I used to do this thing where if I tried on a shirt and liked it I would buy ALL THE AVAILABLE COLORS even though I really only liked the one color and then I would take them home and NEVER WEAR THE OTHER COLORS 🤦🏼♀️. So now I just buy the color that appealed to me originally.

I love this video! So many other youtubers I see are always way too excited/energetic for my liking but your channel just calms me down!
This is the best, considering that I reduced my clothing line. Only 10 outfits, about to pass on two shirts away. Laundry is reduced, and time is enjoyed. Only wear my favorites that are calm and fitting. Love your youtube videos!
can you make a list of necessities a minimalist should have? just the basic minimum for a comfortable life i’m always confused on what I should keep or not keep.
I really like Busbee Style. She provides a checklist for basics. I have found that it's easier to get ready now that I have added more basics to my wardrobe. I also try different combinations more than I did before and it helps me mix and match my clothes. Thanks for posting this video. I really like the message you put out. I also think the advice you give is really useful. Thanks again.
I quite downsized my wardrobe in the recent months and I got rid of most of my clothes I didn't really like, but I have encountered a trouble I didn't expect - now that all of my clothes are my "nice clothes" I always think things like "ahh, I don't want to wear this shirt today, because I want to spare it for better occasion" but there are not really that much of "better occasions", I just go to uni or casually meet friends over weekend and I don't know, I think I have this kind of mentality from when I have "nice clothes" and "home clothes" and I just can't get over it and, I don't know, I guess I'm writing it in hopes someone had similar experience with this kind of thinking and can somehow help me out here? And wow, this comment got long, sorry for writing my autobiography here xD
I did that, and didn't have any t-shirts left, so I let myself buy one at the thrift shop and made that my consistent 'at home' shirt. P.s. it was vintage marvel and a great find~
I've definitely got "home" clothes and "nice" clothes. I work in an office, so I dress up. But as soon as I get home it's shorts and a t-shirt. I once made the mistake of getting rid of all my old ratty clothes, then realized I didn't have anything to do yardwork in, or to go camping or hiking. I'm still figuring out how to downsize while accommodating all the types of activities I do in my life. It's pretty tough, because I rationalize that I need all these options for each category. I thought Janell's point about your wardrobe reflecting what you do, percentage-wise, to be helpful. I only go to office parties maybe a 4 times per year. So I only need 2 party outfits, a dress and a shimmery velvet skirt that also works for x-mas. I travel about 5 weeks out of the year, mostly outdoor activities, so I have a bit more travel clothing.
I really like that your videos are short and to the point. I was called a minimalist once and don't quite agree that I am. I dislike clutter and am organized so maybe that's why he said that. Every couple months I go through my closet and get rid of things. I really need to simply do a purge and be done with it. It is just "stuff" and having more than what's needed is excess. Thanks for doing these videos; they help me focus.
I have owned nothing white in many years. I love that advice. Also know that feeling of being seen as more put-together when you have fewer items. I lost my clothing in a natural disaster, and then had a big weight change, so I cycled through my entire wardrobe twice in a few years and I really learned to minimize!
Hi Janell! I’ve viewed quite a few of your videos in the past couple weeks. I find minimalism inspiring, and you make it look so easy! I know I could never go full minimalist because my mind holds a sentimental value to WAY too many nonsensical items, but I definitely look at certain things in my room in a different light after watching your videos. Also, I just want you to know that I switched my closet from summer to winter clothes today, and I got rid of three very large and very stuffed bags of clothes! Baby steps, lol.
Such a helpful video, I’ll be going through my closet throughout the next week changing things up and keeping only what I truly wear and like. And giving myself a month period for unsure items, if I don’t wear it within that timeframe or sooner it’s going bye-bye. Thanks again!
To me, minimalism is about having the courage to look honestly at your stuff and admit that you (or someone else) didn't choose wisely. But it's always possible to make a better choice.
