Great video Rich!! I am as amazed as you by Genevieve! Gets behind the baddest crossbow made, unfazed and makes a perfect and I mean perfect shot at 43 yards with a fixed 4 power scope! Impressive to say the least!
By the way, some tech specs for the Nitro 505. Cams have extra deep groove for thicker strings and cables. Strings and cables are considerably thicker than standard. Cams rotate 404 degrees. Draw length is 17”. Drawing strap has 2000 lb break force, as opposed to traditional 1000 lb. Limbs are beefed up and are 300 lbs in draw weight. Rail has micro track that has shown to increase string life more than 50 %. Draw weight with Accuslide is 5-7 lbs.
505 divided by 12 gives you a "Hit Before They Get" value of 42 yards. This is based on a deer's reaction time of 1/4 of a second. In 1/4 of a second the arrow is 42 yards down range. That much energy is somewhat terrifying. If something goes wrong, that string latch is going to be sailing off into the sunset.
Barry James, from Arkansas, 62 years old, 1st Crossbow at the age of 13 (1973). The beautiful thing about Crossbows is that I learn something new every year about them. I have been with Tenpoint for the last 18 years & travel doing many shows for them. I am amazed how far Technology has brought CB’s in the last 15 or so years & Tenpoint always brings the cutting edge of that technology every single year. I have helped sale many of the 505 models & each time I shoot one, the amazement grows. I have watched you for many years & although we may disagree on a few things, I enjoy the always honest evaluation that you give. I also respect your appreciation for the Scorpid brand but it has been Tenpoint/Wicked Ridge for me the last 18 years all the way. I have never nor will I ever belittle any other manufacture of CB’s. I shot/hunted with Excaliber for right at 20 years before Tenpoint. I always tell others don’t shoot a Brand of CB because everyone else is but it comes down to feel & confidence. You obviously have that feel, trust, & confidence with Scorpid & I applaud you for that. Thanks for putting out videos with your honest & personal views. I will stay with Tenpoint as I personally feel they are the Best in the industry but grateful that others have the freedom of choice. Anyone shooting & hunting with a CB should feel that their choice is the best. Keep up the good work, congrats on your Political Win, and here’s to a successful & safe upcoming season. Oh BTW, remind me to NEVER make your Daughter mad at me….😂😂.
😆 thanks for this, she is a heck of a shooter that's for sure, and I agree about how important free choice is when it comes to crossbows! That is what drives the consumer Market forward, that's for sure. Thanks and good luck out there and maybe we'll run into each other sometime!
Rich, Regarding Barry James post, you see a lot of TenPoint users talk about their positive experience with their crossbows. I know that Mr James says it’s not all about brand, it’s more about what suits the shooter. I agree with him. Still, I’ve heard many who have described having their TenPoints for many years and still going strong! Nobody can deny that sends a powerful message!
The punch of the arrow hitting the target is impressive! When I first purchased my 505 at a pro shop I practiced with it at their indoor range. Every time I fired at the target the other shooters on the line would laugh because of the crazy loudness of the punch!
Watching the new video on vacation! Hiked all day in Denali National Park. After vaca, time and energy going towards fall deer hunting. Thanks one eyed hunter for giving Rich and us the content!
Great video. I agree that stopping these super fast arrows is a problem. I went with SEVR Robusto broadheads. I insert the locking screw to lock the blades and then you can shoot them at your field pt. target. It is harder on the target though but at least I’m not ruining the fletching. I’ve had great success on deer too.
@keithhill I second your motion! Sever is probably the strongest broadhead on the market and it is a great call for the 505. Apparently the 505 is ready made for all those that appreciate shooting deer through a reinforced bunker. 😂
I was excited to see you made this video! As you may recall, I bought one of theses about a year ago. Smooth as silk and no discernible vibration during or after the shot. Mine has been extremely accurate. I recorded 521 fps with a 400 grain arrow. At 470 grains, I was still around 500 fps! I took a shot around 20 yards at my deer last year and as I mentioned, it sounded like a baseball bat to a tether ball. I was lucky to recover my arrow 40 yards behind the deer & there was no chance of seeing the arrow in flight. Not even with the bright green lighted nock. I have found that my Bigshot Extreme 500 target will stop one arrow & maybe two, but never three arrows to the same spot. Perhaps this crossbow would be best used from a tree stand or elevated position in order to give you the best chance at arrow recovery. All in all it has been a wonderful bow! My son now uses the R-10.
Ive hadmy Nitro 505 now for a few years, and i alsohad a heavier bolt built by John Smith a zombie Slayer thats 19" longand the Alpha Blaze lighted nock. Im using the new Sevr 1.75 mechanical 125 grain version. But the BigShot 650 Kinetic target will stop my bolts but im looking for their new bigshot 10X target thats an improved version. I know one thing these new rangefinding scopes are not needed, the Evo-X marksman elite is more than enoughscope for the Nitro holy cow.
@timothybird So going heavier with the custom arrow like you’re using may also help against over penetration? If that would be the trick I’m going heavier! I remember that you had some arrows over 500 grain with enough energy to stop tanks! What’s your thoughts?
@@douglasborgaro6801 im not looking for any more penetration by going heavier, the 505 has plenty of kinetic energy to spare, its not starved by any means, i wae mote interested in gaining more accuracy than I already enjoy. Getting a more forgiving bolt, im still on the original string and cables on my nitro 505, i always keep track of its ATA specs, havent had to add twist in anything, timing is good no cam lean, im actually surprised how great its staying in tolerences a year later. You hear bad luck stories on every bow model , brand by someone who makes bad snap jusgements, i pride myself in keeping all my equipment in top form and efficiency.
Its time for wildlife agencies to consider the extreme increase in lethality this technology permits, and adjust the seasons accordingly. The proverbial genie is out of the bottle, and there is no putting him back in after crossbows became legal in PA, however considering the latest harvest statistics, its hard to argue crossguns are on par with vertical bows.
