Had the set since Thursday evening. Yes, the set is probably overpriced for what you get. However for the 'die hard Floyd fans' (hello!), the film restoration & re-edit of Delicate on BR is jawdropping, Pulse BR is a massive improvement over the original DVD, the 5.1 mix of AMLOR 2019 stunning (Dogs of War 2019 in 5.1 sounds cavernous and menacing). Add in all of the other extras (Knebworth, Venice, documentaries etc) and the very high quality books, programmes etc and this is a serious treat for fans of latter day Floyd. Expensive? Inarguably. Any real need to double up the BRs with the DVDs? No. Much of what you do get however is of the highest possible quality. Great unboxing video though Paul, appreciate your posting it.
Pulse would be a big reason for me to get this set. I loved your comment about the Pulse BR. Could you explain/expand opon what makes it a massive inprovement ? Thank You
markymo32 IpThe concert film’s standard definition video origins are still evident and no one will mistake it for native HD. However the video encode is much, much better with far less fizzing and noise. Colours are much more stable, with the coloured hues of the backdrop behind Mr Screen staying stable and solid. Definition relative to the original DVD is much improved. It is dificult to think how this could be bettered visually or if any more detail could be pulled from the original tapes. All this is visible when getting up close to my display (49" Sony 49W805). From my usual sitting distance the standard def origins are less pronounced. I'm not an AV professional, but this is a huge improvement all round visually. And of course the DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack is an absolute treat (was was always able to make use of the 640kb/s Dolby Digital track on the original DVD and that was no slouch).
To be honest I'm hugely disappointed with the remix of Delicate Sound of Thunder. The BD also, for absolutely no reason, has cut Pratt's bass solo from Money, and for no reason again - 5 tracks shoved onto a separate disc! If you want to see them play Yet Another Movie, Round and Around, A New Machine 1, Terminal Frost, or A New Machine 2 you have to play a different disc! Why?! And, of course, they refuse to add Another Brick and Welcome to the Machine because they're Roger Waters penned songs and Polly Samson won't let David include Another Brick - even made him go on TV and apologise for it!
The splendid thing about pink floyd is its creativity, its vision of the world, its expansion of ordinary people, making everyday life a great picturesque painting. from a man drying his hair with a towel, to a flying pig, as well as a man walking in a sea of sand, a canoe sailing in the clouds. ideas and great ideas, totally possible for them.
I hope to get one soon. I lost everything I owned from 2005 Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi MS...My drums, my memories and my poor kids lost all they had. All my memories. And theirs. Not a pity pot here, but what I would give to have one of these sets , being I had it all before the storm. I had underground video from friends that went to tours I missed. All the vinyl and tapes. CDs. No other band did I care so much about losing. Anyway. I took up guitar and all things come to an end for new beginnings. My kids and I got to be a happy little family just us 3. Single parent. For that I'd give all of it away to know I'd always have them. Anyway thank you for this unboxing. If I ever get sorted I'd like to purchase one. Great detailed video here!!
They should have included the Vinyl albums and Digital Download Card for the money. On 15 December 2019, Amazon has it listed at $341 US Dollars plus tax and shipping.
The manufacturer of the box messed up. A few companies were involved with putting this thing together. The cardboard blocks are a quick fix. That's why it got delayed a few weeks. I just got the box set sealed for $350. I figure that was a good deal.
What's happened to all their great artwork/packaging? My last box set from PF was the Shine On set, I was thrilled with everything about it, still am actually.
Have loved Pink Floyd for many years, with, in particular, The Later Years materials resonating with me the most. Would have to agree with you about the doubling up of the Blu Rays & DVDs. The hefty price tag here in Australia of $550 does make me shudder & think twice. Will I get it? Probably.....Thanks for the unboxing video!!
I agree lovely first time Xmas gift (Wonder why its just released !!?) But they shoul;d realease individual remixes upgrades DVDs etc We'll still buy them BUT dont need any more dust gatherers! DJEJ
This box set doesn't meet Pink Floyd's usual quality standard for me. Both in price and presentation. Hopefully they'll release the contents as separate items. I'm only interested in the Blu-rays and CD's.
Just a small DVD/Blu-Ray collection featuring just the discs in their sleeves from 12:24 onwards would be great for me because personally I'm just not that bothered about the rest as I'm not a Pink Floyd collector/die hard fan. Great video though, thanks for showing us everything inside!
Does the original AMLOR not appear anywhere in the set? Would be nice to have had both versions. I won’t be buying this as the price is ridiculous. Plus, the “build it yourself” box, paper bellybands and hard-to-open envelope just seem weirdly flimsy.
Agree with you Paul, it’s too expensive for the content. DVD is so year 2005 anyway, who has a standalone DVD player these days?? Even bluray is soon obsolete, as are discs as a medium. I might get this if the price drops to £150.

It wouldn't matter what they include somebody will always complain and whinge about the content and price. I'm pretty sure all the restored and remastered material would have been a lengthy and costly process. Personally I would have liked more vinyl content.
I plan on getting this next month. I am only upset that A Momentary Lapse of Reason 5.1 is only the remix. They should have had the original as well in 5.1, the new version sounds great but its not the original. I dont mind remixes I just dont like erasing the past.

