There’s just something I love about mimir begging baldor to take him even though he literally isn’t of any use It really shows how much he cares about kratos and Atreus
Mimir will never forget the ones who rescued him from suffering for his entire life. Kratos and Atreus also found Mimirs other Eye, which finally gave Mimir the ability to see with both eyes back. People always talk about Atreus going beserk, because of Kratos death, but I believe Mimir will change that Future.
Mister Hamlicrazy123 I mean he was doing all that for ares then realized ares was a piece of shit then realized all the gods were pricks n didn’t care, then eventually lost any friends he had including all of sparta, then he met pandora felt some hope, was forced to basically kill her, then realized all the hard ships were partly his own fault for unquestioned devotion and opening Pandora’s box corrupting thr gods and Zeus even more then kills himself or tries too, too release hope too humanity or whatever instead of giving thr power back to a god, Athena. N people say the old games have no story, they’re literally like an old school tragedy
This really highlights kratos evolution he’s had several moments to completely yell Atreus’s ear off and lose his temper but you can see how much he pulls himself back and he’s trying to mold Atreus into more what his mom was not himself he said it before “she was better than a god”
He evolved alright, he chopped his last kid into two pieces xD. It an awkward topic isnt it? Imagine Kratos on his deathbed telling Atreus "Boy you had a sister, I cut her in her belly, if you can travel to the Greek underworld, assuming its still there, you can reunite with her."
@@gianghuynh9570 she's with her mother in elysium, basicaly paradise, and during chains of olympus kratos severed the connection to ever be able to get there so neither will autreus ..
the truth is that the developers wanted to create a new protagonist for this new gow, but the game would lose much commercial interest! So I think Kratos' personality is as different as the gameplay style
Kratos: “There are consequences in killing a god!” Atreus: “How do you know?!” Kratos: “I killed them all boy... *widens eyes* ... and it wasn’t enough.”
*Minutes later* *Kratos bashing door* Kratos: Freya! Freya: I still hate you, you killed my son Kratos: I KILLED THE BOY! Freya: ok you have to go to earth 6969 and fight superman. You have to weild thor's hammer and add kryptonite to it then bash superman to get his heart.
Kratos then got Vietnam styled flashbacks to when he had killed... everyone. Before turning the blade on himself in a final attempt to give the world hope. And unfortunately for Kratos... he survived.
@@Fungus8mycrab Then in GoW5 he kills off all the Norse gods and turns south. "You didn't think we had an Egyptian helmet and mentioned those gods for nothing did you? Your next"
Notice how Atreus kept using his Special move in quick succession despite the cool down time. I liked that attention to detail. Kratos said he was he was fighting carelessly. As if to say that he wasn’t fighting smart and wasting his special moves on weak enemies when it wasn’t needed.
That caught me by surprise at first, cause I remember not holding down square to use his Runic move and he he did it automatically. And I remember thinking to myself “ I didn’t tell you to do that..” really dope section of the game
I read on TV Tropes that sometimes (rarely really) when Kratos is in his near death state when he's on the ground ready for the resurrection stone, the prompt won"t show up at all during Atreus' edgy phase. Atreus can LEAVE YOU TO DIE. I have no idea if that's really true, but that's really cool if it is.
I like how Kratos asks his son to help him lift that stone, in order to make him feel more valued and necessary. Obviously Kratos didn't need whatever minuscule extra weight Atreus could have provided.
Atreus might have enhanced strength now that he has knowledge of his godhood. And it might ease the burden on kratos' back since i don't think divinity might prevent backache at his age.
Allmighty Berserker It’s gotta suck being only a talking head. Imagine hanging on the back of someone’s ass an entire journey, and the person could be gassy. Lol
@@friccle_ How so? The only thing he says that would count as cutting himself off would be “close your heart to it” but that’s not a wrong way to think, in fact they are literally walking targets so Kratos teaches him to kill when necessary and to not dwell on it bc if he didn’t fight back he’d be killed. As Kratos says “don’t feel for them because they will NOT feel for you”. And Kratos actually does go along with helping people except Kratos does it for the resources they may find while Atreus is doing it out of kindness. You can see in Ragnarok that Kratos has opened his heart and actually helps people for the sake of helping, so while Kratos was teaching Atreus to be harder Atreus taught Kratos to be softer and now they’re both at balance because of each other
@@yeezyasmr5473 man I remember the first time I did the punching thing with Zeus at the end I didn't know you could go on forever so I was just punching him for like 8 minutes straight like when the fuck this gonna end
Lmao next GoW Atreus got taken away by Thor to Asgard and he goes to Asgard to save his son and together they killed Odin. Or maybe Atreus was killed by Thor and Kratos seeks vengeance.
