There is no “perfect” carry gun. Different strokes for different folks. Nothing wrong with that either.

Absolutely. If a Colt Detective Special has worked for you for 60 years (including a couple of actual events) and you are competent and confident with it then who are most of us (with much less practical experience) to say otherwise.
An LCP in the pocket beats a G19 in the safe for sure. If your not going to actually carry it, it isn't the right choice.

You covered this topic extremely well. Whenever there is an opportunity to try another pistol I always give it a shot (pardon the pun). I have found that the M&P Shield Plus shot extremely well and it handled itself like a much larger pistol. In regards to recoil I think that the ported barrel version would serve me better as there is even less recoil using a ported barrel, but I don't want the CT Red Dot on it. The other ported barrel version doesn't have an optics ready slide so I don't want that one either. Let's see what Kahr Arms and HK introduce in a couple of months. The CZ P10M was a joke.

Always love your videos and commentary even if I don’t always agree with the options. For the most part I agree most of your choices. Carry options, in my opinion, really come down to the wielder. Personally, the shield plus is arguably the best carry option given size, capacity, shoot ability, and conceal-ability. 6’1” near 200lbs it’s just comfortable and in my hands it’s one that I can trust to put shots on target. However, I know guys that would say the same for a G19, Taurus G3, 1911s, etc. just depends on the person.

you didnt like the stock trigger? i liked mine when i had one. and i had a 407k on it with cowitnessing night sights and tlr7, better than sig365xl dressed the same, except i had the coyote laser grip, but despite it having a metal flat trigger. it was just too mushy, and was the only gun i witnessed a failure to fire due to light primer strike. it was wack ammo, but i need something that eats everything. rn im dealing with a Shield Plus i just got for 350 after rebate, all it needs is night sights. trigger is fire and grip angle, texture, width, length and height just make it feel nice. as well as the finish, design. only flaw i see right now is that i lubed it up with a silicon cloth and i couldnt rack the slide back. my hand just kept sliding off of it, which worried me, in a situation if there was blood on it for whatever reason. but despite that, i havent even shot it yet. i have shot the m2.0 tho and liked it better than my first piece, which was a p320. so im sure eith this trigger, it feels like it will shoot nice, and everybody claims it is what it is. i dont think at this point, after selling all my guns and settling with the Plus, i dont think i have a need to customize a carry gun other than sights, if necessary anymore. they were cool to look at, but for edc its not too necessary if 3-7yds is your danger zone. , but lets say a battle gun, like a full size or even a decent compact size, that could serve more purpose in my opinion.

I’ve been carrying since 1968 & one thing I’ve learned is that too big & heavy eventually gets left at home. Started w/a J Frame S&W, switched to pocket holsters a few years ago and recently p/u the LCP Max also in a pocket holster. It’s small & light enough to be an always gun w/excellent sights & descent capacity. The caliber thing does not bother me. My best advise is choose something you shoot well & is small & light enough that you can carry it in any situation.

@@buddditchendorf1847 if you want to use a flashlight on your gun as a WML go for it. But me personally my holster of choice is the tier 1 concealment T1-M. Simple easy and very minimal, good quality as well. You can get a shield plus with the light for it and attach it when going to bed or at your house. Or get a hand held light and when you go to the range do the Harries Technique for shooting at least one box of 50 to get it down each range trip. Would definitely practice every week if possible. With the Harris technique with a Glock 17 I qualified at the range from 3-15 yards with a full score of 250. Granted on my full size handgun I have a WML because two hands are better on a handgun than one. Even if you get a weapon mounted light would recommend hitting the range with low light and practice activating and deactivating the WML.

Thanks for that perspective. I have considered putting a light on at the end of the EDC day/night. It would seem to me the Equalizer would be easier for that. But that changes weight, size and holster options too. Then there is the possibility that adding and removing a lightly every day/night may be the most dangerous thing I do with it on a day to day basis. I would prefer less handling. But I really appreciate your perspective that the Shield to you is minimal footprint and it seems you would prefer not to change that. Thanks!

Having an external safety is 1 thing I like as well. Cooked and locked...there ain't a better gun for it than a 1911. I also have an ultra carry 2 on rotation especially in the winter when you can wear more cover. And if im in the woods open carrying its the psa dagger s full size. Love that gun better than any glock I've ever put my hands on. Personally size, caliber and personal comfort are the 3 things that are most important. Perfect carry gun is what the end user is most comfortable with IMO. working at a range and as an instructor I see this a lot. New firearm owners for the most part feed off of experienced individuals opinions. What works for one may not work for another. Personally if your looking for the best edc, go to a range that has rental guns. Try out a few different handguns out. Then use a process of elimination and make the decision based off of your performance with the handguns. There is no ONE manufacturer that works for everyone. Honestly the best part of the journey is the knowledge you gain from experience. I use a tier 1 concealed MSP flex AIWB and carry a 5in m&p with a Surefire x300. It’s not for everyone but we’re not all the same.

I personally have settled on a setup that I feel gives me everything I want out of a carry setup. For some people it might not be their personal choice but I don't find it limits me in any way. Of course everyone is different, some people need a larger gun in order to shoot properly, and some people can get away with a P365X or XL size pistol.
PS. CZ P10 S or CZ P10M are exactly what you are looking for and they have been out for a long while, and there will be a direct competitor to the P365 from HK soon (modularity too).

