If everyone who carried concealed decided to open carry, the amount of guns you would physically see out in public would be enormous. Open carry would suddenly turn into a not so "dangerous" activity. If you're commonly walking around in public with friends or a significant other, then open carry together or as a group. Actually, I've had people complain about people open carrying at a BBQ that I host once a month during the warmer months in a public park in Minnesota. The anti-gunners in MN have been keeping track of the records of ALL people with handgun carry permits. Of course, that won't change the fact that we are a nation of Cowards, who will beg permission to exercise Rights... then act as if someone else is responsible for our unjust gun "laws". There is nothing wrong with open carry if you are smart with it. I did it over a year on my 3 o'clock. Most people never noticed due to my positioning and relaxed demeanor. I also had a locking retention holster in case someone saw and went for it. I never let people linger behind me and always kept situation awareness. One time I was in a pet store and the manager's son spotted it on my hip ( I didn't realize it was take your child to work day) she proceeded to follow me around the whole store and checked me out herself when I was done shopping. She was very rude and short with me. Kinda confusing why you would mess with an armed person like that 😂 Even if I was a danger... Why would you be rude and try to piss me off? I could potentially save your life! There was also one time when i was in the city and 3 men were following me around sizing me up. They followed me at least a mile and I chose indirect paths to verify that they were indeed following me in particular. Once it was clear I stopped and leaned against a wall turning to show my OWB holster on my hip. They took notice and dispersed in the opposite direction. I heard a low "oh sh!t" and they were gone. I didn't have to say a thing or throw a nasty look at all. It is definitely a deterrent.

I'm even armed at the house about 75% of the time. Half the time I open carry & half the time I conceal carry. I'm under the belief if more people saw open carry, they would become more comfortable seeing people armed. The liberal-left has forced me to feel, if you're offended by my firearm, I really don't care. I've also had several conversations get started about firearms and protecting life. Who knows if someone's on the fence about getting a firearm, maybe what I can explain to them will convince them to purchase their first one. On the other hand, if I go into unknown territory, cities, or very crowded areas I definitely conceal carry. It goes to the target/theft idea. I also conceal carry inside many businesses such as banks or movie theaters, anywhere you might consider it, maybe a, "semi sensitive area." I am at this point more concerned with my inexperience, as I haven't touched a gun in the last 15 years, and never have I had a pistol. Hi Hegshot, great video. There are, as you know, different reasons for open or concealed carry. One issue that seems to be rarely addressed is the reason for open carry. Is it actually to gain access to the firearm more quickly when needed, or as we in law enforcement would sometimes refer to as the: " Look at me i have a gun" mindset. It is my opinion that this mentality is far greater than many open carry people perhaps wiah to admit. This type of person for whatever reason, may believe they are ready for any situation, and even hope to have a reason to "take charge" in certain situation(s) where actually they don't have the ability or training to do so. Again, i am not referring to those who open carry with the right intentions, continually training and always remembering that "deadly force" should be the last option that can never be reversed. Stay safe.

One other point i failed to mention is the value of gun retention . In those scenarios, there are those who have the ability to remove a firearm, even with security holsters. In our police academy, we learned that those incarcerated particularly in state prisons, practice disarming technques on a regular basis. Then when released, that training is taken back and taught on the street, to disarm police officers. It doesn't matter what level or security system of the holster, that problem will always exist. This is is why situational awareness is so critical and don't just rely on a holster. Stay safe.

As someone who prefers CC, I like your point, but I will offer a slight counterpoint on the “culture” aspect of CC vs OC. I definitely see the “hero complex” in gun culture from OC but I’m not sure you can’t reach that conclusion from many CCers logic as well, and I’ll explain what I mean. I totally buy the tactical advantage of CC if shit does hit the fan, it’s why I prefer it, but I do get the sense that many bring this up but overlook the possible preventative advantage of OC. IMO, some CCers give the sense that they’d rather have a tactical advantage in a defensive incident than prevent it totally. Now on both sides, these numbers are small and I truly believe that most who carry are a force for good, but I think the “I want to conceal so I can surprise the criminal instead of possibly deterring him,” can come from the wrong place in the same way as the “I want to be the big tough guy with the gun” mentality.
Funnily enough, the example in the video of having a yard sign announcing the presence of security at the house was used to defend CC, but I think it’s actually a better argument for the deterrence that open carry might offer. Ultimately it’s situational and I commend anyone who chooses to carry responsibly

The way people dress usually gives away people that conceal carry. Most of my friends are bearded, tattooed, American flag shirt/cap wearing individuals. IMO it's a dead giveaway they are carrying.

I have a trip planned to an open carry state that does not recognize my home state permit. I have carried concealed for 30 years and am a little freaked out about open carry. The city where we are staying has bears and cougars that sometimes roam the streets. I will bring a gun but I am not sure if I will OC.

I conceal carry and always have, easier on the eye in public and I carry one at work also. As for the gun I carry a M&P 380 EZ 2. I feel having it hidden does not make me as much of a target and there is the surprise when it is needed.

I too open carry. But that is mostly because I bought a full size gun. I’m a big guy and small guns are difficult for me to control. So I opted for a full-size gun. I do my best to properly holster it, and cover it. I usually wear a hoodie or an open button shirt to help hide it. But I find this way of carrying to be the most comfortable for me.

