Federer's movement, timing, forehand and volleys were godlike back then. Never understood why he abandoned this particular fh technique. It was perfect.
His forehand back swing here was already shorter than in 2003-2004. He probably changed it naturally as it seemed easier for him. Fed's game is a lot about instinct and he probably felt like it wasn't a good idea to "go against" his instinct and force himself to keep the larger back swing.
We've been spoiled all these years with the big 3, now that 2 of them are out there's a big emptiness on the tour and when Novak hangs his racket it'll never be the same again.
Djokovic was very cocky as a youngster, like telling he had the match under control against Rafa QF RG 2006 or his chest bumping and yelling during matches. Federer didn't like that. Also had to do with Nole's family. Remember Djokovic's mom said after Djokovic winning their 2008 AO SF: "The King is dead, lone live the king." Djokovic became more humble after that, his family unfortunately didn't.
He was always salty when he had players who were competitive against him. You can already see Djokovic's potential in the first 3 games of the first set. Back then though he was still very erratic with his game, especially the forehand. You can see Federer about to smash his racket after that one point by Novak but he stopped lol
@@anniechan9922 That's not being salty, and Djokovic has actually broken countless racquets after losing points like that. Like in the Hopman Cup against Medvedev or at the Davis Cup against Monfils. And those are just in team competition (he's not a good team competitor, shown in the latest Olympics mixed doubles fiasco after his lost at the Singles Bronze Medal match).

LOL he barely beat 38 year old Federer in Wimby 2019 and he lost to Nadal in 2 grand slam finals Us 2010 and us 2013..Novak is good but overrated...No version of Djokovic can beat A0 09 Nadal

@@dkdk9921 No Im not joking. Federer really is far greater than Nadal cuz he performed better at wider variety of big tournaments and court surfaces. It shows how much more versatile he has been. Yes great job from Rafa beating Roger at those times but Federer also beat him at same tournament at different times. Rafa's big titles are significantly skewed towards clay. Tennis is not only about big success in one surface and H2H between two players dude. Not to forget Rafa never won ATP Finals which shows he could never win a tournament beating only the very best while Roger did it 6 times! Also Roger sat at Number 1 position for much longer period. Nuff said.
@@_jiwi2674 agree. Federer's weeks at no1 is an indication of that. Nadal usually was absent during the indoor season and a lot of times during the grass season. Federer was almost always present during the whole season in terms of results. Nadal still has 0 WTF.
