- It was in 1971 that Jim Morrison reached the summit! With 6 years of intensive career, 6 albums and 200 concerts, nothing seemed to stop the emblematic figure of the Doors.
And yet, the man we called the Dionysus of rock met a tragic end. Illustrated by numerous testimonies and archive images, we return with this report on the last days of this rock icon, consumed by the torments of a star's life.

My car, which had a broken radio for years, suddenly came to life as I was driving into Limon, Colorado. The radio was playing "Riders on tbe Storm". It was quite magical as I love the Doors. I did not realize the significance the song had for the band until now.
Had a really big poster of him in my bedroom. Im 72 and still have such memories of my life then with the Doors.
Me tooooo. ❤😢
From the U.K. always remember arriving in the states in my early 20s on my first outings in California, downtown riverside. Never forget putting L.A woman on a jukebox in a dive bar, such a great feeling hearing it kick in with the base line. 😀🍺🙏 magical 😜
Break on through to the other side, yeah..
Then and now, for me.
I think every college student in that time had the same poster.
Best documentary on Jim Morrison’s death. He had an obvious gastrointestinal bleed (very bad) which probably kicked off from liver failure/cirrhosis. Alcoholism can tear you up & spit you out, same as drugs.
Alcohol, aka ethanol, is a very dangerous depressant “drug” that is sadly “glorified” in society.
Τον φάγανε ρεεεε!!!
Γιατί τον φάγανε;
Those multiple falls certainly contributed.
Well, alcohol aka ethanol is a “drug” and is legal and its drinking usage is practically “gloried” in society; tis sad all the way around.
I Agree with you.
This is the best and most complete documentary of what were the last months and days of Jim Morrison.
I agree with you.
The most intelligent film about Jim Morrison yet. Thank you.
It seems old. Any idea when this was made?
You’re probably right, but I’ve no idea when it was made. I would still like to see a more definitive and rounded documentary about JM, but this comes close, even if it is only about the last days….

Very very well done documentary. To hear the stories from John and Bill Siddons, plus, all the accounts of the various Parisians that were present during Jim's time in Paris really hammer down what might have truly happened with 'ol Jim. He never stood a chance of getting out there alive, unfortunately. Touching to see those photos of his ma and pa at his grave in '91. Sad but such is life. He lived it!
Yeah but what a macabre verse did his parents choose for his grave? „faithful to his demons“, even if it’s true, i wouldn’t want that in the store for any of my loved ones
Which Persians? I don't recall any Persians.
@@8saltman Meant to say Parisians. Corrected.

The first time I saw Jim Morrison in leather pants was at Steve Paul’s ‘The Scene’ in NYC. Quite memorable in a small west side club in midtown.
Is that during the trip to The Factory? Poor Jim!
Hey fellow Americans, he was born in December 1943. He’s only a few months younger than president Joe Biden. He’d be 80 now..

I think it is so sad that for all of Jim Morrison's fame and money and so-called friends, no one really cared about him.
Exactly!
Like Amy Winehouse. None of them had anyone really caring for them around
I did.
You have to care for yourself ultimately
Seems to be the same almost every time with everyone who goes like this.
I'm a huge fan of Morrison, so much so Ive stayed in his old motel room, added to the memories on the wall, hit all his old stomping grounds in L.A and got his autograph tattooed on me. I liked the doors ofcourse but I love Jim more.

Seeing all the comments in different languages from all age groups shows you what an icon Jim Morrison was, immortal
A unique talent, creative genius, rebellious spirit, deep poetic soul and individual mystery. Popularity, money, fame was never his game. RIP JIM,RIDER OF THE STORM.
So he was in the water all night..found dead at 6... "rescued" at 9h20... and the water was warm... that all makes sens...
It was July in Paris with no air conditioning and a body that was still likely warmer than room temperature. So water could easily be 80 degrees F.
I had exactly the same thought. Even in a hot summer in the south of Spain, after 3 hours the water would be cold or less than tepid. I was waiting for a slip up like this. 27:00 (he got in the bath at 3am(ish) and was visited by the emergency team at nine thirty, around 6 hours later.) Hmmm
Said at the 27 min mark....same as his age of death.

