A Bright Future For Train Travel In The US | Brightline from Miami to Orlando
It is always the trains in Europe that get the attention but how does train travel in the US compare? As Americans who love to travel by train, we headed to Florida to ride the Brightline from Miami to Orlando to find out. We tried the coffee, checked out the bathroom onboard, and reflect on the differences from our experience on the Eurostar from London to Amsterdam.

    Get Milwaukee battery air pump, a bit pricey but worth it. Check your air before every leg of trip. You should have a spare tire?

    Dump the fresh water as you start back, small dribble on road, no worries. See manual for location of valve under frame. No need to pull extra weight. Pee without filling toilet with water. Just pee and open trap. Wash dishes in a bowl then dump gray water outside in woods.

    I am about to have a trailer hitch put on my 2023 Rav4 Hybrid. Toyota wants $1,600 to put on their original Toyota parts hitch. This hitch looks better and has more clearance then a add on hitch ($800) because it is notched into the bumper. Any thoughts?

    I thought the max hitch weight was 350 pounds for that specific Rav4. You should get torsion bars instead of bags. You will actually move the weight forward with those.

    I have a 2024 Rav4 gas awd, but also a 2500hd Duramax 6.6 diesel. The Rav4 is an "suv" but in reality it has a car drive train and is just a tall station wagon. It is intended to carry people and a luggage rack on a hitch. It is not a tow vehicle. The car is too light and has a short wheel base for any trailer. Keep in mind wind, hills, and an off balance load. Just google trailer accidents. Just use a tent or motels. It's a car, a tall station wagon. 2000 lbs is a luggage rack with a push mower on it.

    Good video with lots of information. We love the state parks in Florida. But you need to book them a year in advance if you go in the spring. We like Anastasia, Tomoka, Saint Andrews, Saint Joseph (Hopefully will re-open soon). Another favorite is Dead Horse Point in Utah. Close to Moab, Arches, and Canyonlands. We went in July. A little too hot.

    We bought our Basecamp 16, five years ago. Preparation is vital for camping, understanding your needs, and having backup systems for everything. We took the camper out twice the first 6 months, more a dry run than anything. We wanted to know the possible idiosyncrasies before we set out on our three-month, 12,500-mile western excursion. Because our plan was to boondock we became quite conservative with all of our resources. We boondocked almost entirely but never filled the camper's water tanks, the water weight is prohibitive. We'd buy two 5-gallon water containers before we made it to our campsite, and they would last for about ten days.

    Thank you! This is helpful. Question - can you access the airport concourse/lounge/restaurant while being checked into the “airside” hotel? Or is it restricted by, once you check in you cannot access the airport facilities, or have to go through security checkpoint, etc. reason for my asking, our layover is approximately 24 hours, we want to take full advantage of the lounge access that we have while having access to a airside hotel room. Thank you in advance.

      You can still access everything! The hotel is on the post-security and you can come and go as you please. We were there overnight so a lot of the restaurants and shops were closed but if they were open, we could have stepped out to take advantage of them whenever.

    Thanks for sharing your wonderful recap of 2023 along with your goals for 2024!! It got us thinking about our travels and goals with our Basecamp. I thought it might be fun for people to share so here’s ours. 😊 Miles Towed in 2023? About 5000 Number of Trips taken? 13 States Visited? 10 Favorite Campsites? Lake Superior State Forest Campground in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan Most Underrated Location? Raccoon Creek State Park in Pennsylvania Most Surprising Moment? Stumbling across the spectacular Laurentia Vineyard and Winery in Madison Ohio. Favorite Activity? Playing with our drone on the shores of Lake Superior and Biking along the shores of Lake Erie Worst Moments? Towing for the first time in an ice storm in the Smokey Mountains Our Travel Goals for 2024? Visit five new states We spent a good chunk of 2023 upgrading and personalizing our Basecamp, Charlie. We would love to hear if you have any upgrade goals for Carmen in 2024? For instance in 2023 we added the EZ Bumper to carry our bikes and swapped out our AGM’s for lithium batteries, added an inverter, transfer switch and an easy start for the air conditioner. Our 2024 goal is to swap out our current TPMS system with external sensors to a TPMS system where the sensors are mounted inside the tire chamber. (We’re concerned about damaging the rubber tire valves with the weight of our current sensors.) Thanks again for sharing your adventures!!

    • @aaronandamanda
      @aaronandamanda 7 місяців тому

      Wow! You did a lot! An ice storm sounds like no fun but hopefully you made it through without a scratch! We have some upgrade plans but nothing that big. They are more fun and cosmetic upgrades. The batteries are on the list but maybe not for another year. The AGMs have been doing enough for us at this point but the lithiums would definitely give us some extra capabilities.
