    Great video. Your one of the few who actually took the time to research the correct 5/8” level. My owners manual says 5/8 to 1-5/8 which is kind of a big range. I did mine to 5/8. I almost just filled it to the top. Thanks for putting this out there!

      Thanks Charles! Yeah, I was surprised at the variable level too, and it doesn’t help that in some other rear ends GM does have you fill to the top… at this point in life I’ve just leaned to follow directions haha

      Yeah, I’ve always had really good luck using Mobil 1 products and since it came recommended, I figured why not!
      Good luck working on your Suburban, should be the exact same steps as my 2003 :)

    Good video Garrett. The closest I have come to changing differential oil was on my three day old 79 C 3. At three days old they had to overhaul the differential. I had that car for one year and they had to overhaul the differential a total of three times. The person I sold it to had to have it overhauled yet again. Good thing the warrantee was still good. The info I was able to find out on the subject was 79 was the first year that they didn't use whale oil and went to synthetic oil and the differential wasn't quite ready for the change. I went 280ZX but switched back to the C 4.
    I might have an idea for a future video that you might like.
    Take care Garrett,
    Brian

      Hey Brian, that’s crazy, I definitely would not have been happy having that happen on a new car! I guess I got lucky with my C7s, I heard quite a few people on the forums & Facebook had issues with theirs even with a fully stock engine, guess there’s always a few bad apples in the bunch?

    Everyone is saying 13mm socket for the cover bolts 13mm is sloppy, 12mm is to small 1/2in is just right, 1/2in worked on original bolts and the new ones out of the bag, maybe mine were not larger because of corrosion though.

    • @1Brain4Wheels
      @1Brain4Wheels  9 місяців тому

      That's a good point, metric is odd for American cars so you're probably right about the corrosion... best practice is use what fits 😉

    One quick tip don't use a metal scraper rather a plastic one, everything else was actually pretty good video

      @1Brain4Wheels  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks man! And yeah, that’s a good tip, I tried to be as careful as I could with the metal scraper I had but plastic for sure would have been the way to go, I would have kicked myself if I gouged it and caused a leak!

    Hi which rear end do you have? Does it happen to be a G80? im just worried about the limited slip additive with the locking differential.

    • @1Brain4Wheels
      @1Brain4Wheels  Рік тому +1

      Hey Justin, I have the G80 “gov locker” on mine and it’s still going strong! I was concerned about the LS additive as well before I started the project, but after reading from people on various forums from years past, it seems to work out for most 👍🏻

    You know you could have just used the drain plug? :)

    • @1Brain4Wheels
      @1Brain4Wheels  3 роки тому

      Haha, trust me, I would have if this rear end had one! For some reason (some GM engineer’s brilliant thinking) they didn’t make a drain plug for the differential I have… but at least they included a fill plug 😉

    Do not give a 17 year old a 2003 chevy suburban LT 1500 or he will break it in months if not days