Personally, I am not into seeking "maximum comfort" from a tiny small handgun. I care about *delivering maximum performance.* Thus, the ideal *minimum* barrel for the 9mm caliber is a 4" long barrel pistol.
Hence, I EDC a *Walther PDP midsize 4.5", or a PDP Pro SD Compact,* interchangeably at will.
I also like to carry sometimes (I rotate my handguns) the *CZ P10C, the Canik METE SFT, or the FN 509 Tactical.*
If circumstances do not allow me to carry any of those handguns that I own, then I resort to the *Canik TP9 Elite SC 15+1,* or the newly released *Sig Sauer P365 XMacro TACOPS 17+1.* The latter is a magnificent accurate tack driver kind of handgun, truly one of the very best in its class.
I don't care for micro guns. To each their own.

Going to have to disagree on the M&P 2.0 Subcompact. The extra "bulk" of .2 inches width and 2.4 ounces can have advantages. For example, the circumference of the grip vs my Shield Plus PC makes it a better fit in my hand. Recoil is more manageable because of the larger grip and weight. And the interchangeable backstraps allow customization. Most on this list don't have that option. The extra .2 inches of width is not hard to conceal under a t-shirt. I'm sure others will disagree and say it's outdated or too big because it is not a wonder micro, but it is definitely included in my rotation under certain circumstances.

Ive had family try to convince me that a shotgun is the best for home-defense, and that I need to get a S&W shield for carry.
So anyway, I trusted my instincts & got an M&P9 2.0 4"😄. The "perfect" gun for any situation, is whatever feels best & works best for YOU. I have significantly bigger hands than said family, to the point that I cannot get a real grip on a shield (even with the +2/3 rd mag) My palm & pinkey hang off the bottom, & the grip is so thin that my hand almost entirely wraps around the gun. And then my support hand is squeezing against fingertips instead of grip. Then theres the short sight-radius, and snappier recoil, all while having a lousy grip on the gun. Not to mention the drastically lower capacity compared to 15+1 in my M2.0c. I shoot my 2.0 far better than anything else, including long guns.. even at 15-25 yards. So I've argued several times, that the "best gun" is what your the most effective & most comfortable with. Im glad i made the right choice, the 2.0 compact fits like a glove, & easy to control.. To the point where im actually more accurate when mag-dumping it (simulating a self-defense rate of fire). At 15yards, slow shots were around a 10" group. While the mag dump group was around 6" or so👍

I don’t know how people carry these… and actually conceal them. Especially if your not a big dude or have anywhere to hide it. I’ve tried a few different guns and they all print (massively or are heavy as hell) unless I jump from a medium to an XL shirt! About the only thing I can carry other than a pocket pistol is a Glock 42 (in the summer) or a Glock 43 (in the winter that I can conceal with a sweatshirt).

What position are you carrying in? For appendix, a talon on your holster really helps. What also helps is that people don't tend to focus on the lower abdominal/crotch region. If you're carrying strongside, 4 o'clock works well for me with a slight forward cant.

Its cheap and easy to remove or reposition if ya want. Between the 2, I probably have 2500 rds thru a Shield Plus. They just carry well, great size, and boy do they shoot well for me. At 6'-1" and weighing about 160-165 pounds. I'm a skinnier guy. I have 2 that I carry. Oddly enough during the winter when I am wearing more clothing I carry a Taurus G3C. I just shoot better with it and I haven't had a failure with it yet. It feels so much more comfortable in my hand and I have better aim with it. Summer though, being skinnier it's hard to conceal the G3C as well so I have a S&W Bodygaurd I carry in the hot months. Started off with a full size Beretta PX4 Storm as my first conceal carry gun that only weighs 28oz and was my initial “everything gun” to then get a Springfield Armory XD-E that carried 8/9 + 1 as my first dedicated EDC. Eventually I graduated and upgraded to a Sig p365 XL three years ago. Funny enough, there are times I’ll rotate in my Beretta PX4 Storm for conceal carry as given a choice I’d much rather have a full size handgun then a micro compact no matter how good. Heck, there are times I’ll even conceal carry my Springfield Armory 1911 even though it’s a whopping 40oz and only carries 8+1 of the Lord’s caliber .45ACP 😏 There’s just something to be said for a bigger handgun despite that they are not as comfortable and/or easier to conceal.

Comfort is pretty key for most people. If your firearm isn’t very comfortable to carry for long periods of time, you are much less likely to carry it every day, pretty much nullifying the choice of that particular firearm. Sure, I can carry a Glock 19 or CZ P07 reasonably comfortably, but my 43, 43X, or P365 are my go to choices for EDC. Smaller footprint, lighter, and easier to carry all day.

Glock is a double edged sword. They ARE very reliable (most guns are these days), but the grip angle is what does in most people. A lot of people can’t shoot it well, because of the grip angle. And usually, if you can shoot a Glock well, you will end up shooting pistols with differing grip angles worse. I shoot Glocks fairly well, but most other brands I end up shooting low.
