All versions are the same graphically, but the GameCube version runs the smoothest. The locked 30 in the PS2 version and the variable 30-60 in the Xbox version can’t compare to the locked 60 FPS in the GameCube version. This reason alone makes the GC version the best overall.
@Queen Adrian The GameCube version is indeed the best version in terms of graphics and performance. The Xbox version is sloppy when it comes to aliasing and performance, and besides the In game Dolby Digital support, the game doesn’t use any of Xbox’s strengths to reasonable effect. It feels like the Xbox version was an afterthought because of the jagged textures and choppy performance, it just doesn’t feel like a good port. The PS2 version clearly falls in last place for obvious reasons, it feels unoptimized and the long load times is definitely a problem, but at least it has more language options as well as anti aliasing that is comparable to that of the GameCube version, even beating the Xbox version in this regard. 0:40 On this shot, you can see the Xbox version has the worst aliasing, since this version lacks any sort of anti aliasing filter which makes the graphics the most jagged of the three versions. I should also mention that the PS2 and GameCube versions have a trick that allows you to have 2 players in story mode. The Xbox version doesn’t allow this for some reason.
@@raphaelmartins6529 Yeah. The 6th gen Sonic games never played particularly well on PS2. Those issues are hardly surprising for me considering that the PS2 versions of every Sonic game are notorious for having the most amount of issues compared to the other versions.
@@TS-yz3ud The issue is due to the lack of anti-aliasing. The GCN and PS2 versions use anti-aliasing and Xbox doesn’t for whatever reason. Normally anti-aliasing makes the textures look blurrier and easier to look at but as far as I can see even without anti-aliasing, in this case textures in the Xbox version look grainier than they do on GameCube and PS2.
Had this on PS2 since I was 6! I have the OG Xbox, so, I’d like to try that out just for the fun of it. Edit: There are some sounds on the PS2 version that sounds different than Xbox & GC, so I prefer the PS2 sounds (obviously).
I just still use the PS2 version as I like the button symbols of Playstation. Plus Gamecube seems to have scrambled the button layout likely because of the bazaar controller vs the traditional diamond layout.
It seems like this game was developed to be Gamecube exclusive since it's the most consistent one, and also makes more sense cuz the adventure games were exclusive to the gamecube back then.
Seems like it since after going third-party, SEGA made a lot of games and ports to Gamecube before making multiplatform titles. So it would make sense that they're more experienced with Gamecube the most.
The Xbox was more powerful than the GameCube, but the GameCube was no slouch in regards to power, certainly outperformed the Dreamcast and PS2. Although the GameCube's disc format was a major flaw in its design.
The graphics of this game had no business running on ps2 and gamecube. Looked more like an early 360/ps3 game. But they managed to do it. The color is so amazing, characters look great. Gc version is the best which im shocked by, thought the xbox was significantly more powerful.
Once I heard out there that a member of the development team of this game said that the Game Cube version was the main one and now I understand it goes all the time at 60 fps in addition the loading times of the game cube is a separate story is far superior to the versions of xbox and ps2
They each have their pros and cons. For example, the PS2 version runs the worst, but you can’t use the Japanese dub you can do that in the GameCube version or the Xbox version has the fastest loading times and looks about half better than the PS2 version. The GameCube version is the most consistent with graphics and FPS
The Xbox version has the best framerate and sound, but the PS2 version oddly looks the cleanest. It is locked at 30fps though where the Xbox and Gamecube versions go for 60fps, so it doesn't win overall. But surprised it looks the cleanest, AND has the widest aspect ratio, which isn't usually the case.
The Game Cube version is ever so slightly smoother, but graphically the games are completely identical other than color and contrast differences. I do remember hearing some things sound slightly different on PS2 as well.
It wasn't the Sonic Team fault, the PS2 was very hard to program. The Emotion Engine CPU, Vector Units and Graphics Synthetizer GPU were a nightmare for developers. The PS2 was very weak compared to GC/Xbox, and hard to develop games for.
In the gamecube and ps2 versions in story mode if you have a second controloer plugged you can play as the character who follows shadow in the hero missions

@@Skylancer727 I disagree, Sonic Heroes graphics still look decent today with the slick shiny character models and the nice textures of the stages. Shadow The Hedgehog graphics is of lower quality than Sonic Heroes which is odd considering Shadow The Hedgehog came out after Sonic Heroes.
@XenoMassxx yeah I'm sorry but I just don't agree. The models in Shadow are nearly identical to the ones in Heroes even looking them up now. They do look ever so slightly higher poly though and Shadow is way higher poly than the rest of the characters. The textures tend to also be more detailed in Shadow. I think you might be confusing contrast with detail as Heroes uses more colors in its textures but they are ever so slightly lower quality. Plus a lot of footage of Heroes today is the modded PC version while there was no PC version of Shadow. At best you get upscaled 480p which can be fairly convincing. But Heroes also tends to use more sparce area designs where you more look at the sky box or objects outside the playable area rather than the playable area actually being detailed. Shadow being a slower game puts the details closer to you making them more prominent.
