Hi Everyone!

This is my next new bike review and this time I'm out on the Brand New 2024 KTM 990 DUKE!
I loved this bike for its ease of use and accessible / useable power on the road, so much fun. Comfortable to ride, simple switch gear and clear and precise screen.
Lots of modes with tech pack added to play with.
I hope you enjoy the review and of course if you have any comments or questions or then please do let me know.
Big thanks to JIM AIM RACING in BRAINTREE once again for letting me take this bike out.

      Hi There! Thanks for watching and for your question. So far as insurance is concerned I am not sure exactly how declaring the bike is in a secure metal shed affects the premium (against leaving it on your drive or on the street for example) but I have had no problems with insurance as such. Declaring the bike is in the Garage always gives the lowest premium I believe and also having a floor anchor should help. Currently mine is in the tin, with a floor anchor, with 2 disc locks and inside my garage! I have had zero issues with the tin itself and have had mine since 2020. I even paid them to come and take the tin down and move it to my new house a few years ago and it’s still totally solid today. Hope this helps. All the best and when you are out next Ride Safe.

      Hi Eric, Thansk for watching and for taking the time to comment. I have never used the set up pairing the phone and headset to the NAV I have but essentially so long as you get the functionality of being able to use the switch gear for answering and rejecting calls it’s all good! All the best.

    I have had a similar issue on the odd occasion with my R1250RT...really slow to turn over initially after the first start but up to now has managed to start on the immediate second attempt. Like you , I carry a jump starter just in case but never actually used it yet. To get to the battery on the RT, you have to remove 3 screws which is just a little awkward so I fitted some battery posts to a bracket under the riders seat and wired these directly to the battery so if I do ever use the jump starter, I only have to remove the seat with the key....also useful for connecting my heated jacket lead on the odd occasion I need to use it. Cheers Dave

      Hi David, thanks for watching and taking the time to come in with your experience. Really appreciate that. Having the jumpstart kit is a big confidence booster for when I’m going further a field. There seems to be many different manufacturers of these types of devices and at about £40 a go it’s well worth the investment! All the best and when you are out next… Ride Safe…

      @TheWrittleRider 29 днів тому

      Hi Loctidy, do you mean you want to disable the alarm and just use the security of the lock? If that’s the case you can just remove the battery from the underside of the lock. If I have misunderstood please just let me know. Glad to answer all the questions you may have. Thanks for watching and for your question.

      @@TheWrittleRider No its to make sure the lock doesnt go off in your pocket or bouncing around in your top box. If the pin is "Out" it can get pushed and popped back in and you end up like a Police bike going down the road ;-) Ive seen others that allow you to pop in but not arm. Thx for the response BTW.

    • @TheWrittleRider
      @TheWrittleRider 29 днів тому

      @@Loctidy Oh right! Yes I see that is a problem as it’s very sensitive! I normally carry it in my Ruck sack and have not had it going off but in your pocket where there is not much space, or top box (rigid metal or plastic) I suppose it’s easier for it to be knocked enough for it to activate the alarm. Definitely some kind of cushioning in the top box would help😁

      Hi Magic, I understand this bike will split people much like the GS1300 as these are totally different bikes now. All I would say is see it in the flesh. During my bike walk around recording a chap living close to where I was walked over to see the bike. I think he was won over a little bit by seeing it in real life. I love the 1250 GS / GSA and definitely would be split between the 1300 and 1250 if I had the cash! Thanks for viewing and giving your opinion, it’s what this is all about. All the best.

      Around 6 years ago fitted a Skyrich Lithium to the Microlight as weight is crucial, found it out lasted lead acid and performed exactly same. Since then fitted one to all bikes owned, the BMW lead acid is 4.9 kilos, a direct Skyrich equivalent 0.9 kilos, 4 kilos weight saving is nice and bike's never hinted at not starting, any use?

      @ Hi Kevin, Thanks for viewing and for sharing this information with me. Once the BMW Battery is out of warranty I will definitely look into this. The bike actually failed to start one day as I was filling up next to the BMW showroom so I pushed it across to them and they looked at it there and then for me but still said there was no issue! I mean, it didn’t start so the kind of is!!!