I’ve always had a massive wardrobe- by massive I mean I used to completely pack three different closets and a dresser. And unlike most people, I actually did wear all of it. But when I had to move 3 times in one year, I realized how much of a pain it was to haul it everywhere. Why did I need THAT much clothing? Your points were exactly mine. I had too many statements that only matched one specific combination. Multiple ‘gaps’ in my wardrobe. And lots of colors and styles I didn’t like nearly as much as the rest. I still have a fairly big wardrobe, I’m sure, but it’s small enough now that I converted half of my closet into my makeup vanity, and the other half is all my clothes AND my fiancé’s clothes, combined. I should add, it’s not a walk in closet, either. Your videos have helped me so much. It’s about quality, not quantity
Loved the bit about clothes not representing who I am. I guess it's the fashion blogs, magazines, social media etc that saturated the idea that clothes make statements and represent our identity. Your words struck deep. Also tying this with the fantasy self is brilliant - I can see where I'm making mistakes. Your videos always bring deep insights - thank you and much love 🌿
Project 333 has been really helpful for me. I don't usually end up sticking to it to the letter, but it has been really helpful in changing my mindset regarding clothes. Now I make sure to acquire and keep pieces that fit with my life and with each other. It also helps me ensure I have a good balance (tops, bottoms, overpieces, etc) One place I disagree with most minimalist is duplicates. I wear basic tank tops a lot (either as a standalone top or under something else) so I like having at least three or four, but they only count as one item in my 33.
I love to shop at thrift stores and ended up with toooooo many clothes. I had 14 jeans jackets! I had 18 pairs of boots! I pared it down to 3/2 - very hard.
Yes, I do just look at my wardrobe and have nothing to wear....and my wardrobe just grows as my older sister and family just chuck clothes at me. This was very useful
exactly! i just got a giant box of hand me downs recently. i was so annoyed because i wasnt infomed i was getting sent stuff otherwise i would have told them to keep it. However, it was a good thing it was already in a box. It got donated as soon as i got it.
These were all really great tips! I don't have to wear a uniform to work and there's also not much of a dress code but I have been considering making my own work uniform just to stop the constant shopping all because I think I've worn an outfit too many times
I'm currently experimenting minimalism in helping my recovery from depression & anxiety. At least having limited wardrobe choices allows my mind to make very firm & quick decisions. That takes alot of decisions off my mind.
Great video, simple, no effects and super editing and all that, just the information that its useful.... the colored sheets and towels are going to get dirty at the same speed, you just not going to see it, but I know what you're saying, my favorite color for towels and bed is white, and while the fabric hasn't thin or doesn't have rips or holes, it's never the same white again, I don't really like colors so I wonder if I should switch to grey or black?
I turned my fantasy self into my real self. I hated all my clothes and felt boring and basic. I finally decided to dress how I’ve always fantasized and went on a shopping spree (buying only clothes that spoke to me or I loved) while getting rid of most of my old clothes. Now I have trouble deciding what to wear because I love everything too much.
Love this - statement pieces are my downfall, I will check out the fantasy self video. I've managed to simplify my 3 children's wardrobe and it feels/works great, I'm going to try and apply your tips thank you for sharing 🧡
I'm experimenting with a minimal wardrobe. Which means I'm cutting my wardrobe down as much as possible, and moving the majority of my clothes from my living space (put in basement)- I'm going to try to be "extreme minimalist" for a while and see if I need more I can bring some out of storage. Its not down to "extreme" yet, but I'm definitely working on not being overflowing.
I like the bell sound and I think it's a good idea to try and divide this kind of list into clearer sections. I think it would help if you numbered or titled different parts of the video and maybe added some text on the screen in the beginning of each section. Like "Next number 3. Things to get rid of *ding*" and then continue to talk about it. But I love your videos either way and you seem like an awesome person! :)
Luv it...."it's just a shirt" that's so right and simple when you said it! Too many choices about what to where gives me a headache so I did get rid of most of my clothes. And I LUV SCRUBS i rock the pants almost everyday to work and I'm not even in the medical field LOL! Those things are comfy all seasons and wash super good ❤️! Thanks for another great video!👍🏽
The dinging made me think you were having words on the screen. I always try to shop for basic pieces but it's hard to find them. What stores do you usually shop at ?