I open carry because I have a right to keep and bare arms. Don't want to ask permission. I think it's an infringement. I carry a 1911 45 commander in a flap holster. Most folks don't notice or care.

I personally do not agree with ever getting a CC, so I just use common sense for particular situations. If I'm in a group, I'll carry openly if I carry. Or if I'm alone getting gas late at night.
But if I'm on a walk, or alone-ish in a crowded space like at a festival or outdoors concert.... I'll conceal it.
I do have hip holsters, but I also have holsting garter belts for my dresses/skirts. I prefer a garter because they quickly adjust and can be slid down to be within open carry law if the situation changes.

I’d to hear people’s thoughts on open vs concealed carry when you might expect a little trouble. I work in property management and often deal with: evictions, really bad neighborhoods, people that already pissed off before I arrive, and clearing buildings that appear to be broken into. It’s not everyday buts it’s more often than you think. I often do not bring my weapon because I don’t want want to have to make that hard decision. I’ve become quite skilled at de-escalation and or intimidation and when to use either

So is dropping the soap in the prison shower if convicted based on past statements. Talking of surprising people in reference to shootings implies intent. Now if you want to correct that to being prepared it might not sound so bad to a jury. Let's be very clear, your chances of being prosecuted, depending on state, are high even if it is just 1%, it is not worth it. Sometimes it is best just not to say stuff that may come back to bite you in the arse.

Guess there are pros and cons to both…what’s comfortable with the gun you have. Wardrobe matters too. I don’t tend to wear my pants lose enough for an inside the waste holster, and with the Glock….tend to wear outside the waste holster. Harder to conceal…..so somewhere in between is where I’m at. And it’s OK.

The one point you almost made but ended up making the contrary was the path of least resistance. We all know firearms PREVENT significantly more crimes than times they are even drawn in an emergency. If a criminal sees your house has the security cameras but the neighbor doesn’t, he’s going to that house with no cameras, like you said. The point contrary to what you said is that in a concealed carry situation, the criminal doesn’t see the “cameras”. To some degree you’re almost making yourself more of a target if someone were to think you were an easy target and therefore attempt to harm you. If they could see your firearm, the chances of them simply not engaging are significantly higher than them attempting to target you first. You end up with 4 tiers of potential engagement.
1 - criminal wants no conflict and thinks there will be no conflict therefore targeting you
2 - criminal wants no conflict and sees your firearm, preventing any conflict from arising.
3 - criminal doesn’t care and targets the easiest target
4 - criminal doesn’t care and targets the biggest threat first
Either way you would be a potential target, it just depends on the type of criminal and how much they care about engaging. I’d say statistically, the vast majority would simply not engage, keeping you and everyone around you out of potential harm from engagement. Now consider EVERYONE open carrying. That would be a clear sign to any criminal to stay clear, even if they didn’t care about targeting the biggest threat. That turns EVERYONE into their biggest threat.
To me it sounds like the only downsides to open carry is the element of surprise, which is only useful AFTER the criminal has engaged (and very well might not have engaged had you been open carrying), the ability for someone to grab your firearm, or for now simply societal comfort levels.
Concealed carry seems to have more downsides, aside from the points I made above.

I totally agree with you. Concealed carry is way more of a liability than OC because in order for the criminal to see your weapon you have to brandish it, OC will save way more lives than CC just think about it. 👍🏾👍🏻🇺🇲

Well, if I knew when and where I needed to protect myself, then I shouldn't always carry my self-defense weapon ... because I wouldn't go there then. But I don't know.. so, the weapon is hidden inside my waistband when I leave my apartment. (The primary goal is security, avoid or retire from a dangerous situation. Remember: run is also an option. Your pride is important, but your life is more important!)
Note: I am from the EU, here for civilians only the gas gun is allowed (i used load the magazine pepper and tear gas mixed loadout. Everyone has an eyes... :D ), only hidden, not a real firearm, and rarely. Even this is better than nothing, but it is also abslolulte worth nothing, if left at home...
The point is every self defense tool: practice, practice and practice ,that you can really use it when needed. (i hope: never...)

I carry both ways. Just depends on the circumstances.
If I am out camping or in the wild, I open carry. One, it is nearly impossible to conceal carry a rifle. Two, an encounter with another human in the woods is NEVER a good sign. Also, if I come across a wild animal that wants to attack, having easy access to my weapon is a must. Bear spray is my first choice, but it can fail.
If I am in a populated area, I prefer conceal carry. Element of surprise is huge for me. Plus, I get tired of dealing with anti-gunners. I've had the police called on me multiple times when I open carry. Obviously I do as the officers command and they realize I am lawfully carrying, but it is a hassle and a waste of my time.

I’m one of the “fluffy” guys😂, I’ve tried concealed IWB, works ok with the right holster but my preferred method is OWB with a higher ride on the holster. For me, easier access and conceals just as easily. Either way IWB or OWB ill be wearing a shirt to cover it up. I carry a Glock 19 with a Tlr7 and Holosun red dot. Conceals very well. Does the heel print when i bend over? Yes. But at least in can bend over a lot more comfortably. Also sitting in a vehicle is much more comfortable. But i also have a ready holster i transfer the gun to on longer road trips. Just my 2 cents and how it works for me. Be safe and keep carrying.😊
