He never went to prison that songs wrote about his good friend who got busted for meth and did 5 years in prison got out then went right back in to do 20 years for some dust in a baggy. Dig the channel brother 🤘🤘🤘
Billy Strings is part of that new generation of country & bluegrass artists that have truly something to say and play, like Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers or Colter Wall. Check out those 3 guys if you haven't.
Only 7 likes for these 3 titans? My god, what has the world come to?
Think you recognize the greatness of this song much more than guy reacting...
@Marcel Silas umm I'm old and dumb, flixzone?
@Marcel Silas what is a flixzone comment bot?
only guy i haven’t listened to off this list is sturgill simpson… looks like i got someone new to add 👀
Dude...this isn't even the tip of the iceberg. No jailhouse tats, just a tat enthusiast. A lot of his songs relate to his growing up in MI and how some of his friends ended up like what's described in this song. He's arguably one of the best young (late 20') flat pickers, singer/songwriters currently out there...in any genre. And he's a metal head....used to be in a metal band, but his heart is in the music he grew up with....bluegrass. And a hot-rodder, which is always a plus. He's real tight with his dad, and has a few youtube vid's of him and his dad in concert. Saw him live in 2018 and totally blew me away, and now i'm hooked. You really need to check them (rest of the band is kick-ass as well) out on youtube.....
.
1989 1200 Sportster..........
I grew up on blue grass, the best explanation I’ve heard was this, “blue grass is nothing but country speed metal”.
It’s saddening how many people don’t see this. Especially in Billy’s music.
Perfect explanation! I always said Country Punk!
I've played the guitar for 20yrs now and I've always enjoyed blues and rock but I recently discovered Billy Strings and I've fell in love with bluegrass music! Watching him play puts a smile on my face every time! He's a very gifted talent!
You just witnessed pure gold.
Everyone talks about how good Billy is and he is but his bandmates are also good. This is one tight band.
Hell yeah Billy Strings!! I think the better version was the one shot in a house.. amazing
Agreed. I also like the version where's it's him and two guys standing in like a park or something. He goes hard in that one.
Yes
He said in an interview one time that he write this song about one of his very close friends who had some trouble with meth. He's been playing guitar/bluegrass since he was 4 years old. dude is gonna be a LEGEND
His father is one of the best bluegrass guitarists in the south, he inherited his old man's ability and then became a metal head and turned it up to 12
I think he's already a legend. I've been watching his YT videos for about a year and I read comments. So many people say they've never been big fans of bluegrass, but now they are. Same here!
The original version of this song. He does solo on a green couch. Is what you should listen to. I think it's almost 10 years old now in 2021
That original video with Shaggy standing there is the best version.
Billy learned to play from his Dad! His music is going way beyond bluegrass. Even touches on Sun Ra. A legendary jazz space player. Now his concerts are selling out. Winning awards. And Turning the music world on its head. Plus he seems very humble about his music. We need more musicians like him!
We already do....Molly Tuttle, Sierra Ferrell, Sarah Jarosz, Daniel Donato, Larkin Poe, Samantha Fish, the rest of the guys in his band, and the list goes on... They're just not known to the masses....
I highly doubt you "suck" , it's just the bluegrass/string players for this kinda music gotta giddy-up on another level.
Very nice song / reaction, cheers
If you like this you should check out Turmoil and Tinfoil by him. I've heard it described as bluegrass Pantera.
Billy is only 30 yo. His dad, Terry Barber, taught him to play. Watch a video "Family Strings" Billy and his dad, Terry, playing together. Terry is an amazing guitarist. Also watch "Billy Strings at Shady Grove". Billy is very knowledgeable about Doc Watson who was one of the early inventers of thumb picking guitar. Billy plays and tells to story of Doc Watson and the history of Bluegrass. Billy is amazing. I'm a huge fan.
He wrote the song for a contest, and somebody played the video of him playing it at home and it just blew up and everybody started asking him to play it.
