Sonic Heroes is a 2003 3D platform game developed by Sonic Team USA and published by Sega as part of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The player races a team of series characters through levels to amass rings, defeat robots, and collect the seven Chaos Emeralds needed to defeat Doctor Eggman. Within each level, the player switches between the team's three characters, who each have unique abilities, to overcome obstacles. Sonic Heroes abandons the action-adventure and exploration-based gameplay of its predecessors Sonic Adventure (1998) and Sonic Adventure 2 (2001) and instead returns to the linear style of Sega Genesis-era Sonic games.
The game was the first multi-platform Sonic game, produced for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Windows platforms. Sonic Team USA's Yuji Naka and Takashi Iizuka led the game's 20-month development. The team wanted Sonic Heroes to appeal beyond Sonic series fans and so designed a game that did not depend on the continuation of its predecessors. The team revived elements not seen since the Genesis Sonic games, such as special stages and the Chaotix characters. Sega released Sonic Heroes in Japan in December 2003 and worldwide in early 2004.
Reviewers were polarized. They praised the game's focus on fast gameplay and noted its similarities to the series' original 2D entries, a choice that some considered an improvement from the Sonic Adventure games. Reviewers also highlighted its graphic design and detailed environments and textures. Critics, however, derided the game for not addressing the problems of previous series games, such as poor camera, controls and voice acting. Despite mixed reviews, the game was commercially successful, with 3.41 million copies sold by 2007.