@@Deathbybunjie I’m not a crossbow hunter but being from PA I do enjoy your content so that’s why I’m here. They’re legal and here to stay, but hopefully our Game Commission will do something proactive with that harvest data.
The way I’m seeing it, there is a higherarchy of crossbows in the market these days. The elite crossbows are built with high grade materials and custom care. The others can also be great, but are generally built more with economy in mind. The “big five” as it were include: TenPoint, Ravin, Scorpyd, Mission and Excalibur. (Not In any particular order.) The other crossbows are extremely effective as well and will take big game with impunity and get you started in crossbow hunting. Not everyone that drives a car needs to drive a rolls Royce or Ferrari.
Rich, The reason I like to mention SWAT Broadheads to you is that it’s a combination of your two favorite heads! The front is a rage and the rear is a Swacker! What can I say, they work!
By the way, there’s a video out there of a hunter using a 505 to take a doe. The doe is looking directly at him, stomping her front leg and snorting. The shot was at 37 yards. That doe ducked lightening fast! The 505 hit with a double lung. The doe wasn’t fast enough! 😱
Hey Rich, I thought I heard One eye mention SWAT Moab broadheads! What a revelation! What does he find with those heads? SWAT has some very intricate designs! They are very accurate and they rip the crap out of the deer! Wounds are massive and devastating!
An other awesome video Rich! I shot my buddies Nitro not that long ago and I wish I hadn't because now I really want one and it is very expensive lol. Ten point is what I have been using for the last 3 seasons and I love them. Looking forward to the next video!
Hey Bungie as always thanks for another awesome video. Yes, using these TenPoint higher end crossbows, or any crossbow that shoots in the 400 fps plus range, one should definitely get a higher end target that is built for the kind of speed and kinetic energy that the arrows going to be producing. I have the Spyder No Speed Limit target. Their absolutely amazing targets and they can take shots in the same spot over and over and over again. If you haven’t already you should give them a gander.
@robertwhite One issue currently is that no one makes a target that completely controls the impact energy of the 505. At least not over successive shots. No issues with all other crossbows, but not the 505.
@@douglasborgaro6801 that depends on what application you’re using the Nitro 505. If your shooting field tips the Spyder will absolutely stop it. The Spyder No Speed Limit target is not a target that is supposed to be used with “BROADHEADS!” I understand that no target, at least to my knowledge, is impenetrable against shooting broadheads with the Nitro 505, however, there are ones such as this one I mentioned that will stop it with a field tip on your bolt. I have two big versions of the block target, and another foam target that I place down when I’m using broad heads, one behind the other when I’m shooting my Nitro 505. So three (3) targets all lined up one behind the other and it does well at stopping the bolts with broadheads on them. Yeah, it sucks having to buy 3, 4 targets, and it shouldn’t be like that, but we do what we have to.
@@keithharrold7262 yes I’ve ripped more than a couple off for sure. And as it is with much of TenPoints equipment they tell you to only shoot their arrows out of many of their high end crossbows. Well, the arrows aren’t cheap at all!!
This year Im changing up my broadheads, going with a VPA 200 grain single bevel. They're performing great w/ my Micro 360 and Bulldog 440 at a range, but the proof will be in the pudding. I dont want to risk a broadhead failure, moving away from broadheads w/ moving parts altogether on both the compounds and vertical bow
Thats pretty amazing. But not $3k amazing! My little KI Bone Collector 370 is going on it's 4th season and I have 0 problems killing deer. Lol I think I'll wait 10 years for the price to come down. Great review Rich, looking forward to CBAM!
I got the tenpoint vapor rs 470. Love it, its fast, waiting for my burris oracle x sight. Mine shoots high. I also getting some heavier arrows, more foc Hopely bringing it down .
@10robroe The 470 seems about perfect. I love my 505, but the power of it makes for additional challenges. Over penetration is a big issue. The 505 is a want, not a need. Don’t get me wrong I asked for it. I definitely got it. It’s a great bow, but if you get one, you will have to deal with the consequences.
As far as the Barnett catalog goes when I was 10 years old, I saw that one of the bows in the catalog had 250 lb limbs! I thought that was incredible! Some of that I remember very clearly to this day!
So I haven’t kept up on targets because I’ve been using the Bigshot extreme 500. One of the other posters mentioned it, but the Bigshot 10x HD is the first target I know of that was built for the 505. Finally!
Awesome shooting Rich & Genevieve! Great video too! I'm told that you can put some rail lube on the first six inches or so of the bolt and that it'll make it easier to remove from the target! I'm sure at this speed despite the noise a deer will not be able to "duck the string" at 30 yards!
Hey love the videos. From what I can gather we live in the same state. I’ve got some big deer on cam come down and get ‘em!! I’m getting my first crossbow after a massive surgery
Rich! Do you remember how obsessed I was with the Ravin R500? I like Ravin, let’s get that straight right out of the gate! I have an early model R-10, which has been a wonderful bow! I have an upgraded hawk scope on it which I love! The trigger on this early model is among the very best! About 2.5 lbs. it is different than the present models. I was laser focused on the R500 and I was set on getting one. As the information continued to come in I found that the R500 was having a lot of problems. Blown limbs, Nocks, strings and so forth. When the 505 appeared, I almost broke my neck reversing gears to research this. The 505 seemed to have all the issues taken care of. I went with the 505 and never looked back!
Ravin did not do well here, the 500 was rushed, they sent out several hundred before the internal recall was made by Velocity. They used cheap parts for max profit. When velocity stepped in thousands became on back order and they had to upgrade all the parts causing ravin to make a new crossbow the 500E they lost a lot of money because they had to sell for advertised prices over 400.00 went into the cam system alone for the 500E. Always be aware of a company that says they are a hunting bow only. Its a play on words from being a target bow only. It goes one way not the other.
