Stay strong and fear not though, because as history has taught us - as with all crazy political extremes and messaging, they tend to come in cycles where they build up, reach their peak, then fade into obscurity and things slowly become relatively normal again.... Well, until the next time that is.
As a fellow content creator, what I have noticed recently is that I'm enjoying playing games released by small indie studios far more than most AAA titles these days, plus for the most part they do tend to have a lot less in the way of political messaging stuffed into them too, which is always a good thing!

The value that you have always brought is a balanced look at the game on its merits, a review of the history and inspirations that built to the game being reviewed and a no BS approach within the community you have forged around your work. We all understand that this issue has been a rising tide at the breaker walls and it was only a matter of time before something came and spilled over. But from one squarehead to another dont let this shit poison your heart, reset, adjust and move on. What you have been doing is what we want to be watching.
No worries, you're free to speak your piece here. Even folks on the Left can tell when they're being pandered to by low-quality writers and it's just as annoying - just call it as you see it and don't let it get to you.
I miss the 90s and early 2000s. It was a simpler time when developers made games, and gamers played them. No bs, no politics. Fun was the priority back then.
What does politics have to do with video games? You must be looking for that stuff or the side you rep isn't in a positive light.

There's nothing wrong with pointing out the elephant in the room.
I think the AAA space will implode, but on the positive side, this will allow savvy developers to take more of the overall market share. Developers who make fun games and stay away from real-world politics will make a killing.
Spiderman 2 was my moment. That game is filled to the brim with ideology, logical fallacies and stupid writing.

I think the issue is that the line between church and state has gone beyond “blurred” and now become a marketing tool to sell more product through controversy. It’s up to us, the consumer NOT to take the bait. Refund that shit and leave a negative review. Thanks for the review mate, well spoken🍻
I'm sorry for the state of gaming and the entertainment industry as a whole. The current mainstream stance of "propaganda at the cost of quality" (regardless of the message being propped up) has gone on long enough. It will continue as long as consumers keep consuming. I think you're right that the bubble will burst sooner or later (hopefully sooner) and we'll start getting narrative focused media rather than message focused media again.
Until then, I will personally be avoiding the AAA games from household names in the gaming space (all of it has been feeling like cash grab or propagandist garbage anyway) and stay in the lesser-known or indie space for a while. There's more to choose from and honestly the games are much better.
For me, its games such as:
Baldur's Gate 3
Dave the Diver
Palworld
There's still good and fun games out there with compelling story and satisfying game loops. Hang in there :)