The GameCube really was *the* Sonic console back in the 2000’s, the more I think about it:
- Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
- Sonic Mega Collection (all Genesis Sonic titles + Lock-On Tech games)
- Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut (plus all Game Gear Sonic titles as unlockables)
- Sonic Heroes
- Sonic Gems Collection (Sonic CD, Sonic R and Sonic The Fighters + some Game Gear titles)
- Shadow The Hedgehog
- Sonic Riders
- Sonic Advance Trilogy, Sonic Battle and Pinball Party (via the GBA Player)
I have most of those games on my Wii + All the Wii Sonic Games
The Gamecube might just be the console with the most Sonic games before the series rebooted in 2006.
@@acronym.4328 What are you talking about? Sonic 06 wasn't a reboot xD.
@@mijailsilvakiyan2617 In theory if it was more or less a Reboot (see the design change in Eggman) but how the game fared abysmal, they decided to stick with the main line
@@mijailsilvakiyan2617 It was a reboot but then the series just deboots back lol. Kinda like what Devil May Cry did, now that I think about it.
I like the Xbox version because the Y and B button colors match with Tails and Knuckles (Fly and Power)
Wuth Sonic yeah, with the others that gets lost
And so does the X button. It matches with Sonic’s Blue (speed)
???
Oh same I that this to for the fun of it when Playing and the X button matches Sonic when he leader to its perfect lol.
It always bothered me how the sound quality was lower on the PS2 version. Not really surprised about the frame rate or mistakes in the PS2 version, considering it was the earliest console that got release at the time.
Might be the weakest console out of the 3, but the PS2 could do so much better than this.
Luckily an emulator solves the FPS issues
I grew up with the PS2 version of this game, it's not really bad to me, I just noticed that the frame rate is noticiceably lower than Xbox and GameCube, and there is a lot of missing sound effects. I got the Xbox version later, and to me that one is the best version of the game. I've played the GameCube version before too. I think that Sonic games were mostly geared toward the GameCube though. I noticed the GameCube is the only version of this game that has the metal characters cheat in multi-player
It might be a PAL PS2, remember, unlike the Dreamcast, the PAL PS2 was stuck in 50Hz.
And trust me, 50Hz is really jittery when going from the 60 on the PAL Dreamcast or NTSC consoles.
The Gamecube and Xbox at least gave the option for 60Hz too, just less so than the Dreamcast which only didn't support it in around 8 or so PAL games, Xbox and Gamecube were about 40/60, 60Hz/50Hz.
It's weird how the GCN version has a better sound quality despite having a tiny proprietary disc that only has 1.46 GB of storage.
the gamecube is better, due to the loading times and detailed textures, the ps2 is capped, already in the xbox and the pc, acceptable.
Xbox loads slightly faster(Yeah I did a side comparison Cube vs Box)
@@destroyermcw626 yes, just that many prefer gamecube, in the xbox version it was rare to find it on UA-cam, I have no idea why.
The PC version blows the other versions out of the water, because of the much faster load times and consistent fps.
@@joaofernandes9756 Xbox was new at the time so that makes sense
@@moesabally1502 ah yes the pc (made in 2020) will be worse than the console made in 2000-2004
Ps2 is actually the worst since it runs at 30fps
Not even a consistent 30 FPS either.
@@legoclayface And has bad textures and spots for a shadow
@@destroyermcw626 The characters are also slightly lower poly if you look very closely
@@legoclayface Ahh yeah forgot just ewwww
@@destroyermcw626 Wanna know what else is ewww? The draw distance!
I grew up on the Ps2 version, I had no idea it was the worst one
me too
Yea PC is better
It almost always was in any multiplatform release, the PS2 was weaker than the other two consoles. I guess it was stronger than the Dreamcast, but that was barely out in the market
@@DocTime56 Though there were a couple exceptions where the PS2 version looked better than the GameCube versions. Three that I can think of at the top of my head.
-Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
-Finding Nemo
-The Songebob Squarepants Movie
Well, the PS2 could still handle better graphics like GT4, but it was very hard to do
I have the Xbox/GameCube versions. Both are great ways to play this
Same love the gc version but can’t play the og Xbox version yet
Same I both the Xbox and GameCube version I played a lot on GameCube but don’t have a og Xbox yet
I picked up the PS2 version at a retro game store recently. That was the version I played as a kid and holy crap I had no idea it was such a bad port of the game! I'm happy to have the same console version I played it as a kid for nostalgia sake, but I'm definitely gonna play the GC version. I never finished the game so no way I'm doing that on the PS2 lol Not only was the PS2 capped to 30fps, it couldn't sustain that fps either. It lagged a TON when I played it a few days ago.
DUDE GO PLAY THE PC VERSION
@@Megafan381. is PC version stable on newest hardware and OS?
I forgot how tails sounded in this game, and when i first heard him it caught me off guard, and am i the only one who hears knuckles say shit while smashing the rocks, or just me?
Trust me you not the only one
Always heard him saying “CHEF. Rock.”
And the n slur 💀
Damn. Back when Knuckles wasn't such an airhead.
Back when he really meant business!
I mean, even back in Sonic Adventure, when Sonic calls him "knucklehead" after being tricked by Robotnik for the second time (S3K)
YES!! This is My Favorite Version of Knuckles in the Dreamcast Era. Knuckles Sound Like a Cool-Ass Dude in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.

