Fantastic captures of the amazing "Comizo" Barbel. I wish we has this species in the UK. They can grow to enormous sizes. We have the Common Barbel (Barbus Barbus), which are usually caught on bait fishing and flies, but I've never seen them as a ravenous predator to take soft plastic lures. That crayfish "creature bait" lure seems to be the one they like! Very interesting to watch. Thank you. 👍🏻
Thank you, Kenny! I am glad you enjoyed the video. I am yet to discover the big ones, though this river is tiny, crystal clear and mostly knee deep with some deep holes. But it means you can watch most of the action and it's absolutely marvellous to see these barbels fight.
@spinningbarcelona thanks for the reply. It looks so much fun! Yes, the bigger ones are usually in the bigger rivers like the River Ebro. Stalking fish is fantastic and brings out our inner caveman! 🤣 Good luck in your fishing. 🎣💥💥
@@kennypartridge1853 yeah, there's so much to discover around here. I am a fan of small stream fishing or light spinning in the sea but the Ebro is defo on the list for 2024!
They relatively often can be caught on lures in the summer but winter is tough, we need a lot a different things to go in our way. I was over the moon to bag some. And luckily, the show goes on in the next episode.
headed to barcelona with my ultralight spinning rod and baitcaster rod....thanks for the videos, hopefully I can enjoy some of the spots you have posted!
Really cool video. Love to do this kind if fishing during the winter, these guys are fighters !.. can't forget to mention how beautiful is that small river, just the way I like it haha. Any trouts there?
Oh yes... 😎 Not monsters but a healthy population of trouts which is generally true to all the small rivers of Catalunya. If you like trout fishing, I managed to shoot a couple of videos last year as well, nymph and spinning both. I intend to continue from March.
Awesome winter UL fishing. Beautiful small river. It’s been so cold here in Croatia for so long now, can hardly do any fishing, no fish to be seen. What rod do you use? That’s some quality UL rod that can handle barbel 😊
Well my friend, it's a Shimano Vengeance 180 3-15g. I think it was just under 20EUR, delivery included. Debatable if it's a UL but last year I broke my long serving UL rod. So just wanted to replace it quickly with something that doesn't break the bank, mainly for light topwater spinning from my paddle board. For that, it's perfect and it's good enough for UL lures as well on the river. It's a good compromise. The reel is a Penn Pursuit IV, 2500. It's a tad too big for the rod but it's fast and I have the need for speed haha for quick currents and again for topwater.

I’ve never seen a barbel on a lure! This makes me think about the light setup on smaller rivers. Water seems nice and clear too.
