Empathy is sitting with someone and being a comforting presence--holding space for them and feeling without changing anything, but instead helping someone get in touch with their deeper feelings; while compassion is doing something that acknowledges their feelings and gives a greater sense of healing. This song is a great example of both of these: someone who saw and heard someone's feelings and transformed it into something beautiful in the end that recognized the feelings.
_"You'll hurt yourself trying to smile, when there's still the taste of lament in your mouth"_ From the opening lyrics I am hooked. This is one of those songs that has an important story to tell. I love what Jay says about it too: _“I wrote this song after a close friend of mine had told me she had gone through something terrible,” Jay Sakong commented on ‘Roma White’. “I felt like there wasn’t anything I could say to make this any better. To say that I understood what she was going through would’ve been a lie, and we both would’ve known it. All I could do was to be there next to her in that moment.”_ *Can you imagine the world if everyone did what they could sometimes to selflessly ease the pain of another?*
@@aylbdrmadison1051 Yeah I have been trying to quit. Haven't been able to do it straight up, so lessened my regular consumption to slowly wash out the cravings.
At some point I'm going to attempt to record this in my colleges studio. Ima have to call in people to do all the parts, (I cant do everything) hopefully I can get it close to this amazing sound!
Thing is it’s one riff of literally a dozen in the song! That’s the wonder with Owel, not one riff or section anchors a song, I’ve learnt so much from your bold arrangements to be more adventurous in songwriting, thank you! Also, UK tour and can we support please :D
@Simon Chatterton : People have been creating music and songs for so many thousands of years that _"copying a riff"_ is literally inevitable and near impossible not to do. It may not be so obvious to someone who hasn't studied music history, but I am a musician and teacher who has studied both music of many genres and the history of music enough to guarantee you this is true. I'm not advocating copying anyone outright though ofc. In fact as far as listening to music goes, I am constantly searching for something new and unique. That's how I found Owel. ^-^

Yall coming to Atlanta?
Easily forgivable that they copied the riff from Slowdive’s ‘sugar for the pill’, both fine songs I could listen to on repeat :)
Simon Chatterton Simon Chatterton just checked it out on Spotify. Whoa... very similar. I think it's even the same key! Whoops
Also not gonna lie, kinda glad you turned me on to this song haha
