I was definitely an early fan of ISMFOF back in the day. Got to see them live at a local church and actually met both of them lol. One of my favorite songs with Matt is still "Christina, Christina" by The Color of Violence. I wasn't aware of Astral Rejection OG though, so I'll have to check that out.
Cool, wish I could’ve seen the two of them together! I’ve never heard of that song but could immediately point Matt’s vocals. He did a lot of those drunk sounding screams in the early days. Glad you know about astral rejection og now!
I never liked ISMFOF when I was a teenager, but after I got into 100 gecs (another wacky tongue-in-cheek duo, funnily enough) in 2019, suddenly all of that old 2000's "LOL-Random" MySpace stuff CLICKED and now I love them! They're so much fun! Great video!
Thats honestly a really interesting point. 100 gecs is definitely tapping into that era in their music a LOT of the time, but i don't think I've ever really seen the point started by anyone. Cool that they could be your gateway into a genuinely fun style of music
I was very into the ISMFOF type of scene in the early 2000s when i was young because of my older teen sister but was never really a fan of the screaming vocals. but as i got older and similar to you as i got into stuff like 100 gecs and more kinda, i guess “experimental” music i kinda just understood it and am really into more heavy vocal and just different kinda of music. i also really just miss the early 2000s and early y2k internet so i think it just brings me back to that time.
Just seeing this video a little late, ISMFOF still goes crazy to this day! Still in my heavy rotation, yeah they play a lot of YCSSWL I recently bought a shirt they reissued from that era, but amazing video, amazing band
ISMFOF was one of the very first bands I got into in the scene back in like...idk, 2009? I was a fan then, and they still remain my favorite band in this style. I don't listen to metalcore too much anymore, but when I do, it's usually ISMFOF. They just have something special. I think they're very self aware of how ridiculous they are in their music, while still having plenty of profound lyrics mixed in with the wild shit. It's just true art, a projection of the way their minds work. I fucking love everything they've done, even Astral Rejection. Even Caterpillar Sex stuff. I'm just waiting the thousand years for the 2 albums they're working on to come out. I do think Astral Rejection OG is better than the official release, but they're both awesome. Hearing Matt's growth over the years is super interesting and inspiring, and he is uncompromising in his creativity.