Billy is a northern Michigan boy. He wrote that song in his teens or very early 20s. His daddy put a guitar in his hands i believe before he could walk. Lol. His father is his influence and his teacher. Always been a stellar young man. I don't believe he's ever gotten a traffic ticket let alone any jail time. Just a little info from his neighbors. He was born with blue grass in his veins
My Dad took a trip to a buddy’s funeral and as requested in advance by the deceased, played live bluegrass music there in memory of him.
I appreciate guys like this. They look intimidating but they are nicer than most
You was talking thru the BEST PARTS!!!
He is the Johny Cash of bluegrass!
Wow that was incredible
This kid has such phenomenal talent it’s truly amazing!!!
You spoke through the most important moment in the song mate
I think I read somewhere that this song is about a friend of his who got into drugs. Billy learned from his dad who is no slouch on the guitar himself. There is a series of videos of shows where he plays onstage with his dad and they're just amazing.
And thanks metal biker. Im a fan. And a part time biker. Only because it snows 6 months of the year lol. A new subscriber
Immortal Technique. Cause of Death
Good reaction video!
Dude this will get you more listeners
Check out more Billy. I too relate to his stuff, and he has a ton of great songs. Taking Water or Turmoil and Tinfoil are other great ones.
Tinfoil and Turmoil is even better
I can relate as well
Can you do some Alice In Chains? Layne and Jerry were amazing together and Layne had so much talent and power in his voice.
It wouldn't be authentic because, I know their complete discography. I will never try to fool or trick you guys into thinking I have heard something for the first time. I will leave that for other channels...
Metal Biker Dude Reacts I figured you’ve listened to them. My thought with it was some people who tune in to you who haven’t might hear them for the first time or never put one of their songs to their band. Like your channel though. New to it but been watching it.
Billy Strings is on his own level
Yeah he didnt learn in the joint but rather a throwback that just has soul for days. He actually had a metal band growing up and still goes to metal shows when he can
im in the middle of a baggie, and i hope i can turn out like you! have a great new years!
instant sub
My favorite song of his!
He’s only 24 never in prison , his step father taught him bluegrass music
Amazing song. GO IRISH!!!!!
This song relates to all at the moment- as an ex tweaker thank GOD! The whole world is spun in one way or another… pray bitches
I’ve been playing guitar for over 30 years, Billy strings is bringing A different attitude when he plays .
Tony , Doc , Clarence , -- Rip
Bluegrass is the most difficult- BY FAR !!
Now dive into Marcus King. Goodbye Carolina and Wildflowers and Wine ...
He does a song with Billy Strings too
Billy played in a metal band in his early teens and can kill it on an electric guitar too. But he’s never been to prison.
No! This was wrote about a friend and there not prison tattoos. Just won his 1st Grammy.
He started playing at a very going age. His father taught him.
Dig your channel. Keep it up.
A good hook comes many times from a true story. And that's what this song is. Not about Billy, but a friend of his.
BIKER/TWEAKER!!!!
My favorite song that he's performed is Beaumont Rag. I encourage you to take a peek, when you have the time. I think you'll enjoy it.
Check out the version of him playing alone in a buddy’s attic ,,, fire 🔥🔥🔥
Billie also does voo doo child not bad.
I send the lyrics to this song to all my friends in jail as a thinking tool.
If you got friends"s" in jail it's probably you that needs to do some thinking......About the company you keep.
@@midas61 I have friends in jail as well as behind the pulpit. I don't judge people, but do try to help any that will accept it.
Metalgrass at its finest!
Smokin' grass! He learned from his father.
Holy shit you look just like Saul Rubinek!
Love the channel subbed
"We are ND"
GO IRISH!
Go Irish! I am wearing the hat right now too! :-D
Nice levels on the video, so many get that wrong.
Do more Billy Strings, a bit gimmicky but I love it, try Taking on Water, Meet Me At The Creek
I don't know whether he's been to prison and I don't know about his tattoos. I do know that he wrote this song about a close friend. It's not about him.
Those are not prison tats and he does not do meth... its a song thats all
You would probably like turmoil and tinfoil song by him.
holy shit, so, this is a new intro and im reacting to it for the first time! haha ok well i dont even want to hear the last intro music. THe LEVELS could be adjusted a bit, but other than that, pleasing as F. Ok, jeez i still havent even watched the video yet lol.
