It's no Citizen Kane, but this movie is my Black Panther. Unlocked so many core memories just from vibing con los Reyes
As a hispanic/latino and grandson of mexican immigrants, i really enjoyed this movie and felt very well represented by the Reyes family. This movie was extra emotional and hilarious for me because Uncle Rudy was just the personification of my late uncle whom I lost in 2019. My only dissappointment was that the Blue Beetle comics are set in El Paso Tx and I wish the movie would have kept that location. Instead the director decided he wanted Jaime to be based in a fictional city like other DC characters such as Batman and Superman.
edit: a little lore knowledge for you. Ted Kord in the comics is exactly the same as in this movie. he couldnt activate the scarab so he replicated some of its abilities with tech of his own invention.
Yeah thats a pity but yeah since the other DCEU movies were set in fictional Cities..it probably made sense to do the same..
As a real Mexican here, I must say that you're not Hispanic... that kind of thinking is gringo thinking... we don't care about being represented on screen... we have bigger problems than that dude... Imagine your main problem in life is not being represented on screen 😂 no seas baboso!

I just watched this today as a 22 year old mexican american and it might be my favorite superhero movie ever. I agree I hope people find this in the future and say “damn this is amazing we slept on it bad.”
The girl who plays Jenny, Bruna Marquezine is our national treasure, she is such an talented brazillian actress and this is her first big international role. We brazilians are so so so proud of her and so happy that she is getting the recognition she deserves

I loved The Miss Marvel show and it had similarities but Blue Beetle for me was even better..so damn good and the family were Amazing..
The Grandmother was my favorite character. She was just so fun.
I know in Latin culture we tend to use both last names, but got damn Sanchez 😂😂...btw only reasons it didn't make money it was because it wasn't being promoted do to the strike, so ppl automatically thought it was going to be a flop.
This felt so much like the old sci-fi adventure / superhero movies from my childhood! I dig it so much for what it is, it's so much fun!!
By the way, the scarab Kaji-Da is the most powerful artifact in the DC universe fuced to Jaime's spine. The Reach's most powerful weapon fuced with powerful magical forces from Earth by powerful wizards in Egypt.
I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. As a 2nd generation Mexican-American, I felt represented in a way that didn't feel pandered to. I feel like the only people that had a problem with this portrayal, were the ones that did not grow up in it. I loved the family dynamic, I loved the character intros and development, and I loved that the plot didn't feel over the top. It gave us time to get familiar with the characters. Also, I enjoyed watching you two enjoy this movie. Always a good time with y'alls reactions.
That was a great movie in itself and had so much cultural references for latinos… love it
This movie is so incredible, I'm Mexican American and can see people from my family in the family characters here. Great representation of Latinos in America, you got multiple generations and they're middle working class people.
It's surprising to see a movie about Latinos without any cholos or gang members.
Wish it would've done better but it wasn't promoted as well as it should've. I still meet people who never heard of this movie and get excited when I shoe them the trailer.
It's about time us Latinos get our own hero.
Well the good thing about this is that James Gun made this movie canon on the Universe he is creating right now. If his Superman is a hit, Clark Kent n Jaime can be friends.

I watched this movie in the theaters for my birthday, and it was such a gift. As a brazilian and a fan of Bruna since she was a child (and so was I) I couldn't be more proud. Loved this and the references to the latino community
I love how much you loved this film as much as I did when I was sitting in the cinema watching it! It is such a special movie and such an absolutely sensational fun time to watch. The family is everything - I too was utterly charmed by them at all times - and it also managed to deliver on the fun superhero stuff too.

It amused me that Jaime was doing pre-law in Gotham. I mean, yes, there is a higher than normal need for lawyers in that city but OTOH a large percentage of criminals are going to plead guilty just to avoid being beaten up by Batman ... again.
I don’t know why this didn’t make that much money. This was unexpectedly really good.

This movie really was impressive. I was pleasantly surprised when I watched it in theaters. Even with word of mouth it’s sad more people didn’t go see it.
I know people keep comparing him to Spiderboy or Iron guy but this is wayyy better than those guys lol. We don't need anymore white saviors, finally a superhero with some flavor lol. Best superhero movie this year.

Watching this theaters with my family (mainly my dad and I since we both love Marvel an DC) When I looked over to him I could see that pure joy I was feeling being represented on his face and we talked about it afterwards. I loved this movie!
I loved this movie, and one thing about the suit I really loved you guys seem to have missed. You mentioned how the suit does not speak Spanish until it integrates with Jaime, but that's not how I saw it. It seemed to me that the suit learned Spanish as his family spoke it to him, especially the line from his mom about kicking ass, which made it even more of a wonderful touch IMO!
The glove is not from League of Legends. No; that's a Nintendo Power Glove from 1989. It was a peripheral that was an alternative controller. It was used for games like Punch Out

Really glad you guys did this one. I enjoyed it as well, for all the reasons you mentioned. My one complaint was that a few of the music choices didn't really fit.

This movie does for Hispanic, what Black Panther did for African Americans. It gave us reputation other movies don't. As a Hispanic male, I can see my family in the way it was done. My direct family is more American than the rest of my family, but this felt like if I when you a big family get together. It feels real to me and not a typical stereotype movie.
34:00 I think it failed from general disinterest in the property (Blue Beetle), a bit of superhero fatigue (almost all superhero movies flopped this year except GotG 3 and Spider Man: Into the Spiderverse), and the general plot is fairly rote nowadays. It didn’t even get much traction with the Latin community. Poor reception from The Flash probably didn’t help overall either

Such an underrated movie, Blue Beetle became one of my fav superheroes thanks to Young Justice, since I only knew Ted Kord before that, and I'm mexican as well, and Jaime is just cute and funny and kind, and this movies translated everything that Jaime Reyes is really well, of course could be better in many points, but still, one of the best amm newer DC movies

I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I'm from Argentina, I went to see this in theatres, and everyone was laughing the whole time. From comments I've read, I think American audiences didn't connect to the Latin American aspects of this movie.

I almost watched it in theatres, but Jaime was never my favourite YJ member and I honestly didn't have time. It pretty immediately went onto the 'stream it with the kids at home' list. It's good, though. I'd probably go and watch a sequel.
It reviewed well, but as you pointed out, it came out during the strike. This was 100% a film that needed promotion. Word of mouth can only do so much. At the same time though, Gunn's the kind of person to listen to the response it did get, rather than the sensationalist 'flop' tagging headlines.

This show is cheesy but still great.
I really enjoyed the first half, maybe i just couldn't turn off my brain for the second half. I kept saying to myself, "how does his uncle know how to fly this craft" etc.
Clarus we have seen u wear stunning outfits that captivate everyone attention, but for some reason it was extremely hard maintaining focus on the movie n reaction.
One moment we are laughing of enjoyment watching the events of the movie n ur reaction to it,
N then out of nowhere I go 😮 🤩 😊❗️ n then seconds had passed n I didn’t know what’s going on.
So… basically you want to watch Ugly Betty.

The virgin scene was an insult to most Mexicans, more than 75% of Mexicans are Christians and they love the virgin Mary... as a Mexican, I don't know what they were trying to do with that scene... it does not add to the story, so why put something we Mexicans consider holy in an action movie? just weird. The movie tanked here for a reason
