Featuring a 2010 Release Series 7.0
Buckle up, put down the phone, enjoy the drive!
I have an '08 Scion XB and I absolutely love it! Fun fact these are incredibly easy and fun to modify and upgrade and I mean in good practical ways. For example you can replace the windshield wiper steering wheel stalk with one out of a Prius and you'll gain more steps for intermittent wipers. You can replace the window door controls on the driver side with some out of a Tundra and gain single touch all up and all down windows! It's just such a nice and fun car that is super practical and easy to drive in cities.
"Fun to drive and useful," sums it up. I call it my mini-mini van. It's a tin can, uses about a quart of oil between 3K changes, but has a strong engine and is fun to drive. Highway mileage depends on the wind. I recently got 38mpg with the cruise set at 68 with a 15mph tailwind. Return trip into that wind saw the mileage drop to 31mpg. Anytime you cruise at speeds over 70 you'll be flirting with sub-30mpg. It has a great HVAC system. There is absolutely no drag on power when using the A/C. I've had my 2010 manual for nine years, and apart from the airbag recall I have never had a mechanical issue. I'm keeping an eye on oil consumption. I put 5 ounces of Seafoam in the crankcase 500 miles before changing the oil. I run 5w30 Castrol blend. Fingers ars crossed, but with the cost and complexity of new cars I may have the engine overhauled if consumption gets worse.
This is priceless. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with this truly underrated "mini-mini van" =-)
Getting 1 for sure.
I got one in high school and initially wasn’t a huge fan of it, but it’s since grown on me over the years. Does everything I need. With the back seats folded down it becomes a box van and holds so much stuff. Mine isn’t as feature full as yours but most things still apply.
I love my 15 with manual transmission. Its fun, simple, cool looking, versatile, reliable as can be! There is cabs in my area with 350k plus. One had 500k with a few rebuilds.
I hav a ‘14. I WISH it were a standard!! That’s a dream of mine. As fun as it already is to drive, that’d make it peak! 👏
I drove four and a half hours to get #741 of the 8.0 Release Series and I love it. Factory sun roof!
And those sun roofs are HUGE! Reminds me of a panoramic kind (a little), but seem way bigger cuz the car’s so wide & long. LOVE mine. I have 2😂
@@CajunMamma72 2 8.0s??? And for sure, it amazes me and everybody that sees the car that xBs didn't come standard with a sunroof.
@@SethPeteroyeah, my son’s is #108 of 2011 release. I cherish that car. He loves it too. I ended up getting me a regular old 2014 in 22 with 40K miles bc I liked his so much! We’re a 2xB fam now😅
@talexander731-j2w Oh awesome! Yeah, we've had several Scions and they've all been fantastic cars. Your son is very lucky to have an 8.0. 😄 I bought mine at 122K, so just broken in. 😆
@@SethPeterooh, no, just one 2.0, 2 xB’s. My son’s is the fun one😊
I got my 2 years ago and love it fun to drive 🚗 and it's 5 speed manual ❤
SO JEALOUS u have a manual!! My 1 regret since they’re SO fun to drive anyway, a stick would turn it to 11!! Congrats!
They are so underrated. Even the first gen.
I have a 2012 9.0 RS with no oil consumption issues. Its fun as can be. And snappy. The Corolla has the 1.8 motor.
some corolla models got the 2.4
@@jimbrow83 True.
I have a 2015 and it is the best car I have ever had. High tech into an everyday city driver . Some genius designed this car that has made this car so simple and livable for the driver and passengers. A world class car nobody talks about.
yes, absolutely world class.
Love the Murasaki! You're spot on with your list, especially about the practicality. I've had my 2015 since new, and its been extremely reliable, fun to mod, and overall, just a great car to own and enjoy.
Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching! These cars really are total gems.
Love those cars I wished they can comeback
Love my own 2010 xB
It’s an absolutely great lil toaster
Yessss!! Me too!! Toaster life!
I got 2009 on Roto wheels limited release 6.0, love it 199,99 miles and counting. Yes burns oil fast
I have a 2011 XB and I've come to really like it in the 4 years I've owned it. I was initially "meh" on the styling, but the car has grown on me for the reasons mentioned. The car is just so well thought-out and well executed in it's design. So far 130,000+ miles and no noted oil consumption (had documented oil changes and I only use high detergent synthetic and change oil religiously).
The only think I'd consider giving it up for would be a (non-existent) PHEV version of this same car.
I think the oil consumption problem was with the 2009/2010 models and earlier. I believe your model year is not affected by that issue. I would hold on to the XB as long as you can. its hard to find simple, reliable, well designed cars like the XB anymore. I kinda regret selling mine.. and if i ever get room for three cars, my next purchase would be a 2012 XB as a daily driver. Happy motoring!
