This is easily easily one of the best portrayals all time in any genre of film. I'm not like a huge val kilmer fan or anything, he's a good actor but this performance every time I watch this movie is just phenomenal. To me it's right there with man on the moon(Jim Carrey playing Andy Kaufman). He looks so much like Jim Morrison and he totally plays it. Just another level. Wish I would have grown up in these times or I wish these times just went on forever
I saw this in the theater with my sisters. We were big Doors fans because my dad discovered them when he was serving in Viet Nam. This was a great time to experience life and discover artists
I remember one thing my dad said to me about this movie He said he watched it so much that he forgot which Jim Morrisson was real and which one was Val Kilmer
val kilmer as jim morrison in "the doors" continues to be the ABSOLUTE BEST adaptation in the history of "music stardom" biopics you can't change my mind. EVER
He was only ever nominated for two quite minor awards for his performance, that is so messed up. He delivered one of, if not the greatest performance of 1991.
@@tlatosmd That statement goes for everybody in the band. If Ray, or John, or Robby left the band it wouldn’t have been The Doors anymore. So to say that Jim Morrison WAS The Doors is incorrect.
@@Mazinga The lead singer (frontman) always gets all the attention. Look at the cover of they're 1st album. They all contributed to make the music complete.
If you're about 65 or older then you remember this group and Jim quite well. For four years the Doors were in the news one way or another and on the record charts. Val Kilmer really killed this one and was the best actor for the role. Favorite song: Riders On the Storm.
It was a mistake for Oliver Stone to edit out the scene of Jim and Pam on the ledge near the end of the film in this restoration version - one of the strongest and most emotional scenes in the film. No idea what possessed Oliver Stone to cut that scene. Also, disappointing that there were no deleted scenes added in DVD extras - more was shot and not used in film.
HIs best performance ever really he got into the role more than ever its up there with doc Holiday.. I wish this actor would have had more roles before he got sick... so sad he was as big as brad pitt at one time getting movies left and right.
@Griffen Heat was good but it didnt really focus enough on his character to really find anything likeable he had more screen time at the very end.. was sad. The doors and tombstone will forever be his greatest achievements.

How the fuck did Kilmer not win an oscar for this performance, actually did his own singing too and yet Rami Malek won for his risible performance as Mercury????
Remi played a flamboyant gay iconic man in a time where America is obsessed with homosexuality. He was gonna win no matter what, politics. I agree that the performance wasn’t all that and it along with the movie have pretty much already been forgotten. This coming from as big a Queen fan as you’ll ever find, that was movie was lame.
Stone was restricted by the Morrison estate, fuctards who owned the rights to the Doors catalogue, and also the remaining Doors in developing the true nature of the characters, especially Courson. Be that as it may, I think if Stone was given free reign, you would have seen a much more accurate presentation.
So they cut the Chateau Marmont scene and didn’t add any of the additional footage for the Miami concert or any of the concerts that have heaps of additional footage. I guess that’ll be added on some other anniversary and they’ll call it the Infinite cut.
I just heard of this! mind you was 9 when it came out! BUT HOLY SHIZ! that looks amazing! Gotta say though 90s is my fav era the only thing they did wrong was make movie trailers basically show the entire movie

No, il film è perfetto cosi' proprio perchè esagerato, proprio perchè "spinto", proprio perchè anche romanzato........se fosse attinente solo ai veri fatti sarebbe un documentario, non un film.
Not a great movie and it over mythologized Morrison - who was a quiet book smart poet. It has good cinematic moments and I love the real Doors tunes, so, I take it for that.
I have long adorned Meg Ryan, but she ruined it for me. Same for Kilmer. There has only been one Jim Morrison, so why not use actors we don’t recognize? Personal preference, no doubt, but I can’t be the only person who feels this way-but if I am, okay.
Not a bad watch from an entertainment perspective, but its self admitted fiction by Oliver Stone himself and in no way represents Jim Morrison as a person.
Val Kilmer should have won an Oscar for this.
He really should have. He became Jim Morrison
His Jim Morrison's performance deserved this Oscar more than Freddie Mercury's Rami Malek
pyke I SECOND THIS

It’s so nice to see a music biopic that branches out from just retelling the events that happened. Entertaining as f*** and really philosophical

A great person to play Jim.... Great casting. Kx
Oh no, his not. But he is great
the movie was kinda shit and didnt actually depict morrisons real image he is NOT jim morrison just a good actor
I had to do a double take I thought Jim had come to life, Val Kilmer channeled him beautifully ❤

Well, he *WAS* The Doors. Just look at their records, and record sales, after Jim's death. I mean, those albums recorded without him.
