    Dude! You make this look super easy. My alternator just went out a few days ago. Going to give it a go after watching this video. Having the bolt sizes was very helpful too!

    Thanks to you, I was able to change the alternator in my wife's 2003 Bonneville myself - I'm not a mechanic. Just finished it five minutes ago. Works perfectly. THANKS!

    Thank you for this video...shops around me wanted around $600 to replace the alternator and serpentine belt. Did mine with your help for under 200!

    so... a 10mm socket, 13mm socket, 15mm socket, 15mm wrench, and a 6" extension will make everything pretty easy. Good to know, thanks for the video!!

    What and excellent step-by-step instruction for removing the Alternator. Excellent job and thank you for making it so easy. I'm hoping the replacement will take care of my electrical problems that are affecting my transmission bucking!!! Do you you any issues (video instruction) for working on the ECM for this vehicle?

    You said you could use a ratchet as well to get the belt off, does the tool you used mainly make it easier to work in the space or release tension easier or is it fairly simple to use a ratchet as well?

    • @InitechAuto
      @InitechAuto  9 років тому

      +Don Rhodes The tool is long so it gives lots of leverage. But you can use your longest ratchet you have and add a cheater pipe to it if you need more leverage. The tool I used in the video is a one piece design. There are others that have a two piece design that allow for working with angles. The tool just makes it easy.

      +Carlos Cuadra Alright so I changed it out. I was having issues with starting it and getting electical system failure. Anytime I got that heat or air would cut out and lights dim. Started it and get a loud whaning noise from alternator, so that is why I changed it. Battery had drained so I jumped it and when it started I still got the whaning sound. Could it be a bad pulley or could I have not aligned the belt right? It's not a squeak but the whaning.

    • @InitechAuto
      @InitechAuto  9 років тому

      Check your pulley and water pump. The water pump pulley should not wobble at all. Look at everything closely. From what your describing it's going to be some thing that is driven by the belt. Another thing you can try is to take the belt off and run the engine with the belt off. See if the sound goes away.

    • @donrhodes6397
      @donrhodes6397 9 років тому

      +Carlos Cuadra Whichever pulley is at the bottom closest to the firewall looks to have a slight wobble to it. I loosened the tension on the belt and retightened it and that lessened the noise. Which pulley would that be that I described?

    • @InitechAuto
      @InitechAuto  9 років тому

      That is your power steering pulley. I doubt that is your problem. The pulleys I would look at are just below the alternator. Idler, water pump pulleys and the one down to the right is the air conditioner pulley Look at the video at 9:36
      There is a pulley illustration.
      Also make sure you have p/s fluid in the power steering pump. It will make noise if the fluid level is low.

      It's a serpentine belt removal tool.

    nicoya, i need help..
    idk where is my starter on my grand prix gt 2004.
    can u tell me where is it?

    • @InitechAuto
      @InitechAuto  7 років тому

      Its on the front side of your engine. (Towards the radiator fan). Under the exhaust manifold.
      Here are the steps to remove the starter.
      Disconnect the negative battery cable.
      Raise and support the vehicle.
      Remove the front lower air deflector panel.
      Remove the torque converter covers.
      Remove the starter solenoid S terminal nut and remove the starter solenoid wire from the starter motor.
      Remove the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut and remove the positive battery cable from the starter motor.
      Remove the starter bolts and the starter motor.
      Good Luck!

    It’s easy to get off but putting it back on is a struggle

  • @InitechAuto
    @InitechAuto  10 років тому +1

    Robert Crenshaw,
    Yes there is a lot of tension on the idler pulley. This is normal. Sometimes the belt will fall off some of the other pulleys. Just make sure you put the belt back on them and make sure they are aligned.
    And yes, California is all messed up with these liberals..but it's still a good place to live.
