The vibrating instrument dials and mirrors on tick over look worryingly fragile! No doubt the instrument pods will be very expensive to replace when they fall apart! It looks a lovely bike, I am almost tempted. I understand the boxer engine vibration is part of the character of the bike but surely it compromises the integrity of the electrical components. Thanks for uploading.
Hi Waka, thanks for viewing and your time to comment. I love the look of this bike and the many variants. It’s an expensive bike so should hold together ok but I under what you are saying. For the price you could choose from many other bikes. The boxer engine on this one is tuned to rumble a bit more than on the other bikes that hold this engine and that is what people buying this style of bike want I suppose. Thanks again and when you are out next… Ride Safe…
Thank you for quick response. At the moment I am riding a KTM 1290 SDR 2022 and i agree with your comments from your very good review of the SDR ie you have to maintain a lot of concentration when riding the SDR. The BMW R9T seems a more relaxed ride, lower seat height more upright seating position etc. But will I miss the handling and torque of the SDR through the twisties. Only way is to test ride one I guess but not always easy to get a test ride here in SW France Barrie
Hi Again, I love the SDR to be honest, I’ve been trying to get a ride out on the touring version of this bike but my local dealer never have a demonstrator. Personally I would stick with the SDR over a R9T given the choice simply because I think the SDR is more versatile. The ride position is not crazily aggressive. In fact. If you really want to change from the SDR I would recommend trying and R1250R. I think that would be a more gradual step down from the SDR. Anyway good luck with getting a test ride and when you are out next Zzz Ride Safe!
Great review on that well done I have an exact twin to the one that you’re writing and have some of the same feedback port just to bring you up to speed I’ve clocked a 500 mile day on mine and I had no issue with it at all right safe remain upright
Hi Michael, Thanks for viewing and taking the time to comment. Glad you enjoyed the review. Nice to hear over long miles this bike stays comfortable. It’s a beautiful bike and whilst that should never be the only reason to own a bike, I think this one does a great job of having fun, functionality & great looks! All the best and when your out next …. Ride Safe!
I did test ride this bike, and did love it for the 2 hour jaunts in the country-side. Sound, looks and technology fit perfectly together. It is quite fast off the mark and flickable. So what did I buy? A GS ! It can do everything well! Boring? Absolutely not! If i could have a second bike , this would be it. Thank you for another wonderful video! Like your understated, mature approach... for adult riders.🙂
Hi JVL, thanks very much for viewing, commenting and sharing your experience here on the Chanel. I’ve still not got around to trying the GS range out but that will be the next on the list when I get back over to Cannon Motorcycles. I agree if I can only have one bike I would probably not have this one, but it was a lovely bike to ride and overall did impress me and exceeded my expectations. I appreciate your kind comments and am glad you liked this video. Cheers and of course, when your out next... Ride Safe!
I own the Scrambler version and it is a joyful bike. It was a pity that you couldn’t catch the engine sound on this video like probably was your intentions but I already know how well the bike sounds. Maybe it could be relevant for other viewers of the channel that didn’t yet had the opportunity to ride this BMW model. Anyway, I agree with your opinion about it. I had two GS’s in the past, they’re good but for me, not so fun to ride as the NineT. For traveling With a pillion and luggage I prefer the RT as I don’t go off-road with such sophisticated and expensive bikes. For the road and long distance, the BMW 1250 RT is the ride!
Hi Brito, thanks for your comments and shared experience. Thanks for watching also. Yes I should have got the exhaust sound and possibly forgot! I agree with most of what you say on the different BMW bikes. Also only someone with lots of money is going to really use any GS properly off road! All the best and thanks for taking the time to comment. When you are out next Ride Safe!
Hi Tim, yes I know I corrected this in the text of the video at a few points. Sorry buddy! Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to comment, especially if something is not right! On the bike walk around I mention the engine incorrectly twice and put up correction text notes. Possibly I mention the 1250 at other points also. Apparently this is the last BMW bike to have the 1200 still being manufactured with on new bikes. All the best and when your out next Ride Safe!
Hi Nick, thanks for viewing and your comments. So, as for cleaning spokes they will be a nightmare! Especially if your like me and you like to keep your bike clean throughout the season. You will get a disc lock on the front and rear disc no issues but if your planning to use a chain your better off putting it through a part of the frame below the seat as wheels can be removed all too easily. All the best and when your out next… Ride Safe!
I pulled up a pic of the speedo of a vintage R90 to compare the graphics to this one. The vintage one is obviously designed to read at-a-glance or even with peripheral vision (as they were back then). This modern one appears to be designed to be read only when the bike is stopped and through the reading part of one's bifocals (let's be honest here: A lot of the people who can afford and want this bike are getting on in years. I'm getting on in years, want this bike or a speed twin, but, sigh, can't afford it right now.) But those speedo graphics are ridiculous...
Hi Boilermaker, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I agree the Speedo is a little tricky to read but this is a bike made to look nice and feel cool when you are riding and some functionality always suffers when that is the case. No bike is perfect, but as retro bikes go, this one is pretty close😃. Hope you get the money together soon to get the bike of your dreams! All the best and when your out next… Ride Safe!
Hi Joseph, for me personally I would get the R1250R simply because it’s a more rounded machine that is more usable in so many scenarios. The R9T is more of a sunny Sunday machine only, i’m sure you could use it for much more regular use and longer mileage but they are 1250r it’s a machine to go for if you can only have one. In my opinion 😀. Good luck choosing. All the best and Rude Safe!
Hi Painter Chi, Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Actually the bike is surprisingly quick off the line and when I searched up the actual 0-60 times the R NineT is marginally quicker than the R1250R! Whether the sites giving the stats are correct or not I cannot say, but essentially she is more than quick enough off the line! All the best and when your out next ...Ride Safe....
I do own a 2015 R9T. I tried a R1250R, the LC is more souple and you go faster without noticing it. During my last ride, I was with a friend and his Monster 821. We were surprised how quicker the 9T was at all gear (2-3-4-5-6) rolling starts around 2000 rpm to 3000 rpm on my bike (6 was at lower rpm to respect speed limit as much possible). And from 5000 rpm no game anymore. That was really surprising! The 9T is really a good bike
Hi Perry, Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. To answer your question, it didn't feel as quick but apparently its 0-60 is only 2.9 seconds (2016 model stats from Wikipedia) so actually its going to be very very close! Overall I was very impressed with the bike. All the best and when your out next ... Ride Safe...
Hi Hans, I would say overall the R1250R is more comfortable than the rninet but there is not a huge difference. If I had to choose between them, the R1250R would win. Overall it’s just a better all round motorbike. Over tougher roads, yes the R1250R is better for comfort. Hope this helps. Cheers and when your out next ….. Ride Safe….
Hi Hans, Welcome to the R1250R owners club… congratulations!!! Wishing you many happy hours of riding and tinkering as you get to know your new best friend !! All the best and Ride Safe!
The only thing i don’t like about this bike is wind protection. I ride in town most of the time so not a big problem at all. It has everything, the style, smooth, comfortable riding position but not as bulky as the GS
Hi Kay, thanks for viewing and taking the time to comment! Yes no wind protection and you cannot put a screen on one of these (in my opinion!). I agree it’s a great bike and it’s one which can do long distances but I know a lot of the use for this style of bike will be pottering around locally which is equally valid riding. All the best and when your out next, Ride Safe!

It isn't the 1250 motor, it is the old air-oil cooled engine from years ago.

How easy is it to clean them spokes?
Can you fit a decent bike lock with them?
I need answers.

Nice review. How quick is it compares to R1250R? Feel sluggish compated to the new bigger water cooled but heavier 1250?
