Most people say this was the very first crossover SUV introduced in 1997. This chassis shared that of the Corolla lovelife, but now the current gen is TNGA-K which is shared with the Camry, Lexus ES, NX, RX, Highlander/Kluger, Venza/Harrier, etc. I hope TMP brings in the AWD versions and the powerful PHEV/Prime variant as the Corolla Cross is sure to cannibalize the sales of our local-spec RAV4 (jokingly called RAV2 because for the first time only FWD were offered here when the current gen was launched last year). I wonder if JPEPA and the new TRAIN Law, and even the recent RCEP trade deal, are enough to make Japan-import vehicles competitively priced here.
Cars have really gotten bigger over the years. Take the Corona (review on this soon) for example. What then was supposed to be a mid-sized car, in today's standards is just comparable to our compact, or even sub-compact cars. Same must have went for the Rav4 nameplate. I don't think we'd benefit from the AWB version though given our roads here. AWB plays a huge part in safety in NA roads as snowfall and ice formation is common.
@@KyleLiongCars Exactly. Thanks for the review. Been looking into buying one of these RAV4s for traveling and minor off-road capabilities. Not sure why the dude who owns this one turned it into a pimp mobile but to each their own. I’ve been watching videos about RAV4s because I’m a big fan of Toyota and I’m looking for something fun and reliable.
There is no car with a life lasting engine like this car. Have seen many cars take long on the road but never like this car. this car can literally still move to anywhere, any road even without basic maintenance for years and even when its falling apart.
Holy woofer, Batman! Honestly, I'd bet a smaller sub would actually sound better. I friggin love these cars though. That one looks pretty sweet. Love the wheels. I really like that interior upholstery pattern, too. I have a similar pattern, but darker. I like your brighter one better. Those switches for the aftermarket lights are terrible, though.
I have put black 18 high profile mags on my 96 5door rav it completely transformed the car from a grandma car to quite an agressive cool look to it everyone seem to say it looks good rav actually looks lowered 😂 amazing what mags can do to a car
Yes. I bought a 99 rav4 for $900 to only use to drive around and car search. I ended up buying my new car and just can't sell my RAV4. I don't want to even try. I use it a few times a week and am actually considering selling my new car instead and keeping the RAV4. The back seats reclining are awesome. And it has a vent under the steering wheel that points right between your legs that's awesome . I'm surprised at how awesome this car is. My only complaint is that when I open the back door my groceries fall out easily but you can buy a net for that.
@@KyleLiongCars a friend of mine is a mechanic for Toyota and also owns a Rav4 (1st gen) and not even he thought about that lol. It's a cheat code, use it!

My friend has a bright red 3-door with the 3S engine and it still runs perfectly even until today. These were built like a tank.
They sure don’t make them the same now haha
Great first crossover made by Toyota. Arguably the one that started the trend for SUVs later on.

I 💚 my Rav4! Proud owner of a '98 TRD Edition. The competition me and my little guy have smoked is beyond immense!

love this car i hope to buy it one day. so happy to see you do a vid with this car!
Thanks and my pleasure
Mine is still running the same. Reliable and excellent!
That’s great! These 90s Toyotas are pretty reliable
The 3 door version is my dream car for its small size and large engine. Wished parts are still plentiful.

Not my car haha but the owner loves this so much. It’s his pet project. I gotta admit that the subwoofer is ridiculously big though hahaha
I have a 97 very similar to this one. Love mine!

Rims are 18" rims. Tire size is 245/50/18
Please make a review of the XA20 as well. :) I would let you borrow mine but I'm no longer living in Manila.

hows the fuel consumption on this one?
I like this model
Great car
Is it still worth it to buy an older version of rav4 such as this model?
Yes definitely. Easy to maintain, reliable and plenty of parts on the market
@@KyleLiongCars thanks for the reply! How about the fuel consumption?
Welcome po. Fuel consumption around 6-7Km/L
@@KyleLiongCars city driving?
Yup
Hi I enjoyed watching your video. Please I want to know if this after market exhaust increases fuel consumption. Thanks
Thanks! It shouldn't really eat into fuel consumption :D
So beautiful, I want something like that.

its so hard to buy a rav4 in my area. I keep trying to drive out of state for one and the get sold so fast less than a day.

I like this car because it is my first gift, what to do so that it does not make the whistles anymore?
Well we can’t say for certain since we can’t inspect the car. No choice but to take it to a local mechanic
Would you recommend a 1999 Rav4 as a 2nd hand car in 2021?

Things are simpler with these old cars and sometimes they’re more reliable haha
Is a 1999 at 210,000 worth purchasing? Well maintained
As long as it’s well maintained, it’s fine
So how to distinguish an AWD vs a FWD?