Not sure if you ever covered this but I'm curious about where you prefer to shop for your clothes. Do you choose to spend more on quality? Or are you always looking for a cheaper alternatives? When you do purchase something, what are your "go-to" stores? Again, just curious but great tips on decluttering. 😁
I've been getting jeans and shorts from American Eagle since high school since they have long options but I want to find somewhere else, I've gotten a couple things from Madewell and Dillards, but honestly, I can't really recommend a store I'm completely in love with. I'm still on the hunt
Thanks for this video. It took me a while to just accept that I only ever want to wear collared shirts, tights and boots to work 😂 simple and comfy. I tried to make my 'fantasy self' my everyday look but I just wasn't comfortable. Now I have the same three our four outfits on rotation during the week and I don't even care if I wear the same outfit twice in a week. It only matters to people who care about what others think and seriously, it does not matter what anybody else thinks.
For me selecting my outfit the evening before, is so much easier. The morning is so much less stressful. And in the evening I’m way less likely to overthink.
Been there somewhat. Slowly but surely reducing to my most worn and favorites. Too many jackets/coats when really this big ass one that I got from working at Under Armour is all I need haha. RT on basics and wardrobe reflecting what you do. Ties into the fantasy self video...very slick...I see you hahaha.
The gift thing is a big thing for me. Ppl get me things they think I should ware because “I have a nice figure”. I keep it as a courtesy but it’s not my style and I don’t feel comfortable in it but if they ever ask I’m like OH YEAH I STILL HAVE IT I LOVE . So I don’t seem ungrateful
I like to wear a “uniform.” Everything in my wardrobe is black or grey and goes together. I only buy ethically made higher end pieces so I only get a couple things per year. Noctex embodies my perfect minimalist wardrobe and I get most of my new pieces from them.
Clothes is my biggest issue, I posted a bunch of the clothes I haven’t worn on poshmark and donated stuff I didn’t think would be sold. Loved this video! Xx
Kristina was poshmark a pain? I have so many fantasy me shoes, and tops! Lmao I was never that girl in the club, I was more the girl in sweats on a Saturday morning. Lmao!
surfnyolly hahaha I feel you! Poshmark is ok, I’ve sold a handful of items! I don’t really keep up with it by networking with girls and sharing my items though, so I’m sure if I put more effort, I would sell quicker. I’m not going to be upset if all my clothes don’t sell though, because Im sure I can find someone that would take them off my hands free of charge. I have made enough to fill my gas tank a few times though which makes me feel better about spending money on my fantasy me hahah
Kristina ha!!! Thanks for replying. I have a few Lulu shirts that are way too small so I’m going to try Poshmark. I really hope it works. Have a great day and enjoy the fantasy me clothes. We all love the Fall, our real fantasy fashions come true! Layers, sweaters, boots! What?! Lmao I’m done!
Great video and very helpful! I am trying to declutter my closet and cut down on the amount of clothes I have and this was a huge help. Really enjoy your videos! Also, I love your top and tops you wear, where do you shop the most?
I still struggle with this. I've been getting jeans and shorts from American Eagle since high school since they have long options, I've gotten a couple things from Madewell (the shirt I'm wearing) and Dillards, but honestly, I can't really recommend a store I'm completely in love with
I need to downsize. I honestly probably have over 50 shirts and never wear more than maybe 10 on a regular basis. Just looking at them all is daunting but this is very helpful for a place to start!.
Love this video a lot, Janell. This seems counterproductive in terms of this video, but in attempt to make my closest compiled more of basics, where did you get the shirt that you're wearing in the video?
I’ve tried three times in the last month and a half to downsize my wardrobe and I’m still not satisfied. I KNOW I’m still hanging on to a lot of items that don’t get worn and are more for fantasy me. This video is really useful on how to categorize what should stay, thanks!
