- Pink Floyd Box Sets (Three Different Ones)
An overview of the three main CD box sets released by Pink Floyd:
- Shine On (1992)
- Oh By The Way (2007)
- Discovery (2011)
No adverts. All the box sets side by side. All the albums one by one. All the discs labels. All the booklets page by page. All the goodies, stickers, postcards, coasters, posters, etc. All commented and seasoned with unnecesary trivia. Apologies por any inaccuracies (linguistic, technical or floydean).
00:00 Introduction
01:38 Shine On
15:57 Oh By The Way
35:53 Discovery
58:15 Conclusion
If you are a 7-inch-single type of person, watch the Intro and then jump straight on to watch the Conclusion.
If you are a 10-inch-EP type of person, then just watch the section about the box set you are interested in.
Now, if you are a double-LP-opera-rock-concept-album type of person, watch the full HD 60+ minutes of pure obscene box set porn that this video is.
Enjoy!

Which box would you suggest for a beginner collector?
Discovery without a doubt. It's the easiest to find and has all the studio albums and all the lyrics.
@@lonestardiscs26 thanks, great video
If you are somebody who is fine spending time and money for collectables try to find the Dark Side Of The Moon Immersion Box with exchanged BluRay disc because all the Boxes came of this album came with a not working BluRay. But it was possible to get a working replacement. Only few owners did so.
Also the first issue of early or later years has an additional disc because they added a wrong one to all first issue boxes and added the correct one afterwards without removing the wrong disk.
@@lonestardiscs26 for some reason the comment in which I say that the discovery box has no collectable value got deleted twice and where I recommend what is really collectable regarding pink floyd - no interest in rewriting it...
@@befosocialI Got Deleted Cause It's 1000% Rubbish...The Discovery BoxSet Is A Splendid Lot To Have...I Plan To Purchase One...
The pun in the title made my day!
The title of this video is genius.
Pink Floyd Box Sets (Three Different Ones)? Oh you genius1
I love this its so fun (not even to mention the title😂)
The Splendid Thing About The Discovery Box Set Is That Each Album Can Be Purchased Separately...
This out of the 10 Floyd box sets i have is my favourite by far , the attention to detail is fantastic.
I got what you did there with the title. GJ
Thank you I need this! And your title really made my day
As someone who loves colors I love the designs of the shine on cds
Thanks for doing this video I’m glad to see the 3 compared. Not many do it this way.
Thanks for watching
Very nice!!!! I have the Shine On and Discovery boxsets, I wish I could get my hands on the OBTW box!
I love the box sets! and the video! thanks so much for posting. I'm a huge Pink Floyd and sadly I don't have the money to buy any of these.
You're welcome...thanks for watching
The Wired MAK make an offer that I can say no and put a smile on your face
Set all complete and mint shape
Including post cards the early pink Floid singles and catalog from a. To. Z All mint shape
Forgetting about they're magnificent mint 8 Albums on cd. 😞😀👋😕😊
I personally think the book, CD Stand and Early Singles CD (even though it is basically Relics with a different design) is the only reason to buy Shine On. When Oh By The Way and Discovery include all the albums by Pink Floyd (unlike Shine On which has the audacity to include A Momentary Lapse of Reason, but not Atom Heart Mother or Piper At The Gates of Dawn).
Also, Oh By The Way is freaking amazing.
Ben Allan they didn’t include piper due to then releasing a book set of the album
The Final Cut was also left out :(
Very articulate reviews.
Thank you!
Discovery's exterior's graphic design doesn't look up to Hipgnosis' PF standard. And no inner sleeves! -Those discs are scratched already.
I agree...Discovery as well as the new early days boxset are just keeping riding the gravy train
Did you buy the EARLY YEARS box? For me it's too expensive….and I read it's not perfect
The real Bob Klose?
No, I didn't buy the Early Years boxset. Not really worthy and way too expensive. I've listened to all the discs in Spotify though, and there are some very nice things like live versions of AHM, an early version of Echoes and a concert from the Man and the Journey tour. Haven't seen the video content but I guess by now it's all in youtube anyway.
There was also a Wall box set containing the first ten albums I believe. They were pressed in Holland with consecutive numbers.
Storm Thorgerson was such an excellent graphic designer. Most of that is his work. (Shine On, and the others. But I think Shine On is the most well made of them.)
I agree, Storm was the 5th floyd member all the way. I strongly recommend his book Mind Over Matter, about the artwork of Pink Floyd.
I think the coasters in Oh By the Way may have been meant to make the set harder to counterfeit.
clearly the coats :)
Yet There Are Still Counterfeit Sets Out There...I Almost Purchased One...Not Knowing It Was A Counterfeit At The Time...
My favorite albums from Pink Floyd
The Wall: 30:10 48:09
The Final Cut: 31:57 49:26
FYI: In the USA, the SHINE ON set was released by Columbia Records (Sony)... Not Capitol (EMI). 😉
Thanks for that! Have a good day.
@Sebastian I have Discovery and Oh By The Way and I like Discovery more.
@Sebastian That's a matter of taste. I also don't like the same boring images on Discovery CDs but I like similar sleeves for each album, I want a box set to keep some consistency. Oh By The Way replicates original vinyls but I don't want my CDs to look like vinyls, I better get vinyls in that case.
Also, some discs from Oh By The Way fall off when you take them out of the box, that's why you see in this video the guy has put them with different orientation.
And when if comes to the sound quality we probably all agree that the Discovery box set has the best remasters.
@Sebastian So one does not replace another. That's why it is good to own both.
shine on box set...25 years old
Hi! I liked your video. You show each boxset details, but i think that Discovery is the best boxset by far, cause it' s an improvement over the other ones. First: this have all the albums, second: the design its unique, specially done for this reissue. The Shine On hard cover book its nice, but there are so much Pink Floyd books...and Oh by the Way cd's are original replicas. Nice too, but I prefer my vinyl copies. So, definitively, my vote goes to Discovery boxset.
Oh, by the way isn't as good because you have all the vinyl's? Whatever. What about me?
Unless He Already Opened Each Individual Album~The Discovery BoxSet Is A Counterfeit...In The Authentic Lot~Each Album Is ShrinkWrapped...
Why did the "shine on" boxset only feature some of the studio albums but now all I wonder?
Please someone can tell me why On Shine box has not complete discography? Why It s not include Piper and Final cut? I dont undeestand. Thanks a lot for a reply

