*exact* *same* *for* *me* but its now 2022 :o HOWWWWW lollll ...I have been a huge Radiohead fan since 1999 and like any possible remotely connected band....some how this reallly slipped under my radar and I cannot fathom how!!!
Well said mate. She’s one of the greatest drummers I’ve ever heard or seen. For sure. You’d only understand it though if you play music or drums specifically.
i just stumbled across this video but think you guys are having a laugh, she's a competent drummer sure, but it's not like she's larnell lewis or flo mounier, they have a good band sound together which makes her sound powerful
@@hughmcgown did I say she’s the best female drummer in the world or something? I’m not comparing her to anyone. she suits the band very well. autolux is a very hypnotic and understated band with flourishes of noise and Karla punctuates and accentuates those aspects perfectly. i can name a dozen drummers in the same genre from bigger acts that don’t contribute nearly as much to my enjoyment of their albums.
@@ARMTOAST not comparing her to anyone but the dozens you could name okay then haha, i think yall are exaggerating but whatever maybe i need to see more videos of them
@@hughmcgown i wasn’t comparing before but then i did for clarity. and i said a dozen. to rattle some off the top of my head, i think Ringo Deathstarr, Astrobrite, Drop Nineteens, Chapterhouse, Airiel, Catherine Wheel, Fleeting Joys, LSD and the Search for God, Pale Saints, and even Medicine get less out of their drummers than Autolux does, on their first two albums in particular. a lot of that is stylistic to be sure, but my point stands. Listen to Audience No. 2 and youll hear how much the drums carry that song from a filler track to something memorable.
I still remember finding this band in 2006, only because the singer of my then favorite band Tool, Maynard James Keenan, thought them to be smth like the most interesting band of that time. Thanks for that, after 20 years their debut is still amazing, and Plantlife & Here Comes Everybody still my absolute favs.
i hate my life, i'm a great fucking dummer, and i can't find a band like this one, to play with. distortion, and good melodies. at 01:38, fuck! more volume!, quickly!.
I love music like this and will play like this guitar or bass anything i will do and with passion lets start a band im in alabama and weeks away from being homeless ill move use up credit and take loans and make it happen.
First time hearing this and it made my heart smile. Always, a great thing to ask folks to send music that they enjoy as an icebreaker. Glad to have this been shared with me, and plan on passing along this bands music to others.
Of all my good friend with such wonderful music taste, super compatible with mine, no one has ever heard of autolux. So grateful for whatever algorithm blessed me with them
I am seemingly unable to not have this song in my consciousness for any given 5 minutes for the last three days after hearing it for the first time. Help?
this is nothing like tool, even sans metal. the way this song is written is not even close to what a tool song is contructed like. And, to be honest, to watch something absolutely amazing, just go watch hella. Sounds just as awful, but at least there's interesting stuff going on.
@darkd0g3 are you fking kidding me?! that breakdown is one of the best breakdowns ever! the moment that bass kicks in it's pure bliss, you're up in the sky. And then they add the sexy, almost cruel, lyrics "shut your mouth" until it burst down into busting that chord and then the spacey outro. I agree it doesn't come on that well in this performance, but you should check the cd version, I've been spacing out of my mind to this track for years. Bottomline, this song IS perfect
Search for _Autolux Live at Third Man Records_ ...it's on iTunes/amazon/googleplay. This song is on it! also Capital Kind of Strain, Subzero Fun, Blanket... they all sound great!
THIS is why I think the first album has infi itely better production for them than the later 2...on "FP", they used T-Bone Burnett, who talked them out of their intended method of doing everything very methodically, piece by piece, and convinced them to go for capturing their live sound in the room without a lot of artificial layering/punch ins. After the 1st record, he was gone, and so was that philosophy. Still amazing live though
Man, amazing comment. Indeed the production on their first album is totally perfect, as an engineer I often use it as a reference. Also their first record was mixed by Dave Sardy who is quite an amazing mix engineer ! :) I don't really enjoy their later releases, maybe the "live" factor is the reason.
Some old Cursive. Some Modest Mouse. Pavement. Sunny day real estate!!! Some Sparta, try "im a loner Dottie, a rebel" by the get up kids, and they have other good stuff.
Looks like a home refinish. You could have one like it if you want! My guess is the sounds comes from guitarists hands and pedals mostly, maybe the Twin reverb a bit
Yeah that would make sense; I do know that they both use random noise generator-type pedals. I'd give my first born child to sit down with the band for 30 minutes, and see their setups.
a great band ut--they couldn't play da shit live in new orleans- i was there watching dude tryed talk to me but i was high as fuck on dat kurt cobain--so don't fuk wit me--but a great band period
I know this was 5 years ago, so the chance you are still looking for the answer is quite Slim, but that swirling Distortion noise that opens and continues for a while is coming from Eugene's Bass through some sort of noise pedal. If you notice, right as he comes in with the vocals he leans forward and takes his fingers off of the base and the noise Fades out
@Nickazz i've listened to the album version more than this one, and i still end up thinking that the breakdown's lacking something..the drums and guitar seem especially out of place. the outro is great as well, though. anyway, it'd be boring if we all agreed :P
most under-appreciated band in the world.
Is failure...

yes.
got some radio head, nine inch nails, interpol vibes. I like.
antdujar totally! I get some pretty sonic youth/placebo vibes as well. But the singer sings like Elliot Smith, which is great! Rip
well they did tour with nin one time
also for me it gives silversun pickups vibes

Great :)

I just found them. Holy shit so many good songs.
I didn't find out about them until 2013-2014 and I only just found out today they've been around since 05'! We're catching up now 😆❤️
This sounds like Radiohead jamming with Thurston Moore.
A pretty impressive feat for a 3 piece band. 😌
Thurston wishes he were this good
I don't know why, but my two cats seem to LOVE Autolux...
All other accolades dim into insignificance when compared to this!
Greg Edwards is a motherfucking LEGEND. This is amazing
I do believe I've been watching this on a continuous loop for two days, and have no future plans to stop.
imfromthefuture.
me too
Man, Karla fuckin drives this song so well. She's so powerful yet so cautious, it's like watching a doberman balance a piece of meat on its nose.

Her drumming w Josh Homme & co is also amazing on the desert sessions.

His voice here is very feminine, I thought it was a woman in the og version lol, not a bad thing of course

This song sounds like Sonic Youth. This is not a bad thing.
Don't really hear the Sonic Youth others hear. Which song?
I've asked the same thing so many times. The only thing I can think of is that it's pre-recorded in some sort of sampler.
Puscifer brought me here.
Woah that looks almost identical to my refinished '69 SG I used to have! I had to do a double take haha I think it's time to go silver sparkle again
Hey are you reading this? do u remember ¿?
It is some strange pedals on Eugene's bass I think.