I have a nitro 505 it makes my butt pucker sometimes when i get behind it but it shoots great and i can easly hunt out of a tree saddle with it. As an added bounus ten point is about an hour from my house so if i should ever need service it should be pretty fast.
FYI, Dave at Wyvern has a special edition TenPoint Siege RS420 that’s basically the same thing as the 505 with lighter limbs. It’s got your name written all over it, Rich! 😉
Great video! Watching many of your previous videos got me interested in crossbows. I try to go with the buy once cry once mentality. So I myself went with the nitro 505 with the Garmin. Love the package so far. Using the tenpoint bolts/arrows with 150 grain swhacker to get some foc. Bought it this past May and already have 2 woodchucks at 55 yards. Thanks for all the very helpful info!
@jasonbillings Oh my god! Woodchucks with a 505? Ha ha! I’d love to see that on UA-cam! I know someone that was getting 4” 3 shot groups at 150 yards with the 505. You can shoot them from a long ways!
I will say, the 505 is probably overkill with 3” swhacker broadheads but I can tell you they don’t make it back to their hole. Up to four chucks now. Sadly the downside to the 505 is every chuck destroys the arrow/bolt and broadhead. Hits the ground on exit and snaps in two. I can get an easy 3” group at 98 yards but I think the max range is 100 yards for the Garmin. Love the setup though
Question. If In the future they come out with a “crossbow” which uses electromagnets to launch a bolt(the bolt is a solid piece of metal to handle to force) say 750 FPS do you believe it should be allowed in ””Archery”” season?
You mean laser cannons? LOL I don't really care, as long as I can use my crossbow during every hunting season all year long. I don't care if they call it archery or something else.
I know you appreciate the tried, true and tested. I have absolute comfort with this bow. Yes, the saying is true, you get what you pay for! It’s like buying a Lamborghini. It’s built with superb quality! Custom made style. After all, you did like it, didn’t you? It’s really awesome! But it’s not for everyone. Excessive penetration, the need for broadheads that are durable enough to withstand the power and so on. This is like the Lamborghini! The feeling you experience when you shoulder it and fire it at the target is intoxicating! My 505 has been pinpoint accurate. Balance and handling are of the top tier, smoothness and no vibration are a fact & damn well they should be! Again I love my 505 and I’m proud to own one, but it is overpowered for about every big game animal on earth! I believe that you could have a complete pass through on a bull elk! As I have said, a speed war between manufacturers doesn’t seem to be as good of an idea as it seemed before. More power than this would not be of benefit. I believe that TenPoint has spoken the last word. At least a word that still makes some sense.
@dualthreatoutdoors I’m not so sure about that anymore. The 505 is so overpowered, it’s not even funny! In a textbook, the 505 is so flat shooting that you almost don’t need rangefinder scopes. It will penetrate big game with boring regularity and it doesn’t seem to matter what the distance is. All good things right? What about finding your arrow? What about preserving you arrow, or loosing your broadhead that you just spent $60 for a 3 pack? What about being able to practice in your back yard with a crossbow that will bust through your target and keep going? I do love the 505, but it’s an awful lot of a good thing. Going faster than the 505 seems to be even more of a challenge. Would there be buyers remorse?
@@douglasborgaro6801 I would just say make sure you have a good target. I’d rather occasionally lose a broadhead and arrow on a clean kill than get them back while not killing the deer
I'll put the Scorpyd up against the 10 point for longevity without wrenching. 🤪 Also put the Scorpyd up for wrenching without a press and a background on the bench. We have been through too many high performance 10 points that were not nearly this stressed out. We will pass. Jen just bought a Death Stalker with Dorges crank. I am betting her experience will be far better than her experience with these H.P. 10 points. 😉 Great video and great guy, allowing you to test it out. I will be happy to hear that I am wrong for his sake. Good guy. 🙂
@@chrisruzsa2798 I am not well my friend and Nobody needs that added to a good site/group. And you just keep that to yourself please. But thanks for the shout out. Donnie is the man for T&B. He can carry on just fine without me and why he is there. You all keep it up. :)
I love my Vengent S440. TenPoint makes a good product. To be honest I think 505fps is a little excessive for hunting deer but still pretty cool. One huge thing I can say from hunting with a TenPoint for a couple years now. Change your strings! As soon as they loosen up you will notice the groups opening up. Tight strings and timed cams are everything.
That’s just crazy. A pass through is a pass through. Where I hunt my arrows already get buried up to the fletching most of the time. And that’s with 290-300 fps. I’d have to bring a shovel to retrieve my arrows. Lol. I guess it’s good for long distance shots like out west and such.
@georgekeith I took a deer at around 20 yards with the 505. It was crazy! The sound of impact could be heard for a long ways. My arrow was about 40 yards behind the deer. I was thankful to find it. I don’t want single use arrows. Perhaps an elevated position or tree stand is the optimum position to shoot the 505 from.
Loved seeing this video. It’s always great to see another user on a crossbow. For me this one would not be what I want given the crank only and the clicking noises as you had to engage the slide for cranking. Just want something a little quieter for my style of hunting.
You make a good point that I did not mention in the video, and that is that the safety has an audible click to it, also. I am not a big fan of those for hunting purposes also!
Scored!!! The 505 takes a fat doe at 8 yards! The doe didn’t make it 9 yards and dropped dead. SWAT MOAB Broadhead. It busted one of the front shoulders near the joint and blasted through ribs on the offside. I was trying to angle it away from the guys. It worked, but the MOAB was toast! Quite frankly? I’ve seen deer shot with a rifle that go further! The deer was literally dead n less than 10 seconds! All hail Bunjie!