Just as a minor constructive criticism: compared to your other excellent videos, this one does not sound quite as good as your other ones and your narration doesn't come across as well defined (I am not sure if you changed equipment and/or the way you shot it). The live 8concerts were charity stuff. And there fore, all bands agreed not to release it for own commercial reasons. Also live aid 1985,with one exception is Queen.
it really sux that the guitar solo of comfortably numb is cut by 2 min on the original VHS ! that makes the vhs totally useless !! I don't need this damn reissue, but the guitar solo ain't cut on the blu ray !!
had mine as an xmas present, and while its great and lush AND expensive - i find it hard to believe that only MLOR is the only studio album in the box? division bell and endless river should also be in there. i know floyd release albums in super dooper formats like the immersion boxes, but considering that without waters they only released 2 albums - momentary and division and YES endless river also ( although this is widely regarded as NOT a real floyd album, 18 tracks and only one of which that is a song ) all 3 should have been included, very strange in my opinion ----- EDIT - OH HANG ON , IT DOES HAVE THE DIVISION BELL ? right - WHERES THE ENDLESS RIVER lol, i;ll prob find that in a min lol

It’s like they lost interest half way through. It should be bursting with artwork and photos. Why is there so much black area? The Blu-ray’s should have come in nice cases instead of cardboard. Too much whining about the spacers for the tour programs. Too much bellyaching overall if you really want to know but, I'm the grateful type fan who's thankful for the upgrades that were made and the effort they put forth. Consider how many bands toss the project into the hands of a studio exec. who slaps together the cheapest way to pickpocket hardcore fans.
The Early Years: 33 discs in total. Shitload of unreleased material. Content not getting released over and over again in different qualities. The Later Years: 16 discs in total. A few unreleased songs and videos. Mostly remixes and remasters. Content gets released in their own box sets in different qualities and formats not in this box. Both the same price. "The Later Years" is totally not worth it. They didn't put closely as much love in it as they did in "The Early Years", which is a superb boxset.
Excellent but hugely overpriced box set. But why on earth didn't they include some of the music they recorded in 1991 for the movie La Carrera Panamericana? These are the tracks recorded for the movie: "Country Theme" - 2:01 "Small Theme" - 7:23 "Big Theme" - 4:10 "Carrera Slow Blues" (Gilmour/Wright/Mason) - 2:20 "Mexico '78" - 4:05 "Pan Am Shuffle" (Gilmour/Wright/Mason) - 8:09 A missed opportunity.
It would have been great to see the complete Atlanta show, and of course the Versailles show as well. La Cara offered some fresh new songs and some nice new takes on old songs. Some unreleased material would have been a treat as well,...the long talked about 'Peace Be with You' should've been included. A few more things that we know they have would've really pushed this box, I just can't justify buying it as much of the material is just remastered offerings (but nice offerings).
I purchased this a few weeks ago. Its a great set and a must have if your crazy about Floyd. The 5.1 mixes of Reason and Division are excellent. The Pulse performance was recorded on video so its quality even after remastering is pretty poor but nothing can be done. Over all this set is expensive and doesn't have somethings it should such as the performance with Roger Waters for Live Aid but its a nice piece to have if money is no option or your a Floyd lover that has to have it all. I just ordered the Early Years 1965 - 1972 and its on the way. I have the Immersion sets, this and soon the Early Years and that long with a collection of original LPs and all the CDs is about all you need to fully experience The Pink Floyd in all its glory. My one last complaint about this is that they remixed A Momentary Lapse of reason. They did a good job of updating it but it does have some problems. Many of the new drum parts are berried in the mix and makes you reach for the original. It would have been nice if they included the original Reason album mixed in 5.1 along with the new one. Plenty of Sunday nights and drinks will be had listening and watching all this material for many years.

Totally agree man. I hate the dvd and Blu-ray’s being sold together. Just a waste of padding. You really only get 11 discs not 18 worth of unique material.
@@seekah1 Everything after the Final Cut is all I've been absorbing since this came out and it's been quite excellent going. Roger wasn't the musical genius of Floyd, David was. Nick and Richard also brought a bit of their own genius to the mix but, David is the signature part of the Floyd sound that cannot be absent if you want it to sound right.
This was without a question, an overpriced box set with so much duplication, sad they do this to they collectors of Floyd material, as it’s the real followers that get ripped off, as we will buy these sets.

The CDs are not superfluous. I've really liked the AMLOR remixes with Mason and Wright more involved.

I have the Immersion sets, this and soon the Early Years and that long with a collection of original LPs and all the CDs is about all you need to fully experience The Pink Floyd in all its glory. My one last complaint about this is that they remixed A Momentary Lapse of reason. They did a good job of updating it but it does have some problems. Many of the new drum parts are berried in the mix and makes you reach for the original. It would have been nice if they included the original Reason album mixed in 5.1 along with the new one. Plenty of Sunday nights and drinks will be had listening and watching all this material for many years.

Totally agree man. I hate the dvd and Blu-ray’s being sold together. Just a waste of padding. You really only get 11 discs not 18 worth of unique material.

@@seekah1 Everything after the Final Cut is all I've been absorbing since this came out and it's been quite excellent going. Roger wasn't the musical genius of Floyd, David was. Nick and Richard also brought a bit of their own genius to the mix but, David is the signature part of the Floyd sound that cannot be absent if you want it to sound right.

This was without a question, an overpriced box set with so much duplication, sad they do this to they collectors of Floyd material, as it’s the real followers that get ripped off, as we will buy these sets.