Very well said from a normie pov. Eventually, everyone will draw the line based on their own moral standards. AAA games are no longer about escapism anymore. I think the gaming bubble will burst soon with all the recent layoffs that has been happening in the industry.
There was a time when we rightfully looked on movie games as bottom-of-the-barrel garbage.
I feel like it's the blunt unimaginative tokenism that's so offensive. Imagine the alternative where you are forced to walk past sentiments like "we support the sanctity of marriage" or "fetuses are people too!".
By all means have stories with diverse characters that have a message. But don't act like the Sunday preacher standing in the town square shouting at people that they are going to hell 😂.
Hey Scarlet. A bit of my own rant to dovetail off your own. Honestly, I'm glad to hear more and more voices seeing the same thing, so my thanks for having the moral compass to say 'enough is enough'. The moment for me was with Hardspace Shipbreaker. I had almost 300 hours in it around the time it came out on the HOPE that story could be just ignored. Like what you mention with things being right in your face, something you can't skip and there to push the mindset of the creators for their own personal desires/utopia/ideology, Shipbreaker had it and Suicide Squad: KtJL has it with additional games having that undertone as well. Something as simple as choosing pronouns, an action that is in no way needed nor has any bearing on a story is pushed out to the front of a game to virtue signal to investors to say 'we are on your team and against the other side.' Why are games getting politically charged? Imagine a remake of Mario where unneeded dialogue about his sexuality or some other BS was added in. It would be praised by an ideology and hated by us plebs.
It's honestly sad. Why can't we just gather around a good game with good game play, potentially a wacky (Saints Row III & IV) or alternative history (Command & Conquer) and enjoy it as opposed to being lambasted from a side with options, visuals, story and dialogue that roughly half of their audience never asked for and finds distasteful (Saints Row II Remake).
Quite honestly, the last AAA game I purchased with my own money (Cyberpunk 2077 was gifted to me) was the remake of SimCity and it was such a letdown for bad game play and a cash grab that I effectively swore off buying any new game at full price if it was $60 or more. Presently looking through my Steam library 69/95 are indy devs, 11/95 are remasters of AA/AAA and the remaining 25 or so were likely AA or AAA but purchased a fair while after with a very select few ( Half-Life 2, Portal 2 and CP2077) being purchased at full price. Be wise with your dollars and don't vote for things you don't agree with, because it empowers the management team to tell their writers to keep going and push harder and harder with it. Honestly there are enough good indy dev teams out there making some really great games to back and enjoy. Though it's hard to say which is worse, chronic early access normalcy or broken full price agenda driven AAA.
I will be trying to figure out if the story of the next big game I'm looking out for is neutral or has an underlying narrative, and based on the last game they did, I am concerned about Homeworld III... let's hope Lou doesn't make an appearance and start spouting in unskippable dialogue.
Games, and media in general, have morphed from entertainment into a platform for propaganda and have been doing so for a while. Having a message is fine, it's a message I mostly agree with even, but forcing that message down everyone's throat at every turn is when a game is no longer just a game. It's how you get shit like, Noah's Ark Bible Adventure and PETA's Pokemon Black & Blue, this stuff has no place in a video game intended to actually be fun.
Of course a message here or there is fine, media should at least in some way be a platform for positive influences, but the more message you have the less game you have.
Games are basically turning into Jehovah's Witnesses at this point, they are losing all purpose beyond pushing a message and forcing an ideology and all I want to do is slam my door in their face.
Listening to this is super interesting. It reminds me of me about 2 years ago when the whole M-She-U stuff came up. I was like "People are being ridiculous. There is no conspiracy to replace the male characters for female characters. They are not tearing down all the men and all the masculine male role models..."
But property after property, film after film, series after series, by the time they got to She-Hulk, I was like "Well they convinced me. This is a conspiracy to replace the male characters with female ones" It is too much to be a coincidence. This is a coordinated plan maybe not at the industry level but certainly at the level of companies, they want this messaging. They want this narrative.
Listening to this review, I think they absolutely want to push people onto one side or the other. I think division is the point. Men and women can absolutely co-exist if we can respect each other, but this isn't mutual respect. It's an attack, and I think the goal is to force people to pick a side. So yeah, this review seems totally understandable to me as someone who didn't have any interest in this gender war/culture war drama. They made me care because it became unavoidable. I had to stop watching modern movies. I'm back to reading books that I know haven't been ruined with this stuff.

And the black deadshot thing is so stupid. There was an easy way to solve it, you can use Bloodsport, which is exactly what they did for the James Gunn movie. It's the same character basically. They are basically the same character. Deadshot isn't that compelling a character that it needs all this fuss and bother. Just pick another character that can shoot. That said, I like both the design of that character and the voice actor. So keeping him I think makes sense, just side-step the recasting him as a white person and then you can respect what came before.
If it crosses that line, I honestly just drop it there and move on

I hope that you find games that you love to play. That is, I hope that good games keep being released, most likely in the AA and Indie scenes. AAA is a lost cause, I think, for the most part. And if you see stuff like this, and you feel up to it, call it out for what it is, and move on. Maybe release an update if something major happens, but there's no reason to steep yourself in the negativity for clicks and views and release fifteen "This Game is Ideological Poison" videos on a single game, you're right. I'm a fan of Ryan Kinel, of RK Outpost and G&G, but I don't watch a lot of his videos because all he does is release negative content on things I'm already aware of, and I don't always need that in my diet. So I think you have the right idea. Keep looking for the positives, but don't be afraid to point out the negative when you see it. In any case, I'm subbed.

