  • @vhfgamer
    @vhfgamer 8 місяців тому

    You made a small error when you said that front dump pouch is meant for masks. Actually... if you look into the pouch, you will see two snaps on the top inside of the pouch. It's meant for the 6 magazine bandolier to snap into place. And in front of that bandolier is supposed to fit one claymore mine.
    Although I'm sure a mask would fit, and I'm sure someone somewhere used it for that, the correct intended use is ^^^ as I stated above. Also you forgot to mention that the butt pouch is supposed to attach to the bottom.

    There are several versions of this; judging by the "frame" sheet, this is the second one. There were external differences as well. I was in one of the units that evaluated these in the late 90s-early 2000s. The major disadvantage I recall is that for wearing with LBE, the shoulder straps rode far too high no matter what. Load the pack too bottom heavy and it would generate momentum-- you'd have your Kevlar knocked forward if the pack bounced unexpectedly. Lovely times!

The rest are just collecting dust...So, I can say, yeah maybe too many are possible, if you find the one you really like. To be frank, I actually prefer an Alice buttpack w/lc-1 suspenders over a backpack. When you're pushing it or hiking in heavy humid summer months, getting that heat off of your back is a great feeling.

    I've got one of the first actual Molle I patrol packs. Grab handle is single layer webbing, top cinch straps aren't complete (only half buckle to connect to main ruck), no hydration hose flap, no jump straps, and the card holder is in the center of the back. I've seen less of them than I have of the Molle II that you show. I still haven't hiked mine yet but if you are judicious with gear and organizing you'll be surprised by how much gear you can fit in them.
    Gonna get out soon and hump this one for he summer and then rig up my Gregory UM21 patrol pack (The one everyone hates because its small and heavy for a patrol pack) for the winter. I think I can make that pack work and its suspension system seems super comfortable to me even if the pack itself is a bit heavy.

    Great review, Luke! I was not aware that two versions of the Molle II assault pack existed when I bought the ACU digital cam on ebay. For less than thirty bucks I found a pack in excellent shape plus several attachment pouches. I'm not crazy about ACU but the pack is bomb-proof and great for overnighters. The waist or butt pack I attached to the primary pack is perfect for my shelter system, a 10X7 Aqua Quest tarp and all of the necessary accessories allowing internal pack space for other gear. It didn't come with a back stiffener so I found a large lightweight cutting board at Dollar Tree that fits perfectly. I love practicing on cooking skills so this works well for me. The cavernous(!) front pocket has two velcro pockets, one internally and one externally. The pack carries a 22lbs loadout very comfortably. BTW you got me turned onto Tasters Nasty but it's the Colombian flavor. The aroma when opening the packet is amazing. Go figure.

    Also inside the smaller pocket is a female button snaps. This is so that the USGI 6 MAG MOLLE II Bandoleer Ammo Pouch buttons in on it. The woodland Camo Sustainment pouch complements this pack and adds more room to really make it a 3 day pack. I have added a couple of webbing straps to the pack to attach it to a CFP-90, instead of using the cfp patrol pack it came with.

    I've had one of these packs for years, and it's hard to beat. My dog (RIP Roscoe) decided to chew on the handle one day and it's barely hanging on lol! Note: the dog didn't die because of this: he was put down some years later due to cancer, arthritis, etc. He was almost 14 years old and I miss the pup every day. I digress.
    I found it while working, and kept it because......you know, military surplus quality......I've had it long enough to wear the NSN tag off on the inside of the pack. It did say "3 Day Patrol Pack", I remember that much. Anyway, it is as you described. Great pack and takes punishment. BTW the dog happened to chew on the teeth of the zipper as well, so the zipper stops at a certain spot, so that's where both zips go when closed. It's my constant companion at work and it's great. It needs a bath. But it's a beast and takes some serious abuse, as it was designed.
    Well done on the review. Comprehensive and thorough. Keep up the good work, sir.

    There are actually four packs in the family. There is the original ( non-jumpable) patrol pack, the jumpable patrol pack in this video, the original assault pack, which is the same size as the patrol pack, but with even more improvements, and the larger assault pack. I have the three not in this video. Additionally I have seen the jumpable patrol pack in three-color desert, by the time multicam and ucp camo were issued, everything was the three-dat assault pack.

    I bought this pack on Amazon to use for my CFP-90 pack. I was bummed out that the foam padding in the back was crushed because of how it was stuffed into an envelope instead of a box when they shipped it, didn't know they also came with that white plastic sheet to give the back rigidity. It did come in brand new condition though. Haven't tried it since the problems with the foam and it doesn't look comfortable even for a daypack, if mine had the foam and plastic stiffener I would definitely try it.(good luck finding just those 2 things, right?..)

    Otherwise known as the Pogey Bait pack. Kept all my food in this for years in the field. PS it did come with a waist belt out of the box but we always took them off because they were the same weight and size as the sternum strap and it was too many loose ends hanging around.

      CFP is a pre-molle era, so of course it is not

      @@spartannn3002 pals is the same as molle. CFP has 2" strap attachments for m1956 ("alice") metal clips

    Nice pack Luke, however, I didn't know there were two versions of this pack as you said. As for pricing seems reasonable.

    There's something wrong with your channel. I get the buffering wheel on any video I watch. No problems on any other channels. Just yours. Very odd.