Best car to drive 😊 bought a 2008 brand new when it came out had it for 12 years sadly lost it in a wreck. I was fortunate enough to purchase a 2014 recently. If you can find one definitely a great buy.
i have a 2012 and agree with everything you said except the visibility part - I mean the front is awesome but towards the back, specifically called A-pillar kinda blocks a bit when reversing but this is minor though and I love everything about it as well. I love it for its compactness and yet so spacious; I wish car manufacturers would produce more boxy looking cars vs SUVs with slanted roofs; I guess people love the styling more than practicality
I've been using my father-in-law's 2009 xB for the past year and a half and have come to the conclusion that we are now the long term caretakers/eventual owners of it. Every time I have tried to return it he tells me to keep it, now he's at the point where he shouldn't be driving anymore. It is a quirky little car. I love it's simplicity, seating position (feels like I'm driving a shrunk down Econo-line), awesome headroom, ease of entry/exit, backseat legroom and surprising peppiness. Dislike the visibility, I have a hard time with blind spots where those huge pillars are on the rear corners. Also, I can't see stop lights if I'm first in line. It's my FIL's favorite car he's ever had so I feel some responsibility to care for it and keep it for him. I'm making a few quality of life improvements to it, like swapping in a modern head unit with CarPlay, a back up camera, and a roof rack. I expect we'll have it for many years to come.
Awesome purchase GTyar. My friend had one of those cars and it was a very good car. Good to see your content Sir...👍👍👍
Still have my RS7. Purchased it new with 1 mile on it. Also have a 1st gen RS2 that I got new with 3 miles on it.
I have 2 too!! ‘11 release-like the blue one next to his in the video & a silver’14. I’d have a 1st gen if I could! Toaster love❤
I own a 2010 Scion xB silver like yours, and it has been the very best of cars to own. Everything you highlighted is precisely in line with my own assessments. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! these really are total gems, very underrated and a joy to drive!
Thanks so much for this video! There’s a whole xB subculture out there if you look. Reddit has some. & my sons 2011 release like the one you were parked by was #108 & we saw a girl driving it & kinda geeked out, then months later, my son was driving at college with windows down, sunroof open & 3 girls his age pointed & squealed “THAT’S YOUR CAR!” Their friend was the one we’d seen earlier in the year. Finally caught up with her & her number was exactly 50 after my son’s-#158, in a town on 90k people. So cool. Yeah, I couldn’t take his so I got my own 2014 so we’re a 2 xB fam now. Plan on keeping it forever! Thx again for the great video!! Buy another toaster!!😂
Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your story! I absolutely plan on buying another xb once i have the room for a third vehicle. They truly are fantastic vehicles that are completely underrated!
Wowww super cool! I’ve seen over 15 of the 2,000 models so far including 15/2000!
I own 108 of 2000 form 2011 release in Vodoo blue (like the one next to him in the vid) supposedly they didn’t even make 2K that yr bc of the Taunami, but no confirmation on that. I feel like I own a moving piece of art/history. I absolutely LOVE that car. It’s actually my son’s. So I got me a2014 with 40k miles in ‘22. Only wish one of ‘em were a standard transmission. How fun would that be to drive?!!
I own a 2015 lifted Scion xB.
U heard it right. I turn this into a lifted application for our xB models. It’s 2” in the front and 2.5” in the rear, and 27.9” all terrain tires by Toyo - open country at3.
Made it more useful for weather conditions and it’s amazing. Snow was improving it a lot better than before stock form.
And rain, it was actually a lot more fun than I thought. It gave me much better confidence and made it more useful vehicle.
We have over 2K+ lifted xB members.
I made a liiiitle bit of a gas guzzler. And I’m not mad at that lol. My mpg and mph is 2 mph/mpg off. But once u get use to with mph app, u drive normal speed again.
Go check it out and see if ur interested of that.
I’m a very Scion cB fanatic, very useful, easy to maintain, fun to drive and fun to customize.
And I’ve been owning xB’s between 4 years owning 2011 and trade to 2015 for 8 years. So 12 years of owning xB. And one day. I want to own two more 2015 Scion xB.
One for lifted application, one for lower application, and one for stock form application but with simple aftermarket mods that looks like it should of came as a factory for stock form xB.
Been a fan of Scion and I will keep these cars for a very long time.
HOly moly! thats seriously awesome! thank you for sharing your mods, i had no idea there was such a large community for lifted scions!
@@gtyar4395heck yeah man. We even have a community for lifted Prius and they have an official website called off-road Prius. I was shocked seeing that. And I think that’s dope
There’s lots of lowered ones-my 2011 release blue kenstyle trim is so low my son scratches it on everything! But I LOVE that car so much that I got me a 2014 in ‘22 with 40k miles. Lots of toaster forums. Always fun people. & CRAZY mods! Saw a LIMO the other day!!