@@sorasarielcl the whole world got destroyed. Then he travelled to another "pantheon" or world. It was explained that pantheons has different worlds or like another solar system. That's why Poseidon and Ægir didn't share oceans, River Styx and Helheim are not colliding, etc. If it did share the same world the whole game won't make sense. I mean GoW changed a lot of things about Greek mythology. Greek gods can't die, but in the game they can. Kratos is loyal to Zeus, but in the game he went full rage mode and killed everyone. It was inspired or based on Greek mythology but aren't mythologically correct. I probably won't enjoy the original mythology of Kratos being a loyal pet to Zeus anyway.
@@acrocent9788 simple hephaestus tried to save his daughter from her fate but kratos being the ass he was back then cared for nothing more than revenge
If I remember correctly, Mimir mentioned how it's in the nature of gods to be the way they are (arrogant, selfish, etc.) and him and Freya also explain the contradiction of a god believing to be mortal is what caused Atreus's disease. Then it's possible telling him he's a god had the inverse effect and caused his god side to become dominant quickly, making him a bratty psycho. But as the story progresses (and he gets the shit beaten out of him a couple of times) the boy's humane side recovers and by the end, as Mimir put it, "lad's found his equilibrium".
Sindri's just out there to help them and build them weapons So what's the problem if he's chatty? Atleast it's about something good Atreus kept speaking about him being a god even though he hasn't shown any potential aside from language but nobody said a word
In the boi's defense, at 2:42, rather than being cocky it feels more like Atreus is just frustrated with his father. I mean, traveling with Kratos isn't exactly a trip to Disney land.
I agree, by this point, Atreus only really knows Kratos the soldier instead of Kratos the father. His anger, in Alfheim anyways, is totally understandable.
@@jaredgreathouse3672In retrospect it makes sense why Kratos was so distant to Atreus, as he knew Atreus held great power and wanted to ensure history didn't repeat itself, as Kratos murdered Zeus. Him coming off as uncaring wasn't intentional at all though; Kratos loves Atreus dearly but is afraid of what he's capable of.
It’s so wholesomely painful to watch Kratos pull himself back so much in how he disciplines Atreus. As a father, he had several moments where he had every right to SMACK the FIRE out of Atreus. But he didn’t. He opted for holding his rightful fury, and working with Atreus, rather than working him over. It really shows how he wants to naturally guide Atreus into molding himself into being a much better man than he (Kratos) was in his youth. It’s also interesting to see how Kratos is being quite pivotal in whether or not Atreus develops into Loki, the God of Treachery, Mischief, and needless Violence, or Loki, the God of Goodness, Selflessness, and Virtue.
Your last sentence is the craziest part. When this boy started snapping that mouth I used to get the chills laughing like Ik I would whoop his ass and I know Kratos, this lil nigga don’t know what he talking bout! & loving how they’re showing you his Loki potential and the true adolescence and ignorant arrogance a child can have. It would both make sense and suck if Kratos’ death made him into his worst version, but I’d love to see the development. I don’t know if you’ve played Devil May Cry 4 but it would be amazing if one day we play as Atreus and the hardest fight in the game is against Kratos, even if it isn’t the main battle like when Nero fights Dante in the beginning of DMC 4. Anyway you’re 100 percent right.. it is crazy how pivotal Kratos is in both universes. Even look at how Atreus effects the world around him. Anger causing lightening and nearly dying causing the world to storm, wouldn’t have happened if Kratos didn’t come to this land and mate with another powerful person like Faye. Loki is a prodigy of Greek history & Norse History.. Titans, Giants, and Gods..crazy!
