    I love this. 1 paint 2 drops of thinner. For my thinner I am using a 80%vallejo thinner and 20% Vallejo flow improver mix ( I mix it up in a little paint dropper bottle). I could use water I guess because my whole house has filtered water which makes it soft.

    I found out distilled water works best with Vallejo paints. Thanks for the demo!

    • @soylencer
      @soylencer 4 місяці тому

      Generally speaking, you should use distilled, if not deionized water when creating solutions. If you use tap, you're adding minerals, metals, and other "contaminants.' Most of which are safe to drink (I'd still recommend a lead filter for drinking), but these particles can screw with things you add them to.
      If the water is too hard you can end up with cloudy deposits, if it's too soft it can get kind of soapy - I mean, most people use tap water and it's fine. But if you have a filter at the house, use the filtered water for your paint. If you have a distiller or even a dehumidifier, use that water. But it's less than a dollar to buy a jug of distilled or deionized water, and if cost is the reason you're not using the proper Thinner product, then a gallon of water is pennies and will last forever.
      Same goes for your car's coolant and washer tanks. If a chemical, or machine asks for water, assume it wants the purest water possible, unless they explicitly call for tap.

    He counted the thinner but not the paint, so I'm not sure if the ratio.
    Also was that Thinner Medium or Airbrush Thinner? (And if you would, what is the main benefit of the Airbrush Thinner over the Thinner Medium in this application?)

    Would you dilute Model Air and Panzer Aces the same as Game Color for an airbrush?

    • @vallejocolors
      @vallejocolors  4 місяці тому

      Hello Paul! You don't need to dilute Model Air as it is pre-thinned and you can use them straight from the bottle :) If you ever need it, add 2-3 drops of thinner for every drop of PA. With Game Color, you only need 2 drops of thinner for every drop of paint. Be aware these ratios can change depending on your needs or also weather conditions (dry and hot summer, for example) :)

    Do you also use flow improver? How do you decide between flow improver and thinner?

    • @vallejocolors
      @vallejocolors  4 місяці тому +4

      Hello Gerhard! No flow improver needed here :) Anyway, just as we said to other user, painters not always need the same amount of thinner and paint (depending on airbrush model, needle used, month of the year -hot or cold-) 😊 Thinner is used just to dilute the paint, but now.... imagine that it is summertime. If you use Flow Improver you will be "improving" the flow and delaying the drying of the paint. FYI: It is recommended to add 3 drops of Improver for every 10 drops of paint. ✨✨✨✨

    • @soylencer
      @soylencer 4 місяці тому

      I think the idea is that if you're expecting the paint to be in the airbrush for a prolonged time (like doing a whole army), then the Flow Improver keeps the paint a better consistency and prevents it from gumming up in the cup or dying into the needle before you're finished.
      To that end, I think it's a combination of drying inhibitor and thinner medium? Don't quote me on that.
      Most of the auxiliary bottles seem to be, to my observation, covering the same ground as one another. That is, they seem to be pre mixed trask-optimized ratios of base acrylic medium, thinning agents, drying inhibitor, and/or surfactants (and water, for suspension/rounding). This list also assumes that "thinning agents" aren't just more acrylic medium and water.
      So that is not to imply that they're a rip-off or anything, that's not my point. My point is that they're ready to go products for people who aren't interested in fussing with playing scientist at the paint table.
      Sorry this turned into a bit of an essay. But even this video said you can get away with water sometimes, but if you want consistent results, use the right additives. You can mix the additives/mediums because they are generally already part of the paint in different quantities, or you can buy the specific additive that does what you want. Or buy the paint that does what you want to begin with.
      Tldr: I appreciate that Vallejo has these options.

    Anyone else finding that these paints chip extremely easily? I am finding that even an hour after painting they are extremely fragile and almost flake right off when I rub them lightly. If my nail catches it wrong, woosh off the paint comes. So odd, and I am using the Vallejo primer and Games Workshop rattle can primer