Nintendo GameCube, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft XBOX are definitely my favorite ports. specifically Sonic Heroes modded with SH Essentials mods (or BetterHeroes but this name doesnt exist lul) that makes the game look way better than the other ports
I would stick with the pc version if reloaded wasn't a pain in the ass.
Wow the ps2 port is just awful
I love the ps2 but this port is disappointing
This was the first sonic game to come to the playstation consoles meybe sega does that becouse Playstation 2 is the one that killed my boy the Dreamcast
@suwietch7783pc is better
I don't love the PS2 😂
Xbox nvida
Gamecube. Load times were faster and the gameplay was always smooth. I got it for that when my friend had the Xbox version. Looks like my graphics were a bit smoother too. I didnt have a gaming pc then.
The pc version loading times are like 1 second long. Theyre super duper fast
I have the GameCube version and I swear that it looks better 🤔, almost identical to the pc version (i play it with component cables)
It looks better on component cus the screen is blurrier if you play the game on hdmi and at high resolutions the game will look really sharp
The only thing I hate about Sonic Heroes (on my family apartment PS2) is there was this glitch where dialogue wasn't being spoken, just shown, or it was spoken mildly and 5 minutes after it was supposed to. I hate that glitch.
the ps2 is the worst version
@@ChickenMcKickenyea PC is the best
@@Megafan381.
the glitches on PC make the game nearly unplayable
@@amso7169 but they got fixed with the WS mod so the game runs even smoother than the xbox and gamecube which were significantly more optimized and don't suffer from dialogue glitches or performance bugs.
@@BioCybergoth
they have yet to fix the physics and collision bugs on PC
so glad i had a GameCube growing up
You can mod the PC version to be the best. On console it is either the Gamecube or the Xbox. The PS2 should be avoided. But if you are going to so a game comparison, then tell people you are using emulators.
I think of that Hydra meme when I see this, with the PS2 version being the derpy one
I like the PS2 edition. To me those bug and glitches are always the charm of PS2 games.
I grew up with this game on PS2, and recently got the Xbox version. While I will say the Xbox is better, I do agree with you. The glitchiness of the PS2 gives that feeling I had when I was a kid playing it. Something about the flaws give you that nostalgic feel you had playing it way back then. I still play them both
How tf is that “charm?” 💀
@@spookytanookyAnything to justify their love for Playstation. Had those same glitches been on the GameCube or Xbox instead, they'd add it to the list of reason why the PS2 was better.
Is it me or the volume on PS2 and XBOX (the 1st) is lightly lower than GC and PC version? Or it's just an issue on recording the gameplay?
Its from the actual game itself :b
Not a good representation considering it seems these were not played on original hardware.
I hate that about these comparison videos. I wish they would just say "emulation" or "original hardware". Some of the comparison youtubers do that but not many
I like the gamecube version

How do you like this? 🔥👍
There should've been Sonic Heroes Ultimate to go along with the announcement of Sonic Colors Ultimate.
Yeah I would have loved that, seeing Sonic Heroes is my favourite Sonic game of all time
No, because the original version would be forgotten
This comment should now regret the thought if a ultimate hero’s after colors ultimate release (a mess)
Oh SHIFT! That's a LOT of Sonic Heroes! :)
This game is one of the best Sonic game imo. I heard Team Hooligans from Sonic comics and Sonic the Fighters were also gonna be in Sonic Heroes
Team Hooligans: Bean,Fang,Bark
I Think it is the PC
it get rid of almost all the aliasing in the game
But for the CG cutscenes the XBOX is a clear winner.
Gamecube and Xbox: Has better graphical detail, 60 FPS gameplay, and it looks better in many areas
PC version: you can set any graphics settings you want and also you can play it on high resolution! Even 4k!
Ps2 version however is the worst because its not as good looking as the gamecube and xbox, 30 fps and sometimes it goes below 30, poor sound quality (almost feels like the sound effects are too low and music is too high), and it just terrible to play this version. But it does have japanese audio support where you can set the japanese voice for sonic and his friends!
The Gamecube is my favourite version :) Xbox and PC are also great too and the ps2 version is just terrible probably sonic team didn't had much time to optimize it for the ps2
I doubt it was time, as the PS2 believe it or not was the weakest system of that generation. The only reason developers bothered was the extremely high popularity of the console, which was massively driven by the Media appeal. DVD players were expensive, so releasing a console that could play games and DVDs was a very big reason for it selling as much as it did. GTA trilogy also had these kinds of issues, noticeably Vice City and San Andreas. Vice city had significant issues and glitches on PS2 before later revisions and the Xbox release fixed them, while San Andreas had orange mist due to low draw distance and many many frame drops. Xbox versions ran better and at a higher res, though people prefer the San Andreas mist in the ps2 version due to the atmospheric impact. Quite a neat generation to look into.
My favorite is PS2 version because of nostalgia, but technically speaking the PC is the best
Neighbours from Hell (2003)
Gamecube vs Xbox vs Android vs PCvs Nintendo Switch (remake version).
1:31 1:32 Xbox Skipping Hates Cutscenes
The truth is, they are all very good, but the PC one is my favorite.
The only one i have is the pc version and it drops frames sometimes but its really good otherwise and the loading times are super fast
Cool bro
I forget exist a PC version
I'll download