@@TrueMiz there's. But you can hope that will be at least one or two, nothing more than that. And is not like a right to calm yourself down while beating someone, but to make the kid know they are wrong.
Prima Harianto Kratos was a Spartan and was trained to be devoid of remorse, he was also hate filled because of certain events. Atreus was a kind kid but became a twat because he thought he was above everybody else.
I think it is a good character development. He came to term with being a god and became mature and level-headed toward the end of the game. It also cement the bond with his father and later motivate him to destroy all the Aesir when Kratos dies. In the og myth it was the loss of his family to the Aesir gods (his three children Hel, Midgardsormr and Fenrir) that changed Loki from being a for-the-lulz trickster to a seething malicious force that manipulated the event of Baldur's death and countless attempts to undermine the Aesir's power.
My guess is Kratos dies but Hel (Loki/Atreus daughter and Kratos granddaughter) lets him go back to the land of the living and he sees what Atreus has become and the war he's started against the Aesir and helps him obviously.
Miles Higgs I always visioned this as well expect when kratos comes back from hel instead of siding with his son he has to deal with Loki and trying to convince him to come back to the light before it’s too late but kratos still kills gods on his way to save Atreus
I really think that all the God's (Greek and Norse) are so much more interesting BECAUSE they're fallible and human. There's a reason Kratos isn't (or hasn't yet) laid waste to Jesus or YHWH, because the religion they're part of projects them as all seeing and knowing, so much more... inhuman, than Odin, Thor and others who, despite their powers, are every bit as human, greedy, jealous, emotional, and so on as we are
That moment when Mimir stood against Kratos and talked rough to him, about Atreus becoming everyone's problem. He has some guts, I'll give that. Also, the best friend Kratos had ever
Mimir was, unsurprising, the voice of reason here. Mimir is just giving outside criticism. Sure Atreus ain't his kid, but come on, even Kratos by this point should've foresaw what destruction someone with uncontrolled anger like Atreus could bring if left unchecked
@@jaredgreathouse3672 I don't think Kratos didn't realize, only he didn't know what to do or how to interfere, maybe cuz he had just shed away that more aggressive and cold attitude towards Atreus that Mimir said would make him lose him, and he was hesitating to go back to it since Atreus had just barely survived a sickness caused in part by that same treatment he gave Atreus previously. In part, that's why Mimir's complaints were valid, since he reassured Kratos of something he also feared but was still hesitant to deal with or even trying to ignore as he does with his past
The fact that Mimir said to Baldur to take him instead, it really makes me respect him a lot more, he is actually the only person who can call Kratos brother, and a friend
I know that Atreus is being more than a bit of a shitheel at this point, but in all fairness, Kratos is purposefully not telling him a lot, both in guidance and as answers to his questions.
S U R V I V E but it’s even harder to watch your son become everything you didn’t want him to be simply because you couldn’t get a few things off your chest. It’s just a road where the bumps are all the way at the end.
S U R V I V E it does change shit m8, not the outcome of course , that’s what I said lmao , it’s still the same road , one just gets the bumps out first before the other.
The Lucid Gamer I mean... him telling Atreus was a God did turn him into an ass. Kratos wanted to keep Atreus from becoming him. He does open in the end, and both parties are stronger because of it. That is until he saw the very last prophecies on the wall....
Him screaming "STAY! AWAY! FROM MY SON!!!" as he beats Baldur into a pulp is so touching and shows that he loves his son. :,'3 But nah in all seriousness there were a lot of times where I thought Kratos would be raging mad at Atreus for even being smug and sarcastic towards him, but Kratos seems more patient than I thought and actually tries to talk him out of it and indulge his talk rather than get mad.