@@CajunMamma72 limo xB is a gem.
I would love to own two more xB2.5. For lifted, lowered, and stock form xB with simple mods 🤟🏼
About to get my Scion 2015 Xb
I have a 2015 lifted Scion xB. Making it more useful vehicle. 2” in the front and 2.5” in the rear, with 27.9” all terrain tires, using Toyo - open country at3. It handles well and the weather conditions such as rain and snow is amazing.
@@toyotabronysounds so fun!! Seen many lowered but never lifted.
That's awesome. I own the 2006 and I didn't lift or lower it but I live in the northeast so I went to a junkyard and got 4 extra scion rims and tires for 175$. I have 4 winter tires, and 4 regular continental tires for the summer. It absolutely eats the snow with the proper tires. Plus it's a standard, so more control, etc.
$175! Good thinkin’! (& jealous that you have a standard.) Congrats & enjoy it!
Love my gen 1 XB and looking to buy another for a family car. Considering the 2nd gen though…
Super helpful
Also your rs 7.0 is the only xB series to get that special dual center exit TRD exhaust system!
I honestly did not know this, Thank you Daveshadow! I seem to be learning something new about this neat car every week. Its become my favorite daily driver thus far. Park it anywhere, easy to get in and out of and still gets the right amount of attention at the gas station lol!
@@gtyar4395 yessirrr 🤩 love itt
YESSS, I LOVE that exhaust set up!! I feel like they all need a duel exhaust & love where they’re placed & the shiny chrome. Such a nice touch that others don’t have!
I too have a release series 7, a few upgrades added, and I have never loved a car so much. I wish I can keep it running the rest of my life
Amen buddy!! Same!
Watch for oil consumption. That is the big fault with these. I would check oil every fuel up.
Only and mostly for 2008-2010 models. Mines a 2015 with 80k miles. Bought it since brand new. And no oil burning issues. Change it every 5k miles.
Sure - issue occurs usually after 120k. 2008-2012 have the issue. That said changing the oil every 5 k will certainly help. 2015 the issue is almost non-existent so yours will be fine.
The 2005-06 are even better. 1NZ-FE A engine. Indestructible. Love them all, but the newer ones tend to burn a little oil..
I absolutely love my 2006 xb. And the SPACE.
Amazing for a snow belt car there's almost zero rust underneath.
I know right?! I was also impressed when I was checking this car out at the dealership. The car had spent its whole life on cape cod, so its even more amazing that the rust is so minimal. The sign of a well looked after vehicle. I totally lucked out. Thanks for watching!
I have a 2014 that now has 35K miles on it. Picked it up at end of model year and got a 2k rebate to boot. It has as much cargo space as a compact SUV..for about 18K..how much is a RAV4 going for these days..about 40 ? Hope to keep it for 20 years. I just keep it in cargo mode, with the rear seat folded down all the time.
I keep my 2014 like that too!! I got mine in ‘22 when I found one with 40K miles. Wasn’t cheap but she’s mine forever now❤ Love my “toaster!”
@@CajunMamma72 I had my car in for service the other week and the dealer gave me a 2024 RAV4 as a courtesy vehicle. It rides fine and all, but the angle of the windshields on new SUVs is ridiculous.
The glass is like inches away from your face..it's extremely claustrophobic. I like that you can reach forward and not even get close to touching it in the xB.
Japanese kei car - Daihatsu Taft looks a lot similar to this design
Your rs 7.0 xB also has the special Räzo weighted sport shift knob that says “xB rs 7.0”
Yes! feels very nice to rest my hand on. A small yet important detail.
You're getting about 8 mpg better than my 2013 xb. And mines a 5 speed
It must be the cool ground effects my XB had =-). I also drove it fairly gently. Thanks for watching Ed!
Lucky dog to have a standard!! Makes for an even MORE fun toaster drive!!
Keep up on your oil changes. They had major oil burning problems because Toyota didn’t build the pistons right
so this is where kia soul comes from
I just bought a 2011 this week, I didn't even know about the under rear seat storage. Thanks for pointing that out. I definitely got one because of the Toyota engine reliability, and it's a manual which seems quite rare for a daily driver. I thought it was too old of a car for Lyft/Uber, but I guess if you're driving it they don't mind. Gives me another option to make money.
It's really perfect for ride share type work. Easy to get in and out of and its just so reliable. Congrats on your acquisition! Also, very cool that you got the manual, that just makes the driving experience so much more engaging. Happy motoring and thanks for watching!
@@gtyar4395 the 2AZ-FE engines have known oil burning and head bolts issues but should last a good 400k miles if maintained well. I came from driving European hatchbacks and was tired of expensive parts.
Does Uber/lyft not have the 7 year old vehicle age cutoff anymore?
