Frank is the proof that you don’t need to drop an album every 9 months to keep a fanbase, he hasn’t dropped one since 2016
Quality over quantity.
Who tf even wants an album per 9 months. I feel it’s more like every year actually especially in the mainstream and a lot of new artist.

the pitch change on Nikes is meant to show Frank's state of mind at a younger age. When the pitch returns to Frank's normal voice, is symbolises his mindset in the present day. What Frank did with this album hoes beyond the art. He did something nobody had done in the music industry, that I know of at least.
This guy managed to take years to make an album with Universal's money. Then turns into a video album called Endless. The next day his contract ended and he didn't resign. He then took the album Blond and release it as an iTunes exclusive and makes Apple pay him for it, obviously.
He screwed Universal over so bad but he technically gave them a last album. He convinced them it was. They weren't expecting him to release another album a few days later. He got Universal and Apple essentially pay for the same album. Genius.

I remember the day this album first came out. I was a junior in high school. I just got my first car. A 2005 Ford Mustang convertible was my first car. I had the windows open, it was cold outside, I was blaring the album from the beginning. Pink + White turned on while I was on Hayden road, I was bopping my head to the music and some guy pulled up in the lane next to me smiling and asked “is that the new Frank album?”. Such a perfect moment. We were both jamming in traffic to Pink + White for a short 30 secs.
This album absolutely obliterates me. It reminds me of my first love; everything was perfect during those days. Convertibles, cool weather, mental and physical health good, go to work and then hangout with the girl I loved and drive home bumping this album at 2 am with the top down, repeat. It’s cool that you point out that Frank could have gone down a conventional route. Frank was a ghost writer for people like Bieber and Beyoncé once. He has a good grip on the pop sphere and one of the coolest things about him to me is his ability to take very conventional pop music and twist it into something new and avant-garde.

Such a beautifully, sad, nostalgic album for me. My life changed so drastically in 2016 when this came out. I was 18 and had moved out of the state I had been living in all my life, and experienced such a blissful new college experience while this came out. I was growing, hurting, and loving others very hard and this album holds a ton of meaning to me
It's crazy how this album came out in 2016, I listened to it non-stop for probably a year till I got a bit tired of it. He dropped singles after that and I loved those as well, but overall I didn't listen to frank as often as i did when i was younger. I recently secured a blonde vinyl copy that dropped on his site and decided to revisit the album + endless. I am now once again on a frank binge as I realize this person made something so timeless and conceptual, that even this dad recognized influences/samples. Someone who has never heard his stuff before. Frank ocean really dropped one of the greatest albums ever made. It's so impactful and beautifully crafted in a way that it could really strike the listeners ears in the most profound and emotional way. Thank you so much frank for what you blessed us with. I'm very grateful that you are a part of music and art.
One of, if not the most important album ever to me. I was in a difficult place mentally when it came out and happened to go on a 5 day exercise canoeing down a river in the remote Swedish wilderness devoid of any other people. Blonde is the only albums I can vividly remember listening to for the first time. Every time I listen to it, it transforms me and I'm back on that midnight bus driving home from NYC. Night surrounded me as Frank's voice filled the space around me. it felt like all that existed at the moment was him and this album.
He gives euphoria. The way he makes people feel so intrigued and understood at the same time. He makes people FEEL. But also, listen. No artist has made me feel the way he does. He music sounds as if you layed down and let your thoughts go. There is also this familiarity like something you knew in another universe. I'm kinda going through my first real heartbreak right now and yeah, this album is painful to get through now that I can really relate to what Frank is saying, and some of these songs now being deeply associated with the person who broke my heart (Nikes was my least favorite song at first, but it was his favorite song off the album and now it makes me wanna burst into tears immediately). This is a timeless album, and I'm excited to see how it'll affect me years from now.
this is genuinely one of the best things ive ever watched. my first listen to this was back when i didnt have as much musical maturity towards the more experimental side of it and didn't like it much. with time this became an album i am blown away by and would die to listen to this for the first time, seeing your dad go through those emotions made my night.

I know you guys won’t see this, but to comment on “needing several listens” to get into this album, you all touched on why that is several times. The album is unpredictable, and the brain releases endorphins to reward itself for pattern recognition. So basically, no endorphins on the first listen, because the brain is almost penalizing itself for not knowing where anything’s going. After several listens, though, your brain not only releases the endorphins for recognizing the patterns, but it gives an extra boost to you for knowing the patterns of something so abstract. Next thing you know, you have one of the most popular albums of all time. Everyone’s brains patting themselves on the back for feeling like they understand something on a deeper level than the average joe could.
Also, love the channel, guys. It fills the void that’s left by my own father brushing off all the music that I love. I was built by the music he loves, so it would be cool to see him reciprocate it in this way. You guys are great! Thanks for the awesome content! ❤️