@@ana-ds4zb i feel bad for him too Atreus was very rude to him imagine the crowd looking at him like this dad never teaches his son manners Kratos would be hurt
@@luisben101233 yes because at the end kratos said that it was Faye baldur was tracking all along and baldur said I thought you'd be bigger at the beginning when you meet him
Sometimes when I got this anger the light would flick for just a second in the bathroom. People with pent out anger need a way to channel it into something more productive and creative, as well as something they actually like.
well kratos was never liked be people as far as I recall, I mean people thought he was badass, but no on "liked" him. As for Atreus, we can see that Kratos is doing his best to save and train Atreus, and Atreus is just being a jerk
Kratos is seriously the best dad ever. What stronge nerves. He did not hurt atreus physically even once. My dad would smack the back of my head right after I'd ask him "Hunt dear, okay. Which direction" *smack*
I really like the direction they went here. Its a slippery slope having the knowledge and power of a God and Kratos knows this better than anyone. Seeing Atreus start to slide into that mindset coupled with the Spartan Rage his father was known for is terrifying and probably a good reason why Kratos was so resistant to tell him about his heritage sooner.
soumanasya dutta My biggest issue including the kids is not dealing with my emotional hurt/pain and fear and I had to act all intellegent all the time to hide my painful feelings away.
@16:39 it seems like Atreus doesn’t remember he even killed Modi like that. When I was playing the game, his sudden personality change after finding out he was a God seemed very out of character for Atreus as we had gotten to know him. Atreus even later thinks him killing Modi was “only an illusion”. Either his rage was so strong he lost his senses, or potentially a higher power (fate) is making him lean towards a more vengeful god, as Loki is in traditional Norse lore after his family and himself are tormented by the Aesir. Since the Fates were in God of War 3, there is an equivalent in Norse Mythology. The Norns ruled the destiny of gods and men, carving their future into the World Tree’s trunk. Possibly Atreus is being influenced by them?
There is a theory that "Loki" is actually a split personality in Atreus that was made due to his godhood and mortalhood being separated for much of his life. His body couldn't handle his power or "sickness" and so all his power/rage/potential became "Loki" which he simply couldn't handle when he thought he was mortal but then got overwhelmed with when he learned he was a god because unlike Kratos as a boy Atreus has far more powerful magical abilities that he couldn't funnel out like Kratos did by training.
Sounds like he's simply ruthless and doesn't care for his enemies. Forgetting about killing a God, unlike Kratos, he felt remorse for his actions - Atreus only acknowledged it, and seemingly didn't show remorse for killing Modi; let alone being totally bitchy at times. Additionally, he's not evil nor good; part Aesir and Jotunn - every God has evil in them, just like ourselves. The bits he said that triggered me the most were "not like you'd even care if she was." and "carry her yourself" with that tone of voice. He's an asshole, and is bound to be as he's Loki.
@@whitelampmrz he did at one point say he felt bad about killing all the elves but then says he knows he did it because he had God things to do. His mortal side is his empirical side but it's very small considering neither of his parents is full mortal like Kratos mom was. I think that makes it a much bigger challenge for me.
There is a theory video on UA-cam that he was maybe possesed by his grandfather ZEUS himself, because for example when he said "We are sick of little people's little problems" and then lightning struck, what i think he has some abilities like Zues like lightning manipulation and weather manipulation
I swear if Kratos was younger and he had the current mindset he has in the current game meanwhile him still having Old Strength Baldur could've been dead since the start
Baldur can't be affected by physical or magical attacks well atleast before he got stabbed with the missletow , however this kratos is holding back alot since his son is there
Plus he's more calm in this time not like past gow games where he just rushes the guy and obliterates him with everything around him and we kinda see that at the beginning when he holds hands with him (he splits the area to half) and if you noticed kratos was beating the living shit out of baldur 80% out of the time and if he wasn't invunrable he would of probably been beaten in the first meeting
3:20 "one of us must remain focus" I agree, when kratos got distracted by his vision fighting zeus in hel, he was reminded by atreus too, to remain focus...
This entire arc was just Kratos being seconds away from pulling that little gremlin over his knee and causing Ragnarök himself and it had me in stitches.
@@jacoblevenson7934 doubtful considering kratos saved all of the Valkyries (excluding Freya because she lost her wings) and not to mention kratos killed baldur Odin's son and magni and modi were killed as well (even though kratos didn't kill one of them but Odin wouldn't know that) not to mention fucking up all of Odin's plans on the way
Bro,Atreus came close to being the soul reaped out of him for a whole lotta times Plus in 12:06 You can see even tho all the shit atreus put him through he still is ready to rip the world in half for his son
0:57 When Atreus starts to show his ass, you can see Kratos clench his fist, clearly none too pleased with how his son is treating Sindri. Great little detail.