I'm still using the KI Swat X1. I love that bow, it's so accurate out to 110 yards. I reuse my target arrows to check zero and rezero. I don't shoot for entertainment, trying to keep my wear and tear down to what's absolutely necessary. However I've never had an arrow I've launched at or through a game animal be reusable. I'm running the 500grain nitro gold Tip at about $60+ a box of six with tax. The broadheads get mangled and you have to glue the lighted knocks so an additional $25 a broadhead minimum and $10 minimum a knock. Basically $45 a trigger pull if I do or don't take the animal down. Turkey, deer, bear, pronghorn and elk. So yeah it's expensive but I don't even rifle hunt anymore. If I can get to 100 yards I can take it home.
@@shadowdawg04 I do when I hunt TN. So do a lot of other people who hunt TN and other states with bean and corn fields. Check out Shawn from Hunters Instinct. I have had some open field shots like that in AZ and MO too. I also hunt thick timber in those states and most of those shots are 65 yards and under. I'm just saying that my bow is capable of that. If I can spot them and have time for a good shot, I will take it. Hopefully you will get some good shots this year.
That's cool, PSE is one of those companies you don't hear an awful lot about for some reason but they've been around for a long time making some great crossbows! Good luck out there!
The tenpoints just feel overall better and more solid than the majority of the bows on the market. Their wicked ridge line reminds me of the quality that Parker used to build in their crossbows. The tenpoints are a step above that. Let your daughter try a viper 430 or turbo s1 and i bet she'll fall in love with it over the Excalibur. Faster, far easier to cock and decock, and far more compact.
The thing I like is how flat it shoots. No thinking about aiming high or low out to 50 yards. Anyone know how flat a 400 grain arrow shoots at 415 fps?
I've posted before that I have the Vapor RS 470, which is not as fast as this one, but was their top of the line that was replaced by the 505. I didn't even think about it shooting thru a target and my first shot was on a cheap target I got for my vertical bow. I was able to find the arrow, but yeah it went right thru. So, at that point it was find new targets. I got the one that I believe your friend had on the right of the two, it stops my xbow no issues with field points. I went with broadheads from Sevr and by the way I really like those also, but they have a really nice "block/foam" target that is rated for these fast bows. DO NOT SHOOOT FIELD POINTS AT THAT TARGET!, unless you use arrow lube and have some good pullers... that being said, I can shoot broadheads at it and they are stopped in the first 4/6" .. and they pull super super easy. So, if you have a fast bow and are looking for a broadhead target, the Sevr one is pretty nice and has some really nice features to it also.
@keepsummersafe You mention some great points! Still, when you go beyond the 470 in speed it seems to make life more complicated. I have some friends that use the 470 and they can find targets that are up to the task. It’s just harder to find such targets with the 505, particularly with more than one shot at one bullseye. Many haven’t even figured out what broadheads are best at this point. Although many understand that SEVR is strong enough for anything. Broadheads that are not constructed with enough durability will become a mangled, single use mess with 505 speed. It all seems more complicated because many of the standards and gear that goes well with any other crossbow, will not necessarily go with the 505. I’m hoping for a target to be made that will stand up even better than the kinetic 650. With impact energy of up to 260+ ft lbs, I’m not even sure it’s possible to create an archery target that will cover it perfectly. Fingers crossed! I love fast crossbows and new technology, but with over penetration issues and such, I have no one to blame but myself. I asked for it. I love it but there should be a disclaimer. 😂
@@douglasborgaro6801 For sure. I've only had experience with the 470 so that is as far as I can speak. I will also admit that I intended to buy the 410, as I felt that was plenty fast.... but... at the time I was looking, TenPoint was running very good deals on the 470 to blow them out to make room for the 505. So... it was just too good a deal to pass up... the 470 was less than the 440 at the time. I love the speed but for sure there are some drawbacks. I used to like to watch my arrow to impact with my vertical bow, but with this... you can't see it... you pull the trigger and it's gone.
On the old slow Bunjie I shoot 563. On the newer faster Scorpyd, I shoot stock arrows. 442 total. I shoot Swhackers on both #251 150 gr 3" cut, oh yeah!
Here’s a quote from a 1993 book called: “Bow hunting big game” by Dan Dietrich, chapter 10 (working toward a silent hunt), pages 105-106: “An arrow fired from your bow at 250 fps (roughly one fourth the speed of sound) will reach a deer 30 yards away in .36 second. However, the sound of the arrow’s release will reach the deer in .08 second, leaving about .25 second or so for the deer to react. Researchers say that deer can react to an outside stimulus in .10 second or less. This gives the deer more than enough time to “jump the string”. However, if you could double the speed of your arrow to 500 fps, you would cut the time it takes the arrow to reach the deer in half (.18 second). Then, the arrow would arrive in the same amount of time that it would normally take for the deer to hear the shot and react to it. That doesn’t appear to be possible. It simply is not possible with current technology to accurately shoot a broadhead tipped arrow 500 fps at a target 30 yards away. Game, therefore, probably always will be able to hear the sound of the arrow’s release before it reaches the target. And game, therefore, will always have the opportunity to flinch or move or jump. A bow hunter might as well accept that fact and move on in his quest to quiet his hunt”
@@Deathbybunjie Impressive research on that video. I just saw it. I don’t know if mister Dan is still alive. But if he is and I could get in touch, I would send him this video. I think he’d be proud we finally got over the “impossible” 500 fps milestone 👍
I have the predecessor The 480 nitro I got it as a leftover but I've had so many problems with it I'm well over $3,000 into it now and I still am afraid to use it for hunting. I literally just emailed ten point today to see if there's slower cams available so it will stop eating up strings and cables on me. I really love the feel of the bow but I just don't trust it.
