Great video, and I really like how you show how simple/ basic fishing can be to get pleasure from. No doubt inspiring some of our youngsters to give it a go. I started when I was 10 fishing off North Shields fish quay, 7ft rod using spark plugs for weights. Here I am 47 years later still at it…..Like your style of video, laid back and easy viewing. Thanks and have a happy Christmas.
It's usually called Eastham Slab, even though it's probably closer to Bromborough. That must be the world's luckiest cod. Not many in size codling get put back!
That's the one, mate. I just try not to mention names of marks with limited space. Naming marks usually result in a load of backlash from locals in the comments
brilliant video as always mate, that were you fished is supposed to be a deep channel due to the boat activity many years ago/ has a look today myself ( fri 17.03 ) for future fishing looks a cracking mark. tight lines mark
Thanks Mark! Yeah I've since been told there's a couple muscle beds, not far off it, and you're right it is a deep channel. Cracking comfy winter spot for sure. Not sure what it would produce through summer though 🤔
@@theawfulangler going to give it a go this winter see what is out there, some decent fish come off the mark in winter so im told, think i would need some ladders to get over the fence though dont fancy getting stuck on the spikes, keep up the good work with the vids cheers for now

Best of luck mate, I've seen a couple of good reports from that spot this week since I fished it. I'd recommend pulling the casts in slightly, the long range rigs didn't do too well. That one cod was when I started keeping them in closer
Need to be fishing much further uptide if chucking out that far in an estuary under flood. Humber cod usually disappear when cold weather comes, shrimps move off the mud into the deeper channels and it's pretty common for the humber to die off in December.
I usually fish the Humber through December, give it a rest through January, and then move out on to the coast end of Feb/beginning of March. Still seeing plenty of catch reports coming out at the minute, but January always seems very quiet in my experience.
Nice one, I used to get some nice ones at Vale Park, wade out to a bank when it shows and then fish couple of hours down to low, not been for years though so might have changed.
I've watched a couple of UA-cam videos of that bank, fancy it myself, but it's one of those I wouldn't want to go alone for the first time at least. Spots like that are where it can get sketchy real quick if you don't know what you're doing
@@theawfulangler yea true, get a daylight tide first try, used to be safe enough but I couldn't say that now because not been, I mostly fished there because easy access from Wales, cafe in the park and you're just far enough from the nightlife to be left alone if fishing a late tide.
Thanks buddy! You get plenty of fish I could only dream of catching up here. I have friends on the islands, I'd love to come visit for bass and gilthead session!

Thanks John! I've been flipping back and forth between the hellrazor, the fury 450 or the 420. Think I've settled on another 420 to make a pair, then get the power tips for both! That could all change on the day though hahaha
I've given mine some stick in snags to see how it does and it holds its own. Like I say, I wouldn't want to put it against a big conger in rough ground... maybe that could be a test for it when I head over to Wales in a couple of weeks 🤔
As always Good effort bud 👍 I have never ventured up that way before. I have just got back from the Bristol channel fished 2 tides down there afew good ray about no cod Theo for me anyway.. if you fancy a trip down there for a ray let us know. Cheers
I had some of my best fishing ever several miles from here on Bromborough wall but unfortunately Peel holdings and McTays the boat builders closed the whole area off a few years back. I had a 6lb cod and a 12lbs Thorney such a shame another great mark lost
Yeah, I wanted to fish the wall, but like you say, it's all closed off. I think it's still possible to fish it if you get the correct permissions or invites.
No way I fish off of that old coal Dock all the time, there's good muscle beds straight out off the other end of the Dock!!! I've had 5lb cod off there!!!
I flipped back and forth on which end to fish when I got there. On the other end the channel clearly split, so I decided to go to the this end. I'll know now for next time Andy 👍🏼
I did have that Cod on the ebb, but a few have messaged to say the start of the flood is the best time. I know the ebb is popular, but I have always done better on any river on the flood.
fished the mersey all my life . got a hell of a lot better over the last 10 years or so . when i was a kid the fish where covered in ulcers the lot . the best marks no1 . fort perch rock ( low tide ) 2 down 2 up no2 . otterspool no3 woodside no4 . seacome ferry
Yeah, I've heard a similar story of anglers that I talk to on the Mersey. Otterspool is a mark that I've never done much good at, but I'll persevere! Having said that I've not had anything to really shout about off Perch either but I'm keen to try it through summer!
It has its pros and cons mate. Pros - It's great in weedy conditions as there's no knot to get tangled on. You don't have to worry about any knots giving out either. I use Whiplash, so it's relatively thin stuff, but thicker braids can get caught up in the wind and reduce casting distance. Cons - there's zero give in the braid, which means in bigger seas, either the rod tip bounces around like oneo, or the lead gets pulled out quickly. Also when you get snagged up it's a nail biter as to what gives out first. I've snapped swivels and sheared 4/0 hooks before the braid gives out.
@@theawfulangler i got distracted in the local tackle shop yesterday and got a spool of 65lb fire line I think its called. Testing it out as we speak, had a rattle that almost took the tripod down from about a one pound bass