Do Sonic Riders - PS2 vs GameCube vs Xbox vs PC!
I like what you said.
Ps2 would of been crushed in visual comparisona if the internet was as advanced and widespread back then as it is now.
i didn't knew the PC version even existed :O
~~not even knows there a project that makes the PC port the best port~~
Yes it's the best port
I love this game and the channel
I like PS2 which is your favourite?
GameCube.
PC I respect ur opinion
i like the GameCube version because has best grafics
If you can get reloaded 2 working for heroes on pc, mods totally transform the game
I cant believe we played as kids on my cousins Xbox original thinking we were rich because that by far was the worst and broken one LOL
Gamecube has a Major issue on the PAL Version. If you Pick 60Hz, It Keeps All the changes that 50hz does to make the speed equal to ntsc. Thus making the game run 20% Faster. This Problem Is Not Present On PS2 Or Xbox.
Why am I in Europe? 😡
OMG THX FOR TELLING ME THIS
Im a pal user so I obviously pick pal 60hz but this comment made me realise 50hz is better
after I compared the stages pal 60 was way faster
those extra 10fps always make it feel faster, the problem is that gameplay, animations and framedata aren't synced to 50Hz so running at 60fps breaks the game making it run too fast.
God, retrogaming is such a miserable experience for us Europeans.
the thumbnail made my brain swell for a second
I know there are a load of stupid glitches, but I think PS2 is very underrated
I like the GameCube version!
Nice video
Xbox and PC are my pick. Higher resolution and less frame rate drops than the GameCube version.
I have this 100% on Xbox 360(Backwards Compatibility and is the fastest in loading)
Yeah, I have it on Xbox 360 playing it backwards compatible. It looks the best and runs really fast. The sound is even better. I have the PS2 version as well. It's not bad, but there's a lot of sound effects on the Xbox version that the PS2 is missing, and the framerate difference is like night and day.
@@autolife2785 Finally someone I can relate to for playing it on Xbox 360
@@destroyermcw626 oh yeah definitely! Most people I see who have it play it on GameCube. It's really hard to find any gameplays of it on Xbox. The 360 is probably my favorite system I own
@@autolife2785 Cool and yeah the 360 is a great all in one console and it’s why i kept it for so long
Still wish it was backward compatible through Xbox One and series s/x
i think that gamecube and pc are good
The Xbox and PC versions looks smoother. On the PS2 and Gamecube the jagged edges really stand out.
Did not expect the Xbox to have such superior cutscene quality next to the other consoles.
That should be expected. Xbox had superior hardware to the PS2 and GameCube by a long shot. The GameCube actually had better hardware than the PS2. People forget just how weak that console was from technical perspective.
Why would that suprise you? It was the most powerful system at the time.
@@Breeze06 Because the game itself doesn't show much difference between platforms (except PS2), but the prerendered videos stand out. I'm pretty sure that of all of Xbox's strengths over the other systems, video playback isn't one that really jumps forward. GameCube probably didn't have enough space on its disc, but PS2 used the same DVD format as Xbox.
Also the fact that Sega bothered to make something better for the non-Japanese platform that would probably earn them the least.
I grew up playing it on GameCube and got the ps2 version later. hated playing on ps2. gc version looked and played better
I have the xbox (2001) and playing it for the first time was a surreal experience
But ALL of you wanted a PS2 simply because its Playstation...this is your karma

Graphically the PC version is clearly the most impressive, but for audio quality and a close second for graphics the GameCube is obviously the best. I own a PS2 and GameCube, but never cared for XBOX because it didn't really have any originality. GameCube supreme on this one!
GameCube is my favorite since childhood

Seria tolerable la versión del ps2 si por lo menos no tuviese más glitches a comparación a las otras y tiempos de carga más lentos

I hear the xbox version is the superior version due to having higher textures. For example metal sonic has more silver and blue in his final boss fight looking like metal textures while in gamecube and ps2 hes dark blue.