    Great review, totally agree on colours and styling, might be imagination but swapped 4.9 kilo lead/acid battery for 800gram Skyrich, (performed admirably in two previous bikes and microlight) seemed to reduce sideways weight against tipping? Intend practicing low speed manoeuvres in deserted car park as weight cannot be ignored. Low seat option suited my 28" inside leg!

      Birdsall1989 - if you contact the company at armadillo they will actually dismantle and reassemble for you for a charge. I moved two years ago and they unassembled and reassembled at my new home. Bolting together is a fairly simple process but you’ll probably find some of the joints are glued also.

    Just tried your instruction video, ignition off I can just (only just) get full weight on stand pedal, but no margin left. Weigh 168lb so also need to lift and pull backwards to make sure. Switch ignition on and stand is a lot easier, why? Did wonder if setting suspension button onto 'high' instead of Auto would make this even easier?

      @TheWrittleRider 2 місяці тому

      Hi Kevin, thanks for watching and for sharing your experience. Very interesting to hear that it’s easier to get the bike onto the centre stand with the engine running. The suspension settings will slightly decrease or increase the height the bike suspension sits at so I do agree that this is going to make a difference. Thanks again and do let us know how you get on with the higher setting. I’ll also try this out next time I’m out with the bike. Thanks and all the best…

      Hi Kevin, just to let you know, I tried this today with the engine on and it was easier so you are totally correct! Watching the video (excellent by the way) when using this technique, once on the stand the rear wheel on my '22 R1250R is at least 30mm off the floor. Putting her on the stand is only just within capability even hauling upwards hard on the rear passenger rails, so it seems either my centre stand is high or the bike suspension lower than yours?

      Well, I think it’s definitely a bike that is not mentioned that much. When I bought mine in 2020 there were literally no videos on UA-cam on the R1250R and it was one of the reasons I started my channel to share information about the bike. It’s a bike that can do everything, it can move you emotionally, it can do all the boring stuff well, it’s comfortable yet quick, and it’s made so well and i personally love how the bike looks. I don’t really think there is a naked bike out there that does everything as well in one package. It’s not as shouty as a Superduke or a Ducati Monster and more refined than any Japanese or English made pretender. I am biased, I own one, I love the bike and I honestly would not swap her out for anything currently on the market. Thansk for watching and Ride Safe!

    I have a GSA and have about 1100 miles on my MXR now. Definitely not as comfortable as my GS, but compared to my old HP4, Its really comfortable. That being said. 2nd time i rode it, i easily did a 500 mile ride on it. Also i bought all the stuff for a s1000XR so i can run the hard bags. Its all very simple.

      Hi Marshall, Thansk very much for viewing and for sharing your experience. I definitely can see that this bike will open up the possibility for anyone wanting a super sport who cannot deal with sitting in a sporty position. Thanks for advising on the hard cases also. You own two amazing bikes so I am very jealous! I absolutely loved my time with the MXR. All the best and when your out next Ride Safe.

      Hi Bob, I can only assume you are asking why on the title of the video? I’ll be honest and say I don’t ride many sports bikes so in total honesty I would not know enough to begin saying if this was the best sports bike ever. It was more about having a catchy title to get people to click. That said it must be there as the most comfortable and multi dimensional sports bike out there as it is giving access to sports bike riding to more than only people who can sit in that sporty ride position which does inevitably end in aching wrists, knees and back for taller, less supple riders!