No problem! Maybe try this: have a bin where you put all the maybe items in. If you need an item and wear an item from it put it back with your closet, after six months donate what you didn't reach for
Lovely video this is kind of off topic but what are your thoughts on minimalism for transport like a small ev or even cycling, Amsterdam has an amazing cycle culture and pristine well designed cycle lanes no need for large vehicles in the cities.....good for exercise the environment and your pocket ..they probably still own vehicles but use them sparingly for long distance heavy travel.......
What do you do with the clothes that you get rid of? I’ve tried selling my better or more expensive stuff On Poshmark but it’s a hassle and waiting game to get those things gone. I donate cheaper clothes or stuff I really don’t care much about. But mainly I’m asking for a bit of direction or better options of things to do with the stuff. I prefer not giving to Goodwill type thrifts stores but I’ll give clothes to a women’s or youth shelter too.
I go to gym a lot a lot so I have 9 outfits that are gym related but when it hot and cold and then 2nd most things I do is shopping, 3rd is bingo, 4th is pub or club or arcades, 5th is the beach a lot in summer, 6th is people houses. I’ve stop buying dresses and only dress I do want to buy is backless one that for the club only, jeans and skirt for pub & club. Crop tops for everywhere expect bingo, leggings for almost anywhere expect pub and club. Shorts I have 2 types baggies ones for pjs and tighter ones for gym and summer, jumper either above or below the booty and if it in between then I turn it into crop jumper instead or for long sleeve item when home all day and feel cold. Match underwear for selfies and mix underwear for period days. Only own 3 types of shoes. I did try to cut my clothing down to 100 items but failed so trying for 300 items again but this including any kind of bags and shoes and bedding and towels.
Im a minimalist as well and I was wondering, have you had the same struggle as I have finding staple clothing that actually lasts? I finally found good long lasting pieces after a month of searching but up until that point the only staple clothing (ie. Plain colored t's that weren't either super see-through or too casual looking) I could find was super thin, not lasting stuff. Luckily I've found good stuff for decent prices finally.

Also in general I just wanna say how much I love your channel, your voice is very nice and soothing and I always feel like you're talking to me (or the audience) as a friend! So many other youtubers I see are always way too excited/energetic for my liking but your channel just calms me down!
DasDudu thanks for the love friend 🙏🏽
This is the best, considering that I reduced my clothing line. Only 10 outfits, about to pass on two shirts away. Laundry is reduced, and time is enjoyed. Only wear my favorites that are calm and fitting. Love your youtube videos!
thank you!
@@JanellKristina looking forward to your present and future vlogs! :)
I like the idea of wearing the same outfit day after day... It seems so liberating!
And I looove this video! And you!
That video covers a lot of points and is very helpful. I also get this itchy feeling when there is too much stuff around me that I don't use.
can you make a list of necessities a minimalist should have?
just the basic minimum for a comfortable life
i’m always confused on what I should keep or not keep.
Czy Tryna omg i do that too!!
the struggle is real xD
@@candicewaller403 good point
Thank you for your videos I'm starting my minimalist journey and I feel overwhelmed at times.
Such a helpful video, I’ll be going through my closet throughout the next week changing things up and keeping only what I truly wear and like. And giving myself a month period for unsure items, if I don’t wear it within that timeframe or sooner it’s going bye-bye. Thanks again!
Ok ima fan of these ding noises. It helped my ADHD brain stay on track and listen to what you’re about to say!
We are so much more than our skin and what covers it
Project 333 has been really helpful for me.
Great vids Janell. Keep up the good work! Love all your bells and whistles! Cheers from Australia x
I love to shop at thrift stores and ended up with toooooo many clothes. I had 14 jeans jackets! I had 18 pairs of boots! I pared it down to 3/2 - very hard.
Mahalo for the practical advice! Lately, whenever I feel like doing retail therapy I watch one of your videos.
Yes, I do just look at my wardrobe and have nothing to wear....and my wardrobe just grows as my older sister and family just chuck clothes at me. This was very useful
Hand me downs can be overwhelming for sure :(
exactly! i just got a giant box of hand me downs recently. i was so annoyed because i wasnt infomed i was getting sent stuff otherwise i would have told them to keep it. However, it was a good thing it was already in a box. It got donated as soon as i got it.
