I really thought they were going to do something totally new with the category but seems like they just applied the Aer formula and material design to a tried-and-true hard shell form. Muji has a similar wheel locking system but Aer claims theirs is the “world’s first integrated brake system,” interested to see that in action. Thanks for the review!
@@B0rnToSlay lol this claim is also false - just look up Innovator INV series suitcases that are widely popular in Japan. They use the same tech and have been around for over a year now.
A carry-on that will not fit any of the sizer bins is not a chance I'm interesting in taking. Even with these fitting they end up checked quite often with flights being busy. But I don't want to add another reason for it being checked.
Thank you for watching! Although it seems like aer did a lot of testing on the sizing with various airlines I agree I do wish it was a little smaller just to provide some extra peace of mind and like you said not give any additional chance for it to be checked
as much as i like the idea of this, prying my Rimowa Essential Cabin from my cold dead hands is going to be pretty difficult. Aer needed to do something insanely compelling and innovating, but sadly it appears there really is nothing exceptional about the bag. the "hidden" airtag holder, wheel lock, and other features are pretty standard on carry-on bags in my experience. interestingly, Aer claims 48l with 57x38x23 dimensions while Rimowa claims 36l with 55x39x23 - almost identical sizing. gonna call BS on Aer's capacity. there is just no way it fits an additional 12l unless Rimowa is severely underestimating their sizing
it seems like the 48L volume is the external volume. 38*23*57=49818cm^3 which is 49.8L Regardless considering you are comparing a $900 suitcase to a $380 one, I'm not surprised you're keeping the Rimowa.
I came here to say pretty much exactly this. Even more egregious than the Rimowa, the Nomatic Carry-On Classic is also close to these dimensions (a total 2.2in smaller overall) and is advertised to only have 30L capacity. How is the Aer have 18L more capcity than the Nomatic? The math ain't mathin' for me.
Always great to see new products. On my last two flights on United, they were very strict with carry-on sizing. Quite a few got stopped at gate check in and had to check their bags. Personally, I would always make sure the dimensions are under the size of a carry-on. I usually use a 26L backpack and a small daypack with a sling inside it to pull out with all my "plane needs". Can go a week pretty easy with this set-up so means, I could travel forever with doing laundry.
380 USD is extremely steep for a suitcase that doesn’t offer much more than a 255 USD Monos… The only difference seems to be the locking wheels and the fabrics and plastics being branded, which isn’t something that matters when the unbranded fabrics and plastics are just as good as branded ones. Which they are in the case of Monos. Aer made a good carry-on, but the value for money isn’t there at all. Which is pretty sad, because their other gear is usually pretty spot-on in terms of value when compared to the competition!
Hi Danny. How do you think this compares to the Carl Friedrik carry-ons? And if you haven't seen those specifically, what do you think about zippers vs snap locks (like the Friedrik has)?
Thank you for watching and good question! I haven’t had a chance to try out the card Frederick one yet, but did try a level8 luggage with the buckles and I thought it was pretty cool overall, felt quicker to get in and out of the suitcase but I was worried about what would happen if one of them got damaged
Thank you for watching! Although it seems like aer did a lot of testing on the sizing with various airlines I do wish it was a little smaller just to provide some extra peace of mind
July light carry on is great. A lot of these over engineered carry on are very heavy so I used to use soft side carry ons but now I use July carry on. Honestly, soft sided carry on are just fine.
Crazy, I bought one on Amazon just as nice with cup holder, wheel locks, cup holder, phone holder, front laptop compartment and anddd just around 3kg all for around 130usd... these companies need to relax for the bare minimum features and charging an arm for it.
Thank you for watching! There’s definitely lots of interesting options coming out in this space, will have to find one like that to test out in the future!
Great review as always Danny! I'm a pretty big fan of Aer products but I don't know about this one. I mean I like the look of it but it is too big for most budget european airlines (I saw they have a smaller version on their Japanese website), it is heavy and the most important of all it is so expensive!
Thank you for watching and for the support! Although it seems like aer did a lot of testing on the sizing with various airlines I do wish it was a little smaller just to provide some extra peace of mind. 2024 US Airline Dimensions (less strict than EU + Other regions): 22 x 14 x 9 inches This carry on per Aer website: 22.7 x 15 x 9.5 I can't believe someone let this product through. Airlines will take any excuse to check your bag, so why build a check in bag that isn't embracing being bigger and entering the cut off by as little as fractions of an inch,
Danny…A thorough review as always! I have been anticipating this case from Aer for a couple of years. I have to say I’m not at all impressed. I recently bought a carry-on roller from Antler for less than half of this price of this case. There is nothing innovative about this case. Wheel brakes? OK, but not for more than twice the price.
Just when I thought Aer was gonna come up with a truly innovative luggage, I'm so disappointed that this product fails miserably. Brands are already slowly moving towards the front-opening style for luggage due to its innovative design, high functionality and great practicality when it comes to actual user experience. Aer, it's 2024 and you still design a middle-opening luggage? And gosh, the weight.. C'mon, Aer..
Why do people continue to use this basic, poorly functioning, aesthetically awful compression system. And why would Aer copy the rest of the brands and do the same thing. It is the worst compression system!!!

You left out the 2nd part of their claim. They're claiming to be the first "using Hinomoto miraclent wheels," not the first ever braking system.
@@B0rnToSlay ah, thanks! Yeah, so it’s a pretty narrow superlative
@@BenZweig Yeah, they're not really impressing anyone with this lol
Yeah they hide a claim behind a bigger claim to make it sound better lol. Huge miss from Aer on this one.

Hmmm if you can completely fill the interior of the bag, then Aer is right. The simple multiplication does give them 48L, and the other 49L.

Seems to be an awkward size for some reason. To be a reliable carryon it needs to be smaller, and if it's a check in it needs to be larger.

Almost 4kg. Carryon limit on budget airline is 7kg, so that leave you with 3kg of content.

All airlines I've used anytime recent has had no weight limits on carry on.

net weight 3.8kg of some airline hand-carry limit of 7kg...its really a trade-off

Expected somthing special because it is Aer but nothing special
Seems like a good quality but way too heavy. Delsey Turenne is 5+lb and the same quality and size. Cheaper too, if you can find it.