@@Deathbybunjie thanx for the fast Response Rich From one Fellow UA-camrian to another I run a Tech channel also like to hunt just picked up the Tenpoint Stealth 450 with the Oracle X holly expensive 🤪
I have seen in numerous chat rooms that some hunters continue to compare their 420, 450 or 470 fps crossbows with the 505. If 470 fps is good, 505 is better right? It’s in our nature to compare based on what we know. Truth is, it’s not true. When surpassing 500 fps there is no direct comparison. With the 470 fps crossbow I can still find numerous targets that will handle it. I can find the broadheads that will still function properly. Overall, I can still be reasonably assured that I will find my arrow every time. Not so with the 505! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love my 505 and I’m glad I have it! The truth is that there are consequences when you go this fast! Over penetration! It is what it is! My point is that going faster is not a good idea in the long run. The consequences will be more substantial. The market will decide and I will tell you I told you so. The 505 is the last realistic word in crossbow performance. The energy produced by the 505 is beyond what any big game hunter will ever need. I don’t look the same way at the idea of a speed war.
I agree that the difference between 505 and 450 is more than 55. However, to suggest it's the last word? There was some guy saying that about 300 not so long ago, LOL (and 350, and 400, and 450...) 😅
Rich, Yes, good point! After seeing what the 505 is, I understand the implications of a Pyrrhic victory. I wanted the 505 very badly! I am glad to have one! It is a great bow! But I want to help those after crossbow hunting has helped me.
Absolutely amazing these crossbows. I think One eye here also did the best thing upping the wight just enough that the grains meet the exact fps. With this sort of weapon there really is nothing to considerably test. What i mean is this is not a back yard plinker and hunting bow. It is strictly a hunting bow because you will just damage targets and bolts all the time after a while. And thats an expensive target. Basically with this figure out what you want to shoot and make it fly. Over one slug of momentum at ethical ranges you really have nothing to worry about at all. Sight in leave it alone go hunt. The cons with these new styles… i really hate the trigger unit being a part of the cocking cranking system. I really do not like that. But thats my preference to not have that.
@chrisruzsa Makes perfect sense to me of what you say about the crank system. Nonetheless, this system is not only simple, but smooth as the day is long. The good news is that you don’t have to discharge the bow at the end of the day without the game in front of you.
@@douglasborgaro6801 but that is the majority of crossbows. Compounds upped that game because that was one of the main reasons people bought excalibur and other recurve crossbows. Almost every crossbow now can be uncocked manually.
Consumer warning: Almost every time I look on Ravin chat groups, I am hearing and seeing photos of the R500 failing. Recently a Facebook poster wrote that he acquired an R500 and almost all of the responders advised him to take it back and thank them later. This was a Ravin chat group! Rich, you know that I’m not a Ravin hater. Of course, I have an R10. I constantly hear of problems. All models and makes can experience some problems with a random sampling of some crossbows. The regularity of complaints with the R500 is way beyond random gripes by what I have seen. Take note for what it’s worth. Do a lot of research before you drop the coin.
To go along with this I have a 400 fps crossbow. My single bevel 200 grain broadhead is super hard to get out but barely leaves a mark in the target My 150 grain mechanical ( that locks closed ) is super easy to come out but it pulls a ton of material out with it. When it comes to scopes my stock scope with my 150 grain head hits true With my 200 grain 20=20 30=20 40=60 In terms of the distance dots on the scope. So for that reason with my current scope I had to go back to the 150 grain mechanicals. I really wanted to like the single bevels I had. But I need a Burris to make it work. Otherwise for me it was unethical.
A strange experience: On a crossbow chat group, I saw someone selling a like-new 505. They had reportedly purchased it in October 2022, but stated, “I’m not a crossbow guy, going back to my compound.” I spoke with the poster briefly, and it was his first crossbow, but it was unclear how much he knew about it. It was also unclear that he ever shot a deer with it based on what he said. Strange! We all must dance to our own tune, but think about it. Your first crossbow, you dump $3000 into it. You likely never shoot a deer with it and then you sell it after less than a year and claim you’re not a “crossbow guy”. Very erratic! Is there more to this story? Who knows? Doesn’t really add up! The popularity of crossbows is undeniable and for good reason. We all must follow our heart and do what inspires us. You must admit, this is odd.
I just bought the KI Vital X after seeing your last video. I bought the 420 grain Dragon Claw arrows from Wyvern creations. Do you have any experience with them? The only thing I am not impressed with is the scope it comes with. It seems to just be able to get you kinda close at 30 and 40 for me with the stock KI arrows it comes with.
I have very little experience with Killer Instinct Scopes but I have never been impressed with them, but figured it was just my personal preference. We get used to certain things. As for those arrows I have not used them specifically but I would trust them 100%, I do like wyvern for sure and those Dragon claws are going to get Tried by the Bunjie family of crossbows at some point that's for sure!
The subject has been debated over and over again, but I must say that after shooting the 505 I can’t say that any manufacturer will go any further with speed. Sure, I could be wrong, but with the extreme level of power and speed, the question presents, is more power and speed better? Is a crossbow with more speed than the 505 practical? I am not really a devout follower of practicality. Hell, like many others I’m looking for performance! Still, after shooting the 505 I say absolutely not! I’m not trying to be a party pooper, but the 505 is capable of producing more energy at 70 yards than the R500 at point blank, when the right arrow is used. Unless you’re hunting in the Jurassic Park, there’s no real reason for any more power than what the 505 can produce. As Rich said, a problem can be over penetration. This is true! I’m not trying to discourage further advances in technology. By no means! It’s just the simple truth that the 505 is overpowered for almost any game in the world. When your arrow blows through a 50 yard archery target, or travels a half football field behind your deer, perhaps it gives one a bit of pause to ask the question; how much more do I need? This is a question of rhetorical nature, but think about it. I don’t believe I had this idea before purchasing the 505, but seeing is believing. Holy smokes! 😂
That is where I am torn, I don't necessarily want more penetration although I can always use a bigger broadhead! But I do want more speed, because getting the arrow there reduces the likelihood of deer jumping the strain. It increases the flatness of the trajectory. So it has advantages Beyond just penetration. It is a catch-22 though!
