Fishing the Daiwa Open Beach Championships on the Holderness Coast

- The holderness coast is home to some great competitions, and the Daiwa Open Beach Championships is one of them!
Competition boundaries were from Bridlington North Beach down to Paull lighthouse. With a southerly wind, meaning weed would be an issue on southern beaches, we decided to head to Cowden and hope the surf would throw up a good bass.
Love your videos really enjoy them and love the banter with your dad quality time and memories.
I'm glad you like them, Dave! Yeah it's good to get out together!
I fish much like your dad. In fact, some days I might as well leave the gear in the car and just take the flask down to the water. 😀
Haha, to be fair, at times, my gear may as well still be in the car too 🤣
lol thats pretty much me as well.
I'm like that myself, just chuck it out and hope for the best now. Been through the mill with match fishing. Decoy trace's hanging off my tripod.. all kinds of clipped down springy Gemini and breakaway set ups. In my head I was casting over the horizon with three clipped down sandeels sometimes dragging in treble dogfish... never really enjoyed the moment
Now it's just fishing for the banter, tea and sandwiches, turning up late for matches etc the tidal motion cleaning off the hooks more than fish are 🤣🤣👍
This is great to hear guys! As much as I rip in to my dad for it, he enjoys it and that's what counts. It's good that you're all managing to get out 👌🏽
I beach fish off the Norfolk coast, winter time is pointless just whitting the size of you thumb nail lol. The summer time is not to bad from about mid April night tides lots of bass upto 10 to 11 pounds.
Glad to see your dad is up and running 😊
Cheers Andrew! Running is a bit of a stretch, but don't think he's ran for a couple decades now
Nice videos and nice to be able to go out with dad, fishing with dad or family is always better imo over friends
Thanks Steve, yeah it's a different vibe to going with mates that's for sure
Always nice seeing you fishing with your dad. And interesting stuff, as I'm new to it all I knew very little about match fishing.
Thanks, Mat. Find your local Facebook group, there's bound to be one for your local area. Then usually you will see matches organised or smaller clubs you could join who will organise little comps. Even if its just a case of chucking £5 in a pot and top 3 places split the prize.
I put it off for ages, but it's a great way to get out fishing and meet like minded people!
@@theawfulangler Many thanks for the info ideas. I must admit to actually being an awful angler. Having had very little success, mainly using the excuse that I'm just practicing because my local spot is very quiet fish wise (not just for me). And only started earlier this year. But I'm certain I'd meet people who could help out with that if I make the effort. Nice one.
It's always good to fish around other people, as long as you're open to criticism. The number of people who have offered me casting tips or bait that I'm not using, or said I fished here last week cast slightly more to the right or fish another 100yds down the beach. You can learn something every trip if you're open to it 👍🏼
Loving the dad/son videos.♥️
The footage of the fish chasing your whiting in the surf is amazing.😲
Not a bad days fishing.🎣🎣🎣
I've subscribed, so I look forward to watching future sessions.🫣
Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Cheers Ian! I'm glad it showed up in the footage I wasn't sure if I was imagining it 🤣
Had many a day like your dad. Many a time my wife used to say I should check it to see if I had a hook on the end.
I felt for him, I really did, although he has his fair share wait until next week's video!
I was the lad on your left good to see you getting a few mate was a poor day from start to finish for me
Was it you that snapped your rod tip, mate? It was a steady session, and if it wasn't a competition, I'd be quite happy haha
Yes mate that was me was just a bad day all round should try have a meet up one day for a session
Spot nya joss sekali abangku, salam mania dari kota kinabalu...
Terima kasih kawan
I hope that's correct, I had to use Google Translate!
Hi mate , i enjoyed the vid cheers. All the best from GRIMSBY
Glad to hear it as always Carl 🎣
21:04 hmmm . Your dad is mint.. I call him grumpy. Ask him lol . Top stuff
He certainly would have been grumpy had his slid on his a£$e down that bank 🤣
We need more grumpy old gits !
