    The most underrated member of Floyd. His signature timing and groove laid down the back bone of all those great songs, and let's not forget his swag, by far the most free spirited of the band.

    Nick Mason is my favorite drummer. He's not technically proficient but it's his slightly behind the beat drumming that hypnotizes you when you are listening to the Floyd. Waters gives tone to those drum patterns while Rick and David play on and around it with melancholic riffs and melodies. Those elements Waters deep, cynical, angry and philosophical lyrics is the essence of Pink Floyd.

      I agree, drums drive the song. When I make something up, I always start with a drum pattern. Just a slight deviation can change the out-come. Most professionals probably have some riff or progression to start with. Long live PINK FLOYD.......

    What makes Mason and Pink Floyd so great is that they never over do anything. Everything feels like it was meant to be there. His drum playing is what the song needed. Its not flashy and over the top. Ok, there are a few times like Saucer and stuff early on but it was what the song needed. This group of musicians (GROUP, something Roger forgot) will go down in history as some of the best to ever live.

    I see that this set has not only the music from The Committee, but also the film, as well as La Vallee and More on DVD/Blu Ray. Worth it almost just for those to get quality sound since the ones posted on UA-cam are low quality audio. After hearing the Complete Zabriskie Point Sessions, I wonder if there's any lost music from these other movies. I'm sure it's equally as awesome. Thanks Nick!!

    Revisiting this and I wanna say that full footage does exist of Pink Floyd performing The Wall, Roger discovered after Steve O Rourke died the camera guys just kept rolling and caught the entire show or shows, and before Roger went out in 2010 he had it transferred and cleaned up and edited together to show his Wall band. So it does exist.

    Nick.- work hard (in ya retirement?) with / persuade the others to get those 77 'In the Flesh' live sets out: - it's known that it exists in "high quality" since way back at the time of the immersion sets rip offs (sorry, I mean re-issues) 'Vernon Fitch' revealed/ was quoted to have confirmed (in UNCUT magazine interview WITH YOU, Oct '11)so that fans and newbies could finally here the superbly extended reordered Animals sets plus WYWH in which both David's but especially Rick's playing is exquisite on the last ever gig

    • @BOFsensai
      @BOFsensai 4 роки тому

      The encore ('Blues' - Nick still playing down to the snare drum) to the last ever '77 'in the flesh' gig (Montreal, Canada) has now turned up (4.20) in 'soundboard' (like) - nakamichi tape? - quality = ua-cam.com/video/Tz_QC4EY1S8/v-deo.html&start_radio=1&t=5857 : so, someone / somewhere 'out there' has it 'available' = come on three guys left - get it out before many earlier fans have their own 'great gig' coming ..

    Why isn't the actual song Sea Birds included? The instrumental that's called Sea Birds here is actually just another Quicksilver-type mood piece- not the (rather good) Roger Waters song...

    • @EaSTihR

      Lost recording notwithstanding... there is no way that Nick nor anyone else involved in the compiling of material for TEY could have been unaware of the countless bootlegs with "Seabirds" appearing as a DVD-CDR transfer (with the movie dialogue) on them. Don't get me wrong - I have a second bedroom to house my Floyd collection so I'd have bought TEY box if it had been a 12-disc John Latham box (with isolated tracks etc), but when I read the track listing and saw "Seabirds" listed as part of the More movie outtakes, my eyes bulged out like a 1940's cartoon character... upon unboxing, I went straight to the 1969 volume, pulled out CD 1, skipped to track 4 and heard (basically) an alternative version of Quicksilver. Scanned through/listened to both 1969 discs three times before resigning myself to two cold, hard facts: 1) If Seabirds had been my sole motivation for the purchase, I'd have been rooked... 2) Seabirds and the alternate Cymbaline are truly lost forever :(

    At least 90% of the entire Wall album from the Earls Court Gigs in 79 is available already on UA-cam. It's obviously bootleg but quite clearly taken from professionally filmed multi camera stock with perfectly acceptable sound. I wonder if Mason thinks less of the show was filmed than there actually was in reality? There's also film of at least some songs from the American Wall shows available on UA-cam. I'm sure this could all be cleaned up quite easily and professionally released as the complete (or nearly complete) show, if the Floyd Co wanted to do this at some point.

      Waters won’t release it because of him still doing wall tours, he has the footage from Earl’s Court and has sat on it for years, I have audio of that full show and it’s a perfect soundboard recording that doesn’t really need anything doing to it, it’s a pity he won’t officially release the video footage to go with it. The way they can clean grainy videos up with today’s tech they could get it near or on hd standard.

    Lovely to hear from Mr. Mason about this. But he does seem to inhabit another universe when he talks about bootlegging - imagining it only really began after Dark Side! There are PILES of bootlegs of their 1969, 1970, 1971 shows...there's even a whole Syd show - Copenhagen, 1967.

    • @tamasonor4011
      @tamasonor4011 7 років тому

    • @christthisisdifficul
      @christthisisdifficul 6 років тому

      Exactly. I'd love to see a slew of classic Floyd shows, "from the vault," officially released, like the Dick's Picks series from the Dead. I could be wrong, but from Piper to Final Cut, Ummagumma and Pompeii are the only officially released live Floyd. 1969 shows = grail

    • @Ratelzwatel
      @Ratelzwatel 6 років тому

      The 1967 BBC radio sessions (with Barrett) have superior sound on some bootlegs.
      On the box, inferior copies have been used. Sounding terrible, as if recorded through a telephone.

    • @irplane
      @irplane 4 роки тому

      He's didnt say that nothing was bootlegged, in the beginning he admits that Veg Man and Screan thy have both probably been bootleged. He was saying it was harder to make copies back then and that's why alot hasnt ever been bootlegged. John Latham, some of 65 tracks for examples from this box, and there are still things in the vault from this era specifically that aren't out, andthat noones heard to this day.

      A Car There were a few soundtracks at the time.
      More (from 1969),
      Zabriskie Point (from 1970),
      Obscured By Clouds (from 1972),
      and something fairly obscure from 1968,
      I believe,
      called The Committee.
      Roger Waters worked with
      Atom Heart Mother producer
      Ron Geesin on a soundtrack to a film called The Body.
      Off the top of my head,
      I think that's it for soundtracks between
      1967-1972.
      Well, there's a bit of music from a psychedelic soundtrack done with Syd early on.