You know, Another question is equipment. The 505 will pound a dinner plate through a deer, but will that dinner plate be in tact once it hits? Only the strongest broadheads are necessary for the 505. All of the equations that hold true for 99 percent of other crossbows are suddenly different for the 505. The good news is, yes there are broadheads out there that are up to the task, but this is something to be aware of. The broadheads capable of 505 performance will likely not be the most economical. Nonetheless, you don’t buy a 505 with economy as a priority. Don’t get me wrong, I love my 505! It’s a smooth and great shooter! But when I speculate about a potential “speed war” between manufacturers, I don’t really think it works. These are things we have all asked for. Now that there is such a crossbow out there that can do what the 505 does, it may create a consumer vacuum, so to speak. I will use my 505 every year. More power than the 505 may just create multi-prong problems. This is a part of the catch-22.
Is this the new crossbow for death by Bunjie? Probably not. I don’t blame you! I love my 505, but it’s not for everyone. Just because it is the fastest and most powerful crossbow in existence doesn’t mean it is the best for everyone!
From time to time, I see some confusion that is created between some advertisers and posters in chat groups. It’s important for prospective 505 customers or perhaps new 505 owners to understand that products like targets, broadheads and so forth May work well with other “high speed” crossbows, but Do Not necessarily work with the 505. Some clarification would helpful to save a few people some grief.
My biggest gripe with TenPoint is their lack of a true anti dryfire system. You cannot fire a Barnett, Scorpyd or a new Excalibur without the arrow being fully seated on the string. Tenpoint you absolutely can. And you will be sending that bow back for repair. A $3000 bow that does not have equally the same amount of safety features some $300 Barnett has obviously missed the mark. 505fps or not.
@jennferro I guess this appears to be a bit of over simplification of the issue. It’s true that one must be precise with the use of such equipment and if you need service, you should be ready to PAY, but the 505 is extremely easy to use.
@douglasborgaro6801 Most other companies do not make you pay for any warranty work INCLUDING LABOR if the bow is shipped to the factory. If it is taken to a dealer, the customer pays for the labor costs, but the company reimburses the owner. Ten Point is lacking in many areas
Gotta burn my man card now ? LOL. Just got to 400 FPS (factory says ) I'm afraid to put the numbers in the chart considering our arrow is, well, kinda beefy.
@Deathbybunjie Hey rich. Well you got me. I just purchased a Ravin R500 with Burris oracle x on top. I haven't finished trying yet but I love this scope and it's capabilities. Holy Cow it's incredible. Love it so much that I bought a second one for my TenPoint Vapor rs470. And moved my sig BDX scope range finder combo to my Excalibur Matrix mega 405. Thanks for all your reviews
I get that some need the best and fastest..But with most companies making bows in the 400fps plus range that will take any whitetail...I will stick with my less expensive bow and spend money on better arrows and scope..,,Bunjie is a tried and true.
@racingruss Just because your bow doesn’t achieve 500 fps doesn’t mean that it’s not a wonderful bow that is capable of doing anything you need. I have a sickness, it’s called obsession. That’s why I wanted to try the 505. I also have a Ravin R-10 and it is an absolutely amazing bow. There are many times that I miss taking it with me hunting. My son uses it now. It is every bit as fantastic for many reasons. I will never give it up!
I'm sure you are saftey conscious but I must say it freaks me out that you're shooting from inside the garage out into the field. I would definitely set up right outside the door where you can be seen and you can see others. That way no one mistakenly walks around the corner and the unthinkable happens. You just never no who may show up unexpected.
Ohhhhhhh I did not say it would be accurate with any broadhead! I said it would put any broad head through anything. The accuracy is a different question haha. At these speeds I can only imagine what it takes to keep arrows and broadheads accurate!
@@Deathbybunjie Fair enough. I had to do my normal B.S. after such a long time of shutting up. 🤓 2023 has been a market debacle. Still ahead but it's taking all my time anymore. Glad I have enough time to see these videos. Thanks for being a trooper and getting them out there. I will see you again someday my friend. :)
@leveraction The 505 still needs to be matched with the right broadhead. The ones I picked without a ton of research were pinpoint accurate right out of the gate. Is that good? My concern initially was if they were strong enough to handle the impact speed.
Great video Rich!! I am as amazed as you by Genevieve! Gets behind the baddest crossbow made, unfazed and makes a perfect and I mean perfect shot at 43 yards with a fixed 4 power scope! Impressive to say the least!
Speaks highly of both her as a shooter but also that crossbow, thanks again as always!
I agree. She made a heck of a shot
She did a great shot. Even better than Rich here lol.
Rich,
Regarding Barry James post, you see a lot of TenPoint users talk about their positive experience with their crossbows. I know that Mr James says it’s not all about brand, it’s more about what suits the shooter. I agree with him.
Still, I’ve heard many who have described having their TenPoints for many years and still going strong! Nobody can deny that sends a powerful message!
That’s crazy fast. And the energy it creates is insane.
Loved the video, high quality and entertaining as always. Can’t wait for crossbow appreciation month 😃😃
I bet if you wrap a couple of those cargo straps around the outside of the targets it will compress it enough to stop those bolts .
@keithhill
I second your motion! Sever is probably the strongest broadhead on the market and it is a great call for the 505.
Apparently the 505 is ready made for all those that appreciate shooting deer through a reinforced bunker. 😂
Just remember to unlock them fir when you do go hunt.