"This album is about identity. The album name is blond(e). The feminine spelling of the word is 'Blonde' which reflects the tone of the first half of the album which is light, happily melodic and has imagery of summer. Then, in 'Nights' there is a beat switch which is exactly halfway in the album (at 30minutes in the hour long project). This beat switch signifies the volta in tone to the other (masculine) side - 'Blond' The feel is much more brutal, delves into his character and is harsh in it's realities and ideas. This duality in the album of the both sides mirrors his sexuality, identity and mentality throughout." - copyed from another video but i love this comment

Nikes was the first song he released from the album to give people a taste after a long hiatus, but he wanted to mess with people who have been waiting for something from him so he made them hear a new song and at the same time wait to hear his voice even longer just teasing them.
I’ve seen a lot of comments saying the same thing about age? Must have come from the same podcast?
If you need d*ck I got you?
Pour up for ASAP?
Said she need a ring like Carmelo?
Must be on that white like othello?
Woo fucking buzzin?
Younger? What a year before the album?
I mean if you care to elaborate on how he is younger? Other than a high pitch… I’m open minded to see that but that’s a stretch for me. The subject matter doesn’t scream “younger” to me.
@@peanutbutterswelly5529 i would say the album is about growing in age and growing apart from someone you’ve loved since a “child”. This album feels like the end of a high school fling before u go to college.
@@peanutbutterswelly5529 have you heard the podcast? You should start there honestly. The lyrics in Nikes is not very mature and that's not the only song his voice is pitched up on. The lyrics are based off a time in his life specifically in the Nikes song.
Dad: “That track there would be like just seriously idk why I just get the feeling, a good love making track”
Son: “..yeah” 13:04
He has definitely made love to that song lmao
Only 2 songs in and I love how much your dad appreciates small details. Tearing up at this and wishing I could show my dad music like I did 10 years ago. Amazing stuff. Keep it up forever. 💕
this album has a sad mood but it somehow seems to make me happier than ever. it’s just different than any other music I’ve heard and I wish i could reverse time and hear this album for the first time again.
He need to listen to IGOR!!! It could be probably kind of confusing at first but I’ll believe your dad will avail love that album!
Facts!!!
ESPECIALLY the keys work on that album, like, the solo on I Think?? LUSH
every song in this album sounds like an incomplete song in the most beautiful way possible, idk how to explain it. it just sounds like fractions of the most nostalgic feelings.
damn, beautiful description
I feel like that “incompleteness” actually makes you want more. I think it gives the album more replay value as well.
It sounds like a dream, it just starts and ends in the same confusing mist
@@MarkyNomadoh my yes that’s exactly how it feels
thankyou for this video, made me feel like i was listening to the album for the first time again! such a cool relationship you guys have and i’m so happy you both appreciate the album and the complete talent and soul frank puts into his songs 😁
Fun fact the beat change in nights is when the change in beat happens
Channel Orange might have been a smoother introduction to Frank Ocean with it sounding just as good but a whole lot more conventional, but nevertheless, i think Blonde is bound to grow on ur dad if he does listen to it a few more times (which I'm sure he will)
Fax
i was almost jealous of your dad listening to the album for the first time, but seeing his reaction to it made me feel like i was reliving that experience through him, i really enjoyed this
Loved this so much. Such a cool relationship you have with your dad, it’s beautiful. I really hope you guys end up doing Channel Orange by Frank Ocean…it’s my all time fav album. 🧡
Hey Connor just wanted to let you know seeing you and your pops listening to music and appreciating it just brings me joy I watch y’all everytime you drop a video 😂
I know you said you aren’t a huge Frank Ocean fan, but consider reacting to Channel Orange down the line. Another great R&B album and it will certainly get views and get subscribers excited.
agreed
What I love about Frank Ocean is that his work gets exponentially better every time you listen to it
Exactly. It's like classical music. Your regular pop songs becomes boring and repetitive when you hear it to often. But Frank Ocean is so full of complexitiy and beauty. If you listen, new layers will open up eventually.
loved your dad saying "this sounds like stevie wonder" before the stevie sample
My first time here. Instant respect for Dad and the way he appreciated the verse of Andre, goosebumps. Keep up the videos.
I like to think that on the song “nikes” frank ocean lets the autotune play to let us wait a bit longer to finally hear his voice, and when he does come back it’s just perfect
Exactly! That's why I love that high pitch intro. When he finally arrives, it feels special.
Thats how I've always felt about Nikes. Frank fans had been waiting like 4 years to hear new music, and it felt like a grandiose reveal at the end of Nikes when his voice came in finally. It was super awesome the day it dropped and definitely had me extremely excited to hear the rest of the album.
Agree with you, BUT technically Vocals in the First part are pitch shifted by the formant (no autotune) and you can hear some autotune going on only in the second part
it was for the fans after waiting so long it was like a release
It’s so interesting to see someone listen to an album I’ve played over 100 times, for the first time. Wish I could go back and just feel all of that again. To this day this album just gives me chills and takes me to another place.
i agree
I'm jealous of anyone whose never listened to blonde ,I would trade places to hear it for the first time