      Hello Nick! We replied to your case in our Facebook group, so we are pasting the same reply that we wrote in our group, This way, more people can read and be helped if they encounter the same issue :)
      ➡Hello Nick, thank you so much for your post 🙂 Let's find out what is happening, but first, some tips and questions:
      1. What is the AK thinner that you are using? Our GC offers exceptional results, but we recommend our products because we are 100% sure of their compatibility. Make sure this thinner you are using is water-based and has no alcohol in its formula. Alcohol-GC is not compatible. Try with our thinner or water to test other options and check if this solves your problem.
      2. To achieve the best results when airbrushing our colors, we recommend using a compressor air pressure of 15 - 20 PSI. However, it seems like you are using a different higher pressure. Perhaps you could try adjusting the pressure to this suggested level and see if it improves your results?
      3. Check your GC thinned ratio. To achieve the desired consistency, you may use 2 drops of thinner for every 1 drop of paint. Just bear in mind that excessive thinning can compromise the paint's adherence power, so be careful not to overdo it. This will help ensure that your paint sticks to the surface effectively.
      Please, try these options and let us know by DM if this doesn't solve your difficulties. Also, you can check Angel Giraldez's UA-cam channel and our UA-cam channel. We both have some videos airbrushing our GC paints 🙂 First video we can recommend to you is: ua-cam.com/video/qKq54zTEqrE/v-deo.html

    What is the ratio? 8 drops of thinner and how many drops of paint?
    I see alot of WH minis are ysed. Can you also do this with aitbrush on say an infinity model? As not all models have such big plates and thus harder to airbrush. If anyone could do it you can 😊

    first of all, why does everyone use warhammer as example models? I do not have or ever intend to have warhammer minis. I paint many other minis.
    Second, a big blob of paint then counting out 8 drops of thinner and saying perfectly thinned without knowing the drops count of paint is useless. You're not helping Vallejo! A ratio of ?:8 does nothing.

      Warhammer games are currently most popular table top games, so this is propably a huge factor.
      Also, aside from WH minis, it's hard to get ones in with so fine adn many details without using printer - and monopose testers like the one in this video are cheap as hell (can be bought for 1$ per piece)
      i mean, these are my gueses at least

    • @vallejocolors
      @vallejocolors  4 місяці тому +4

      Hello Samy, regarding the ratio in Angel's video, use 4 drops of PAINT and 8 drops of THINNER (1:2). Anyway, please keep in mind that painters do not always need the same amount of thinner and paint (depending on the airbrush model, needle used, month of the year -hot or cold-).
      On the other hand, many people have GW models at home as it is a popular company, and we consider that practicing and watching a how-to video with the same model can make their learning easier. You can use whatever miniature you like, but this one just makes things more painless for them - at least, that is what we believe ✨👍🏻

    Da muss ich ganz deutlich wiedersprechen !
    Die schwarze Grundierung muss (!) verdünnt werden.
    Ich habe mehrere große Flaschen davon mittlerweile verbraucht und hatte einigen Ärger mit Klumpen Bildung, selbst bei neu gekauften Flaschen.
    Erst nachdem ich die neuen Flaschen bis oben hin mit Verdünner aufgefüllt, mehrere Stahlkugeln dazu getan habe, war das Problem fast gelöst. Aus der Erfahrung lasse trotzdem die Grundierung, egal welcher Farbton, immer noch durch ein Lacksieb in die Airbrush laufen. Böse Erfahrungen machen vorsichtig.
    Und immer ( !!! ) den Flow-Improver verwenden, da funktioniert es nochmal ne Ecke besser.
    Inzwischen verwende ich diesen Zusatz generell bei allen Acrylfarben und Probleme hatte deswegen nie.

    • @vallejocolors
      @vallejocolors  4 місяці тому +1

      Hello Markus! Thank you so much for your feedback! ✨
      The truth is that some painters may dilute the primer for personal preference or due to an occasional need, but our Surface Primer is designed to be used directly from the bottle to the airbrush without any additional dilution.
      If you are still having difficulties with the primer and can only use it in a certain manner, we will be delighted to assist you. You should have the freedom to choose how to use the product without worrying about encountering any issues.
      Furthermore, we want to point out that in the priming process, the needle used with the airbrush is quite important, since priming with a 0.15 mm needle is not the same as another 0.4 mm needle. In addition, the summer months can also influence the formation of clogs since the paint inevitably dries more easily than in humid and cold environments. Last but not least, don't forget to give your Surface Primer a good shake before using it. This special paint has a different consistency and needs a good mix, so don't be scared to shake it up for some minutes if you have to. It's worth it to get the best results.
      All of this is information to take into account and we hope that it can be useful to you and review it in case we have been able to help you ✌🏻😊