Very impressive!! Man that girl can shoot!! Looked like a good time
Great video and keep up the great work
It may not be the new face of Death by Bunjie, but it sure is an awesome crossbow! It is a death ray on a stick.
@timothybird
So going heavier with the custom arrow like you’re using may also help against over penetration?
It's almost time brother!
Can’t help but laugh every time I hear “Death Stalker 420”.
I talk about genies in tomorrow's video LOL
And I've never argued they're on par, this is a crossbow channel, and crossbows are definitely better!
@@Deathbybunjie I’m not a crossbow hunter but being from PA I do enjoy your content so that’s why I’m here. They’re legal and here to stay, but hopefully our Game Commission will do something proactive with that harvest data.
@alexanderkosatschkow7228 I don't think there's any shortage of deer lol
The way I’m seeing it, there is a higherarchy of crossbows in the market these days. The elite crossbows are built with high grade materials and custom care. The others can also be great, but are generally built more with economy in mind.
The “big five” as it were include: TenPoint, Ravin, Scorpyd, Mission and Excalibur.
(Not In any particular order.)
The other crossbows are extremely effective as well and will take big game with impunity and get you started in crossbow hunting.
Not everyone that drives a car needs to drive a rolls Royce or Ferrari.
Rich,
The reason I like to mention SWAT Broadheads to you is that it’s a combination of your two favorite heads!
The front is a rage and the rear is a Swacker! What can I say, they work!
Okay, now you have my attention!
Pros one of the fastest Xbow's on earth Cons one of the most expensive Xbow's on earth.
great content thanks for posting ,cheers from Perth(australia)
By the way, there’s a video out there of a hunter using a 505 to take a doe. The doe is looking directly at him, stomping her front leg and snorting. The shot was at 37 yards. That doe ducked lightening fast! The 505 hit with a double lung. The doe wasn’t fast enough!
😱
Just up graded this year I bought a ten point viper 430 and it's very impressive
@robertwhite
One issue currently is that no one makes a target that completely controls the impact energy of the 505.
@robertwhite3752 Just curious about fletchings? Going through multiple targets will tear them off in a hurry.
I'm drooling now
😅
Great watch Rich . I'm passing on the 500 fps area also. That deer is gonna be plenty dead with the 407 fps I'm throwing down range
I got the tenpoint vapor rs 470. Love it, its fast, waiting for my burris oracle x sight. Mine shoots high. I also getting some heavier arrows, more foc Hopely bringing it down .
@10robroe
The 470 seems about perfect.
Wow I didn't realize they were doing that back then!
I took three deer with mine last year, they went down like I shot them with a magnum rifle !
@boomerrangerron
At 50 yards they can’t get out of the way!
Hey love the videos. From what I can gather we live in the same state. I’ve got some big deer on cam come down and get ‘em!! I’m getting my first crossbow after a massive surgery
Wow, good luck!
Impressive bow I'm thinking the Killer Instinct that you had the video on before is the one I'm leaning toward myself
I really like that one LOL
Yes I remember for sure! You and I were both focused on both of those!
@chrisruzsa2798 covid really messed up ravin's release too
I have a nitro 505 it makes my butt pucker sometimes when i get behind it but it shoots great and i can easly hunt out of a tree saddle with it.
That's interesting I will check it out
Great video!
Well that is great to hear! Putting it to good use, good deal. Good luck this fall, also!
@jasonbillings
Oh my god!
That thing is BLAZIN fast! Soon there will be a 550 or 555 and 500/505 will be the norm
@dualthreatoutdoors
I’m not so sure about that anymore.
@dualthreat
100% agreed!
I know that Bigshot is now making the 10X HD, which is made for the 505. Finally! I will switch from the Extreme 500.
I'll put the Scorpyd up against the 10 point for longevity without wrenching. 🤪 Also put the Scorpyd up for wrenching without a press and a background on the bench.

We will pass.

I thought about it, that's for sure
With crossbow appreciation starting in October, I'm hoping to already have a doe at the butcher since we start in September lol
Good plan good luck!
Yep I bet timing is crucial the faster these crossbows get!
So when does yours arrive at the house? Love my Huskemaw scope on my 380.
LOL tempted that's for sure
Important fact that you left out 10 point is manufactured and assembled in the good ole United States of America States of America 🇺🇸
$3050 MSRP, a little pricey for me. Plus, you're right about being limited by the extreme power in how close you can practice at and with broadheads.
@georgekeith
I took a deer at around 20 yards with the 505.
Just to be clear, it is possible to release the safety without the click.
Update:
So far so good! I’ve had the 505 for 2 years now and not a single problem. I’ve taken deer with it. Still Smooth like butter!
Great video. Just add something over your target to lessen the penatration. Some options are rubber, conveyor belting, leather, animal hide.
Not the guys! Angle away from the guts.
Saw pics on one post, great job congrats
You might have to use a homemade target -couple layers of feed bags stuffed with old jeans and such. Stops bolt very quickly and very easy to remove.
I really do like that crossbow!
Yeah but who gets to hunt open fields with little or no wind? Try it in timber...
I have a New PSE CROSSBOW and went to Halls Arrow in Manchester CT wow what a kick
That's cool, PSE is one of those companies you don't hear an awful lot about for some reason but they've been around for a long time making some great crossbows! Good luck out there!
The PSE Coalition Frontier
The tenpoints just feel overall better and more solid than the majority of the bows on the market. Their wicked ridge line reminds me of the quality that Parker used to build in their crossbows. The tenpoints are a step above that. Let your daughter try a viper 430 or turbo s1 and i bet she'll fall in love with it over the Excalibur. Faster, far easier to cock and decock, and far more compact.
He’s right.