SUBLIME
I like the look of the Oh By the Way set but its so hard to find one that isn't a Chinese knockoff
That is true, although there re some tips to avoid counterfeits. For example, I believe none of the counterfeits includes de WYWH album in the re-sealable black plastic bag.
Lonely Star Discs Yeah, but you’d never be able to tell if you want it still in the shrink wrap like me.
@@VantasticK I recently got a sealed version from Ebay. It is not hard to spot the fake one by just looking at the images of a sealed box. www.elisanet.fi/soininen/PINK_FLOYD_Oh_by_the_Way_COUNTERFEIT.html - check this link.
Where are you from? I like your accent.
Republic of Patagonia ;)
Nice!
Chile o Argentina? Tenís todo el acento chileno, pero a lo mejor me equivoco!

I Think Oh, By The Way Is Neater.
uawww
indeed
I cannot stand watching you shove the cd with the open end up, instead it would go in smoother if you pushed the round end first and leave the open end facing out like the cover. Please, that way it will not crinkle.... However thank you for sharing, it was good information.
You do that to reduce the risk of dust etc getting inside the bag. Leave the open end exposed and it leaves the disc prone to ingress of all sorts of debris. You do the same with vinyl. Put the record in the inner sleeve then put that in the cover open end uppermost, then slide the open end of the cover into your outer plastic protective cover to further reduce the risk of dirt. Yes, CDs are less prone than vinyl, but good practice doesn't do any harm. The package design is the fault in this case. I have Oh by the Way and the discs are a pig to get out let alone put back!
PRECISELY...Nor Can I...
THE DISCOVERY BOX SET IT'S DEFINITELY FAKE !!!
Why?
PRECISELY...One Of The MANY OBVIOUS Ways To Tell That It's A Counterfeit Rubbish Set Is That They're Not ShrinkWrapped...Each Album Is ShrinkWrapped On The Genuine Set...

LOL you utterly failing to put the CD holder together.