As Jim would have wanted, I remember him as much a poet as a great singer. I like all The Doors albums, but the ones where Jim shone the most were Strange Days and Waiting for the Sun. His soulful voice and alluring lyrics cannot be resisted. "When the summer's gone, where will we be?"
Maybe, but he developed a great gift for syncopated staccato rhythms with his vocal delivery on LA Woman and on his live version on Who do you Love in particular
What a fascinating guy in such a fascinating time.
I’m fascinated with Jim/The Doors. 1960s is an era that intrigues yet absolutely terrifies me for some inexplicable reason.

So agree❤😢
Why? He was just a drunk.
I was 12 in 1972 huge doors fan, there were so many great bands and songs seemingly coming out everyday, Jim was horrified at the idea of going to prison, I think that was the main reason for his downfall, the booze and obviously, but that really scared him, he probably imagined what it'd be like for a rockstar in prison back then
I was 10
How they described his one drink; drinking problem. The liquor was poisoned; just as it is today. A form of meat tenderizer is being blended in with the liquor at the distributor/manufacturer level.
I was at his grave in 76 when I made my first trip to Paris at the age of 20. My favorite till today is "Alabama Song". But I love too "Riders On The Storm" and "When The Music's Over"! He was a Genius! Outstanding documentary!❤
Pamela called Jim’s parents when she returned to the United States. Morrison’s father , an Admiral, was notified by the Naval Attaché from the American Embassy.
Morrison’s sister was notified by her husband, who heard it from a friend off the radio reports.
Morrison’s headstone is from his parents, but translates as “Faithful to his own spirit”.
Eventually hir royalties were split between the Courson and Morrison families. Morrison’s brother and sister admit that those royalties have left them financially comfortable.
Wow 😢
Why did the Courson family get royalties ??
@@Irene-qe5hu Morrison’s Will stipulated that if she survived him, she would inherit from him. She survived him, but not by too much and they had no children. If she would’ve died sooner his brother and sister would’ve inherited.
Her family got everything, on paper, initially. But there were challenges by others and questions about his and her competence in the context of drug and alcohol abuse. His Will wasn’t very formal so everything sat in probate.
Her father didn’t like Morrison at all. And while Morrison rarely spoke to his parents, he was known to be close to both his brother and sister. They would occasionally stay with him.
In the end Morrison’s father negotiated a 50/50 split between Courson’s family and his surviving children (Jim’s sister and brother).
@@ericoberlies7537Thanks for this information. I always hated that Pam, who cost him so much and wouldn't go away, inherited his copyrights. For many years after he died, if you wanted your movie or book to reproduce his words, you had to be nice to her image, because after she died her parents got everything. I'm glad to learn that his family benefitted. I didn't know Jim Morrison, but everything I've learned indicates he would have liked that.
Ironically, I was traveling across country for a month with my parents and we probably were in California at the end of June 1971 visiting relatives near L.A.. Didn't know The Doors at the time. However, quite easily, they would become my favorite band. Remarkably, I was only seven years old, but I sensed the warmth and the looseness (and even coolness) of the hippie generation even then; and eventually, we headed to El Paso, Texas and then back to Philly. Much later, obviously, I thought of myself pretty much as a 'writer' even though I had other identities, and I wrote a book of Transcendentalist poetry called Seeking and a collection of short stories called Soul Kitchen. Wonder where I got that title from?????
Great doc. ❤
There is a no question this man exhausted himself to death and his heart couldn’t take it anymore
That's what they want you to think. He had his drug and rock n roll period but was so over that. He wasn't even doing drugs when he was killed and was really into jazz not rock n roll.
@@BarryLomax-by6nw he burned himself out, his body needed total recovery; I don't him personally or what you are trying to say but as a cardiac nurse, the heart literally can't take all the crap he went through with drugs and lack of sleep, maybe not eating well. plus emotional stress with his parents, and vocal demands takes a mental and physical toll.

