Its cruel and unusual punishment to force a coder to press a button for every complie and upload.

works, but now playing everytime minigame of pressing during uploading
Nice, while researching on the web, I found this solution. However, I aim to address this issue permanently because pressing the boot button for each ESP32 upload isn't practical. Do you know of any alternative methods?
some suggest connecting a capacitor to the boot switch however i dont want to solder on my dev board