You will never be blacklisted be me, I felt the same way while playing Horizon and Valhalla when they kept pushing a relationship in the game, why does any of that matter in the game space, I have recently went back to play through the First Division game and it never mattered that Jessica Kandel was gay I loved her attitude and character but it didn't drill it into me it was a depiction of real life. COD lost me when it was drilling all the culture wars and political agendas, I just want to play a game and not be constantly reminded there's enough of that at my job and around my as it is. I've never cared who you voted for who you slept with or what color you were, and nor should anyone care about me with any of that, all that should matter is that you are a good human being and treat people with respect, we don't all have to believe in the same things and we can all be happy.

The in-game bios for WW and GL are clear examples that they were pushing specific cultural and political talking points.
The gameplay loop isn't terrible, but its everyone with a gun. King Shark should've been the designated melee character and they fumbled even that.

And here's the biggest middle finger: at the end after Lois gives Batman's Eulogy, "Thank you, Kevin" pops up for a few seconds...the a ding and you get loot. Also, ads pushing you into the endgame and the in-game store.
It wasn't enough to kill Batman...his send-off was also killed.
Its funny all the UA-camrs are like “we cant pinpoint why its so bad” well i can. Its cuz wb wanted ALL the money, saw live service games and said make me that. The team at rocksteady has no idea how to do it, half leave, the remainder figure out something but go to sweet effing baby for the dei money, then churn out this sub par bleh. This is like how the redfall team had no experience making this same thing.
I think its identity politics. You need to identify with one side or the other. Fence sitters or centerists break down the facade. So either side picks an nuanced and gray, hot button issue and crams down your throat that you are an enemy or you need to be an ally... until you break and finally join a team 😮💨

This game is absolute garbage. The voice acting was superb, but literally everything else is TRASH. The graphical comparisons between this and Arkham Knight (from 2015) is astounding. What a MASSIVE step back for Rocksteady.

You know it's getting harder and harder to find games that doesnt have gender politics in them. Soon along with what your talking about, yes there will be no games with this stuff in them. And part of it is i think these companies are afraid to be a target.
I've watched a few reviews for this game, and none mentioned the "pride" flag... That alone is 110% BS, and should NEVER be in any game - keep political crap to yourselves.
So glad this game failed as hard as it has. Maybe this will send a message to other devs/publishers to simply make games, that gamers want to play
I hit my moment years ago. You hit two themes here that bother me a lot. The first is the political stuff, which has been discussed ad nauseam. Your 2nd point has been discussed somewhat, but not much. The deconstruction has to stop, but WE have to stop it. We have to stop both the political stuff and the deconstruction as consumers and be better. I'm trying to be an author (emphasis on trying). I'm focusing on telling good stories with strong moral framework with classic heroes journey arcs. We need to remember why we started telling stories in the first place.

I'm also an Australian gamer and I started a UA-cam gaming channel for fun, I've noticed over the years that games are definitely more political and more in your face with agendas and messaging. For that reason I've stuck to games from a certain era. I'd rather play GTA IV or V or earlier games than all the current crap, Saints Row 2022 is a classic example of a game that forgot its roots and turned to shit. I have no doubt there will be plenty more too. At least in GTA you listen to the radio and the comedy / parody GOES BOTH WAYS. They make fun of liberals AND conservatives, if you can't be fair and balanced maybe don't put politics into the games. And I wish they'd stop putting in the LGBT propaganda with the flags and messaging too, Spider Man 2 was awful because of the propaganda. Gaming is the last battlefront, movies and TV shows have fallen already. The people making them are activists, not creators. But if gaming falls too... I'll just go back to books. Sorry for writing an essay but some things have to be said.
I completely agree with everything you said. I just wanted to give it a try. I kind of feel like I got a smack in the face with everything they blatantly did in this game. It’s not your fault. It’s hard to avoid when they are shoving this down your throat in an aggressive “ you are going to Acknowledgeme way!” It’s wearing me out.