Excellent documentary. The guys "... in dark clothes " that took him out of the club were hired. The woman that was there is unafraid to speak after all these years.
Jim screwed up, and was a mess at that point anyway. The truth comes out after many years as most people have passed on.
It was announced on the scoreboard at Shea Stadium during the Humble Pie/Grand Funk Railroad concert in NYC in between acts.
A hush came over the crowd.
A sad ending to a brilliant poet/ performer. It happens everyday with Fentanyl to people now. But they're not famous. Some don't even know they're taking it. But their friends and family do afterward.😔
The more details I get I don't like Pamela. She was there in Paris pursuing her love interest shooting smack with him on Jim's dime. That's where her idea to go to Paris came from. Jim probably knew but didn't make too much about it. When he got mad at Pamela he just probably thought she is just one of many and nothing really to get upset about. When the time came she could be replaced. She knew it too. He loved her though. Had he lived their relationship would have been over before mid decade.
He was an with a alcoholic with mental illness most
Likely, coupled with codependency. That isn't love.
Yes, he was most certainly a very creative poet and performer. However, he needed help like all other addicts and people with mental illness. It is tragic that back when he lived there weren't the resources available like we have today.
Agreed. But even with proper help and professionals today? You can keep one from themselves. Free Will can destroy you.
@@angelasanchez4413 yes. Unfortunately he was an emotional defendant of Pam. You don't need drugs for that but for Jim it was one of the reasons for that dependency and Pam took advantage of it where she could. It was Jim's weakness and she exploited it. Look at myself at that age. I didn't have the confidence in myself or in my communication like Jim had. But I wasn't on drugs and emotionally dependent on someone else. Had some weaknesses and faults at that age. All of us do. Part of being human. How they differ is some can be fatal. Unfortunately for Jim his weaknesses at his young age proved to be fatal.

I write this with JDM's collected works in front of me, coincidentally. Having been fascinated with his music & story since 1984, I've seen all the docs and dramatizations on this subject, and read the myriad of books on his life. I say that only to lend weight to my effusive praise for this exceptionally well done film. It's easy to get details wrong, or omit small but important pieces of info. There's very little missing here, and the people interviewed are exactly the people you'd want to have talked to (save for Pamela). The footage was excellent. I believe that alcohol was his ruin, but disloyal Pam was the source of his pain, and ultimately it was his loyalty to her that weakened him.
Was he murdered rather than died?
There is some evidence to that effect... He was, after all, considered an enemy of the State by that time. But we'll likely never know. He made himself vulnerable, at the least.
I think that his is certainly the most dramatic, romantic, tragic and mythic story in all of rock n' roll history. Really enjoyed this, thanks for posting.

As the saying goes, "Life is short and desires are endless," I believe that maybe Jim Morrison is still aspiring for music and fulfilling his dreams. Through Jim's stage, I became interested in the invisible world. He was not just an attractive artist, but a wizard who broke the boundaries between life and death and connected the new world. His songs, which project a lot of religious significance and magic, are very ironic. Sometimes you might say that his stage is aggressive and violent, but inside Jim Morrison's songs are peaceful and comforting.
About twenty years ago, I spent a few days listening only to Dylan and the Doors, and I realized how much more love there is in Jim's lyrics than in Dylan's. This is interesting. I suspect Dylan would have jettisoned the destructive Pam Courson pretty early on. Jim, on the other hand, though as unfaithful to Pam as she was to him, was a romantic.
People believe cardiac arrest is the cause of Jim Morrison's death, but more accurately, he is believed to have died of heart valve disease after contracting the drug-induced virus in a state of no antibody resistance in the body, or having a pathogenic immune system.
