Incredible work!! How come you did not insulate under the hood or elsewhere in the engine compartment? Is most of the noise from the road / wind? I have not taken the plunge on a Rav 4 Gen 1 yet. Doing my research.
The engine is also pretty loud, and you can reduce engine noise by adding insulation to the hood. Most cars will have soft fiberglass hood insulation instead of the heavy sound deadening I used inside the car. Newer cars usually have a plastic and foam engine cover that also reduces noise. There are 2 ways to own a first generation RAV4. First, you must realize the car is more than 25 years old and needs a ton of repairs. Option 1: It's an old POS but probably won't leave you stranded. Maintain the car and fix things that prevent it from moving and don't worry about the 1,000 other problems it has. This is the most practical and cost effective. Option 2: try to turn it into a new car. This is impossible and very expensive. You can fix everything and restore the car, but when you're done, you get a car from the 1990's that is not safe, not fast, loud, and not very fuel efficient. It's kind of a bad car compared to newer ones. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

The paint on the floor of the RAV4 is pretty good, so it's not likely that your drinks caused any rust. Taking the carpet out is pretty easy, so if you want your RAV4 to be super clean, you can remove the carpet and clean it outside the car. Last year I took the seats and carpet out and washed the floor with a hose and a brush. You can't get 20 years of dirt out of your car without taking it apart. It sounds like your windshield has a leak. Take it to the car wash and power wash around the windshield to see if that's your leak. I think your installer did a bad job and should re-do it.

Question about the wholes in the floor... Are those made by the manufacturer and what's is the purpose of the wholes if they are sealed with plugs? Wouldn't it be better if it did no have wholes?
The RAV4 comes from the factory with a lot of holes in the floor. I don't know why, but my guess is they are needed during assembly at the factory. Maybe the robots put their little hands in there.
@@LabCoatPaul hey Paul, I already removed all the old insulation covers ( took a while) some of them were in a very good state by the way, but I"m having trouble finding the "goo gone" pruduct in Costa Rica... Any idea about other brand or similar products? I used grease remover but it's not doing it thanks
I haven't had that problem, but I also don't drive my RAV4. Every car has small exhaust vent flaps in the back of the car. You'll see some small slits in the rear panels by where the shocks mount. Make sure these are not plugged or covered.
Paul! I will do this project on vacations and was wondering what's the purpose of the rubber plugs? What happens if I leave the wholes uncovered? Aren't they made to filter the water?
The rubber plugs in the floor prevent water from getting inside the car. If you leave them out and drive through water when it's raining, you'll get water trapped between the metal floor and the carpet, and the floor will rust.
This guy is the best explaining how to do things in ur rav4. I Have the same car but don't know if is it good car to keep. And how many years does it need to be an antique
According to Google: Vintage cars are from 1919 to 1930, Antiques are 1975 and older, and a Classic car is 1990 or older. So the RAV4 is almost a classic car. With the amount of repairs mine needs, I would definitely call it a classic car, or maybe just a clunker. Hagerty classic car insurance said they would insure my 1997 RAV4 last year. 2 years ago, they told me no.

another great video! Where I live there's lots of rain and humidity and since my RAV4 98' is parked outside it really suffers there. Last year I tried to fix the front lamps as there's constantly water inside after a few days of rain. I unsealed them and sealed them again very carefully... but I failed, same problem now :/ ... I also invested in sanding the whole chassis and painting with some anti-rust stuff, that helped definitely but who knows for how long. Maybe You should make a video on how to protect the RAV4 I against rust/water inside :-) Greetings from Poland!
Thanks! The easy way to prevent rust is spraying a rust protecting oil like fluid film inside the frame, and on exposed metal parts. It's easier to do than painting, and does a good job.

Do you have any idea how much weight this project added to the car? Also I'm guessing you didn't take actual dB measurements of the sound level before, but it would be cool to do a quantitative comparison with a job like this.
I didn't measure the sound, but Repair Geek did. Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/rnHbHJ1BQXA/v-deo.html
He Paul! Awesome vids really helpfull. I have one to so i know the drill. Mine has a snorkel though!
But i would really like to see a video about how to adjust the valve clearance. I hope you could help me out. Thanks!
Never mind... I found it on a local store! By the way my Rav4 96 has double sun roof so it made it harder to remove the ceiling cover
@@bobdavislumbro4047 You can try some other solvents like acetone or kerosene. Brake parts cleaner works, but it's too strong and removes paint.
@@LabCoatPaul yeah, I found the goo gone on a local store so all good!
Does you rear little windows seal work well? Mines get foggy n hard to defrost in cold weather. Just wondering.
I haven't had that problem, but I also don't drive my RAV4. Every car has small exhaust vent flaps in the back of the car. You'll see some small slits in the rear panels by where the shocks mount. Make sure these are not plugged or covered.
You deserve 20 K like for this video ❤️❤️❤️
@@LabCoatPaul excelente thank you
Very nice project
Holy sh*t! Too much work, but very nicely done! what a lucky RAV4!
What is the rear speaker size?
Might be a lot of work...but you get to drive a sweet RAV4 👍...and talk to people 😂
Animal!!!!!! Thx for the video!
I want to learn more because Rva4 is my car
Hello ..please make a video about fuel injector in rav4 3sfe..thanks❤

Thanks! Too bad our Rav4 has 4 doors, and probably even more holes in the floor. Great video though!
How many insulation did you used? Im planning to order online
another great video!
Maybe You should make a video on how to protect the RAV4 I against rust/water inside :-)
Greetings from Poland!
Thanks! The easy way to prevent rust is spraying a rust protecting oil like fluid film inside the frame, and on exposed metal parts. It's easier to do than painting, and does a good job.
Amazing mechanic/scientist
But you should’ve gone for Lexus LS400 style insulation