This album single handedly stayed with me my whole college journey. I love it with all my heart. My sophomore year I cried to Nikes for a week in my bedroom. His music and artistry is beyond
I love how much Dad appreciates Frank’s artistry.
we need a son reacts episode where kevin picks an album for connor to react to
This album came out around the time my first girlfriend cheated on me. It spoke to me in such a higher level than anything else I've ever listened to. Realizing that I will always love her for the rest of my life... but most importantly, the acceptance that I had to find with everything. From heartbreak to learning how to love myself again, this album saved me in a way, and it made me really feel and appreciate the effect that music has. Self Control is undoubtedly the most important song in the album for me, the rest is just perfect in my eyes as well.
Anyways, thanks for the reaction. Love this channel and cheers!
ayo just wanted to say that I had the exact same experience man. hope you're doing well
She’s wasn’t for you king 👑 you’ll easily find better. Fuck her lmao
I feel you man. Like in the lyrics to white Ferrari “I care for you still and I will, forever. That was my part of the deal…”
Went through a terrible breakup right when this came out too man. It was hard for me to listen to it at all for a while. Now I can look back and be grateful that this album helped me through those rough times. Hope you're doing better now.
A very similar thing happened to me and i had this album on repeat during the time. I really struggle listening to it now because it just brings everything back up. Back to a time where i was relatively undamaged and relatively positive. Such a good album.
small fact: In Franks song Futura Free, at the end when Mikey Alfred asks “How far is a light year?” Well... A light year is the distance light travels in a year, equivalent to ~9.4×1012 km. The song is 9.4 minutes (9:24) long. Frank is a genius
So many details to this album. So many lines that you would need to know the backstory or history on to really understand the content of the songs. Definitely an album to listen to throughout without interruption and dialogue between songs. This is one of those albums where you have to just let it play and take it in for the full experience. Would love an update video on this album to see what your perspective and feeling on this album!
Y’all have to do ATLiens or Aquemini. Preferably Aquemini, i believe it’s the outkasts best album.
YESS THIS
would love to see it!
great recomendation
Those are definitely good choices
ATLiens was better
I know we'll get to it eventually but man, Atrocity Exhibition is going to be a trip when we get there.
that would be amazing
The dad doesn’t need to be shown the horror😭😭😭😭😭
@@trenhen4311 lmao
Gonna have his dad fully convinced he’s on an acid trip 😭😭😭
VERBAL COUTURE
PARKOUR
WITH THE METAPHORS
THE FLOW HOUSE OF HORROR
DEAD BOLTED WITH METAL DOORS👹👹👹
can’t wait for the dad to shit his pants to atrocity exhibition
I have so many summer memories with this album. Not really with friends or anything and they aren’t really good or bad memories. The memories are like vague images, but every time I listen to this album it makes me think of the sun rise and sunsets of summer, or driving at night. Literally listen through this album every summer without even thinking about it.
The similarity in the reactions of your dad reminds me of the first time I listened to the full album. Maybe it's the way it was designed, that make you feel all that kind of emotions in a certain orden and in a certain way that we as humans relate and feel so connected to each other emotions. I'm was just 21 when I listened to it, but still getting the same results. Frank Ocean (and other artists that make music like this) have no minimum nor maximum age of consumption to their music. It's trascendental. Great video by the way, really enjoyed it! Greetings from Argentina!!
There’s so many aspects that make this channel enjoyable. It recreates the feelings of when we all first listened to these albums. Also the father-son relationship you two have is comforting to be a part of. Beautiful channel, I love where it’s headed!
Thank's Mitchel :)
True
This is a very astute analysis of the appeal of this channel
all the cuts blue ballin me. Such a great album
this album has been such a big part of my life for so many years - i was able to relive it all over again and appreciate it thru the eyes of your dad. thank you for sharing :)
Same
godspeed is a song i hold so close in my heart, i listened to it a lot after my friend passed, such a beautiful song and this entire album is the same, true perfection of an album
Pretty Sweet is so underrated in my opinion. I love the chaotic opening into this releasing/freeing feeling afterwards, and then it picks back up again. To me, I've always thought of it as a representation of the highs and lows of life, but that's just my interpretation! Also, you guys should cover more Frank in the future! I would love to see Nostalgia, Ultra; Channel Orange; and Endless covered. Love and peace to you both
Totally agree, Pretty Sweet is probably one of my fav tracks of all time.
pretty sweet is my fav song from that album it really is underrated
Unironically one of my favorites on the album and I love how you can really see his influences on the track while still sounding unique. I did still have a good laugh at the "this the song you played for the ho's?" bit because that's pretty damn accurate.
🚮
i feel like pretty sweet is a manic episode. It's Frank in denial, saying he's okay and feeling amazing, only to crash in White Ferrari
One of the best “first reaction” albums out there…..such a unique and unpredictable listen. Great video!
yooo it’s the legend in the flesh
I made sure to read that in 10 seconds
🙏❤️
this was so entertaining to watch. love the open mind and passion your dad has for any type of music!
Ah just found this channel, I think this is such a beautiful concept . Capturing such raw moments like this ! Sending u both lots of love 💖