I used to hang out and party with his parents and party with them. He was taught by his father. Damn kid always had a guitar in his hand. Always setting around pickin. He never went to prison....just saw a lot go for usually a lot more that dust in a baggie though.
In lansing?
While he and his band's playing are epic enough, what's transcendental about his music is his songwriting. He shatters all the lyrical tropes of country/bluegrass, and it's all his music. I haven't heard a trite or contrived song from him yet.
This is one of those "aha" moments when you realize that the song has taken you out of the genre and has become something that stands on it's own merits. I actively disliked this style of music for quite a long time as I play guitar and mostly listen to more distorted music, but this guy has got me burning up his tuneage. He's fucking gnarly, epic, and a great "escape from the meth trailer park" story.
His Dad is a good picker too.
Turmoil an tinfoil
It is true. But its actually a song for billies friend who went go jail. Not him. He said so live in a performance of this song
I love his version of cocaine blues and tennessee stud
He wrote this song about a friend of his. He never went to prison for 20 years himself. I'm not sure if you caught exactly what he is talking about, but its about methamphetamine.
grew up in rural washington state at the height of the meth epidemic. not from prison
Not prison tats. He's from Michigan. lol
Billy has never been in the joint. He's been playing since he was six. He granddad, however, built an electric guitar in prison. He had it refurbished so he could play it. Thing is made out of a table leg.
if you enjoyed this even a little bit, check out Arlo Mckinley.
If you wanna do some more country check out Long Haired Country Boy Charlie Daniels
Hello mbd have you seen Billie strings play free bird
Can you do a reaction of florence and the machine? Cosmic love, never let me go, ship to wreck, sweet nothing or even just florence Welch best live performances?
Not prison tats brother. GD fam
50 years they were singing out moonshine, today they sing about meth. Times change... but people don't.
Shut up during the solo
I wanted to learn guitar, looked up a Billy String’s song, and decided to never pick up a guitar again…..
Hey metal biker dude, did you maybe watched the TV show "Sons of Anarchy"? It's about Motorcycle Club, it's hell of a TV show. Check it out if you haven't 😎
I did lol
BUT... I will give you some inside info. That show was NOT well received in the MC community. When someone does something stupid, they get called names like Half-Sack etc
Go Irish!!
I don't think he's done hard time for crank, but if you watch enough interviews with him you'll notice he sure does have the sniffles a lot.
Hahaha I’m not sick but I got the sniffles all the time
Billy didn’t do drugs it was his dads friend who was like his uncle.
Nah, I’m pretty sure both billy and his family all had drug struggles. The song might be about a family friend, but as for drugs in general I’ve definitely read that his whole family dealt with some drugs issues.
@@dudor89 I am sure I just heard him give an interview about the song and the fact that he doesn't do drugs.
@@mikechacker7228 look up does billy strings do drugs. Pretty sure you can find a Rolling Stones article from this year where they interviewed him
@@dudor89 I will check it out. Like I said I only saw one interview and it was from a long time ago.
His dad ... And i think his mom od . He used first when he was like 12?
sorry. i passed out. im a drunk suicidal idiot marine. but im back. ok so far so good. :) im 4 min in
While this rendition is good the version of "Dust in a Baggie" live on the Logging Road at Pickathon.
Recorded July 31, 2015. Don Julin on mandolin is 1000 times better in every aspect and it was live!!
Is funny cause elvis almost did time over dust in a baggy
He never went to prison. He’s Appalachia hillbilly.
Can u react to the blacker the berry by Kendrick👌🏾
You need to react to the one where he is sitting in the couch, it’s way better than this one
Please don't confuse Bluegrass with Country. EVER!
METAL SUX....
It took me a while, but the BEST MUSICIANS and Pickers are COUNTRY, Bluegrass, Funk and JAZZ...
I TRIED to like MORELLO.... NOISE....
John 5 is SMART enuff to know ... if you're gonna be GREAT, ya gotta Learn Country LIX!!!

Hello, react pls to Snoop Dogg feat. Nate Dogg - Crazy
The intro music needs to fade way sooner. Annoying.
You call that a reaction? You broke in during the solos....not good.