What bra brand did you get that works with those tops?
I was wondering the same thing
Your channel is the best ! Much love from Greece !!
Thank you!
I turned my fantasy self into my real self. I hated all my clothes and felt boring and basic. I finally decided to dress how I’ve always fantasized and went on a shopping spree (buying only clothes that spoke to me or I loved) while getting rid of most of my old clothes. Now I have trouble deciding what to wear because I love everything too much.
love the content & you! don’t love the bells though😭
Love your videos !! Agree with the bells, slightly distracting !
Perfect speed. Loved it x
I love this video! Just declutter my Wardrobe but definitely keeping this video in mind
love you janell , your content, lifestle inspire me a lot and also i am very happy to graduate because you are uploading more, than before :)))
Since I switched to day shift I actually have lighting to film too!
The dinging made me think you were having words on the screen. I always try to shop for basic pieces but it's hard to find them. What stores do you usually shop at ?
Just finding your channel. Your awesome and very inspirational!
I love your style! Do you know where I could order or shop for pieces of clothing similar to your style?
Good advice on this subject but the bell dinging kind of drove me crazy. Look forward to your next video
This is honestly exactly what I needed!
What?! Lmao I’m done!
surfnyolly awesome! Lemme know when you do, I’ll follow you and share your listings, I have a decent following lol
Kristina is so appreciate that! And pls know I’m recommendation worthy too. Have a great Friday!
Love you!! You seem so happy girl!
project 333 really helped me with this struggle! :D
Great video and very helpful! I am trying to declutter my closet and cut down on the amount of clothes I have and this was a huge help. Really enjoy your videos! Also, I love your top and tops you wear, where do you shop the most?
I still struggle with this. I've been getting jeans and shorts from American Eagle since high school since they have long options, I've gotten a couple things from Madewell (the shirt I'm wearing) and Dillards, but honestly, I can't really recommend a store I'm completely in love with
I don't think I've heard of Madewell but I will for sure check it out! Thank you!!
where is your clothes from though?:0 been looking for shirts with that kind of cut!
lots of love!
I. Jones Madewell!
I own a car because there isn;t public transit where I live and I would love to have the option not to own one
Where do you buy your bras? I also like that kind of shirts
What is the name for that style of shirt? I love them too but don't know what to type in to look them up!
Great video. There are so many tips in this video 👍thank you so much 😊
Where did you get your shirt? Love it, and what kind of bra do you wear with? Thanks!!
Love your videos girl ❤️
What do you do with the clothes that you get rid of? I’ve tried selling my better or more expensive stuff On Poshmark but it’s a hassle and waiting game to get those things gone. I donate cheaper clothes or stuff I really don’t care much about. But mainly I’m asking for a bit of direction or better options of things to do with the stuff. I prefer not giving to Goodwill type thrifts stores but I’ll give clothes to a women’s or youth shelter too.
If you have a local consignment shop you might be able to sell your nicer pieces there.
Must watch for everyone.
My cat left the room after the 30th bell ring.
She's starting to think that it must be a new type of dinner gong
Im a minimalist as well and I was wondering, have you had the same struggle as I have finding staple clothing that actually lasts? I finally found good long lasting pieces after a month of searching but up until that point the only staple clothing (ie. Plain colored t's that weren't either super see-through or too casual looking) I could find was super thin, not lasting stuff. Luckily I've found good stuff for decent prices finally.
I still struggle with this and actually taking recommendations thb
next video, closet tour, porfavor! ^_^
your channel is so educating thank you 💗
Thank you so very much for this video!
Really nice tips! Love your glasses by the way - where are they from? :-)
Sofie warby Parker! I highly recommend them!
Thanks for this vid. It's very helful and inspiring.♡
Btw, i can't find the link for the fb group you mentioned? 🤔
I also realized that white clothing doesn't fit my lifestyle, since I always get makeup on it 😊. Great vid!
