    I love my 05, been dumping money into that car and it’s getting more attention than my 18 sti, the feeling of riding it, the space, the zero blind spots, the reliability, the looks, the cool aftermarket parts, people won’t get it until they drive one.

    • @ExtremeDailyDrivers

      Visibility almost made the list. There are zero blind spots, especially with a Broadway mirror. Thanks for watching!

      I've had my '05 since new and hope to be able to drive it for the rest of my life or at least another 10 years. It only has 75K miles on it. Toyota is gradually discontinuing making parts for it, unfortunately, which is a concern.

    • @bullisht1443
      @bullisht1443 2 роки тому +2

      Man I wish I had money like u to dump into my xb. Mechanically it’s great and I picked up an 05 manual a couple years ago for 2.5k, but it looks like crap. Every auto shop wants at least 2k to fix up. Now my wife is making me sell it so we can get a new car.

    • @paulparoma
      @paulparoma 2 роки тому +8

      @@bullisht1443 Don't do it! Spend the money on fixing it up instead of buying a new car. You are sitting on a classic. There will never be another car like it.

    I agree but my top 5:
    1. Aesthetics (love how they looks especially lowered with some nice wheels) it's 100% a head turner!
    2. Reliability (it's a Toyota utility box, you can't go wrong)
    3. Space (It truly is the biggest little car)
    4. Car audio sound quality (It's like having a speaker box in a speaker box, the bass you get with a minimalistic setup is incomparable and I worked in the audio industry before)
    5. Driving experience (it's like driving a big rig box, the seating and steering wheel are setup in the most comfortable and natural way you can get)

    • @ExtremeDailyDrivers
      @ExtremeDailyDrivers  2 роки тому +1

      Very close to my list. I'm not an audiophile so the sound thing isn't a big deal to me. Thanks for watching and sharing your list!

      I never turn on the stereo and I don't care for the lowered look (I think the car is pretty low as is), but everything else is on my list, too. Every other car, no matter how big, feels like a submarine after the xB.

    I owned mine for 15 years now, and it's still going great! I love my Box, and I would never let go of it. My kids are now driving it, and they still think it's not as cool as I think it is. Once they are done driving it, and have their own cars, I'm taking it back from them. Reliable, fun to drive, very roomy, looks very unique, and just overall, a great platform. I first saw it when I was in Japan in the early 2000's, and was ecstatic when they announced that they gonna sell it here. Glad I got mine after. Keep the Toaster Tuesdays coming!

    That’s a great summary of the cool features of the box. For me, there’s nothing comparable to the drive. Feels sporty, fun, easy to drive, easy to park. It’s like the best go-cart ever made but still a highly functional vehicle. Some smart guy with bank should reintroduce them to the market!!

    Like you, I had a xB back in 2003, then bought a 2006 in 2018 as my choice for a daily driver. My wife just doesn’t understand, but I love driving this box. I only have 125k miles on it now (third owner), but it’s so spacious and reliable. In 2020 I amazed my wife when I packed it to the gills and drove it from Detroit to Florida. Got more sh!t in the box than in her larger Cadillac XT4. Ever since that trip we call it the Wunder Box. If the engine ever dies I’m thinking about converting to electric….never gonna let this little toaster go!

    It was great to see the return of Toaster Tuesday, even if only for three weeks. But all of your videos have been and will be great. I watched the ride in the Prelude last night, which I had never seen before. It dawned on me that the reason I enjoy your channel is because I can learn a lot, but also because of how you do the videos. You, and Kelli--i hoped I spelled that right--as well, are so genuine and enthusiastic. That really sets your channel apart. I hope-and suspect-other subscribers believe likewise. Regardless of the vehicle you are currently building, the information is valuable, but the passion you both exude is special. Thanks for all your efforts. Good luck and much success with the Jeep build. We'll be watching.

    Can't begin to say enough good things about these little beasts. Zero blind spots, room for five bales of hay (we have a horse) and just damn fun to drive. We owned a Corolla and a Camry for a while and while they were typical Toyota quality, they just didn't compare.

Had to replace rear wheel bearings, new ecu due to not charging, a/c compressor, rear hatch handle, fuel pump, alternator and a clutch job. So minimal maintenance, easy to get in and out and super convenient. Plus optimal space for a big stereo system 🤘 I love them. Funny story. When the first xB came out, (04) I was 11. I thought it was the most hilarious car ever. It was goofy looking but I loved. Every time I saw one when we were out, I would say "Look! xB!... I'm going to get me one." Fast forward to looking for cars in my early 20s, I can't find these things anywhere. They were either REALLY nice, or REALLY beat up when I did find them, and the nice ones would be swooped up almost instantly. A few years ago, I needed another car. Had some family members at a dealership and I get a phone call. "Hey, so we are at this dealership and guess what's here?" She picked me up, walk in and ask to look at the xB. "The what?... OH! You mean the toaster? Yea we actually just got that." Bought it on the spot. Funny how life works.
    I got a newfound appreciation for the car when I moved. 16 boxes. I got a total of 16 boxes in this car, and I'm talking good medium sized boxes. I moved everything myself aside from big stuff like bed frame, mattress, and two shelves.
    It has some problems, AC was out and dealership hid it, ended up having to get everything replaced, still nowhere near as cold as it used to be. It's got a minor evap leak, some minor rust, and the previous owner didn't take good care of it. It's automatic, which isn't a big deal, but I would love a manual. It's has it's quirks, but I still love it.