Haha let me see what I can do!
bloody laughed my arse off with your commentry of your dad coming down the rocks
I'd have felt really bad if he had fallen, but as long as he wasn't seriously hurt I'd have had a really good chuckle 🤣
@@theawfulangler absolutely mate ....we'll be there one day
I've found on a bigger sea with braid straight through you'll alway get tip bounce as there's no stretch in braid.
Some lads use low diameter mono in rough seas and the slight bit of stretch helps.
That makes sense Nick cheers! I guess then, though, you just have to accept weed on the leader knot!
@@theawfulangler unfortunately - you can use tapered leaders to make the knot as small as possible.
There are some mono's that are 45lb ish and low diameter - I'll try and find the brand. You could possibly get away with them with no leader if you're just overhead casting.
That sounds a good option for places like the holderness, where it's mainly sandy beaches 👍🏼
Awa - shima lines are the ones i was thinking of.
47lb is about same diameter as a 'normal' 15lb mono.
Never used them myself but a couple of guys I used to fish with swore by them.
Brilliant, thanks Nick, I'll have a look for them!
Alreet fella cracking videos mate I live in east anglia near kings Lynn ever fished down these parts, normally travel to northeast for fishing
Thanks mate! Travelling is a pain if you don't need to. I fished Cromer pier and great Yarmouth on family holidays as a kid. But if you know good spots and don't mind the travel then fair play
I’ll give them a go cheers mate just struggling to find any marks round here did think about fishing the wash but can’t find anything on web about it cheers mate.
You are doing well to get out mate, I just can't find the time
I know mate, I'm just waiting for the iron bars to go up on the windows...then I'll be presented with the to-do list 😅
Nice one, got a few fish there 👍👍🤠
Was a nice steady day mate, could have just done with a whopper!
Good on yeah mate if you keep this up you will be sponsored by daiwa by Xmas👍.
I haven't been out for weeks just can't get out of donington..
I can only dream, haha! I need to put you in touch with my dad he's in Castle Donnington, too!
That would great bud. I'm sure I have seen him in the village 👍
Just found you. Love your videos. You sound like you're from my neck of the woods too.
Cheers, buddy. Appreciate that! I'm just north of Derby.
@@theawfulangler I'm on the notts/Derby border. just In Nottinghamshire though
I'm just on the other side of the border off J26
@@theawfulangler I'm at 27.
Not a fisherman but love hearing the surf at cowden spent many a hour there looking for bombs
That's one of the best things about sea fishing. it's an excuse to sit by the ocean for a while
❤️
Thanks John
To stop tip bouncing in a swell especially with a fine tip like that, use a fine mono like trabucco surf line
Cheers Jason, you're not the first to mention that. I'll see if I can buy a spare spool for my reels and load them up for big swells 👍🏼
Have you tried the tidal Thames. You can find a spot as far up as barking (possibly further into London if you're smart :-). There's fishing spots all the way past Tilbury fort up to dartford crossing.
I've never fished the Thames mate no, might have to add it to the to do list for next year?
In a competition can you share a rod rest and get a relation to sign your catch?....I live in Dover and in the competitons that we have ...Such as the British Open ...You cant...Just curious lol
All depends on the competition rules, mate. This one stated one rod and minimum gap unless otherwise agreed. But I agree, if I'd have hooked something decent, I would have asked one of the other guys to sign the sheet rather than my dad, although nothing specific in the rules.
@@theawfulangler Cheers. Just leaves competitions open to cheating in my opinion. Especially if large amounts of money at stake.Even a small fish can mean big prizes!....
great video and content mate. keep em coming. ps hows the rugby going?
Cheers mate! Rugby was going good, until I cracked a couple ribs in the bottom of a ruck last week. Couple weeks off needed now unfortunately
@@theawfulangler my older brother was a GLOUCESTER player back in the 80,s/90,s
Real tough guys back then! They would have played on with their ribs poking out of their tops haha
@@theawfulangler 🤣
Lol! Right, the Ado da da doo do shit, is about to go viral and will get you shit loads more views. All you have to do is say "Ado da da do doo!" on your stream!
