  • It was inevitable. Our Airstream Basecamp 16X broke. Over two years, we've had three things break that needed to be serviced at an Airstream dealer. We had our window pop off, which is now part of a recall, and two different water leaks! Every RV is going to have issues and need some ongoing maintenance and it was just our time.

Shouldn’t the leak be covered by the 3 yr warranty?

Did you use air, to blow the water out of the water system prior to pumping antifreeze into the system?
    1. Flush the Black Tank
    2. Open the Black and Gray water valves
    3. Pull low drains to drain water.
    4. Run the pump dry.
    5. Close the drains hot and cold.
    6. Hook up the blow adaptor to the hose connector for water, maximum 60psi
    7. Open each faucet, one at a time to blow water out, including the toilet , don’t forget outside shower.
    8. Fill the fresh water tank with antifreeze 2 Gallons
    9. Put pump in Winterization mode and suck up antifreeze.
    10. Open all faucets to include the outside shower, pull the pressure relief valve on water tank to allow all water to be released.
    11. Bump pump for a quick second on and open each faucet including toilet till pink antifreeze flows.
    12. Put antifreeze down each sink and shower traps.
    13. Remove Tire Monitoring system.
    14. Remove all items from exterior compartment, clean items, vacuum compartments.
    15. Clean fridge and prop open doors
    16. Make sure mouse deterrents are still good.
    17. Remove the TPMS sensors and place into the Armada

Weve had our basecamp 2 years and had nothing but problems. Leaks (multiple per year), electrical problems, plumbing/piping problems, doors warping, roof halo separating... so many issues. The warranty covered some of it but only after we became very vocal about the poor quality service.
Looking to sell now. We're over it.
    I appreciate your video!

That's a bummer! Hopefully you can find something that fits your needs a bit better.

Honestly, I'm glad channels like this exist to put realism in the face of "Road Life." E.g. It's hard as f*ck. So many little instagram accounts with heavily photoshopped, diffused pictures of these 100k dollar converted school buses and I'm like, "Dude, that is not it. That is not road life. Road life is not glamorous. It is what it is."

This is distressing. I expect the Rolex of trailers to be the Rolex of trailers.

Im sorry, a $60k trailer should not leak after a year. THats just poor engineering. There are several other trailers on the market that will go 20 years without leaks. FOR HALF THE COST. Thanks for helping me decide what trailer to pick.

So far man, from what I've seen, "Airstream" is just a brand at this point, with it's own quality control issues. Think Tesla. A 55k dollar luxury vehicle shouldn't have trim popping off the interior after 3 months, nor brake turbines that have to be replaced after 9 months.

This was a winterization issue, I am confident of that. PEX plumbing is pex plumbing, and if you do not winterize correctly this will happen. You have to blow the lines out with air. User error.

OH, yeah that is not good, I see what you are talking about now. Roof water leak.

I think you should have a weight distributing hitch setup to protect a against sway. If you do have a trailer flat, remember to unhook the bars or you will not be able to jack the trailer up. (I tried once but finally figured out my problem on back road in Mexico!) Get a gorilla bar lever tool to loosen the tire nuts. Research jack points in manual before needed. Check your air daily in the morning on travel days.

Our Airstream is in and the extended warranty person is feeding us all sorts of scenarios where we need/should have the "extended warranty." The trailer and build are covered for three years but anything not Airstream is not covered. Did you get the extended warranty? They also talked to us about kevlar stuff in the tires and a ceramic coating...Ehh

With the leak coming from the shower. Did the flooring get soaked? And the roof leak, did the interior of the wall get damaged?

    • @aaronandamanda
      @aaronandamanda  Рік тому

No damage. Just minor leaks that were caught and managed until they were fixed.