    I love my original 2004 Scion xB bought it for 3300 dollars have had it almost 3 years and have had just the starter go out that was major but still was easy to fix . The Scion xB came with 140,000 miles My number 1 reason for loving this vehicle honestly is because I love how easy it is to work on and how it gives me the confidence to do any job on it. So far I have installed the dash speakers, front door speakers, installed a double din 6 inch touch screen JVC Radio / CD player and Bluetooth compatible. Installed front headlights and light bulbs , also rear lights. A cold air intake came with it so I replaced the conical filter and the filter bypass valve. Have done a transmission and motor oil change. Still not done.

    Fell in love when I first got in one back in 08 from my wife’s dad( back when the wife and I were teenagers) . Today I’m finally driving one! Funny story- the box I drive today is the same one that her dad owned!

    Just bought my 81 year old mom a ‘05 with high mileage. I really enjoyed the drive delivering it . Although she missed her turbo Volvo wagon that lost its 3rd gear clutch pack, she’s warming up to this classic and is learning what makes them special. As a mechanic, the car is wonderful. If I could find a steal on a rust free 1st gen here in the Midwest, I would think seriously about getting it. Unique and special cars that can’t help but be practical and kind of badazz.

      That’s what I’m looking to do! Seriously need help - I drop $9k or wait? If mileage doesn’t matter, what does? $9k for 90k miles or $7k for 160k miles - both regularly maintained at Toyota dealership, one or two owners, no rust

    • @jessemcafee3460

      The prices are high but if it’s the right car, what’s the limit, out of principle. Anything else is expensive, too.

    I love my 2002 Scion XB. I purchased it 5 years ago for 3 grand. It had 99 thousand miles on it. The only thing wrong with it is the right hand, rear power window does not work. I don't care, I never ride in the back seat. I added a black plastic stone deflector on the hood. and left it alone. All I have done to it mechanically is change the oil. I like that it has a timing chain and not a belt. I do notice that it has a rather wide turning radius, and the 2003 models did not offer cruise control. Other than that, I have no complaints. I'm 6/3 and have plenty of room.

    Buying my first toaster tomorrow. The reliability and cargo space were the main reasons being a drummer. However, the after market for them means I’m buying one that the previous owner modded out beautifully. I can’t wait.

    I agree! I love my Scion xB 2010, amazingly reliable. The only issue other than expected maintenance is that the clutch fork bent twice. Eventually we hired a guy to build us a beefier fork and haven't had an issue since.

    Heck yeah man, the box kicks ass! Funny thing that I kinda see the xb as a modern VW bug. The beetle was in production for a really long time as opposed to the xb but I see a lot of box fans in car culture and both the bug and box brought something new in a small package to the auto world, only the box has a hella better back seat for back seat happenings! Good vid Brandon but you didn't mention that the box has a bunch of interchangeable parts with the xa, yaris and echo such as engine and tranny, wheel hub etc etc. Right on man, when we gonna see some stuff on the tank!?

    • @ExtremeDailyDrivers
      @ExtremeDailyDrivers  2 роки тому +1

      In my opinion, the Bug is exactly like the xB, but instead of designing a car with straight lines, they used curves and circles when designing the Bug. It's an absolute classic. They haven't made anything like it since. And to think for awhile VW weren't making Bugs!! Good points about the interchangeability with other cars, but it doesn't make my list because that works with lots of cars. Many of the parts on The Commander also match the Grand Cherokee so it's not uncommon. Videos will be coming on The Commander, but not for a minute. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

    I had bought a used 2006 Scion xB that was fixed up already. Had the spoiler, big muffler and especially loved how it purred like a kitten 100x louder.oh and it had an after market cold air intake. Sadly I lost it to repo. But I couldn't stop thinking of it. Then recently I was offered a loan to buy a small car to save on gas being I drove a V8 truck and without a doubt I got a 2006 scion xb. Yes it has defects here and there but that's as good as I could get and eventually I will fix it up to how the other car was if not better.

    I have a 2014 Scion iQ at just under $15K with 14K miles on the car, and I have had zero problems with it for 40,000 miles. I love my Scion.
    I almost got me the toaster xB, but I am happy with my littler iQ.
    Good, comfortable, no-nonsense seats. The controls are all easily visable.
    A lot of folks ask if my Scion is a Smartcar. Oh no, I tell them, I actually have room in the back to load my music gear, amp and all, and a big suitcase. It’s got a more powerful engine, and, I don’t have the expense of having to get it serviced by BMW.
    These cars are actually Toyotas. And, I wish Toyota would make these models under the Toyota name - and electrify ‘em.
