  • I liked the idea of the cold air inlet kits you can buy for your stoves but had no idea if they really work or not. I made my own to test the theory and the results were amazing. Save yourself alot of money and make your own with my easy solution.

    Thank you for the information, it was very useful. I was thinking of installing an fresh air intake to the outside, but after you mentioned that drawing the air from the house, instead of outside will make the home less humid, I changed my mind. I live in a warmer climate, in a block and parging constructed house, with ceramic slab on grade floors. We have a lot of humidity in the home, in the Winter. Hopefully this pellet stove will solve the problem. 😉 Thanks again.

    I added a fresh air intake to my Harmon Accentra pellet stove this year and went from 1 40lbs bag per 24 hour, to the same bag lasting about 30. My 1000sq ft house stays 75 degrees even when it was in the 20's this year.

      The Combustion Air intake does not get hot. It is Air being drawn into the Combustion chamber not exhaust. Lol

      I have heard that you're not supposed to use PVC due to potential backdraft. To be honest, I feel like even if it did have a backdraft for a second or two, a PVC pipe could handle it without melting. However, I don't know enough about backdrafts and I don't want to take the risk my insurance won't pay out if I burn the house down and they find PVC air intake. For now, I am settling for the janky flexible ducting, but I'm really thinking about exhaust pipe or even a vacuum cleaner tube after watching this guy's video.

    Air intake (OAK) or not!!? Am looking for answers. Getting conflicting info. I have a pellet stove in finished bsmt. Got it with house purchase. First winter. Damp air in this region. Common problem with cold floor drafts. Dealer says no to outside air intake because damp air will cause problems. I cant see much info that supports the damp air issue. Anyone? Have an HRV as well. I run it now and then. Elec costs here are outrageous. Dont want to run that 24/7 to keep fresh air just for stove. Frustrating problem! Oak kit or not? Then need a way to "dry" the air before it gets to stove if what dealer says is right. . Some moisture absorbing bucket or ??? Grasping here!

    Can no intake be the reason I barley have a flame
    ?

    • @mr.diytech3591
      @mr.diytech3591  2 роки тому

      It needs air to draw in one way or another to get oxygen to the flames. It wouldn't hurt to try it out and put something on the back to test it.

    It's amazing how misunderstood these Air Inlets are on Pellet and Wood stoves!
    People just guess what it's for and Bam another video!!
    It's not a Cold or Hot air intake.
    It's sole purpose is to provide Outside Air into the burn chamber.
    The proper names would be.
    Makeup Air
    Fresh Air
    Or Combustion Air
    It has nothing to do with Air Temp.
    In the 70s they passed a law that All wood and pellet stoves had to draw Combustion Air from outside the home.
    It keeps from creating a negative pressure inside which draws drafts from every little hole and crack in the dwelling.

      would it not be called a called air intake for the same reason a vehicle air intake is called a cold air intake? it not that the air is "cold" per se, but that its cooler than the original hot air it was taking in from the original location, for better combustion, which is the point of a cold air intake.

    • @jamesglenn520
      @jamesglenn520 2 роки тому

      @@frognutz0o Cold air intake for a Combustion Engine is a completely different thing.
      The air intake for makeup air to an open flame is the feed oxygen for a cleaner burn.
      Colder air into a Engine creates more horsepower.

    In this video he talks about making the bend off the back of the stove.
    First off the stove is to close to the wall.
    It's probably not installed to Code.
    The Combustion Air intake is designed to go down through the floor under the dwelling or straight out the back 🤔
    If you start extending it out you have to step up the pipe size so it will Draft Properly.
    You really have to pay attention to what you terminate the end of the pipe with so you don't create a restriction.
    If you do draw from through the wall depending on how much snow you get it could block the intake as well.

    • @jamesglenn520
      @jamesglenn520 3 роки тому

      This installation is disaster waiting to happen!!
      Stove and pipe look to be way to close to the wall.
      He doesn't show the connection at the stove for the Combustion Air but I'm pretty sure that it is NOT 2inch.
      It should be at least 3inch or larger.
      That means not only has it been choked down to 2inch but has also been Extended way to far.
      He instantly starts talking about price for material and uses Car Exhaust which is more expensive and weighs a ton more.
      Galvanized or Aluminum snaplock ventilation pipe from the Depot is all you need.