      @@TheWrittleRider thanks for the reply. My question was more one of bewilderment at the whole... sticking that much hp in a tall touring bike, but your video (& reply) explain it very nicely. I've been away from proper biking so long, that bike is maybe a bit beyond my comprehension, a series of slightly insane concepts, if you like. I think I might be a bit of a "less is more" type of bloke. Maybe one day I'll ride one and I might actually get it. 😄 Loved the video though, & thanks again for taking the time to reply. 👍

      @@bobritter7197 I ride a V4 Tuono Factory and am buying the M1000XR simply for the close performance of the Aprilia and the comfort to ride in Europe, feels much lighter than the Ducati Multi RS and appealed to me and many other 50yr plus guys that want the superbike performance feel and just need a little more comfort :)

      Hi Chris, thanks for viewing and taking the time to comment. Glad you liked the video. While I was on the bike, I didn’t think it was uncomfortable, but then I got on a GS afterwards. let’s just say it was like getting onto a comfortable sofa after sitting on a wooden chair😁… don’t get me wrong, by Sports bike standards it’s a very comfortable bike… but not as comfortable as a GS or your R1250 R for sure. I would recommend you at least take one for a spin though as it’s a wonderful bike… you just need to try and not lose your license though as it’s so easy to go very very very quick! All the best and when you are out next… Ride Safe.

      Hi Thomas, it’s just a long press up or down on the menu button which makes the control swap from TFT to NAV. Have another go, you need to hold for 2-3 seconds for it to change. Thansk for watching and for your question. All the best and Ride Safe!

    Thank you for posting. I cannot afford one of these, but out of interest tried to get an insurance quote. My current bike is a BMWR1250R which I have been riding for over 3 years (4th summer), and my insurance cost me £260 in June (full comp. + trimmings). My bike before that was a Suzuki GXR750R. My current status is: Employed in an innocuous job. Full no claims on a bike. Full no claims in a car. Zero points on licence. No health impediments. No convictions. Keep bike, along with son's bike, covered in a locked compound at my home. Have datatool and a heavy duty chain lock. Live in Rural Norfolk (not exactly a crime crentre) Just want social use cover (use car to get to work). However..... On compare websites, got no quotes for this bike??? What do they want ? To have my home surrounded by a shark infested moat, with 24/7 manned machine gun towers and barbed wire fencing surrounding my bikes? If I run into money, will have to give this bike a miss. Not a moan, just FYI. Not sure if BMW are aware of this. However did get quotes for an H2 and a ZX10, but a lot of money (ca £1200) plus not interested in the bikes.

      Hi Malcolm, thanks for watching and for your most amusing comments. Sounds ridiculous that you were not even offered any quotes. I know bike theft in the UK is a big problem (I had a bike stolen a few years back from my driveway) but based on your statement of facts it’s very surprising! Oh well, when you do win the lottery you’ll have to move to another country and then buy the bike 😁. All the best and Ride Safe!

      @TheWrittleRider 5 місяців тому

      Hi and thanks for watching. There is a calculation dependant on your weight for this and it’s explained on page 108 of the bikes manual. To start, turn the adjuster as far as it will go counter clockwise and then act as follows depending on your weight: 75kgs - turn adjuster clockwise 3.5 turns 85kgs - 5 Turns clockwise 95kgs - 7 Turns clockwise 105kgs - 8 Turns clockwise For two up riding it’s 18.5 Turns clockwise. Hope this helps… all the best and Ride Safe!

    Hi dear and thanks for yours very interesting video! I also think about r1250r or previous r1200r. How do you think - r1250r worth +40% cost price on our aftermarket for shiftcam, new led display etc, or better buy r1200r for a much enjoyable price? Thanks.

      @TheWrittleRider 5 місяців тому

      Hi Alex, thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. I would say it not worth Paying thousands more if you can find a low mileage 1200. Even if you test ride both bikes back to back it would be hard to really notice much of a difference. I loved my R1200 also and ride wise it’s almost identical. Good luck with your decision!

    Great a button. I watched a previous video on this bike. where the heated grips had to be selected through the TFT screen. HEEEELLP. I ride an R1250R, it has a button. I am a simple guy, I know where I am with a button, which I only use in cold weather, or more accurately if my hands get cold. Why must it be computerised????

    • @TheWrittleRider
      @TheWrittleRider 5 місяців тому

      Totally agree!! Where Bmw have changed the on off button for the 1300 they have had to move some buttons around. Unfortunately the very simple heated grips button from previous bikes has been sacrificed. Thanks for watching and for commenting … all the best…