I don't know who sold that car to the dealership at 100k but you purchased a good, limited xB. xB's are already limited with a still on going demand. Keep the car.
They should've kept releasing this car as Toyota bB in the US.
I completely agree! It was an absolute Gem. Sadly I sold it not too long ago to buy the Z4... The draw of the convertible was too great!
How do u get almost 30 miles a gallon? I have one and it goes about 20 to 25.
I think its because I'm relatively gentle on the gas peddle all the time.
im looking at a 2010 with 163k for 4500 in nh. i had 2 rs models years ago 2011/14 both great cars i want another to do what your trying to do
I HAVE a 2011 RS! What number was yours! Mines 108. LOVE THAT CAR. it was from San Antonio.
hey mate i got one of these as well, can you do me a huge favor? can you tell me if when you turn your normal headlights on, are the parking lights i think (the ones closest to the grill on each side, mine happen to be orange bulbs) are on as well?
How’s that oil burn . They say that’s its achilles heel. How about yours, having that problem?
Have you ever seen another Murasaki purple rs 7.0 series before while in yours?!??
yes! There is one about 3 towns over from me, and when i saw it I actually squealed with delight! lolollll It was parked so i was unable to connect with the owner.
so you have a beautiful rare scion xb
whered u buy it from
Is 104k mile Scion Xb limited edition still worth to buy im just looking for a realible vehicle for my family.
at the right price, yes it is.
Hey GTyar, love the Scion xB. You and I have similar tastes in rides. I loved the Solstice (still want to get one of my own) and I love the practicality and simplicity of these xBs. #11 for your list - the ease of entry and exit on these. The front seats are right at hip-height, you don't really have to step up or step down to get in or out of them. It may not be a supercar or a high end luxury car, but it just makes daily life simple and hassle-free. There's big value in that that most people don't realize. Do some more videos on this if you can.
Absolutely the ease of entry and exit is so perfect on these cars. I would totally make a second video about that and some other features that are great but sadly i sold the Scion a couple weeks ago. I have a short video coming out soon about why, but It was the right time to move on from the magnificent purple wagon =-) Thank you for watching and for all your great feedback!
@@gtyar4395find ya another toaster!!!
What about oil consumption?
This model didn't have the oil burning issue.. thankfully.
@gtyar4395 what engine does it have, mine is 2012 2azfe burns oil like crazy..
29-30MPG?????? Bro I have a 2014 10.0 rs and I BARELY get 20 MPG right now!! WTF
I'm guessing how he drives is the biggest factor on top of no after market wheels/tires.
You must be speeding your rear off.
@@oreally8605mines a 2015 lifted Scion xB with 27.9” all terrain tires I’m supposed to get 20 mpg. And I get 2 mpg off by 18. And I drive daily normal speed.
You are likely driving abruptly and over 65 on the freeway.
I have a 2014 xb and I’m getting 19.7 mpg and I drive very conservative.
Scotty Kilmer said sth about 2.4L engine
I appreciate Scotty and i trust his advise... I feel that this engine is more reliable then he paints it. I think it has a lot to do with how well its maintained. Thanks for watching!
@@gtyar4395I agree with you on that.
YOUR STEERING WHEEL IS NOT ALIENED,
It's all bout the 1st gen. The newer ones suck ass.
Ive never driven the first gen, but i have consistently heard from owners that they are the best iteration of the XB. thanks for watching!
So dangerous. Poor ratings in crash tests. That was a deal breaker. Low power isn’t great. The door handles break. They are tinnier. But like later models, reliable.
@@djkenny1202 still, the 1st Gen is the way to go. Crash tests are for people that don't know how to drive and the look of those is all that matters, something that the 2nd gen fucked up horribly
@@kikimora4395 I disagree. I love the look of the 2.5, especially. They can get out of their own way, too. Zippy. More features. Quieter. Better Ride. People can hit “you”. The side impact in a first Gen is barely 3rd World standards.
@@djkenny1202 nope, they look like shit. If you are looking for a fast car get a WRX like I did. 1st Gen best daily ever. Looks amazing, beast gas mileage numbers and it goes slow so you see all the dub retards coming from a mile away. It's not a family car either.
Love this video and the cars and your thoughts the only thing is why remove the side skirts it completes the rs edition without it it’s missing peices! You’ve said how special these cars are so put the skirts back on! 🙏🏻🥹
I agree with you and I would have liked to keep the skirts on, but i took them off for 2 reasons. The passenger side skirt was heavily damaged by the previous owner, and here in Massachusetts the pot holes and general disrepair of the roads made driving a little tricky (i was scrapping them on a daily basis just doing my normal errands on normal roads) I loved the look they offered though, just wish the roads here were more forgiving. Thank you for the kind words about my content! I'm humbled.