The entire time in Helheim when Mimir dropped all sense of comic relief in his speech and spoke in such a flat, disappointed, and annoyed/angry tone which only heightened when he spoke to Atreus directly was impactful asfuck. It made ME feel like i was in trouble. Mimir’s character since finding him was joyous and smartassy, and the 180 was perfectly justified and done so well. It wasnt over the top or exaggerated at all. It was perfect
17:03 this scene makes me think that Atreus actually will lead to Rangarock unwittingly. Just look at his reaction to watching himself kill Modi, he is clearly not gonna be in control of himself.
I love how Atreus speaks, it’s not a full 180 switch from how he acted, it’s just him acting more arrogant and confident with a slight smug attitude, it makes sense and I’m glad the writers did this in way that’s good but not perfect, I think maybe a little more subtlety was needed but besides that I like this part of the story

This really highlights kratos evolution he’s had several moments to completely yell Atreus’s ear off and lose his temper but you can see how much he pulls himself back and he’s trying to mold Atreus into more what his mom was not himself he said it before “she was better than a god”
if kratos wouldn't be able to suppress his rage, the game would have ended right there with kratos killing yet another god.

Possibly Atreus is being influenced by them?
either that or Atreus is a liar...but yeah it seemed like he genuinely couldn't recall killing Modi

History teacher : "the greek gods are not real. They're only a part of history"
Me : "DAMN YOU KRATOS."
I swear if Kratos was younger and he had the current mindset he has in the current game meanwhile him still having Old Strength Baldur could've been dead since the start
Baldur can't be affected by physical or magical attacks well atleast before he got stabbed with the missletow , however this kratos is holding back alot since his son is there
Amin Barray atfirst i thought he was holding back then i got thinking that he actually got weaker but now im actually thinking that you are correct
Yeah, he'd be dead for a few minutes before he regenerated.
Gods get stronger as they age. It's just that kratos is wiser and is holding back
3:20 "one of us must remain focus" I agree, when kratos got distracted by his vision fighting zeus in hel, he was reminded by atreus too, to remain focus...
11:09
"You dare use my spell against me, Boy!"
Bratreus
Anders Borgman you didn't get it it's bratreus
This entire arc was just Kratos being seconds away from pulling that little gremlin over his knee and causing Ragnarök himself and it had me in stitches.
6:58 please tell me I'm not the only one here to call out the fact that he voice cracked so hard. "Cause thats what we do to our enemies rIGht"
Commander Comrade rIgHt IM HOWLING OMG 🤣🤣💀
''enough about odin and his whole stupid family '' that line, lol ,,,, atreus has confirmed something about the next GOW.
Vanir will be the enimies next game. Kratos and Atreus screw up so munch they join the Aesir.
"There are consequences to killing a god" Kratos knows this VERY Well.
Locusts and droughts and zombies, oh my
I think the descent into Tyr's temple is when the cockiness really starts. Dismissing the elves conflict just because he and kratos are gods.
0:57 When Atreus starts to show his ass, you can see Kratos clench his fist, clearly none too pleased with how his son is treating Sindri. Great little detail.
"Show his ass"
It took every ghost of the gods he killed to hold him back from slapping the skin off Atreus.
Spanking Time!
Imagine a mechanic where everytime Atreus talks back to Kratos after he finds out about his godhood, the rage bar goes up by a tiny portion.
Oh, yeah good idea
17:03 this scene makes me think that Atreus actually will lead to Rangarock unwittingly. Just look at his reaction to watching himself kill Modi, he is clearly not gonna be in control of himself.
18:21 that transisition.. so smooth
11:56 me and my brother when my mom leaves the room
Hahah 😂
"Fine carry her yourself"
Oh my God. The amount of Restraint Kratos has shown is Incomprehensible.
Aterus plays a huge role in the story because when he was sick the world turned dark, when gets upset the lightning and weather changes
The patience that Kratos acquired over time is portrayed in a majestic way. I love this game.