Yeah it’s crazy that my Killer Instinct ripper 425 is blowing completely through a target rated for 525 fps. It’s crazy
Yeah, it is crazy, it takes a while I think for other parts of what we do to catch up with the crossbow speed
I’m sticking with the tried and true as well KI for me. Lol
@@groundrootsoutdoors627 I get that for sure, I have been thinking about that Killer Instinct X1 ever since I shot that also!
Elephant bow!!!! Lol!!! Gotta get a loan to buy that sucker!
Second mortgage lol I hear ya!
Buy it! Buy it! Buy it! Buy it!
Great tips, I really appreciate this as I learn more about these high speed crossbows!
@keepsummersafe
You mention some great points!
Really like the channel, my question is what weight do you shoot iam going 4:29 single bevel 200 grain head a vpa total weight 509
On the old slow Bunjie I shoot 563. On the newer faster Scorpyd, I shoot stock arrows. 442 total. I shoot Swhackers on both #251 150 gr 3" cut, oh yeah!
Oh, just in passing, the deer I hammered last year had lung material blown out the offside.

Hey quick question on the Burris Oracle X scope cover that’s on your gear site what size do I need ?
I chose medium... nice snug fit. Hope that helps!
@@Deathbybunjie thanx for the fast Response Rich From one Fellow UA-camrian to another I run a Tech channel also like to hunt just picked up the Tenpoint Stealth 450 with the Oracle X holly expensive 🤪
Good video Rich. I shoot a TenPoint Turbo S1. The accudraw cocking system cannot be beat.
There was some guy saying that about 300 not so long ago, LOL (and 350, and 400, and 450...) 😅
Rich,
Yes, good point!
@chrisruzsa
Makes perfect sense to me of what you say about the crank system.
Almost every crossbow now can be uncocked manually.
faster than a hummingbird's wing
Consumer warning:
Almost every time I look on Ravin chat groups, I am hearing and seeing photos of the R500 failing.
My single bevel 200 grain broadhead is super hard to get out but barely leaves a mark in the target
My 150 grain mechanical ( that locks closed ) is super easy to come out but it pulls a ton of material out with it.
When it comes to scopes my stock scope with my 150 grain head hits true
With my 200 grain
20=20
30=20
40=60
In terms of the distance dots on the scope. So for that reason with my current scope I had to go back to the 150 grain mechanicals.
I really wanted to like the single bevels I had. But I need a Burris to make it work. Otherwise for me it was unethical.
Wow that really is interesting, thanks for sharing. The birds does solve a lot of problems but too bad you have to go that route.
A strange experience:
On a crossbow chat group, I saw someone selling a like-new 505. They had reportedly purchased it in October 2022, but stated, “I’m not a crossbow guy, going back to my compound.”
I spoke with the poster briefly, and it was his first crossbow, but it was unclear how much he knew about it.
You must admit, this is odd.
groovy
What’s a good weight arrow for the 505?
500 probably travels 470fps
@@Deathbybunjie that’s intense!
Still, after shooting the 505
I say absolutely not!
You know,
Another question is equipment.
Awesome technology, and I love innovation; but I like the formula 400 grains x 400 fps inside 40 yards = dead deer
Yep, works for me!
No jumping the string on that buit. WOW I KNOW WHAT I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS
The safety sounded just as loud as my $300 crossbow. I suppose that makes me feel pretty good. I thought mine was loud because it was so inexpensive.
@ieatcaribou
You can silently take it off safe.
Some clarification would helpful to save a few people some grief.
my 425 is smooth...but idk if you need that much power..? let alone a 505
My biggest gripe with TenPoint is their lack of a true anti dryfire system.
Good point, but I beg to differ slightly: ua-cam.com/video/h6va-krCGjg/v-deo.html
@jennferro
I guess this appears to be a bit of over simplification of the issue. It’s true that one must be precise with the use of such equipment and if you need service, you should be ready to PAY, but the 505 is extremely easy to use.
@@Deathbybunjie forgot about that. I stand corrected, it is possible to dryfire a Scorpyd. Glad Bunjie III survived!

@douglasborgaro6801 Most other companies do not make you pay for any warranty work INCLUDING LABOR if the bow is shipped to the factory. If it is taken to a dealer, the customer pays for the labor costs, but the company reimburses the owner. Ten Point is lacking in many areas
I will stick with my mag 340 435 grains 310fps! Does what I need 35 yards and in I don’t need nothing this much
Gotta burn my man card now ? LOL. Just got to 400 FPS (factory says ) I'm afraid to put the numbers in the chart considering our arrow is, well, kinda beefy.

Broadheads- Blob targets.
Nothing beats those 2 targets PERIOD. NOTHING

I can 100% identify with what you're saying here
Bungie 4.0 perhaps
That safety is a real problem, so loud!!
Yep, I did not mention that but you can definitely tell in the video! I agree! I am not a fan of loud safeties, as you may know!
@madcaveman
It has not been a problem for me so far. With using caution, it has not created a lot of noise.
I get that some need the best and fastest..But with most companies making bows in the 400fps plus range that will take any whitetail...I will stick with my less expensive bow and spend money on better arrows and scope..,,Bunjie is a tried and true.
@racingruss
Just because your bow doesn’t achieve 500 fps doesn’t mean that it’s not a wonderful bow that is capable of doing anything you need.
Ahhh a good point
Very loud safety
Yep I noticed that too
Can shoot any broadhead? Lets see how accurate it is with a Simmons Tree Shark.🤣
Ohhhhhhh I did not say it would be accurate with any broadhead! I said it would put any broad head through anything. The accuracy is a different question haha. At these speeds I can only imagine what it takes to keep arrows and broadheads accurate!

The 505 still needs to be matched with the right broadhead. The ones I picked without a ton of research were pinpoint accurate right out of the gate. Is that good?
My concern initially was if they were strong enough to handle the impact speed.
This 505 is really impressive. But then I am not fan of any crank device. I'll stick to my DS LT and Tremor XP.
