Awesome. I had a FWD RAV4 in college. Salvage title, smelled like death when the temp rose above 80 outside... but there was blood on the dash when I bought it sooooo... anyway, looking forward to following this project!
I just bought a 1997 Rav4 L on FB marketplace( guess that means luxury) for $750 with 202k on the odometer. I'm hoping I didn't get suckered its gonna need a new battery, transmission seems to shift ok but the back power windows roll down extremely slow. I like how it sits up higher but still drives like a car and I love the big windows
I just picked up my first Toyota ever.a 2000 Rav4 for $1500. just changed oil to full synthetic oil and filter. drives nice but needs rear shocks avail for under $100. thanks for sharing.
@@positv333 it's been 4 weeks and 600 miles later, not any issues YET. But the awd does surprisingly good when offloading, hasn't failed me yet, but I wont jinx it 👌
Considering buying this from a seller tomorrow. Difference is the interior is superb, doesn't have the back tire & a bit more miles. I feel that its a great car
glad yours works good. i just paid $1900 for a 98 rav4, and it started smoking 3 days later... took it into toyota. freeze plugs quote was $2500... never again
i got a mostly all original 96 rav4 with 214k miles for 1400 bucks been my first car ever since hvac doesn't work, blower motor died, damn thing smells like something is burning all the time radiator has gunk in it, might be old coolant but i'm sure the oil might be mixing mine leaks oil too i think it's a rear main seal i dump a bottle of blue devil rear main sealer in and it stops leaking so much my exhaust fell off the flex pipes burn off easily so i've been driving on just the manifold and a burnt piece of flex pipe that is stuck on the newer rav4s still have tires on the back, i have an original hard cover case w/ lock 236k miles and it's still running threw new tires, battery, starter, brakes, and a radiator cap on it and keeping a good filter and dumping oil in it constantly still runs well enough
Please, please! I just purchased the same year (but manual and short) - how do I recognize the type of rear diff? I'm very suspicious mine has LSD too, because it crawls everything even without the center diff lock engaged. Thank you.
Please forgive my middle-aged perspective but why ruin it with modifications? Just hand it over to a famous UA-cam mechanic and have it restored to its former glory with genuine Toyota parts. Fun Fact: this generation of RAV4 was about one foot shorter than the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe.
I kinda agree with both of you on this one. Doesn't seem like he will go too far with the mods, but I prefer a clean looking car from the 90s myself. Fun, simple era. Thinking about an Aerostar now for some random reason.
How do you verify if a RAV4 has the LSD? Information online is sparse and most forums just go on and on about how it never existed until someone brings up how rare it is and shows that it was a listed option.
I have a question, does this SUV axle interlock switch, when 4x4 is engaged , is there an indicator light to tell you it is engaged or is it just on when you push the button ? I just bought one and can't seem to tell if it works or not lol
I have a 97' Rav 4 with 99k miles that burns about a quart of oil per 100 miles. It's not in bad shape, I'm wondering if it would be worth putting an engine in
I’m making a meditation room in my 1998 rav4 but I just have back seats folded up because I have no where to store them. I will be making a video about my rav4 makeover. Also will post a picture on twitter lmk if I can say name of channel….
I just bought a 1999 Toyota Rav4 for $2000 as my first car. It is in perfect mechanical and interior condition with 192,000 miles but the paint is in terrrrribleeee condition ha ha.
I have a 99 rav4 5 speed manual with 108K miles. It's going to need a subframe replaced and lower control arms. I'm not up to the job myself. Do you think it's worth fixing?
I've had mine for a few years now. Looks the same. Same color and everything. 350,000 miles and going strong! I actually love this car
How do I find a car like this ?
Bonsoir ! J'ai besoin de ce type de Toyota.
Comment pouvez-vous m'aider pour l'acquérir ?
Brings back memories!! I had a 1997 RAV4 same color but manual transmission. ♥️♥️♥️
This car is such a beauty.
Sense of humor is spot on!!!! Doug DeMuro is standing in the corner and smoking nervously....

Bought mine for 2k 13years ago. Been doing all my own tuneup and I’ve got almost 400,000 miles. Still going strong. EXCEPT burning 2q oil a week!

What the miles ?
Probably getting one same year as yours for $2,500 with 159 miles
1:50 I'm lightheaded from laughing. I am enamored by your possibly sarcastic optimism.
Looking forward to your updates!
Just bought the same car, same year same color for 1000$, except mine is a standard, and dosnt seem to leak yet, gonna be a nice little trail rig.
don't jinx it, mine started leaking like a bitch a couple weeks after i got it

@@lilharrierstrike1496 i driven my recently purchase rav4 2000 miles since i got it. Ive done only an oil change
these videos have done a great service to the first gen rav4

Love it! Fix those problems don’t ignore them.
I have a 99 rav4 auto with 243,000 miles. Very reliable. Been looking for the oem roof rails with the keys for awhile
im still looking
Man it's so close to mine. Only differences are mine's a 98, gray, has no LSD, cost $1400, and has 247k miles instead of 245k
Just picked one up off my grandma for $100 and a cheeseburger. My new daily to compliment my 1970 impala and my lifted 1992 Nissan hardbody pickup

radiator has gunk in it, might be old coolant but i'm sure the oil might be mixing
mine leaks oil too i think it's a rear main seal i dump a bottle of blue devil rear main sealer in and it stops leaking so much
my exhaust fell off the flex pipes burn off easily so i've been driving on just the manifold and a burnt piece of flex pipe that is stuck on
the newer rav4s still have tires on the back, i have an original hard cover case w/ lock
236k miles and it's still running
threw new tires, battery, starter, brakes, and a radiator cap on it and keeping a good filter and dumping oil in it constantly
still runs well enough
My favorite rav4 years. Found a 99 in mint burgundy color with mint beautiful interior for 3100$ now. Wish I can share a pic.

the easiest way to find out is with an icy patch of street. if both wheels spin when you floor it then you have lsd
Just floor it in gravel and if you get one tire track, it's an open diff; if theres two it's lsd
Out in Cali these old buckets with 300k miles are going for 3k

Melinda Pham no it's full time AWD not true 4x4 .
“I buy clorox wipes in bulk” Not in 2020. I have a 98 rav4
Hello, I just purchased one of these. How do I know if the AWD is in fact on ? does any light come on on the dash ?
Diego Ramalho its full time AWD so it runs all the time without you even knowing it.

It sounds like a boxer with that exhaust leak.
Awesome bout to get one for my channel.

The subframe will probably run the price of another rav4
Should i buy one 1500 211k miles 1997
If you want to!
They’re nice and compact. I’m about to buy one with 260,000 miles 4x4 but 2x4 is better because it’s easier to fix.
What is the price range on these
Is alphashark your little brother
What does "LV" mean?
Fuel consumption?
I haven't measured. I'm guessing poor by modern standards, but still somewhat decent. Maybe low 20s in mixed driving? But that's a complete guess.

Hi. How are you? Still have the car? I am interested
My Toyota is much cleaner and runs perfect and only had 129000 miles on it
Well my dad can beat up your dad, so there!
I want to buy a 1st gen Rav4 too. How can I identify it by having the rear locking differential? Thanks
