dollar shave for the past 4 years! So simple
I get all mens accessories. I learned this early. Made fun of in high school for wearing boys shirts and shorts, but they were like 5 bucks at the thrift store.
Its the pink tax right? :))) Man so many stupid women around..
Amazon is a lifesaver for these types of things.

I love the idea behind thrifting but when I do it I tend to over buy and not wear most of what I get. I hope that changes though!
What types of things do you upcycle your fabric scraps to?
I hate thrift stores. The prices they have you can easily find at a regular store. Plus use the coupons they offer to get an even discount. New clothes for a cheap price! And if you want name brands, go to an outlet!

Because I've experienced unemployment before I still buy a bit extra on daily products so that if need be we can stay clean. I also live where snow tell you if you can leave your house or not so buying bulk makes more sense. Thank you for some new tips.

What is it you have a degree in if I may ask? A degree alone opens doors to many opportunities even if it's not in the field you initially studied in.
GodricThe also if everyone lived like this, America would collapse
GodricThe you know you can hang your clothes to dry right hahahaha.
Jennifer Webb I am not economy expert, what I do know is debt free life
Katrina Doerr this is how you get black mold
Nothing says a minimalist can't have a dryer. It depends on what you find important and how far you want to go. I'm someone that has too much stuff. So even striving to be a minimalist is making a huge impact on my life. I buy so much less now. I haven't achieved anything like real minimalism but the idea is not to be a thoughtless consumer.
Wow I had no idea you could use coconut oil to shave. You just saved my life there. Thank you!
can you? Have you tried it?
I know my sister uses it, so you definitely can. I also use olive oil sometimes. I find that using oil for shaving also makes you skin feel extra smooth and soft.
You can also use whatever conditioner you use for your hair to shave as well!
Tezziscool I'd do olive oil, but would probably end up smelling like a lined cookie sheet lol
N T I would do that, but hair care products are expensive for me since I have long hair and use more than "usual"

G-sting Pie I read it, you are awesome, I’m glad you’re inspired by less and I hope it serves you well 💚
I don't really understand why you don't buy in bulk.
Jon Port ball ache haha 😂
Agreed!
Michelle Irudis Haha it's the most expressive phrase I can offer from my vocabulary unfortunately
It’s annoying cause for most people “minimalism” is not a choice or a label it’s the result of not having much money
*gasp
Why bamboo toothbrushes? what advantages do they have over cheaper standard ones?
I’d love to see a closet haul. Anyone else? 💕
She did a "Closet Tour" video a year ago.
I could live in work out clothes haha, as long as you're using them don't fell bad!
First video I have watched of yours. You are a very smart lady. I’m so much older and just starting my journey to minimalism. I do buy bulk - when are you not going to need toilet paper - yeah, I not going that far😎❤️💝💐🙋🏻
I buy a max for four mega rolls at a time and that last a good while for me haha!
Actually there is this thing called bidet that can save u from ever buying toilet paper again ;)
Keep it up :)
thank you! I try to be real when I film
wow the pressed flower art is so gorgeous !!! love it
I cut cable no bill at the end of the month. Saving $1500 a year no TV.
No A/C either.
I wish I could do the no AC thing but not in Texas summers haha
@@JanellKristina yes, Texas must be really tough in summer. We are having a heat wave at the moment in Boston but I know it will cool down on Friday. Love your video
I wish I could go no AC... It's too hot and humid here in KC I would feel like something the cat dragged in -lifeless and damp!
thumbs up for no cable.. cutting mine soon after I watch some stuff I taped.. they keep increasing the price for me to watch just 6 channels.. Gotta have A/C in Florida too much humidity and heat and the houses are air tight. when we lost power in past hurricanes it was torture..
@@iseektoknow I happy with you tube videos. I don't even miss Comcast
